Description:This crank is built solely for the 'new school' rider who doesn't think twice about launching off a 10-foot drop. When combined with an ISIS Drive BB, the North Shore crank set is the stiffest, most fatigue resistant, and impact proof crank you can put on your bike. Used 'as is' by Myles Rockwell of Team Giant, the 2000 Downhill World Champion. If Myles can't bend 'em, neither can you. Simple as that.

I'm running the really old-school version with a solid square taper spindle. I've been using it for 6 years now !!! And for three of those years with the same UN72 bottom bracket. I weigh 250+, ride hard, and these things just don't complain at all. I am simply not sold on the x-type outboard system. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

too stiff on a HT they aren't made anymore can pick them up dirt cheap in the shops if you can find them
using 2 sets first set on Identiti Dr Jekyll, '98 Z1 duals, hope hubs on 521s, 8 speed XT gearing, Hayes Mags, DMR V12s, Raceface Signiture FR BB
Second bike is running northshores on an Orange 222 with marzochhi 888r, Hayes Mags, V12s, 8 speed XT, bulbs on 729s, raceface signiture DH BB
Bottom Line:
I own 4 bikes and try to ensure i use the best components i can get on them. Out of the 4 bikes 3 use raceface cranks and that is for one very good reason. i used to break cranks at an astounding rate and many manufacturers were lousy with their warranties. not so with Raceface if i ever manage to break these i know raceface will supply me with a new set. If dropping off stuff, jumping or DHing is your thing Northshores are the cranks you need. these are HEAVY cranks in comparison to cranks of a similar design but when compared to 3piece these are of equal strength and a lot lighter i deffinently noticed the bike feel more "free" and manovourable when i put these back in after trying my chieftians in my jump bike. If you're looking for something a little lighter for XC or Trials i would deffinently reccomend the Turbines or after but no where near the raceface products the middleburns

Bottom Line:
I love these cranks! All you trials/urban riders out there know that tryin new things will beat up your equipment, but these things have kept me confident and havn't made me worry for a second that they won't hold up to anything. Some may find it to be rather expensive when bought separately, but if you're worried, wait for an end of season sale, when u can pick up a bunch of things, shops are bound to give some sort of deal! All in all, these are awesome cranks! Why not truvativ? I've had some really bad experiences with breakage and bendage, but they ARE almost half the price -- so it's a question of quality for the money or zero quality for no money! lol PARTEE HARD!!

Hey they say these are for guys who don't think twice about a 10 foot drop and they aren't kidding. Built to last, heavy as hell, stiff (no flex in any direction). My bike instantly felt much more solid at any speed, like a real dhsled. *Note I also opted for an outer bashguard with a 32/22 setup. I should mention that in the month and a half I've had this RF setup, I have not had the chain pop off the front, with no chainguide or MRP!!! The guard is true RF quality, a full 5mm thick, more than last years I hear, great if you do any riding that includes logs and exposed rocks. Yes, they are spendy, not for the faint of heart, but ever penny is worth the best crankset being manufactured today. You'll be making a wise decision!

A rather sturdy set of cranks. Sturdiest I've ridden. Had a set of LX hollowtech cranks on while waiting for these trophies. Night & day difference, the NS cranks made my bike feel 10X more solid. I don't think the hulk or Buddy Lee could bust 'em! I like the RF 128mm ISIS BB too. Lets me run 3 rings or 2 rings & the MRP LRP chain device on my Prowler. The 55mm chainline isn't the best, but it works OK.
These cranks are a little pricey but you'll only hafta buy 'em once! I hafta give 'em a 4 in the value dept. for the hit to my wallet, but a 5 overall 'cause they're about the burliest thing to be had.

I got these to replace my lx cranks, as I stripped the taper out so the arm moved on the bb when tightened and came loose after about 2 pedals. I decided to go isis because it is stiffer, doesn't creak, and is stronger. I got the 165s for added ground clearance and stiffness. Bottom line? NO other crank I have ridded is as stiff as the northshores. They also look really good (mine are black) and for once, I have found a crank that doesn't creak. My local bike shop guy got them factory direct (no one stocks 165 mm cranks with a 94mm bolt pattern) and he got a pair of 175s isis and they've been treating him really well too. If you have the money and don't mind a few extra grams, these cranks won't do you wrong. If you're not a weight watcher, find a way to get the money for these, and buy them, you won't be dissapointed.

They are stiffer than LX and XT cranks, but considering I lost a tooth apparently while riding around a parking lot ??, I'd say they are far from bomb-proof.
