Relatively lightweight. | | Weaknesses: | Very difficult hubs to rebuild due to non-standard design. The cassette body takes a 12mm hex wrench from the backside, unlike Shimano which uses a standard 10mm hex from the front. Furthermore, whoever assembled the wheel forgot to use anti-sieze and the steel bolt which attaches the cassette body has fused with the aluminum making it impossible to remove. Also, the Ritchey hubs have different size ball bearings on each side of the hub. The rubber seal on the drive side can be a real pain to install into the correct orientation. | | Similar Products Used: | Shimano, Suntour | | Bottom Line: | These hubs seem to be very well sealed and smooth. Therefore, I wouldn't attempt to rebuild them unless they are really rough. I'm dissappointed by the non-standard design but the hubs do seem to be built well. Great acceleration on uphills, and acceleration from stand still. | | Weaknesses: | OCR rear hub- you have to offset your V-brakes to fit, but fine after that. 1 year warranty if that matters to you. | | Similar Products Used: | Mavic crossroc, Mavic 238, some sort of Bontrager. | | Bike Setup: | Moab two Aluminum 1999 frame, xt components except for the Avid 2.0 brake levers and v's that are extremely durable. OEM bars, stem and headset. Duke SL 2002, ritchey alpha and omega wcs semi slicks. | | Bottom Line: | Great rim- I am 180 lbs, and have never experienced anything but positive results with this wheelset. I figured they must need it (eyeballing it and putting them in a stand can be two very different things) and just to get them ready for this season. The guy laughed at me. The straightest wheels he ever had brought in to him. I'm impressed with these wheels. They may not be the lightest, but that is not what I was looking for. Overall, good wheels, meet all of my expectations.
Who should buy: 180 lbs riders and up, who are more concerned with durability rather than weight. Anyone looking for decent wheels that I feel are worth the $250 I paid for them. | | Value Rating:Overall Rating: |
