As soon as I fitted this seatpost I knew that it is a really good quality item. I guess that if you are going to bring a seatpost today in the present market place then it has got to be very good.... and this one is, basically it should sell for much more than it does and that would be right. At this price it is awesome! Decent weight and finish make this a winner. I have had no clamp problems or slippage issues.

Excellent post.....I was worried my these reviews but I have had no trouble at all. Being a car mechanic ( hence quite handy )...and realising that this is a German product & I have the stem and bar too... I knew that the set up would need to be gradually tightened to eat into the aluminium and grip well and that it does. I have not used a torque wrench but have had so far no trouble and am delighted with it. Oh and no creaks either. There is no other post that competes at this price point.

The Oval Concepts M600 mountain bike seatpost is lightweight and the quality and finish of each part is good. The small, serrated crescent-shaped washers on the clamp bolts will be easy to lose and hard to replace. Setup requires more attention to detail than other seatposts that I have installed, and you must precisely torque the bolts on the friction style clamp. No torque values or instructions are included in the packaging for this product or on the product website. Because clamping bolt torque is critical, adjusting seat angle or fore-aft position while on the trail is not practical.
During initial setup the seatpost clamp slipped and I incrementally increased the bolt torque until the clamp held position. In the process I bent the top clamp due to overtorquing. I contacted Oval Concepts through their website and after exchanging many emails over an 8 week period they finally provided a replacement top clamp and specified the bolt torque value of 15 N-m. They would provide no other setup information than a torque value.
Meanwhile, I experimented to find a way to successfully set up this seatpost and here is what I learned. This seatpost has a friction-style clamp, so it has to be clean and dry at assembly and you have to get the clamp bolt torque right. If you lube the clamp bolts be extremely careful that no lube finds its way onto the clamping surface. I install the screws dry. You need to use a torque wrench with this seatpost. Not enough torque and the clamp will slip. Too much torque and you will bend the top clamp. Once the two clamp bolts are hand-tight, carefully torque in quarter turn increments alternating left to right side until both bolts are torqued to 15 N-m. On the first ride the clamping surfaces will wear in, so you have to re-torque after riding briefly on a rough surface. Check between rides to maintain the torque since wear, vibration and temperature variations may cause bolt loosening over time.
My 2 cents. I would not buy this product or anything from Oval Concepts again. The finicky seatpost clamp assembly is disappointing, but the slow and highly unsatisfactory customer support is what will keep me from becoming a repeat customer. In my experience the technical people at Oval Concepts appear reluctant to provide assistance to their customers. I purchased the seatpost from www.universalcycles.com because they had the lowest price. Note that Universal Cycles has a policy that they do not take product returns once the packaging is opened.

I purchased this post to get 20mm of setback for my steel hardtail. First off, 20mm is just not feasable as the seat angle changes with the positioning backwards. This means that when your saddle is level it's only using a few mm of the setback ajustment. Go any further and your saddle is looking at the stars bmx style. I found this out lap 2 at a 24 hour race when mine slid back and stipped out leaving me riding wheelies through the singletrack. Don't even waste your time or money on this product, mine is going back for the distributor to deal with...
