Bottom Line:
A very strong and stiff stem not only material wise but also design wise. The handle bar is fitted into the main body of the stem, and the cap of the stem has a tounge that interlock with the main body. This design will distribute the force not just to the bolts but also to the main body of the stem. I have not seen other stem with this design and I am sure this is why the diabolous stem has such a strong reputation.

Yeah, this stem is the dog's bollocks. Its sick looking, very strong, will hold the bar securely (forever). Anything going wrong with this stem seems very unlikely. Serious xc racers obviously will look elsewhere but those of us who appreciate rigidity, flash and something that will last for life should buy this stem Can attract a lot of attention as it adds much to your bikes appearance, so watch our for the dodgy folk who 'just wanna take your bike for a spin'. Londoner's - buy a cannister of mace to go along with it. 5 flaming ringpieces for this one

Pretty basic review...this stem is super tough and it looks great. If you get the 70mm length it looks kinda odd but the 30mm and 50mm stems are pure sex. This stems seems strong enough to handle anything but a lot of stems are these days so what sets this one apart is the style. There are lighter stems but not ones that are stronger...it has a good strength to weight ratio.
5 flames chilli's for a product that works flawlessly and looks good doing it.

after two years on my rockhopper and one year on my kona this stem's faceplate was discolored and faded looking, not the stem, just faceplate which seems to be made from a lower grade aluminum. after three years the metal on the sides of the faceplate had cracked on all four sides. this may have been caused by overtightening, but when you look at the thickness of the aluminum around the bolts that hold the faceplate on you can see there is almost NO METAL on the sides of the bolt heads. anyway, raceface replaced without even wanting the old one.way to go,raceface! i have since switched to a dangerboy tank which has MORE METAL around the bolts, but i got top dallar resale for the diabolous with the replacement faceplate, and true service from raceface, so five flaming stinkbombs overall.

Wicked stem, definetly worth the price. For a FR stem this thing rocks, if your a DH racer looking for a light strong stem this isnt for you (Go thompson). This is another example of a raceface part you can throw on your bike, and not have to worry about if its going to hold up on a drop/gap. Lets you focus on doing the stunt, which is what its all about. Go for it

No this is a S-T-R-O-N-G A$$ Stem! No slipping, no bending, no cracking or creaking! Just Strong, Stiff, and built to last! This sucka will hold on to your bars and your steerer tube like an 800 lbs Gorilla! I have never had it slip even through some NASTY Drops! If looks could kill you'd be DEAD for installing this stem!
Weaknesses:
Heavy for you weight weenies out there but most weight weenies don't Freeride or downhill! So Nothin, Nada, Zip, Zero! BULLIT PROOF!

Bottom Line:
First off I am a Freerider Not just a Downhiller!
As for this stem it is close to bullit proof. I would recommend this stem to anyone who rides through nasty trails and loves to Freeride and do massive drops! It has yet to slip or creak at all! If looks could kill then this stem has it all! After you install it take time to just look at it pearched up there! The graphics are awesome just wish they were integrated into the stem. You know some nice laser eching, I guess that might ruin the strength of it though! If your a weight weenie then go some place else but if your freeriding and not building your bike up tough, then it will more than likely it's gonna break really soon. Heavy Duty means Heavy weight no way around it, if your looking for a really strong stem for Freeriding or Downhilling get this one and it will be your last one you buy, EVER!!!! PEACE!!!!!

Bottom Line:
Ok. Who didn't buy this for its looks?
There are so many cheap billet alloy Azonic shorty clones out there, why didn't you save yourself 40 bucks? Who ever heard of anybody breaking a DH stem instead of their bars or headtube? The only time i have seen trouble with this sort of thing is due to over torquing bolts, without grease.
I got one.
The Diabolus stem is lighter than it looks. Strong and stiff as it looks. If you want a confidence inspiring stem that you can forget about, this is not the stem for you. This stem is in your face (ouch), but i have absolutely no doubt that it will hold my bars to my steerer tube no matter what i throw it at.
Has an innovative interlocking faceplate which looks to even the tension on your bars and probably has a payoff in strength.
Has etched flames which have a psychological effect that is worth the purchase price alone, and will probably have a payoff with the opposite sex...
