Bottom Line:
these tires are hard to beat for the price and weight. I ran them tubeless w stans for about a weak but chickened out and put tubes back in. the side walls are very thin but never had any problems pinching tubes. @ 28 ft 32 r. this tire corners very hard on loose and hard pack. it is very predictable when it does drift and makes two wheel 20mph drifts lots of fun. have been looking for a better set up but have not found one yet.

Strengths:
A true 2.3 width. Round.
Weaknesses:
Awful cornering performance, kicks the bike around over rocks, no grip, loose bead, cut sidewall in three rides.
Turner Six Pack, Z1 Light, Crossmax ST, X.9, DHX Air.
Bottom Line:
I wanted to like these tires, since I'm a fan of the Fire 2.1 and 2.4. They just didn't work in my loose over hardpack conditions. The grip as a little better at 28psi, but I could feel the squirm. Anything above 30psi was too unpredictable and kicked the bike around in strange ways. I ran them with tubes, and also tried to seal them onto UST rim with Stans. The bead is too loose to hold air with sealant. It's not the tire's fault, since it isn't UST, but the loose bead explains tire squirm. I was going to sell them, but found a sidewall cut that stopped that plan. Two chilis for being round.

These tires rock !! Don't understand the bad reviews because my trail is full of rocks, roots and drops. The only flat I have had is when the briars get in the trail after a storm. I'm a 200 pounder so I run them around 45 psi. They grip and roll very well. Haven't tried the tubeless gig, but I bet they work even better with the stans. I really, really like this tire and have no problems with it in the 29'er version. But in the 26" version it is totally useless for me. I literally had at least one pinch flat every ride and even pinched the front and the back at the same time before I couldn't take it any longer and had to remove them. They seriously need to beef up the sidewalls or come out with a Rampage FR version, a tire this size wants to be pushed harder than this can take on my trails.

Bottom Line:
I've had the Panaracer Rampage 2.35 on my 07 Fuel EX7 for almost a year now (front and back). These tires are the BEST trail tires I have tried:
-True size, measures 2.38 at the widest (on DTSwiss 5.1d rims), Fits perfectly on the Fuel EX with no rubbing issues.
-Light weight, weighs 700 g per tire.
-Fast Roller, climbs fast and easy, hardly any drag
-Durable sidewalls and knobs, Gone down the Mt. Wilson Shuttle to El Prieto several times without a flat, sidewall tear or missing knobs.
-Snake bite protection, this works, usually run 28 psi in front and 30 in the back when using tubes, no problems.
-The rubber compound has a good combination of excellent grip, decent tread life, and predictable handling.
-Stans no tubes certified.
-Made in Japan.

Strengths:
Great cornering traction. Very predictable and neutral while cornering. Sealed easily with Stan's. Lightweight, especially for the volume.
Weaknesses:
Rear braking is a little weak because of the ramps on the knobs. It's not weak enough for me to consider a different rear tire, though. They seem to be hard to find in my area, though.

Bottom Line:
Great tire for the dry conditions that I ride in. They perform well on hardpack and loose conditions. I feel completely confident cramming them into a corner. They've never suddenly broken completely loose; they hook up very well if they do slide or drift. I liked the WTB Mutanoraptors more than I thought I would, but when they broke loose they never seemed to hook back up again.
The Rampages look a lot like Kenda Nevegals. I've never ridden on Nevegals so I can't compare the ride characteristics. They seem to last longer than my friends' Nevegals (or my old Karmas), though.
I highly recommend them for aggressive trail riding in dry conditions.

This is my follow up to my earlier review. These tires are decent all round tires but they definitely score low when it gets wet. I have ridden these tires on trails in Pemberton, Whistler, Squamish and the North Shore. I pedal up as well as ride every drop, log and loose section of trail I can find. Basically I have ridden these tires on everything. They handle well when it is dry but as soon as it is wet they leave something to be desired in the traction department. I also rode these tires on a trip through Boise, Moab and Bend. The trail conditions there were dry and loose. The tires dealt with everything very well. Cornering at high speeds through the loose wasn't scary with these tires. They hooked up unbelievably well in the corners! As for the complaints about pinch flats, I have only had that happen once. I am a tall (6'6") and heavy (240lbs) guy. I run my tires at 40psi. I do agree that the sidewalls feel flimsy but I haven't had any issues yet. Again these are a great 'all terrain' tire when it is dry. I have now moved on to the Panaracer Fire DH tires. These are unbelievable wet condition tires.

I just found my new favorite tire. Just cleaned two really tough rock-sections on the Ben Lomond trail yesterday. These things grip like none other. No slippage whatsoever across a wet wooden bridge the day before. I give the tire the credit. Bombing down, I stayed tight over rocks, roots, and loose sand. The only tire that can come close is the Kenda Nevs. I run Stans, so no pinch flats. I've torn the nobs off tires before on the Skyline trail (Lewis Peak), and the Rampages look great after beating them really hard (38 psi font/rear).

Well, it held up pretty well. A lot of rubber is underneath the tread of this tire so it rolls real good, but it leaves the sidewalls some what thin and flimsy. But, because its low profile you don't really feel it flexing in the twistys and its very predictable. But, it is a better rear tire than front, and does descend real good. The anti-snake bite thingy works real good, although i have found you can get away with 30psi on less rocky terrain. Its a bity tire, and climbs alright too.
Weaknesses:
Well, I've put hundreds of miles on this tire and it held up great until recently. I took it off the rim today and it has about 10 1/2 inch to an inch long slashes in the casing, that actually go all the way through the tire, and even some of the slashes were only on the inside which kinda boggles my mind. The tpi count is probably where you want it at for this tire, and in my case the rubber compound was perfect, not to soft and not to hard. Although, as it wore down it tended to get a little too slippery in the turns, but was easy to remedy just by shifting my weight farther back over the rear wheel.
Similar Products Used:
All sorts of tires. WTB, Kenda, Schwalbe, Specialized, Hutchinson, Continental, Panaracers Fire Free ride.

Bottom Line:
Buy this tire, it is a great rear tire. And for those of you out there who don't mind riding with a lot of rubber on the mountains and hills, running the rampage 2.35 in the rear and running the panaracer fire free ride 2.4 tire in the front is a great combanation. The burning edge side knobs really dig in great and my bike has never handled better. I'm kinda dissappointed in the casing, I've really thrased this tire and since it was so beefy I thought i could get away with it, but apparently not. But i'm sold on panaracer tires, they are great bang for the buck. Because even though it is still a little worn down, it still has tread, doesn't climb as well or descend as well as it used to, but if the casing actually would of held up I would still be using this tire just because it handles sooo good going down. Its worth pedaling around all that rubber around.

I was disappointed when I got 2 pinch flats on the same ride. I'm used to riding my nevegal's at 36psi and I would never get a pinch flat. So I pumped the Rampage up to 40 and I didn't get any more flats but the traction really suffered. I appreciate that this is a light tire for its size but I get the feeling they went a little to far. I guess if you rode flat and smooth trails then they would be fine, but I can't see riding a 2.35 on smooth trails. The reason I go with a wide tire is so that I can run over the nasty stuff. I took them off and went back to the Nevegals. My friend said that the name rampage was appropriate, because after getting 2 pinch flats in the same ride, that is what you go into as you rip them off your bike.

I am a dedicated Panaracer tire fan. I loved the Fire XC's when I was a cross country nerd. I moved to the Fire FR's when I moved into the pedal freeride category. The Fire FR's did the job exceptionally well in ALL conditions, so when I decided to move down in tire size I went with the Rampage 26". The tires have done everything I have expected a good all conditions tire to do. I only have a minor complaint and that is the side knobs aren't as prominent as the Fire FR's so they have a tendency to slide off of off camber rocks and roots a little more. But I have been riding in the wet since I have put these tires on. When it is wet everything will get a bit slippy! Hopefully I will remember to post an update after some more mileage. I am stoked on the tires as I stated but I also get tires at a discounted rate so my value rating will be skewed. Also, I am not giving a top rating yet because I need to ride on the tires more.

Cannot run tubeless, for being such a heavy tire, it actually has pretty flimsy sidewalls and most of the rubber is on the top of the tire.

I have been looking for a new set of tyres for weeks and finally settled on the rampages based upon the reviews I have found for the 29" set.
Anyway the tyres roll really well and I found myself with gears to spare on routes where I would usually be spinning away in the granny ring. It was a revelation. On the descents I was able to rail into berms that previously I was worried about. The tyres don't look as if they should grip as well as they do, but they do. On wet rock and roots they coped no better/worse than any other tyre I have used.
