The FireXCPro square-profile, variable-height Torch Tread grips all terrain all the time, while the Burning Edge side knobs put cornering on rails. The Absolute F&R system means you can run the same tire front and rear, and there's Ant-SnakeBite protection too. Choose from 2.1 or 1.8-inch widths.

These are the best tires I have ever used. I have used them in every trail condition imaginable and they have always done great. I have put over 2000 miles on my latest pair and they are still railing the corners. My only complaint is the tread doesn't shed the thick mud very well but I tend to avoid muddy trails so its not a huge problem.

Bottom Line:
Rode Pythons forever, switched to the Fire XC Pro because of weak side walls on the Hutchinsons. Gained a little weight and a ton of durability in the conversion. The exrta weight was well worth it. I will still run Pythons as steer tires in hard pack. Performance: Ive never ridden anything better than the Fire XC Pro. It does everything very good (dont ride in sand or extream mud so can not really comment here). Grabs corners, rarely slips on climbs and blasts through rock gardens without ruining the side walls. I have several sets of these tires on multiple bikes, some over three years old. I've only experienced one side wall failure and worn out the tread on one. For those who say these do not handle well, I suggets you run them in the correct direction for the wheel you have them mounted on. I mistakenly ran my rear tire backwards and had some pretty bad results. Realized what was wrong, re-mounted the tire and got perfect performance.

These are the worst "high performance" tires I have ever used. I was tempted by the price, and yes, I know there are cheaper versions out there, but these ARE the quality high thread count version I am reviewing. I have used a few pairs of these (on friends bikes and mine) and the only things they have going for them are price and how long they last. If you want a reliable tire that sucks for a long time, get this or get one of those tires off of a WalMart bike. I hate to be a negative nancy, so I will say that if you want a long lasting tire at an extremely cheap price, these are it. But if wet roots, dry rocks, stream crossings, mud, sand, I dunno...SOIL, are in your way as you ride, these will make it more of a challenge.
Someone please explain why these are so popular? I guess I can see why they are so cheap.

For the price, I am very pleased. I run it at the lower end of the pressure rec. and have had no problems with pinch flats in the very rocky terrain I ride. Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
I picked up my bike with a set of Specialized stock tires, which I don't remember the names of. I rode on those a few times and couldn't help but spin out and lose traction often.
I put the set of Fire XC Pros and it was a huge improvement. They climb very well as brake well on steep sections. Descending in any terrain is rather predictable in these and if slides happen, they are controllable.
Cornering traction is good. I was rater surprised at how good it actually was on a twisty singletrack with lots of old foliage on the ground. It also does well in the wet and over wet leaves.
Deep mud bogs them down. I didn't put that as a weakness because they are not really the tires designed for deep mud. I can't hold that against them.
Overall a great buy and I would recommend them highly. I was looking into getting a different set of tires just to try out when these wear out but this is solely because I like to try different setups.

Well, my bearings went out on my bike and I swapped wheels with my boy. The front is HORRIBLE! It would be holding in a corner and then snap, I'm drifting. I lost all confidence in the tire as a front and my joy factor in riding went down. I recently replaced the rear Panaracer because it was sliding all over the place under braking. The knobs were wore down and I put another 2.1" Panaracer. Conclusion: Singletrack, lightweight riding with no real good downhills- tire is o.k. if you get it cheap.

I thought going from the 2.25 to the 2.1 would change my handling, but no, they are great. Dry corners I would have never dreamed to take at high speed even when the Jones were new the XC’s pulled off with ease, so much more confidence in turns and high speed technical sections, and they climb great too. I know it is not much to say that they are better than the Jones as most tires seem to be, but I will put them up against stock specialized and the Larsen TT’s as well. Have improved handling and confidence in my riding, definitely recommend. As for durability, that I will have to wait and see on that as I have only had them a month and only about 150 miles on them….but so far so good.

I love these tires. I just ordered my 2nd pair from Price Point. I thought about getting some Nevegals, then realized what a waste of money that would be. These tires are just great. You can't beat the price, and they work terrific. Gobs of traction, I run around 40 to 45psi to ward off pinch flats and it's worked for 2 years. Will continue to use them as long as they are available.

Bottom Line:
I've been through about 3 sets of these now. 1 set will last me a season (500-600 offroad miles). For the price, these cannot be beat. I laugh when I hear all these riders buying $40-$50 Kendas etc, when these tires grip fantastically and last reasonably well. I have never had any problems with sidewalls (as with all Specialized tires I've had), knobs chunking off, pinch flats, etc. Grip is tremendous in most conditions. They are not a mud tire, and traction is mediocre in wet conditions, but not poor. I've run both the 60tpi and 127tpi, and guess what? There's hardly a difference. Anyone who tells you the 127 is vastly superior likes to throw money away because I think the 60 is a little more durable, albeit a little heavier. In fact, I buy only the 60's now.
A riding partner of mine switched from Welociraptors which he loved to XC pros and he agrees they are a much better tire (with the exception of wet grip, where the raptors seemed to be better).
You won't be dissapointed.

you can get these tyres in 2 versions, the 60 or 127 tpi....the 127 cost a few buck more but are much lighter and roll FAR BETTER due to the higher threads per inch....i have the 127's. they are excellent all rounders in all conditions which is perfect for me...each ride of mine is made up of tarmac, rock gardens, loose soil, dusty conditions and mud in the winter...these tyres perferm well in all and only provide little grip in clay....but if u want good grip in clay u need mud specif tyres and nothing less...these tyres are so excellent i have 2 spare just in case! I only wish panaracer makes the FR(beefed up wider version) using the same high perfermance construction like mine.....wud love to try a wider such tyre at front....panaracer can u hear me??

I use these with Stans No Tubes and they sealed up perfectly. I ride singletrack in SE Ohio, a mix of clay based dirt, loose soil, rocks, roots...a little bit of everything; these tires are THE best I have ever owned.
My new Santa Cruz Superlight came stock with Kenda Nevegal 2.1 and I would not recommend those to anyone, unless they are the type to like slow tractor tires that wear out in less than 400 miles. Do not believe the hype.

I ride typical northern AZ trails and the front tire was washing out so much that I put my old worn out Bontrager tire that came with my bike back on the front. Also, contrary to another review, these tires don't provide good traction on snow or ice, but that's ok because they aren't really supposed to. Rolls good in the woods, great traction on hard pack and loose over hard pack, great traction on roots, good traction on larger rocks
Weaknesses:
Narrow, kicks up lots of sand/dirt when you are really moving, traction was ok on pea sized gravel over hard pack (not as good as my High Rollers)
Similar Products Used:
Not necessarily similar but, Maxxis High Roller, WTB Velociraptor, Maxxis Advantage
Bike Setup:
On One Inbred slot drop out set up single speed with RS Revelation and mostly DH or FR parts.
Bottom Line:
The bottom line is that these tires are very capable cross country tires. I was initially worried about rolling resistance because in the parking lots you can really feel the knobs rolling along. However in the woods they were fine. They turn in very tight, so tight I immediately had to change my cornering technique. They worked better than expected on roots. Better than my High Rollers did. My only complaint is the width of the tire. It's not really the tire's fault. This is the narrowest tire that I have ever ridden and I am used to having a little more cushion from wider tires. The Fire DH is wider but the width comes at a huge weight penalty.
The bottom line is, if you ride east coast single track with its roots and rocks and on mostly dry trails this is a solid option for you.

Bottom Line:
As my stock Bonty tires were starting to wear out I wanted to have a lighter XC-oriented tire rather than the stock AM / trail tires. I also wanted to be able to rotate the tires from front to rear (for longer wear) so side specific tires like the Smoke and Dart are out of the equation. Enter the Fire XC Pro! For under $25 for the Japanese made 127 TPI version at Performance Bike this was a steal!
On my first ride on my local dirt path, I could not feel the difference in rolling resistance. Perhaps TPI count was over rated, but when I rode on pavement it felt fast. Grip was an improvement compared to the stock Bontrager which would slide before finally getting grip.
Taking it to my favorite trail these tires really shined. With loose rock over hard pack fire roads and single track the Fire XC gripped the trail like it had claws. I didnt feel the rear tire loose grip at all. The front slipped a tiny bit on more agressive downhill turns but that could be attributed to loose conditions and aired up to almost max tire specs. Next time I'll air it down -10 PSI.
I believe this is the best all around XC tire for the Southern California trails. Ride these tires for its intended design and it wont disappoint.

Put new 127TPI Fire XC Pros and all of the handling I expected from the bike is there. Some in our pod use the 60 TPI, easily distinguished by the small logo/decal, those hold up well but are heavier than the 127TPI and less supple. Gotta get the real ones, 127tpi, made in japan. Great grip in most conditions and can run them at pretty low pressure without problems. Decent Rolling resistance for the amount of grip they provide. Not bad for the occasional run around town on pavement. Resist flats. You can find good prices too.
Weaknesses:
Not very good in the wet once the mud starts to get real sticky. The tread starts to get clogged up and they don't clear well, then they lose grip. Would not recommend if you do a lot of pavement pedaling. Look a little small for 2.1's

These tires are great for most riding conditions. Great traction, even when climbing out of saddle. Hold tight in turns. I had puncture flat problems with the Kendas(could have been bad luck), changed to the FireXC's and haven't had any flats with these guys. Better traction then the Kendas. Switched to WTB Velociraptor tires for the wetter winter conditions because the FireXC's clogged up when things started to get muddy. Try these tires, you'll be happy.

I've found that the sidewalls tend to be pretty weak. Riding in the Catskills and Hudson Valley I've had to pump the pressure up to 50psi so that I don't pinch flat. At 40psi I was pinch flatting frequently. The terrain I ride is very rocky which is a factor also but I shouldn't need such high pressure in a tire. My Mythos XC tires that I ran before had no problems with pinch flatting on the same bike, riding the same areas with less pressure.

Kung-foo grip on the trail on technical out of saddle climbs; good grip in intermediate to loose terrain; handles predictably on fast, technical single track; seems to hookup very well in fast corners without feeling loose or sketchy; doesn't seem to knife around in big sand washes; tracks well on two tracks and fire roads.

Seemed like a decent do-all tire for the money. I felt that they really hooked up and handed very predictably. I was looking for something that rolled faster, so I was pretty disappointed with them. If you are an XC racer and want a good fast tire, I liked the Conti Explorers or the IRC Mibro Marathons. I went from my FSR that had the Fire XC's to a RM Element that had the Mibro's and it was night and day how much better the Mibro's rolled; not as predicatble of a handler though, they got a little sketchy when pushed. So, if a do-all tire is what you want, I think the Fire XC's are a good bet.

A very slow, unresponsive tire. This is a tire more suitable for stunts then riding off road. It takes way to much work to keep a moderate riding pace in any riding conditions, it doesnt hook up well in loose soil, its impossible to ride in sand, dont even consider commuting to your favorite trail with it, because a 2 mile ride feels like it takes 2 hours. The rubber compound is not sticky, so if you manage to get your bike up to speed, and if you take a curve on any hardpacked surface, the bike is going to fall out from under you. Who would have thought that someone riding an xc bike would have to wear full body protection!

I picked up these tires after reading all the rave reviews on MTBR. I ordered from PricePoint as I'd purchased gear from them in the past and I liked the cheap price.
Turns out, if you want the genuine, genuine Fire XC Pro's, don't order from Price Point. They sell the cheaper, less TPI "knock off" tires. You will not get the real Fire XC's w/ the large lettering on the side (not that the lettering is the important thing, it just seems to be the easiest to see indicator of genunine Panaracers).
As far as I can tell, the tread pattern is the same as the genuine tires. These tires are, based on what I can see, about 100g heavier than genuine.
Anyway - I've only done a short ride on them along a hard packed limestone trail, no single track yet. The tires are nice, a definite upgrade over the Bontragers.
The main reason I wanted to write the review was to point out that PricePoint DOES NOT carry the genuine Panaracer tires. Order from another source if you want those.
Despite these not being genuine, I threw them onto my bike and will thoroughly abuse them this spring/summer/fall. We'll see how the hold up over the long term. For the price, I can't complain but next time I'll be ordering from a different vendor.

Strengths:
Number one strength of this tire is its resistance to flats. Iv rolled over everything with this tire. I rolled over the edge of a sharp rock and the tire made a very loud popping noise, i thought i slased the tire for shure but it was fine. Hooks up great and corners very well.
Weaknesses:
Keep this tire off road not on the road thats what its made for.

Bike Setup:
Giant XTC frame with full carbon in the rear, XT and LX shifting.
Bottom Line:
Great tire its cheap so if you do use this off road and occasionally on the road like I do then its not a pain on your wallet to replace it. Also it comes with cool side wall colors to match your bike I have the blue makes the bike setup look cool. If you ride hard packed, loose , or semi muddy terrain this is the tire for you. Not an Extreme Mud tire. Best all around tire for off road.

Strengths:
good price at 2 for $35 or so; havent had a flat since i switched to these with a kevlar bead; grip well and give warning before sliding out
Weaknesses:
Higher rolling resistance; havent done well for me in wet conditions as they pick up a lot of mud
Similar Products Used:
Various specialized tires from LBS
Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
Can't beat the price. These have done well for me allowing me to corner harder and make it up the hardpacked/loose climbs here in texas. Increase in rolling resistance, but I assume this comes with any tire that grips better. Great all-around tire.

Strengths:
Amazing traction in dry conditions, corner well, and even do surprisingly well on hard pack snow and frozen trails in the winter. Light weight. look sweet too.
Weaknesses:
wear kind of fast on pavement, but not a problem if you keep them where they belong...in the dirt. Also, not so hot in the mud.

KHS XC Hardtail, with all sorts of upgrades...basically bombproof
Bottom Line:
These tires do what they're supposed to. They are quite grippy, and don't have that much rolling resistance if kept at a decent PSI. They Look sweet. I think you can get a pair for $32 or something, so they're pretty cheap. If you need some tires and ride somewhere that's generally dry, get them.
