Date Reviewed: January 17, 2005
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:came with a build kit
Strengths:2.5 great for freeride/downhill. Knobs are nicely set up for good mud disipation and rolls just as good on pavement. The sidewalls seem pretty strong. I've scrapped a couple of times and thought i'd probably damaged the tire but nothing to show.
Weaknesses:none that i've found
Similar Products Used:IRC Kujo 2.35, stock ones
Bike Setup:Giant AC, Marzocchi DJ3, singletrack rims with black spokes, powertools hubs, hayes 8" DB, easton HB's/Stem, truvativ cranks
Bottom Line:Overall i'm pretty happy with these tires. The knobs do great on the trails and havent had any problems with either mud or sand. The 2.5" profile helps out with the sand. Rolls just as good on the pavement with no real noticable sound. It seems to be made really well. As I wrote up top, i've scrapped my walls agains a couple things and thought I had damaged them but no marks or damage at all... so far...(knock on wood). I bought a freeride build kit from Wheel World and these came with it. Originally i was just gonna test them out and keep them as spares but I'm so happy with them that now they are my all time tires. Like with any other tire, suggest you keep the air pressure up to avoid pinch flats or any other troubles. Ride Hard, Live Well.

Weaknesses:tire wear

Bottom Line:well great tyres whilst theyre in mint condition but they wear quickly. people going for hardcore mud should go for these but if you are going to do any miles on road change tyres cos these wear quickly

Purchased At:chucks bikes
Strengths:good grip
Weaknesses:easy to puncture, tread wears down quickley on pavement
Similar Products Used:wtb
Bike Setup:KHS FR2000 w/marzocci z1 fr
Bottom Line:they are fine for trails and soft stuff but sharp things like thorns and glass will puncture it easily (easier than most tires). this season i rode more on pavement around town. they are almost bald now after only 3-4 months of mostly street riding. i have also had 2 flats in that time.
dont buy these if your an urban/dirt jumper. i dont know how much the tires actually cost because they came with the bike.

Price Paid: $15.00
Purchased At:wiggle
Strengths:grip, cost, low rolling resistance
Weaknesses:weak side walls, easily punctured
Similar Products Used:Tioga
Bike Setup:Cove Stiffee FR, Fox Forx Vanilla 125rlc, raceface
Bottom Line:These tyres seemed to offer the solution to the pinch flats I was getting using trailblasters.

How wrong was I.

The side walls flex even at high pressures giving the feeling you have a flat on anything other than a flat trail.

And what flats you will have! Pinches, thorns etc seem to throw themselves at you on every ride!

Its a flawed tyre which I have no confidence in.

However it was cheap!

Oh and Im 14-15 stone so not so fat as to expect anything other than a MX tyre to pinch.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Byman
Strengths:Great grip
Great looks ;)
Weaknesses:None yet.
Similar Products Used:Nokian, Michelin, Panaracer (different products)
Bike Setup:Identiti Exsorcist Frame, Marzocchi Z5 Drop fork, XT/XTR/DEORE, Giant MPH3 Discs.
Bottom Line:When riding MegaBlasters, besides getting a lot of looks, this is a great piece of tirework. I love the grip, it is fantastic riding different stuff, and the energy absorbed by the normal roads, which have to be surfaced some times, dont they?, is SO low.

Im amazed of the price and eminent quality of the tires... I love 'em!

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:The Path Bike Shop
Strengths:Great pinch resistance.
Light-weight for the size.
Great cornering and climbing.
Great volume.
Last's a long time!
Weaknesses:How about a 2.7!
Similar Products Used:WTB (too thin), Tioga (too heavy)
Bike Setup:Run these tires on both my Bullit and my SS.
Bottom Line:Great tire for front or rear, on almost any bike where you'd like either a high-volume or wider tire. I have yet to find a weakness. TOTALLY happy with this tire.

Submitted by Jeff Wu a Racer from Boulder, CO
Date Reviewed: October 13, 2002
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $35.00
Strengths:light weight freeride tire
big air volume
well spaced knobs
relatively cheap
Weaknesses:rubber compound could be softer
needs high pressures(35+) to avoid pinch flats
Similar Products Used:Panaracer Pyro
Bike Setup:Dirt Works Piranha, Tech In T-11 fork
Bottom Line:This is one of the few tires on the market that is designed for freeriding. It has a very good tread pattern and the 2.5 size makes this tire grip well in many conditions. Because of the regular rubber compound used, the tire does not grip too well on wet roots and rocks. Also, it is a little sketchy in really loose terrain.
I ran this tire in a DH race in NM with 35psi and had no pinch flats.

Favorite Trail:Triple Crown, Nicole's
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $38.00
Purchased At:Blak Dog Bikes
Strengths:Grip, looks like good mud shedding due to well spaced knobs.
Very light for such a large volume tire. (2.5" and only 800g)
Weaknesses:Some loss of traction in really loose conditions. Heavy, but if you bought this tire you probably don't really care.
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:Specialized 2001 Enduro Sport. Added SNAFU BMX pedals, Axiom telescoping seatpost, Avid mechanical disc brakes, Mavic F219 rims, Deore hubs, PC-69 chain, BlackSpire Ring God, and Michelin DH Comp 16 Soft 2.2" Rr. Tire since purchase last year. What a geek.
Bottom Line:Panaracer bills this as a "freeride" tire. All in all, it is fairly grippy and stable and a good buy for someone who wants a high volume tire for demanding technical downhills and treacherous terrain. Unfortunately, I cannot give it a higher grade because I am now addicted to slow rebound rubber. What a geek.
