Over the years I've found light fluids provide better shift then the heavier ones and doesn't leave a film like the wax based lubes. As others have mentioned, works great on derailleur pivots, cables or anywhere else you need a bit of fluid. Oh and a bottle lasts a LONG time, even with daily use. One bottle easily gets me through a season and I ride (at least commute) year round. Even works in Canadian winters. | | Weaknesses: | I'd say it needs to be applied more than thicker lubes, but since it doesn't collect as much dirt, provides better shifting and is super fast to apply (i.e. you don't need to do one drop per link to avoid over application) it's not really a compromise for me. The time I spend applying it more often I more than save from a cleaner chain and faster applications.

I recently did a 500+km tour mostly on dry dusty dirt roads and was pleasantly surprised to find almost no chain wear despite very obvious grittiness in the drive train. I was afraid that once I got home I would find the chain toast but it was just fine.
Same can't be said about wet rides. Did a 420km Audax ride, most of it through intermittent rain an wet roads. Before the ride, I checked the chain, no wear. After the ride, checked again, shock! Chain totally toast, completely way past worn. ONE RIDE! I didn't have the chance to continually re-lube during this ride. (Who would?)
So if you ride in the wet, immediately clean the chain and relube.
It's pretty expensive stuff but lasts quite long.

Pro link is the golden standard by which all other chain lubes are judged.
That said I have yet to find a perfect chain lube so this lube is not about to get five chilis.
Purple extreme is in my opinion a better wet weather chain lube than prolink. however I prefer Prolink in the dry. that said I am going to try a sample of Squirt chain lube I was given.
Prolink is certainly a good choice. that said there may be one or two that are better.

I am done searching for the right lube. I am no longer going to waste my time or money on bad products that only last for 10 minutes. Now I enjoy the ride instead of worrying if my chain is lubed for the ride or not. I only need to apply it about 3 rides or so.
People say that it smells, but I really don't know what they're talking about. It might have a little smell at first application, but after it soaks into the chain it's all good.
And for the price you really can't find a better product. Even the more expensive lubes don't even come close. So don't waste your money on other imitators and get the real thing.

After a couple rides the chain was cleaner than ever and has stayed that way. Of course turpentine might do that too, but the Pro-gold gives good shift. Crisp clean shifts, and the grime doesn't pack up on either the chain or the cassette in even the crappiest conditions.

What I wanted to say is that this product is absolutely fantastic as a fork strut and shock lube. I thought my forks were performing fine until I wiped a little ProGold ProLink on them, then it was like "WOW.... so this is how they're supposed to work". All of a sudden I was getting sensitive small bump compliance and a beautifully smooth ramp-up the further I got into its travel. In my opinion, don't bother with fork lubes. After really wet muddy rides there is no gunk on the chain and the mud just washes off with water.
The chain needs to be really clean chain before applying it. I just using Muc-Off and then rinse it throughly with water. Once you've done this you don't have to do it again.
One of the comments below said it was poor in summer as dirt/dust stuck to it, this is true if you appply it before a ride but as the instructions say you should lube the night before and let it dry. Then dust doesn't collect on the chain.
Normally I apply the bottle to the cassette for 3turns of the cranks, then backpedal quickly 10-20 times to get it to work it's way in to the chain, then hold a rag at the bottom and spin slowly to take up any excess, then leave to dry.
I also use the pen type luber sometimes to apply it link by link, this also works well.
I apply it after every ride if a really wet/muddy ride or after washing, and around every 3-4 rides if mostly dry.

Follow directions for the application. Always best on freshly cleaned chains.
I keep an eye on the chain and when it starts to show some soft build-up, I soak the chain with ProLink and then immediately wipe it down with lint free cloth. Maybe do that twice if it is real dirty.
I never have a grimey, hard-to-clean chain and I am no where close to a "clean chain" fanatic.
My chains never "grind" like they did with other lubes that seems to attract more dirt/sand than they can cope with.
ProGold's ProLink makes my chains, cassettes and chainrings last longer.
It's sandy and dusty in FL and I am finished with trying other lubes, only to be sadly disappointed to find myself spending way too much time cleaning and lubing the old chains....instead of riding them!

At the NBL Grand Nationals in September '02, we were introduced to this product thru a free bike cleaning and lube. Since then, it is the ONLY lubrication that we use. Pro-Link Chain Lube has made our BMX Racing a much more pleasant experience. For those in the Northeast, it has been several years of wet and muddy racing. I can't count the number of races that have been affected by Mother Nature. This product has been a life saver! The chain lube sheds water and dirt like no other. When the rest of the bike is covered in mud, the chain and drive gears are not. I've been involved with this sport since 1987, and have NEVER seen anything like it. I only wish I had discovered it sooner! We have 60 riders on our team, and they ALL love it. I tell everyone about Pro-Link Chain Lube and when someone outside our team asks if I have any lube they can use, boy, do they get an earful! I highly recommend this product to anyone that rides bikes. It is also the Official lube of the National Bicycle League. This stuff is great, the best is to first remove and clean the chain with something like white lightning cleaner, (a very volatile solvent). Then lube the chain in a plastic bag, and let it sit overnight, and if your really anal about your chain with it freshly lubed heat it up in the oven to about 300 degrees for 30-45 minutes, it expands the metal and allows for better penetration of the lube. Then clean the chain with a non-solvent degreaser like simple green. Now you have a super lubed, low friction, dry chain. Now remember, if you clean the chain with a solvent type degreaser it strips all the lube off, so use simple green or else you have to re-lube. The best citrus degreaser I have found is shimano sludge off, it has a minimal solvent effect but awesome easy cleaning, but beware it kills grass. Therefore use simple green for a mildly dirty drivetrain, as it will not remove any of the lube, however if more severe cleaning is needed, try the sludge off. I've maintained my bike meticulously for years but never spent this much time cleaning and lubing the chain. I started spending more time time cleaning the chain then using it. Seems to collect dirt. After carefully following all the instructions on the bottle, it was applied to a completely clean, sparkling chain, excess was wiped off right after the initial application, and again, after about 10 hours. After a 45-mile ride on smooth, clean roads, the chain turned from silver to black with tons of dust on the cassette cogs! And that metallic smell!!! Didn't quite work for me.
