Bottom Line:
This is the best and lightest bike I have ever owned. Didn't need suspension forks as the frame is very springy and takes the sting out of the trails. I weigh 18 stone and everything has held up very well so far.
Only problem I have noticed is the XT brake rotors keep rubbing against the pad at one point each time the wheel rotates. Don't know whether the wheels are out of true or whether the rotors have bent out of shape. Tried taking it into a local bike shop and they hadn't ever seen the center rotor hub mounts that were pinned onto the rotors, supplied by On One so couldn't help.
Apart from this minor problem with the brakes, very happy with the bike

On One Mornington Crescent philosophy; you either get Brant's gags or you don't. Exudes 'thing' at cafe stops. Ride me looks. Singlespeed simplicitiy but geared bosses and cables if you wimp out. I bought this bike in the fall just as cross season was cranking up. I rode one 45 minute ride and then it sat in the shed while winter hit us with snow and more snow. My first ride over an hour was the first lap racing at the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo and within 20 minutes I felt like I'd always owned this bike. It is so quick for a big wheeler, I thought my Monkey was nimble but the Inbred blows it away. Mine came with the carbon forks and they were a perfect match for the smooth and tacky conditions in Tucson. It handles like a european cyclocross frame but has the beefiness to let you slam a few rocks on the way to the finish line. Great Job guys!

Strengths:
Nicely balanced frame handles well. Weight is ok for steel. Well designed for easy set-up as SS or geared. I'm slowly warming to a beige (sand?) bike and the Inbred guy sets the right tone for my riding.
Weaknesses:
I question the suppleness of Brants steel back end.
Similar Products Used:
First 29er. I have 2 DMR and one old KHS 26" steel frames that I run variously as SS, 1x8, 1x9 and fully geared.
Bike Setup:
Have run as geared (XT & XTR bits) but now as SS with DMR hubs/Notubes 355 rims & Spec FastTrack front/Kenda Small Block 8 rear. Reba at 100mm.
Bottom Line:
This is my 1st 29er but I'll try to stick to this frame - not 29ers in general.
Once I'd adapted (1 or 2 hrs riding) this turned into such a blast I hardly ride my other bikes on flat(ish) trails. It's a comfortable fit with geometry that turns easily through singletrack with the Reba at 100mm. I'm sure the flex I can feel is thru the wheels not the frame. Have raced one 6 hour on this bike (as a SS) and had no handling or reliability issues at all.
But. I got out of expensive, hyped suspension bikes a couple years ago because the DMR (Swithback - production over!) frames gave me such a supple shock absorbing ride, especially with a hi volume low pressure tubeless set up. The On-One feels quite harsh by comparison - even compared with the 26" DMR running tubes & smaller tyres. So much so that I ran the 6 hour with my (oh no!) Thudbuster seatpost. Don't know why but Dr Intuitive Retro tells me that pencil thin chain/seatstays (like, say, a Niner steel frame) might soften the haemorrhoid hammer. I might buy a Crossmax UST 29er wheelset to run bigger softer tyres - it could help.
So the frame feels quite harsh at times - I've learned NEVER to jump this bike (it makes a kind of banging, jarring landing that says 'don't try that again') and thats why I use it as a flat trail high speed SS and not a technical uphill/downhill geared trailbike. Anyway, somehow the bike feels more together as a SS than geared - I think thats how Brant started & still designs with that in mind. Also, do all 29ers have clearance issues behind the front derailler to the rear tyre or is it short chainstays on the Inbred? You'd have trouble with gears & a high profile tyre.
In spite of all the above I love this frame in it's current build and for how I use it - I ride it more than any other of my bikes - it's like a big grunty V8 that gets up to speed & flys compared with the 26" bikes that I can jump, flick and hurl about (think Subaru WRX).
Finally, I reckon the price of these frames is pretty good for the quality and performance you get - a damn good way into 29 inches. Zedsport were excellent - helpful, prompt and their shipping price for a frame to New Zealand (US$70) should shame most US web retailers who charge $100's.

Stable at speed. Handling is very neutral and responsive. Reasonably priced. Sliding dropouts (though this has changed on the newer frames, I believe). Good tire clearance. Specced for 100mm fork. Lively steel frame.
Weaknesses:
The price you pay for a responsive steel frame is weight. Big wheels are a tad slower getting up to speed, but you quickly learn to compensate. Tabs on fork are funky/stooped (c’mon, put some REAL lawyer tabs on it), and v-brake bosses on fork were a pain to remove.
Similar Products Used:

FSA Orbit headset (superb quality, at a third of the price of CK)
Bottom Line:
Another ear—to—ear grinning satisfied customer. Riding a 26er was always problematic for me--I always had a feeling that I was perched over the bike, and oftentimes balance became an issue, especially in narrow, tight corners and steep descents (I’m 6’3”). After buying two very expensive FS 26ers and finding myself unhappy with the way both handled, I decided to experiment and build up a 29er. I chose the Inbred because it had sliding rear dropouts, and was specced for a 100 mm fork.
I am very impressed with the way the Inbred handles—steering is quick, stable, and neutral. I can pick my lines as needed, and I find myself making far fewer corrections when climbing and descending than before. The steel frame is very supple— I really don’t miss rear suspension at all, especially when climbing. And what a great climber this bike is! Going to a 1 x 9 setup has totally transformed my climbs, and made them more entertaining—I’m pretty much out of the saddle now the entire time, just like I was back in my roadie days. . .
What they say about big wheels is true--they really do add the feel of an inch or so of suspension, roll over small bumps, and make for a far more stable ride
Overall, the Inbred performs exceptionally well. Crisp and stable handling, the suppleness of steel, good out of saddle climber, and a stiff, rigid fork that is more forgiving than it has a right to be. A really great choice for taller riders/clydes (if you fit either category you really owe it to yourself to ride 29). Probably the best thought out frameset on the market in this price range, easily puts to shame the more expensive 29er frame offerings. If you need more frame your only option is to go custom, in my opinion.
With some lighter wheels, bigger tires and a set of Middleburn cranks the bike would be unbeatable. I’ll be selling my 26er now to finance future part upgrades---or an On One Scandal . . . .

Frame design. Low COG giving confidence through the singletrack. Tight rear end for powering out of bombholes. Great mud clearance for UK winter conditions. Nice and light. Dead easy to maintain. Nothing to worry about. 18T seems to be the 'magic' gear for me.

Complete On-One bike but swapped the V's for Magura Julies Hydro disks, and my SDG Belair saddle perched on my longtime Thomson seatpost replaces the already excellent On-One bits. Got a new ACS chain and awaiting a WI freewheel.
Bottom Line:
As a lanky git I chose the Inbred as a cheap way into discovering the benefits of the 29er. I didnt particularly want to go singlespeed, but I knew I could pop gears on as funds permitted. NO NEED.
This bike rocks just as it is. I find myself bombing up climbs that have me wheezing on my other geared bike (Dont ask me how that figures!). Im so impressed Ive ordered a White Industries freewheel. It's staying SS.
But the best bit is the way the 29er frame behaves. Its what I have been looking for since I started riding (without even realising I was looking). The wheels really do roll better over bumps just as the hype describes. Apart from boulder strewn descents I dont notice I have a rigid fork up front.
The paint on the frame is so much nicer than in the pictures on the website. Sort of a pearl white. Thought I would have to change it, but its staying!
Yep, Im chuffed. For £500 (UK pounds) this bike really is a steal. I wish I could report a fault but I can only give it top ratings. If youre over 6" tall, do yourself a favour and give 29ers a go, but be warned, you may not want to return to 26" wheels.

Many steel hardtail gearies and SS rigs at 26" wheel size. This is the first 29er I've owned.
Brant did a nice job on the design and spec of this bike. I ordered the complete bike and am selling the stock bb/crankset and the Avid Vs/levers on eBay because I wanted discs and 180mm crank and 30t front ring, but even still it's a fantastic buy and really nice as spec'd. The Inbred steel rigid fork rides very well, a bit of give but steers very accurately. The Fleegle bar is a fantastic thing, looks funky but rides like it's part of your body. The sliding dropouts make rear wheel removal and reinstallation a breeze when you need to do maintenance or have a flat tire. Easy to set up your rear disc brake too. No real negative compared to EBB. On top of all this, the geometry is excellent, I'd call it neutral, stable, playful.
As a frame only, or as the complete bike for $990, this is in my opinion the best 29er deal available if you want steel. And if you want aluminum, On-One has the Scandal.
Great job, Brant & On-One.

Cheap freewheel and chain. The freewheel was very basic and after two or three rides was already running rough. Not a problem since I needed a different size anyway. Getting the freewheel removed was a real pain. The chain was a BMX chain (1/8 inch) and the chainring and freewheel were 3/32 inch. Bottom Line:
This bike handles like a dream. I bought the 16” SS Inbred 29er complete with On-One rigid fork. This is my first 29er and I was expecting that it would be an improvement but I didn’t expect this. On my first ride, I had bugs in my teeth from constantly grinning. I’ve been riding a rigid Bridgestone converted to singlespeed and the new bike felt like I had one inch suspension. It took the edge off the bumps and even allowed me to stay seated more than usual on a rigid. I love the 29er wheels! This thing can roll over the small rocks and I barely feel them. On larger rocks, my momentum carries me over the rocks with no problem.
The geometry is perfectly balanced and is amazing on singletracks and the steel frame is so smooth. For anyone looking to get a 29er, I am probably the shortest height you can go for the 16” frame. Any shorter and the sloping top tube will be awfully snug when both feet are down. I’m 5’6”.
What made me decide on this bike was the sliding dropout. The dropout moves back and forth to adjust the tension on the chain but once you have it set up, you don’t have to adjust it anymore. The dropout also comes with a keeper bolt to stop the slider from moving forward. Not the best description but you can see it on their website. They also include a spare dropout with derailleur hanger is you want to go geared. Really, it is an all around bike.
I bought from the On-One website and from my order date to the time I had it in my hand was 3 days. Of course, it came from their US warehouse so it was fast.
Did I mention the cool On-One dude on the bike? He is everywhere from the stem, seatpost, saddle and downtube.
