Strengths:
Strong, stim, light, good looks, easy to maintain.
Weaknesses:
Periodically comes loose, annoying use of Imperial bolt size (minor complaint - it is only one extra allen key to carry after all). BBs for use with this crank don't have a lot of protection against water.

Bottom Line:
Fantastic crank. Light and strong, perfect for freeriding where you want the best uphill and downhill performance. I think I've solved the problem of the cranks coming loose - don't put too many spacers between the BB and crank to increase spline contact.

As all have said : stiff, strong, beautifull, alignement possibility, USA made, possibility to have spare or repair pieces easily, options on the length of the spindles and of the crankarms, they don't make any noise with both the crankarms or the bearing if you install and screw them correctly. Easy removable if you use the correct tools.
Weaknesses:
For some, the weight, but not for me. The spider : it's nice, but it's hard to obtain the shims and very long bolts if you ride with 3 chainrings (Profile doesn't supply long bolts and shims to fit to theyr spider).

Bottom Line:
As I'm an Old School BMX rider and MTBiker, I've allways had a great satisfaction to can add BMX strong components on my MTB. I've 6 Profile cranks as well on my Old School BMX bikes, New School BMX and MTB. They are very strong and durable cranks. Profile Racing is a pioneer and still there, approximately 30 years after their debut in BMX. Their cranks are made, for the MTB case, for the rider who wants a strong crank and not searching for the ultimate lightweight bike. For myself, my riding type is XC, Hard XC, All Mountain, single trails with uphill and downhill adn little jumps here and there.

BB Bearings don't last long. After 4 months mine where trashed. Note I do ride over 200miles per week in the all weather conditions.
These cranks allowed my move the chain ring closer to the frame which meant I could use the big ring up front more often (reduced chain angle). With the long arms I could use a bigger gear, climb MUCH easier, top speed is higher, RPMS are the same 100-130rpms (highest I hit was 135 during an interval session don't believe that crap about long cranks=low rpms), Can use more of my hammstring muscle thus keeping power on tap for a long period of time resulting a smoother ride.
The big test was at the Mass Blue Hill Ski area. With the wet rocks and very very loose gravel (I still had my 60mm wide Schwable slicks on)the cranks allowed me to keep a steady power and torque out put so the tire stayed in contact with the ground, then there the Penn National Park where is was technical and dusty. Again the the cranks allowed me increase the torque quickly with out having shift up or down too much. Need to get over a big rock just push or pull on the pedal a little harder and the big just road over it.
This is the bomb. Next I am going for some 230's!!!!!
See ya, actually you;ll see me blasting pass you:)

Very stiff and strong. Adjustable chainline. All standard crank lengths available - even custom lengths. Allows choice of 110/74 and 94/58 spiders or use of single BMX chainwheel. Same basic design for 25+ years - individual replacement parts are widely available. Cro-Mo arms will put up with untold levels of punishment -- they'll laugh off a mishap, like a loose pedal, that would kill an aluminum arm in a matter of seconds.
Weaknesses:
The BB must be shimmed properly for decent service life of the bearings. The provided spacers don't account for small manufacturing tolerances of mass produced BB shells. Profile needs to provide an assortment of steel shims to accomodate such differences. Two spacers, one for 68mm, and one for 73mm shells just doesn't cut it. Luckily, I have access to a machine shop, and I was able to fabricate perfect length spacers for my setup. Almost five years have passed and I'm still on my original set of bearings.
I've got Profiles installed on my geared hardtail, my single speed, and I'm seriously contemplating installing a set on my road bike. Any future bikes I own will get a set as well.
Bottom Line:
Weight and BB setup issues aside, they're one of the best cranks available.
The weight issue is a little overblown. Here's an example:
Profile CR-MO arms,175mm:560g BB with Ti spindle: 311g 110/74 Spider: 90g Total-----------> 961g
177 grams difference. A full 16oz water bottle weighs about 543 grams. My sleek Ti hardtail that weighed 22 lbs even with standard cranks now weighs 22.4 lbs with the profiles installed. *BFD* Chainring/mount bolt weight is not included since they'd be installed regardless of cranks used. Is 177 grams extra weight worth it for a lifetime of worry free performance? I think so.

Crank arms and spindle are built like a tank; weight says it all. Chain ring and guard is a piece of art.
Weaknesses:
The bearings are the weakest out there, so they do need replacing every now and then, so if any signs of crank seizeures, get em replaced or you'll dammage the bottom bracket with it. The chain ring and guard is a piece of art, because its aluminium its going to wear out depending how much riding you do, and its going to be a really costly replacement.
Bike Setup:
Hard tail
Bottom Line:
The crank arms will out last your life, but the bearings and Profile chain ring won't out last your tires, maybe due to poor design so they do need a bit of carefull attention especially if conditions are wet and muddy. Therefore if you like to tinker like a mechanic and ride like a maniac with a fat wallet - you decide.

Good Lord. This little review page has been busy. All right, allow me to shatter your poorly conceived assumptions:
1) I am not a product "groupie," nor do I work for the company. I bought both sets of these cranks (SS, chromoly axle) through my own coin and I probably ride harder than most users here do (this lines up with my personal observations, anyway). They have remained intact, sans one shot bottombracket. Thus, they get a five-star review from me. This is not brain surgery.
2) Sure, cranks are not indestructible (see item #1, sentence #3). I find it highly unlikely that these cranks would break on a "demo," as was stated in the original post by "Broke." Unless they were installed improperly, which is possible. If "Broke" is the breed of tool that I take him to be.
3) Hmm. So "Broke" is really two people? Very believable (insert caustic *smirk*). Anyway if that really was the case (which I doubt) that implies that "Broke" #1 really did break a Profile crankset on a demo ride (see item #2, sentence #2-3). And why did "Broke" #2 defend "Broke" #1 and answer for him? And don't give me the e-mail excuse. The space for e-mail addresses on the review sheet is optional. The same user (er, loser) could post twice and not leave an e-mail address.
4) "You probably spend more time online then riding." I almost had to wipe beer spray off the screen after reading this naive line of reasoning. I ride about 20-30 miles a week, most of these miles being urban freeriding and commuting. I spend only about 10 hours a week online for personal use, if that. If you really did have personal knowledge of me, you'd know that I don't suffer fools (or liars) like "Broke" gladly.
5) "I only come to get a general idea of what is being said about it, but I don't take anything personally or to heart." Right. So do I (see item #1). I also come here to deposit my $.02 on the product, and try to be as impartial as I can while considering various factors in my review (weight, riding style et al). I'm sure quite a few reviews on this site are fabricated but I am attacking one and only one review (Broke's) which struck me as overt lying. Several of my friends have spec'd Profiles on their bikes, as have I. I have yet to see any of theirs or mine break at the crankarm, even through a fair helping of reckless abuse. So when a reviewer comes along claiming that he broke a set on a "demo," I am inclined to think that he is, well, full of it (see item #4, last line). And it is my Constitutional right to say so on this page.
That all being said I close the books on this issue.
Go forth and get your bike dirty.

The bottom line is this. Good cranks, like all products out there there is good and bad, in this case you see far more good then bad. What is really funny though, is that Loki is on here complaining about the first review by "broke", and then calling the second review by "broke" back pedaling. Well Loki, I don't know who the first "broke" is, he is the one who left an email address, but the second "broke" was a different person. Please loser, they are good cranks. You probably spend more time online then riding. If you think the original guy who posted the first review would actually come back and review again, he would of probably said that stuff that I said in the first place. Shows how easy it is to put words in others mouths. I do agree with one thing, that "some" people don't have the product that they review, that is why I only come to get a general idea of what is being said about it, but I don't take anything personally or to heart <-- advice for Loki.

LOL. Classic backpedaling.
If this was the case, why did you mysteriously neglect to mention it in your previous review? It might have given it some credibility. Instead, your first attempt sounds like a venomous rant ("image and marketing hype," "half of you don't even have them."). Also, if you really do own sets of Profile cranks (which I somehow doubt), why didn't you say so to begin with? "Credibility," remember? And when people who have actually used the product spoke up and said plainly that your post was misinformation, you throw this "I was just venting!" act. Ha. Bottom Line:
Killer cranks that are super stiff and very affordable if you do what I did. Buy a pair of BMX Profiles off ebay. I got mine for $70 complete with bottom bracket. You'll have to buy a MTB BB conversion kit from Profile for like $70 and also a spider thats about another $25. That all adds up to roughly $165 which is way cheaper then anything comparable. Plus, you'll have an extra set of BMX bearings that you can re-sale on ebay for 20-30. My only problem is trying to figure out what size spacer to mount my inner Race Face chain ring. I sort of eyeballed it and used a 7.1 mm which when combined with the 1mm spacing built into the Profile spider gives about the right space for clean shifts. If anyone knows the official size, or has some suggestions, drop me a line.

Bottom Line:
I agree with Loki on this one! What on god's earth would motivate so many people to lie about owning a set of these cranks and then writing glowing reviews anyway? Go figure? In more than a decade these puppies have barely changed. For years I jumped, stumped, ramped, raced, dropped, freestyled and simply pedaled on profiles. The worst thing that happened? A slightly bent axle ... Why? In one week I rode off my garage roof (2.93 meters) 6 times!!!!!! And before you ask why? It was for a magazine shoot. The greatest irony was that Profile replaced the axle at no charge. There is a lifetime warranty on the crank arms and spindle. Woody Itson or Eddie Viola in their heydays didn’t break them...... That’s until somebody showed up claiming that they broke a pair during a demo, and that the majority of these reviews were written by riders who don't actually own these cranks...... I will stop short of calling you a liar (but only just). And as for hype, Profile would be one of the most frugal advertisers on the mtb scene. Compared to the vast majority of Mtb companies Profile never makes outlandish or silly claims. Unless they can back it up by way of reputation. And profile earned this respect. These cranks are made with good old fashioned quality American engineering and are surprisingly unknown outside of BMX, Downhill and dirt jumping circles. Now in my old age I still have profile cranks and its on a Weight weenie cannondale! And I don’t work for profile, I’m not a yank and I don’t even live in the US. But it really is a shame that certain people make pretty baseless accusations toward something that has proven to be excellent over such a long period of time. I the world of off road cycling this is a very rare thing. Your frame's is more likely to kick the bucket before the cranks (profile) do. Phew that’s my bit! Sorry……….

Let me assure you, Mr. "Broke," I own these cranks. I have been tougher on these cranks than 90% of the users on this site can claim. I am a 255 pound downhill and urban assault rider that buys his own parts thank you, and I am here to tell you that Profile cranks do indeed live up to their indestructible reputation.
I'll be the first to confess that I did bend my bottom bracket. However, it was on a 12 foot drop to a flat landing that would've snapped any aluminum crankarm to pieces upon impact. Before that, the same set of Profiles endured a year of abusive riding that would surely void any manufacturer's warranty. And these cranks took it without complaining. My other set under the same abuse is still going strong. Anybody who says that "I bent these on a demo/first ride/cross-country ride," either is an incredible liar or simply installed them wrong.
Do not abuse this site sir, and do not waste our time with your bogus allegations. That is all I have to say.

The splined axle bended and now the cranks wont turn without excessive force and will cause my frame to 'ping'. It sounds exactly like a frame that cracks. Looking to profile internet site, it doesn't seem like a titanium axle exist for SS cranks... It's not a tapered mountain bike crank!! Doen't really matter who makes them profile,Odosey, primo, kona.... Its a stonger system. I've distroyed numberous shimano cranks as well as truvativ and black spire cranks because of breaking bottom brackets in them. Snapping BB's in a crank frys the tapper! Think about it, standard mountain bike cranks have a purpose(moving you forward) they do that very well. how ever they don't stand up well in impacts. No matter how strong a crank set is the BB is still relitivly weak. Thus on a hard landing you will hear a loud snap as your none drive crank hits the ground leaving only a 3/4" blade of a severed BB spindle with razer sharp teeth from the fractured threads. This razer sharp spindle may then work as a spoon shaped knife on the inside of your leg. This is usually a real b!tch because A. you need a new BB B. Your cranks will never be the same C. you waste your afternoon sitting reading year old time mags. in a crouded emergeny room.
BMX style cranks solve this by not only giving you strong arms as well as somthing solid to clamp them on to. And for those people on budget and can't afford new cranks all the time. They come with a built in saftey feature, There are stronger then the bones in your leg. unless your an American bone is cheeper to fix. Profiles are the strongest out there!! and don't bother with the DH version its over kill!!!!
If your killing cranks buy these!! If your fat buy these!! If you break these, find a new sport!!!
Weaknesses:
heavy: Some people honestly don't need to run cranks like these but they do any way! why bog down your bike if you don't need to. The cranks have no notable weaknesses

But if your a big guy, or ride off big stuff, or don't know how to land small stuff, don't want to worry about your cranks, X-BMX'er or you want to pose at the base of grouse buy these cranks.

This is without a doubt the best crank design out there. As simple as possible and virtually indestructible. It is no accident that 90% of BMXers and all downhill racers that pay for their own parts run these. If you don't like the retro chrome look, Profile sells the arms powder coated now, too. Where else can you get custome lengths from 150mm to 200+??
Weaknesses:
If the monkey that's installing them doesn't know what he's doing, they can be a pain in the rear, just ask "Andrejs V". Don't bother taking them to a shop to install unless you live on a downhill course. Mountain bikers generally don't know how to install these right(no offense). Follow the instructions from Profile, even if you think you can do something better.

There is nothing that compares. I have ridden just about every BMX crank made in the last ten years, and these are the best. It is a waste of time to even mention anything with a tapered square BB. I have used those too, and they are worthless.
There is nothing better in the world of real cranks. The adjustability of the chainline alone is almost worth getting these cranks. I had a set of Profiles on a freestyle bike for four years and they were still in perfect shape when I sold the last bike they were in. I guarantee they outlast every single other piece on your bike. Seriously. If you need help with installation(possibly) or warranty(not likely), the guys at Profile are all very knowledgeable, and what's even better, patient. They will help you.

local bike shop-- support yours!
Strengths:
These cranks are strong, simple but effective, and materials are 2nd to none. Available in many sizes-- 160mm to 190mm plus custom sizes up to 206mm(yeah!)
Weaknesses:
Pedal threads are questionable quality and compromise pedal fit. Chrome is pitted and thin in spots. Not all the welding slag has been removed, leaving small "chocolate chips" in the plating. I think these guys smoke "funny" cigarettes on the job-- it's the details that suffer. BB spindle could be about 2/3 the weight without compromising strength; it's not even drilled through.
BUT... I save my true wrath for the bottom bracket design. 2 FIXED CUPS! Unbelievable. For those who do not grasp the implications, that means that if your BB shell does not match the furnished spacer sleeve EXACTLY, like within a couple of thousandths of an inch of perfect, then you will thrust-overload or crush your bearings when the cups or the arms are installed. Many users complain of poor bearing life and this is why!
Similar Products Used:
Bullseye 2pc, Primo Powerbite, GT 3pc alloy, Truvativ Hussefelt
I will preface myself by saying that after fitting these cranks, I have had no trouble with them at all. The measures I had to take in order to fit them properly nobody should have to take (if they have paid top dollar for the best.)
I suspect that they were trying to make it easier for the typical 13 year old paint-huffing freestyler to install using a pair of Vise-Grips, but the result is that nobody, not even one who knows better, can adjust it properly.
I was able to achieve a good fit by making my own spacer sleeve in the machine shop (after measuring my BB stackup to within .001",) but how many end users can do that? I had to resort to more careful machining techniques than Profile did to make the darn things!
I hear that AC makes a Profile compatible BB that has proper bearing adjustability.
Also, the pedal boss welds on my cranks overlapped onto the pedal faces and the threads themselves. I returned my first pair on warranty for this problem, but the replacements were defective in the same way (not as badly.)
I wound up filing the pedal faces smooth and chasing the threads out with 9/16"-20 RH & LH taps. Again I ask how many end users can do this?
If I had just installed them as received, they would not have broken, but I would have had chronic BB bearing problems and the pedals would have been crooked and prone to loosen.
FOR $250 RETAIL THE BUYER DESERVES A BETTER PRODUCT!!!
Three flaming goose stogies for not breaking, plus one for coming in almost any size. One point six for third world craftsmanship at a first world price. Call it three overall.

Weaknesses:
Weight? Who the f*ck cares. My bike is already up over 50 pounds... My only real complaint is that they are wide at the BB and tend to clip your inside ankle bone occaisionally. I hear that AXO makes an ankle bone protector...
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
If you're a big guy, go big, or hate stuff that snaps, bends or brakes, then these cranks are a no-brainer. The guy way at the bottom who says that all the North Shore guys ride raceface is way out to lunch. Yes, raceface may be the most popular crank out there (due to OEM sales and such), but the serious riders ride profile cranks (unless sponsored by a crank mfgr). Everyone who goes big knows that it's the ultimate upgrade. It's just like a King headset: stick the crankset on the bike and forget about them.
Other nice issues are quick install/removal, and the ability to adjust the chainline. As far as i'm concerned, after lots of dough on expensive raceface cranks and wimpy Shimano cranks, it's a non-issue to put the profiles on my bike.

The most bulletproof crank on the market. Granted, they are a bit heavier than the others out there but I am less concerned about weight than something that might break on me. My old Shimano XTR crankset met an untimely death after a pretty burly fall. Totally screwed up the spline. A friend told me about the Profiles and ever since I have made the changeover, I feel more and more everyday that I made a good investment. Totally strong cranks. The best out there.

They came in after like 10 WEEKS, (yeah I am patient), but when they came in, the threads on my cranks at the pedals were RUSTED AND ROUNDED. I supposedly got a call from a certain Kevin individual from Profile, and told me that Profile utilized a rounded cut, and some other crap... WHAT the hell is that? I smell a stink... I can't believe this crap! What the hell is this. Profile employees, if you're reading this, you should get back to me, with a GOOD discount on cranks just for feeding me this sh1t... Talking to both civil and structural engineers that i know, they ALL agree what I got was more than likely a used set of cranks. So, is Profile selling me stolen goods? Refurbished sh1t? If so, why am I being charged full price? Absolutely repulsive. I have ceased dealing with these people, and all I can say is BUYER BEWARE. BOTH Planet X and 24Seven tell me their cranks will come WITH SHARP STRAIGHT THREADS WITHOUT THE EXCESSIVE RUSTING that I experienced in the Profile cranks. Do these ppl understand that threads like that are PRONE TO CROSSTHREAD? WHICH OF COURSE WOULD NULLIFY MY WARRANTY! Does anyone else smell the stink now? I can't believe this... I'm insulted... I even had these guys tell me I was wrong, some "pro bmxer" told me so, well I'll be damned if a "pro bmxer" knows more tech than the STRUCTURAL AND CIVIL ENGINEERS who MAKE A LIVING dealing with issues as such... BUYER BEWARE, somethings shady here... and it stinks...
