Description:The Scape is Orbea’s alloy racing hardtail. Its scandium-enhanced tubeset has been highly manipulated to create a frame that is efficient yet compliant. Strengths:
Its relatively light, about 1390 - 1400g, good color scheme, good design, lifetime warranty.
Weaknesses:
Flexible! It has a lot lateral flexibility and I really dont like that, but vertical flexibility is very low, making the frame very stiff that way.
The toptube has cracked.

Bottom Line:
The toptube has cracked in the joining points near to the seatpost and steerer tube, making a racking noise when pedaling. The frame is still in one piece. It was a recent issue, the frame was perfect for more than 2 years, never crashed, never made big jumps or crazy stuff with it, but for about one week it has got that cracks I dont know how.
Good frame anyway.

Strengths:
Strong. Very light (Approx. 4Lbs frame) Handles very good in single track with a 2.0-2.2" tire and 80mm fork. No need for a lot of travel.
Weaknesses:
The 2005 frame of mine cracked at the lip of where the seat post goes (27.2mm,) but Orbea has a GREAT warranty service and I got a new 2007 frame at NO CHARGE. (31.6mm seat post)

Bottom Line:
As a racer on the Sir Francis Drake high MTB team, I realized that I needed a bike that is great for racing and regular XC riding. In my opinion, the Scape's frame beats Carbon Fiber and full suspension by a long shot. I'm always passing people with multiple types of bike up AND down hill. During a race, I was following a number pros until my water bottles fell out and I ran out of GUs.
Mines weighs approx 24lbs, but I'll lighten it to about 21-22Lbs.

Lightweight and strong. Scandium frame really seems to absorb a lot of road bump.
I think I got a pretty good deal on a used 2006 Orbea Scape build up. Wow, what a difference it makes from my TREK. It's only 9.4kg/20.1lbs...so it's just awesome. I'll never to go a heavier full suspension after this...perhaps if it's the full version Scape. Scandium...can't say enough about it. Superlight while being superstrong. Going on the local XC course is a heavenly new experience. Almost bought a carbon bike, but glad I didn't. All I can say is...find someone who has one and borrow it. And good luck finding one too!

I got this as a Frame only and put LX complete with LX Hydro Disk. and some Cerit Wheels (a DT SWISS thing) that I got on very spekal. with Duke Rock Shocks I was testing some new tyres too Cont Speed King 2.3 (also very impressive)
Bottom Line:
Wow this frame absorbs the hits. Im very impressed with this frame It is an XC race frame that is so light it is scary to think that I belt down a hill and this meager weight holds me from making a mess of my face.
I am absolutely impressed by the zippy turning and the small jagged jarring rocks that just get absorbed. Im told that Sandium has better bump absorbing than carbon... and that is a big call. AND, that felt absolutely true. The Scarpe Frame has a steep head angle so it is very agile while the bike just hummed with anticipation at speed and stayed perfectly on track.
I Own the 06 model which I am told is the same as the 07 model in materials angles and construction. the colour of my bike is Blue and Basque Orange (unlike the model in the pic above)
I went for a ride at the local XC track at Manly Damn. I was really impressed with my new bike it reeks of class and rides with heaps of comfort. This is a very nice frame. When on the Urban attack the frame is still within its element but the tires where unsuitable as they just made a musical hum on th road.
Scanduim is a very expensive frame at the moment. But it is sure to be the material that all Alloy bike will be when they grow up.
I might Add that the TYPE OF RIDER section stumps me ... Im not a weekend warrior cause I fly like a pro... till the bottom of the hill anyway. Im 40 (I have a Wii finess of 25 lol) and i weigh about 190 pounds 95 kg and I'm told i do have skills .. I do not race. I ride at least 5 days of the week and will ride up and down stairs and do wheelies
