$100.00 | | Strengths: | The arms seem relatively strong | | Weaknesses: | The alloy used to make these cranks is very very soft. The crank puller threads crossthreaded and stripped almost immediately. Just today the non-drive side pedal threads stripped when my pedal hit a rock. Not cool, Race Face. I've had much more dependable performance out of an ancient pair of lightweight Shimano XT cranks. | | Bottom Line: | We'll see how the warranty goes. I'm not hopeful. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Fort Wayne, IN Date Reviewed: June 7, 2005 | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Purchased At: | 115 | | Strengths: | look nice, look strong, feel good while they work... | | Weaknesses: | Yeah, these were great until the pedal thread stripped out while on a road ride. Oddly enough, I ended up using these cranks almost exclusively on the road, so they saw none of the real abuse they were supposedly designed for. Raceface was completely unsympathetic, saying that they only had a 1-yr warranty. That's what I get for "upgrading" from my old shimano. I wish I'd kept the old shimanos, because I'd put them back on. Why would I want to pay 68$ for a new crankarm when it's a piece-of-crap design, and raceface doesn't want to do anything about it? I emailed the addr on their website about this a couple days ago, and haven't heard anything back at all! I thought raceface was the stuff, but I used to beat the heck out a set of old LXs and they never gave out on me! Raceface has lost a customer in me... Don't buy these, maybe if you're lucky they've fixed the problems with the crappy threads in the new line... too bad I'll never find out!!! | | Similar Products Used: | shimano lx, from before they were hollow | | Bike Setup: | k2 flying monkey dual sus, noleen 5 in up front, magura rim brakes, sum mammoth on the rear, rhino lite up front | | Bottom Line: | Don't buy these cranks unless you enjoy riding with one foot. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from boone nc usa Date Reviewed: February 22, 2005 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Strengths: | stiff, strong, burly looking | | Weaknesses: | comes loose, pedal doesn't thread far enough through the pedal interface, i don't need a crank pull to remove drive side because of bb interface wear | | Similar Products Used: | first DH crankset | | Bike Setup: | hard tail: DH parts | | Bottom Line: | fine crank for the price i guess; feel like rocks; i'm disappointed that after 14 months of use the drive side bb interface has worn so i don't need a crank pull to remove; this is extra unnerving because i've had a problem with the crank bolts coming loose: one time the bolt came out during a ride. If you want a pair of cranks that can take abuse these do the job, however, if your abuse includes high miles along with big drops, these things don't seem to be up to the task. I'm switching to truvativ because i've heard they can handle long xc as well as drops. I'll give these things three hot turds because they're so stiff, and they have held up to 14 months of heavy use, but they probable only deserve 2 considering the premature bb interface wear. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Vancouver, WA, USA Date Reviewed: November 1, 2004 | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Purchased At: | Original Equipment | | Strengths: | Worked great for 2 years. No flex, no creaks. | | Weaknesses: | Pedal threads stripped out of non-drive side, pedal fell off while climbing stairs. | | Similar Products Used: | Bontrager | | Bike Setup: | Kona Stinky D | | Bottom Line: | Sounds like it's not at all uncommon for the pedal threads to strip out. I have to give them credit, though -- worked great for 2 years and you should see what this poor bike has been through. I figure any product that kept me happy for 2 years deserves at least three chilis.
I think what someone said about short threaded pedals is very true -- I'm using Ringle ZuZu pedals, and they have a pretty short thread that doesn't reach all the way through this crank. To make things worse, because the crank is all aluminum, you're supposed to use a washer, which reduces the thread a little more...
I'm going to replace it with the Race Face Evolve DH with the CroMo pedal inserts. I'm hoping that will keep it from stripping again. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

But just for keeping things fair I have ridden a set for an entire season but they 2002's. | | Weaknesses: | The drive side threads stripped while riding on an intermediate level single track. | | Similar Products Used: | shimano lx and deore both ,out lasted these but again in all fairness I will refer to the 2002's race face prodigy that lasted a whole season and are still going on the bike that is now my friends but 50 50 odds arent good enough odds for cranks | | Bike Setup: | Giant ac , swinger four way, z159 , 6.3" by 6", hayes eight inch bla bla bla bla bla | | Bottom Line: | It is too bad that after spending two grand plus that something so simple as the drive side threads have to strip and put all riding to a halt. Not to mention the three and half mile walk down primo single track I had to endure , at least the scenery was beutiful. But hey The fact of the matter is that if I wanted to walk something it would be my dog not my bike lets pick it up rf. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$115.00 | | Purchased At: | pricepoint.com | | Strengths: | Good Flashy Looks.... if that's all you care about, Customer service good | | Weaknesses: | I would say everything, but that's too broad. Basically, it's the weak material, the weak pedal insert threads, and the weak splines. | | Similar Products Used: | TruVativ all the way!!!!! XC cranks lasted me 2 years, + survived the schleyer. | | Bike Setup: | Trail pimps, (between frames right now, but I'm most likely getting a bullit) Azonic Shorty, XT/LX.... Do you really even care??? | | Bottom Line: | For the short version, Read the last two lines, but here's the story. Well at first they were really nice. Stiff strong, good looking, but that all changed mysteriously on the 4th month which may have been the worst ride of my life (Chain Snapped, Crank Fell off/stripped, Flat tire, stressmark in frame discovered etc.). All this aside, it was the crank that couldn't be fixed, or at least hold for the end of the day. Anyway, I got all of the mess with the left crank arm dealt with, and it held for a month without any drops or jumps(no drops or jumps over 10' for frame purposes), then When I was riding around the neighborhood cruising for chicks, I felt a wobble. I thought it was my right crank arm falling out this time, it wasn't. The pedal had stripped the threads. I had when i finally got the pedal off, I found the pedal was fine, but the crank wasn't. The bottom line is that race face is garbage. I'm buying hollzfellers, and sticking with truVative!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Modesto, CA Date Reviewed: March 24, 2004 | | Duration Product Used: | 1 Year | | Bike Setup: | Santa Cruz Bullit used as a trail bike | | Bottom Line: | THIS IS FOR THE PRODIGY DH CRANKS WITH TRIPLE CHAIN RINGS AND THE EVOLVE FR BOTTOM BRACKET BOUGHT AS A COMBO: Bought the set-up from pricepoint.com for $115 and haven't been happy with them since. My bike never did shift correctly after installing them per Race Face's instructions...think I'm retarded and installed them wrong, fine...my local bike shop couldn't get them to function properly either. The only way to get them to shift correctly was to leave the BB spacer off (Race Face says to leave it on with my frame's BB shell size). THEN, my crank bolts wouldn't stay tight. still think I'm retarded, fine...the local bike shop couldn't get them to stay put either. My local bike shop handled the warranty call to Race Face and their warranty guy said it was a tolerance issue with the BB so he sent me new cranks only...go figure??? LASTLY, these things creak like crazy. Maybe I'm retarded? Nope...the BB has been removed, cleaned, lubed with grease (Race Face recommedation) or Shimano Lock-Not (bike shop recommendation)...same with the crank arms...I've also removed, cleaned, and lubed the chain ring bolts (all of these areas multiple times). Still think I'm to blame? Every tightening job was performed with a torque wrench and I carefully applied Race Face torque specs. I'm not impressed with the chain rings either...the mechanic at the bike shop said they don't have ramping and that effects efficient shifting also. These are only on because I'm still saving up for a Shimano replacement. I'll never run Race Face cranks or BB again even though I know these are their cheap version. I've just been soured that's all. I'm going back to Shimano. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$115.00 | | Strengths: | Comes with a great bashguard - really functional. Has very stiff arms and is ISIS compatible. | | Weaknesses: | Forging. The threads for the pedals are weak. Very disappointing! My pedal chewed out the threads of the right crank arm. For a product of this caliber, breakages such as that arent supposed to occur. Raceface, get your act together. | | Similar Products Used: | Bontrager Cranks | | Bike Setup: | Dirtjumper 3 & GT hardtail. Burly hardtail. | | Bottom Line: | The cranks were great while they lasted. I loved the bashguard, and being able to pull-off nasty stunts. I just despise how they prematurely broke-down. I've heard that batches of these cranks are defective, improperly forged by an off-shore (non-canadian) subcontractor.
