Date Reviewed: March 8, 2009
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Strength and durability
Weaknesses:Brakes and weight
Bottom Line:I've used this bike for over 2 years now both for commuting and blasting trails and single tracks on the wekends.
Its so heavy and the brakes are so bad I've considered installing V brakes several times.
On the positive side I've never broken anything despite many stacks and it was over 2 years for the first puncture despite riding it almost everyday.
But bottom line is its terrible. Get something lighter and with decent brakes.

Submitted by Steve Smith a Cross Country Rider from Sackville, NS, Canada
Date Reviewed: May 22, 2005
Favorite Trail:Trails around Sackville, NS
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Sportswheels
Strengths:Solid frame that is build for agressive XC or light trail riding. Shock, brakes, shifters, and derailleurs about market standard for the price range.
Weaknesses:Bottom bracket below par as the bolts become loose after a few rides (fixed using removable "blue" loctite after removing any grease around crank bolt threads).
Rims are impossible to keep true -very poorly made (see Bottom Line comments below).
Similar Products Used:Giant Rincon
Bike Setup:All stock with the exception of the wheels -replaced with Shimano XT Disc/Mavic M223 Wheelset
Bottom Line:The stock wheels will not stay true! After a few XC rides, I noticed the wheels were starting to wobble. I took the bike to a friend who works in a bike shop to re-true the wheels (The original LBS-Sportswheels was useless and wanted me to pay $$ for a brand new bike I just bought from them!). After he trued the wheels, he told me these where the worst wheels he had ever seen. He had used a tensiomter while truing the wheels and could not true the wheels while having moderately close tensions between the spokes -indicating very crappy wheels or wheels that were severly damaged from abuse. Since he and I know they wern't abused, he suggested I call Norco to see if they would warrenty the wheels. To make a long story short, Norco told me they make their own rims and cannot warrenty them as they don't know if the rims were abused. Norco also pointed out not to call them as they only deal with Bike Shops and stated that the only way for them to "review" these wheels to see if they would be covered under warrenty was to go through a Bike Shop that sold Norco. Rather than go through all this hassle (probably a Norco customer service strategy :-( ) I bought a Shimano XT Disc/Mavic M223 Wheelset that I have had no issues with. This is the last Norco product that I buy.

Note: My cousin and I bought both bought Wolverines and he had the exact same wheel problems I did.

Bottom Line:Bottom Line, this is a $500 *cdn bike. You can't expect a $500 bike to be able to handle a 7-10 ft drop. Its perfect for trails, handles great, looks very sharp. If you are a beginner, or you are just looking for a tough off road bike. This is a GREAT bike. Frame is top notch, and is used on other more expensive bikes. If you find your breaking stuff on the bike, dont trade it in. Just buy some better accessories for this frame. Very good bang for your buck

Date Reviewed: August 12, 2004
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $478.00
Weaknesses:This is and addition to my previous review. I promissed to add some stuff if i find any problems.
-The suntour xc 60 is probably the worst fork iv ever seen in my life. Its heavy its nosy and the rebound is just terrible. I you r serious about riding consider upgrading. I am going for the marzocchi mx comp or maybe a dj 3 im not sure yet, and now that new forks are comming out u can get a good deal on 2003 and 2004 models.
-Another thing iv noticed is that the handlebars well a little too short ( but thats a personal prefference) I will uprgrade to Easton EA 50 with 1.5" rise.
-Another thing that everyone seems to have poblems with r the rims. for me its only the back rim so far. Id consider uprgarding to some doulbe wall rims and the spokes r also a lill weak. Personally im upgrading to the sun rhyno lite xl and ill try to build it myself wo wish me luck.
-and another lill thing is that the rubber housing ont he rear brake keeps rubbing against the wheel, its no problem but sometimes a lil annoying.
Bottom Line:dont let those things dicourage u, this is a great bike for the price and i am happy i bouth it. I like to ride evry day so thats why id like to get better parts but if you r just a beginner and ride once or twice a week it should be great for you. Norco rocks- go get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

The rear der alivio is ok too and the front disk brake is performs well. I might upgrade to the rear disk in the future. The rear shimano hub is good and its ready for my new disk brakes. Oh ya u cant forget those huge tires, just love em.
Weaknesses:The fork is crap, 75 mm whats wrong with them. Im waiting till winter or somethin when new 2005 forks come out so i can get the 04 marzocchi dirt jumper 2 or 3 on clearance :). Those are very nice. The handle bar on this bike also feels a little short and the seat is a pain in the ass. Oh and the bike is a lil heavy.
Similar Products Used:Before i got the wolverine I had a specialized hardrock sport for about two weeks. I have to say that the hardrock is a better bike when your riding it. Its very smooth, the fork is a lil better but just a lil, it just feels better than the wolverine but when you look at the parts the Norco wolverine is better for the price. When i was buying both bikes were about the same price. The choice is up to u, both bikes are great and sometimes i think i sholdav kept the specialized but i cant say that the wolverine is worse.
Bike Setup:standard
Bottom Line:The bike is very good - it looks great and it rides great. The componets are not the best but u wont find anything better for the price u can only find somethin worse. So far i havent had any problems with the bike but if i do ill make sure i add it to the reviews. I dont know what to say ... just go buy it.

Make sure you also have a look at the 2004 specialized hardrock sport.

oh and the price is in can dollars

Strengths:solid frame, front disk brake, good shifters, pretty good shox for easy riding great tires for downhill.
Weaknesses:back delrailer, front shox should probably be changed at some point, unlike everyone else i have not had a problem with the back rim. probably because i haven't been too tough on the bike yet.
Similar Products Used:norco katmandu
Bottom Line:this is a great bike for begging riders. it is great for the low price. it is very solid so you won't have too worry too much.great for downhill and hard trails.

Strengths:frame is awesome, hayes disc brake is really good. I like the tires also, and the saddle. The Alivio derailleur is also decent
Weaknesses:Rims: they warp easily, and possibly forks. The cranks also come loose frequently.
Similar Products Used:Norco bigfoot, kona scrap
Bike Setup:stock except for axiom double jump pedals, and a mavic ex 721 rim soon to be bought
Bottom Line:I have had this bike since the beginning of 2004, and i like it a lot. I ride mainly urban, and freeride. The bike has held up quite well, except for the back rim, which is extremely warped. I often hit 3-4 footers on this bike, and no damage has been done. I strongly recommend this bike for the rider who like to freeride, but enjoys trail riding here and there

Strengths:disc brake, frame quality, riser bars, alivio deraliuer, kenda tires, shorty stem, light, nice drivetrain
Weaknesses:rims! and spokes, i have dirt jumped with this bike and have replaced two rims! i couldnt even fix them with a spoke tightener. a lil to lite to dj, too much hang, not enough momentum
Similar Products Used:hyper impact
Bike Setup:stock 04 wolverine
Bottom Line:overall an ok bike, not ideal for dj, but a great xc bike, not too much travel, but thats ok, a great deal for a good bike. buy it if you like an all-around bike and are not 100 pounds. dont get it if you want a hardtail downhill bike

Price Paid: $780.00
Purchased At:Freeride Mountain Sprots
Strengths:Awsome hardcore fatty tires. good stem. Frame seems to be really sturdy and solid. Excellent Hayes Disc Brakes.
Weaknesses:Kinda heavy. Front fork isn't that great(only 75mm travel)
Similar Products Used:giant Yukon
Bike Setup:Bike was stock except for I added a Hayes disc break to the rear wheel upon purchasing the bike.
Bottom Line:With the extra break on the rear wheel the bike is more comparable to its bigger brother, the Bigfoot. Even though that Sr Suntour fork isn't that great it seems to be holding up nicely so far. Greak frame on this bike... with better components you could easily turn this bike into a $2,000 machine but the $780.00 CAD was a good price for such a burly ride. Overall the bike is holding up really well, it rides sweet and the frame can handle some pretty rough terrain. Excellent bike for the money.
