Strengths:
Really long lasting, great optical quality. Grip round the head nicely; hard to shake off.
I've had mine for 6 years. The lenses are still in great condition despite being used thoroughly over the years.
I like the round shape of the lens. I find the frames obstruct your view much less than with the Juliets and these feel more solid than half jackets. Quite striking compared to the designs these days.
Weaknesses:
Oakley name on bridge rubbed off within a month, the "unobtainium" ear rubber pieces slipped off mine. The coating has started to peel of the edges very slightly over the last year but remained good for 5 years.
No hydrophobic coating so rain and spray obstructs view.

Bottom Line:
Great quality shades for comparatively little cost (compared to my other pairs). I've had these for so long, they've been worth the money tenfold. Buy if you can find some on ebay. I'm sure these were discontinued 4 years ago.

Bottom Line:
The right arm broke off after 1 month. Then, they stayed in the case for a few years. At that point, I took them out to look at them and think about sending them to Oakley, and the left arm broke off! What the heck!
And now, 9 years later, I am wondering whether it is worth "fixing" them or just buying a new pair. Or...just moving on with my life because I don't want to deal with more broken arms.

(this review for Half Jackets, this is the nearest thread for them) Anyway, i like the looks, and the fact u can get loads of interchangeable lenses. My optician recomended them for their optical quality and he's won awards so that pretty much says it all. In my local bike shop they had an old pair that they'd actually fired a shotgun cartridge at and the lenses were chipped but still in one piece. Good downwards visibility (they've only got a frame at the top) so u can see whats under your front wheel. Comfy too
Weaknesses:
a touch expensive, but when u consider a decent pair of normal spectacle frames are £100+, well, thats how much glasses cost, plus you get the lenses as well.

Bottom Line:
Well none of the pairs i have have broken, u just have to remember that a pair of glasses is never going to be the strongest thing in the world and take care of them. Maybe its because i wear glasses all the time and know that u cant throw the around and expect them not to break. Keep them in a hard case (not the crappy cloth bag u get with them), and wash the sweat off them after a ride as the salt cant be good for the plastic, and they'll last for ages. I got the half jackets with black lenses and FMJ (silver) frames just to be different, and i really like the look.

This Product Review Is for the Oakley XX but it's under the eye jacket family. What can I say It's Oakley THE BEST OPTICS IN THE WORLD TODAY HANDS DOWN. Frame is very strong and I've never had a problem with an oakley frame AT ALL. The lenses are close to Unbreakable They scratch but don't Break. As always the Style Oakley has been creating style's that other company's have been ripping off for century's now. I usually lose them before breakin them
Weaknesses:
The only Weakness Oakley's have are scratching but every great product has to have one weakness. Even superman had a weakness.

I have used many diffrent company's for optics and let me tell you Oakley is the best hands down any one who tells you different is trying to sell you something no one sells Oakley the sell themselves (Ever see any advertising Of course not and it you do it's in a sport specific mag to show off new styles) I've biked for a long time BMX Road Mt Bike but always will I return to my one true passion, SNOWBOARDING RULES!!!!. When witer comes the bike goes away and out comes the board. When it comes to optics I had thre pairs of Spy goggles )soppose to be the next Oakley) I trashed all Three IN THE SAME SEASON and not in the Halfpipe or the park .......Freeriding! the last set lasted one run in Vermont and they were dead. So after a big run around down at spy I got the distrbutor Who is a friend to send em back and got hooked buck up with Oakleys. In one of my first runs I crashed so bad they were ejected clean of my face and not a scratch. Any one who has ever had a problem call Oakley they will ALWAYS replace or repair them Never had a problem! Go with the orginal go with the best !!!!!!!!! Always FIVES!!!!!

Bike Setup:
I mostly row, in racing shells. I also cross train, and wear them while running and cycling.
Bottom Line:
These glasses are great for walking down the beach, looking good, and sometimes running, but not for rowing. They do not ventilate well, and I am often turning my head during more intense races in order to let wind pass through and clear the lenses of condensed sweat. This is bad because it's importnat not to have to shift around my head. For this reason I never wear them during races; I am thinking of going with M frames, zeros, or wires of some sort, because these look like they will let air pass around them better. I also find that I have to clean them very often, but this is perhaps because they do get covered in sweat a lot, and in rowing your face sweats a lot. It takes a while in order to clean them thoroughly. Overall, not good sunglasses for rowing, but good for everything else.

I have given up on Oakley. I have been a fan of Oakley for years going back to the Frog Skins. The problem is every pair of Oakleys I have owned in the past 3 years have broken. I must have a huge head. 3 pair suffered from the little nipple holding the arms to the frame breaking off and 2 pair have had the frame crack at the bottom part of the lense. Each time I have sent the broken glasses and a check back to Oakley and they have sent new glasses. The last pair I got back from them broke after only 1 week. I sent them back to Oakley with a letter explaining the situation and they sent the broken glasses back to me with a request for 20.00 to replace them. I hate to say that I dont think they are worth the 20. I have switched over to Spy and Dragon.

Bottom Line:
My first pair of Eyejackets lasted only a few months. At first, they seemed durable and withstood minor bumps and drops. Then, on a trip to a secluded area, the frame just snapped above one of the lenses while I was wearing them (just standing around). Since I was in a remote area I couldn't return the glasses right away so I packed them in their case and stowed them in a drawer. A week later I examined the glasses, which hadn't been touched that entire week, and discovered that there were multiple breaks all over the frames, as if the frame material just started spontaneously falling apart.
Oakley kindly replaced that pair. I wore the second pair about 10 times, and pampered them after my earlier experience. They broke also, right above the lens, while in their protective case.
Based on my experience, it seems as though the frame material degenerates over time (or possibly due to exposure to the sun or something else) causing the frames to crumble at stress points. Whatever the case may be, the frames didn't hold up to even the most mild use in my experience.
The money is not a big issue for me. I would never buy another pair of these glasses simply because I don't have the time, patience, or inclination to keep replacing them.
Caveat emptor.

The lenses. Looks, fit, stop air flow into your eyes, easy to clean.
Bought them specifically to ride and they perform. As long as you are moving (even slightly) they stay clear and they fit well under my Switchblade helmet. E-wires offer no wind protection at high speed, Arnettes fog up. Nothing will push the lens into your face, put you can pop it out the other side easily with your finger. Great for cleaning off mud and water, good to change out for clear lens when it begins to get dark. I'm ordering these lenses now. Hope the warranty works, it seems a bit to good to be true. Old ladies wear them, even in England. The price is laughable for bits of plastic. At least most of my Arnettes are metal framed. Three RHCP for value as they are so damned expensive, but you do get the best lens in existence. Five overall as they are THAT good for riding. I still wear my Arnettes for everything else though - they will never die.

Oakleys look great. I own the gunmetal-dipped Eye Jackets and a pair of the awesome chrome Straight Jackets with metalic orange lenses. Oakleys look great and feel great. They don't break the way a lot of these reviews say they do. If you're going to buy a pair of glasses and treat them like crap, you should expect them to break. I've had mine for a while now and they've held up great. The only problem is that everybody and their mom owns a pair of the Eye Jackets. So buy a pair of less-common Oakleys, like the Straight Jackets in superfly color combos. Remember: Chicks dig guys in Oakleys..until another guy walks in right next to you wearing nthe identical glasses. Be original.

Oakley full metal jacket: A lens popped out when I was putting them on, during the first week I had them. It fell out easy enough but was a pain in the butt to put back in. Then a week later they broke at the earpiece pivot. Sent them in under warranty to be fixed. Got back a new pair instead (afterall, they only cost a few bucks to make so it is cheaper than replacing an earpiece). A few weeks later, that pair broke, right in the middle of the earpiece and fell off my face. Never even used them for riding or anything. Other than that, they fog easily, reflect off the inside of the lens, and the second pair I had were twisted. All in all, the worst pieces of crap I ever wasted ~$90 on.
My friends got some from a vendor selling them for $10. I thought they were knockoffs, but they weren't. For $10 maybe they are worth it as disposable eye jewelry.

With the smiths, I can ride at dusk or in the woods with the yellow or orange lenses, and actually see better than without the glasses, but I don't like the design of the Smiths. These are way too radically designed to be worn off of the bike, so I usually wear my Oakleys more, because they look better. If only Oakley came out with interchangeable lenses, or even if they offered a larger array of lenses and glasses combinations. I give the Oaks a Three, because it is about average: I don't think that Oadley is really trying that hard.

I tried all sorts before getting these, but you do get what you pay for when buying O's. The dont distort your view, dont bounce about on your head over the rough stuff, and are so light you quickly forget that your wearing them. Like the others say, they do tend to mist up when you slow down your pace but I have never had the whole lens mist up . . you can always see through. Top sunnies on and off the bike. Do tend to steam up a bit on long slow climbs but other then that they're excellent. I've never broken mine like everyone seems to, but a mate of mine did. However he managed to get a full new frame, after only breaking the arm, for £12 (about) $20. No fakes, scam? Maybe...

Ive found that when these glasses are new they put significant stress on the area just behind the ear. To be brief, they fit extremelly tight. Also ventilation is somewhat poor, in cold conditions they tend to steam up fairly easy. The glasses block all sunlight very well, do not slip and look very rad! Clear models should be more available

I used to work at a Sunglass Hut and I have extensive knowledge of eyeware. Oakley makes a fair sunglass. I actually own a pair that I won in a contest from when I worked at the Sunglass Hut. They are very light-weight, and the lenses can take a serious beating, but the lenses are some of the most easily scratched ones out there. I think overall that they are overpirced and that I would rather spend the money on some Revo icons or some Rayban Predators.3 stars - barely

I really like the looks of these glasses. I had the electric mustard full metal jacket but they were stolen only after having them for about 5 months. I broke the hinge but sent them away to oakley. They took about 2 months to get them back because I sent them to Vancouver but the factory there closed down so they had to send my glasses to montreal. But I got my glasses back fixed and good as new. 5 stars because of their looks but 3 because of their high price. So 4 stars overall

People! People! I can't believe nobody mentioned the Oakley Trenchcoats. I own these along with a pair of Oakley Straight Jackets (I like the bigger lens look). Trenchcoats look just like eye jackets except they're bigger hence the lens is bigger and covers more of your eye, for more protection. And they stick to your face under ANY!! condition. I've wiped out a few times and they never budged. OAKLEYS ROCK!! If you can afford them get them.

These are excellent shades for riding. They stay on your face great, dont fog up, and have a great warranty if you break them up. The only real drag was that the will scratch quite easily if riding through grown-in singletrack, or overganging limbs etc. They are not too overpriced, and the optics are great for nearly every lighting condition.

So. Zoom-Boy broke his TWICE by simply taking them off....hmmm...Well, I must say, my first pair of Eyejackets were MUCH more durable than that- Picture the scenario: Last winter I stopped when driving from Virginia to NY I stopped at a rest stop in Maryland to check/add some anti freeze/twater to my radiator as it had a leak at the time. I placed my Moss Eyejackets on top of the battery, did my thing, and SLAMMED the hood closed (it has to be slammed somewhat hard). At the same moment, I also heard one of the most painful sounds I've ever heard in my life- CRUNCH!! I instantly realized the distress that my preliminary stages of Alzheimers disease has caused, and got into my truck for a minute to take a few deep breaths and count to 900 or so. What would I do now? This was the only pair of shades I had with me, with 5 more hours of driving with blinding sunshine ahead of me. Do I go in the store now and buy a cheesy pair of Blue-blocker GEEK glasses just to get me home? So I open the hood, expecting to see something comparable to Princess Di's mercedes on that fatal night of Aug 1997 (God rest her soul), and what do I find? FOUR separate pieces of my Eyejackets- 2 separate lenses, 1 right arm, 1 left arm/front rims(?) strewn about the engine compartment. Bottom line? Nothing was broken or scratched at ALL, and I put the glasses back together, cleaned them, and said a big thank-you to somebody out there!!Oh- and then I dove off a boat on the 4th of July this year while they were on top of my head- they're now 200ft below the suface of the Hudson River. Too bad they don't float..........no real biggy, though- found a used pair (same ones) within 2 days at MTBR for $40 (paid $95 for the original pair at LBS). Currently have 6 pair of Oaks which include 3 Eyejackets- I think I'm an Oakley junkie.

For the second time in less than a year I have broken my eyejackets where the arm meets the rubber. I was simply taking them off and SNAP!. The first time this happened Oakley had me send them my glasses and they replaced the frames for free but this time I had to really be persistant about them covering the second breakage. They wanted to charge me a $15 fee to replace frames they themselves replaced less than a year ago. How's that for standing behind your product? The sad thing is that I spent a lot of money for some cool looking glasses that can't stand up to normal use. I don't wear these when I ride, they were my everyday sunglasses. I also own some M-Frames that I wear as my riding glasses and they seem to be close to breaking also even though I haven't abused them. When I get my eyejackets back I'm going to put them in their case and lock them in my dresser drawer. I don't want to risk breaking these expensive high performance sunglasses again. I will never buy another Oakley product again.

Remember when buying a pair of glasses that oakleys may look good but they suck on hazey days because yoou can't put in different lenses for different light. Then I bought a pair of Smith Slider Bazooka's I love them.[go with Smiths they rule]

Yeah, Oakleys are expensive, and yeah they're prone to scratches but I absolutely LOVE my prescription (RX) Oakley Full Metal Jackets! No other company that I know of offers RX lenses with this kind of wrap-around protection. And these aren't little RX lenses set within the standard lens either. I'm talkin' full, one piece, iridium coated RX lenses. I wear 'em biking, skiing, golfing, everything. Yup, they look a little... well, let me just say that my girlfriend calls them my a-hole glasses. But if the shoe or glasses fit...The bonus is that if you have vision insurance and need RX Oakleys, you might be covered. My insurance company paid for 80% of the cost ($300, not any more than eyeglasses with designer frames)! If you're tired of having your contacts dry out on you in the middle of a hairy descent, go look into a pair of these bad boys. You'll be glad you did.

The Oakley Eyejackets are pretty good glasses. I just bought a pair a while back and I haven't really had any problems with them. My only complaints are that the frames are a little weak and so is the area where the rubber grip is. Also, they fog up so fast! It's like I can't even go out and do anything athletic without having my glasses fog up on me. So I have to clean them about every 5 to 10 minutes. Plus, the glasses are so fragil that I think they spend more time in the case than they do on my face. I'm just so afraid that I'm going to break them. I think that Oakley should improve on making a stronger product because people pay big $$$$$ for these glasses, so why not give them what they pay for????? But other than that, I think that Oakley is a fairly good product and the glasses make for good looks.

I was riding with Smith Moab HP's and they broke. I have not sent them back yet and needed some glasses to race over the weekend. I bought a pair of Eyejackets with a very light orange lens. They were great in changing light conditions. They also protect from the mud flying up from the tires much better than the HP's. This morning I did a road ride and the wind protection was better than any glass I have ever worn. This is my first pair of Oakleys because I was doing a pseudo boycott due to the overabundance of Thermo Nuclear Protection stickers on IROCs and pick ups next to the No Fear and Bad Boy Club stickers( I heard this is why Burton Snowboards stopped making those long stickers ). Anyway I was pleasantly surprised.

Because it was so windy the fuse didn't last long and it went of in my brothers hand. It took off the thumb and the tips of two other finger. And he has powder burns all over his face and body. He has a blown ear drum and an injured other. But his he got lucky because he was wearing his oakely sunglasses. They held up to a quarter stick of dynamit. They saved his eye sight. With out those high quality par of sunglasses he would have lost his eye sight. And me and my family are thankful to the company for creating suck a great and tough par of sunglasses and everyone in the family wants to get a par beacuse of the quality. I would like to get in touch with someone from the company because I would like to ask a couple of questions too. THANK YOU OAKELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For the most part they have been awsome. One quality problem...both arms snapped, at the same time, for no apparent reason, and well after the warranty had expired. But for US$15 (+shipping) Oakley replaced them. And they were very nice about it to boot. I have the basic black model so no paint chipping. A little fogging but otherwise solid glasses for any activity. So comfy I forget I have them on. And after over 2 years with me (abusive and impatient) no scratches on the lenses. I'm thinking of the Bazooka sliders, but the mirrors on the Oaks are great for people watching.
