Price Paid: $500.00
Strengths:real fun.. cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!
Weaknesses:disk brakes heat up easily, but not too bad
Bottom Line:good bike for a good price, upgrade the grips because they will brake. upgrade the seat, too cushy. preforms as well as anyother hard tail mountain bike under 800$ great value.
Good buy for a mountain biker not wanting to spend alot of money, good intraductory bike

Strengths:-Stiff frame, nice design and color
-Good brakes, excellent braking power
-Rims ok but a little heavy
-Charming aesthetic
Weaknesses:-Tires
-7 speed gear, hate it but it's a cheap machine so it's ok
-components too much heavy!
Similar Products Used:Only customs :P

Date Reviewed: June 14, 2009
Favorite Trail:Road
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:first cycle works
Strengths:Frame : light weight and VERY strong. I am 300 lbs and 6'3 i ride to work every day and have been in 2 biking accidents one involving a car. and the frame has held strong.
Handlebars: good height and riding position again I'm 6'3 and have a 20' bike and it is very comfortable to ride every day and night.
Brakes: Amazing! I love to FLY downhill and at a moments notice the brakes respond and can stop you fast, some times too fast.
Tires : Good. but not the best out there, I have left the front tire and upgraded the rear to a 65 psi tire for street use. much better but loss of grip is VERY noticeable. Front tire is just fine.
Gears : Meh. So far they have done an OK job but the sprockets have actually Lost some teeth and the shifting is very tricky I have actually lost some gears from time to time from the derailer getting too close to the rear spokes( pos. crash related) but it gets the job done. And Plenty of gears to chose from.
Weaknesses:RIMS : Upgrading soon. the original double wall rims are STRONG but weight is a factor and @ 300 + they will bend and lose true quickly. but for regular riders they should be ok.
Grips: SUCK!. Get new ones ASAP!
Seat: SUCKS !. Again get a new one ASAP.
peddles: Cheep. But they work. use $ to get other stuff first.

Shocks : Cant say. they worked good for the month i had them but they got totaled in crash with car.
Similar Products Used:other bikes priced might be similar.
But i have tried the Canadian tire and Walmart bikes in the price range they don't stack up even close.
Bike Setup:Frame: stock 6061 aluminum.
Shocks: ROCK SHOX dart 1
Tires; Front Stock. Rear KENDA K-rad 65psi. Street tire.
Seat: Serfas E-Gel
Gears: Stock (upgrade Soon)
Grips: Comofo 3 Gel grips. AWESOME.
Brakes: Stock
Rims: Stock (upgrade) ?
Other : X-TRA DRY mud guard.
Bottom Line:This is AN AWESOME bike!!. As in most products " you get what you pay for." If you can afford a $1,000 bike go ahead and get it but for the regular rider that needs a good bike for work and back. (And the occasional romp off road. This is it! Again I'm 300 + lbs and 6'3 I ride to work with an extra 30 lbs on me and this bike has held up AMAZINGLY!!! i have honestly gone through other bikes in a week! and this is my second season on this bike.
Norco is a good brand and no mater what you plan to do with it you can always slowly upgrade it piece by piece. if something is not good enough, upgrade it. I got my bike for $500(CAD) I think. and 250$ to fix/upgrade after a crash. i'm still well under $ 1000 on my bike and i have easily got a bike that is worth every dollar.

GOOD BIKE GET IT>!

Submitted by Kyrillos a Weekend Warrior from Toronto, ON, Canada
Date Reviewed: September 25, 2008
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $389.00
Purchased At:The Cycle Shoppe
Strengths:Excellent maneuverability, great fork and a lovely frame shape. Breaks have ample power and are very smooth. Long pedal cranks provide lots of power. Rather lightweight for a bike with disc brakes. Low rolling resistance tyres, yet grippy enough on trail uphills.
Weaknesses:Slow shifting mechanism. Another gear wouldn't hurt (it comes stock with only a 7-speed Shimano hub).
Similar Products Used:'02 Norco Katmandu
Bike Setup:Stock w/ steel pedals.
Bottom Line:Great beginner cross-country inspired bike. Even though the fork is only 75mm travel, it's more than enough for the bike's intended use (which is mentioned on one of the shock towers: "Leisure Cross Country ONLY"). So if you're looking to catch some big air or hit the trails really hard, this is not a bike for you. I use it for some spirited cross-country biking and the thing I love most about it is how maneuverable it is! Got it on sale for $399CAD down from $499CAD because it's an '08. IMHO excellent value for the price.

Favorite Trail:Central Park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $220.00
Purchased At:used, off Craigslist
Strengths:I'm 5'4" and this bike has a fairly upright riding position, which I find preferable to being hunched over.
Weaknesses:It's a bit heavier than I care for, but that doesn't slow me down once I'm riding.
Bottom Line:I bought a 2006 17" scrambler via Craigslist. For its intended use (city/light trail) this bike is great --- the ride is smooth, the front shocks take out the small-to-medium bumps, the gears give you lots of options for dealing with hills or going full-speed, the tires are smooth enough to not slow you down on pavement yet grippy enough for everything up to forest service access roads, and the brakes stop you good and quick.

Price Paid: $449.00
Purchased At:TNT Bicycle
Strengths:None yet, haven't had a chance to use it yet!
Weaknesses:Seat and pedals.
Similar Products Used:Raleigh and Schwinn
Bike Setup:Had tires changed to 26x1.75 Nokian's at the shop. Glad I did after reading your reviews and hope these are better than the ones that came with the bike.
Bottom Line:At Norco's website they mention the Scrambler's usage of light/trail city (5 stars) and moderate/trail city (2 stars). This bike seems to suit me as I won't be doing anything extreme, mostly road going.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $580.00
Purchased At:Bow Cycle
Strengths:Fork, light good frame, reliable tires(their temporry)
Weaknesses:-the petals need to be replaced with the steel
-seat could be better
-handlebar
-grips wear fast
Similar Products Used:Norco Katmandu, Bushpiolit, Bigfoot, kompressor
Bike Setup:Shore freeride seat, specialized enduro grips, crome wellgo petals, Marzochi dirt jumper 160 mm trave fork
Kenda Nevegal tires, Del noche handlebar, Suntour rims, mortar seatpost...... basicly pimped except the frame and yea...
Bottom Line:A good beginner bike. in total, i spent around 2000 dollars pimpin' this thing and now it rides better than anything out there and i';m not kiddin'. Just try to make some improvements on it like i did and not mine is better than a: norco rampage, Manik, bigfoot, kompressor, Kona Scrap, shred, specialized rockhopper comp disc..... you probably get the pioint. if you don't wanna spend alot on pimpin an 'ok' bike, than i sudjest a SPECIALIZED P.2

Purchased At:bikeland
Strengths:descent 6061 aluminum frame and hays mx2 and mx4 discs.
Weaknesses:everything that i busted (spokes, rims, fork, derailer is snaped in half, pedals are a joke, and the rotars wear down realy quik).
Similar Products Used:sport check, walmart, and canadian tire bikes
Bike Setup:2006 marzocchi dirt jam pro fork (fits the fram well), real peddals lol, alyvio derailer (mutch better than tourney yet still very inexpensive), all the rest was stalk.
Bottom Line:i only baught the bike because i was so overwelmed by the fact that norco sold a new bike for this cheap. however it is not a very good bike for its value. through out the winter i put a bit of mony into the bike just to get it bake in running condition for my dad to use as a light xc bike. if you want to get your moneys worth buy a used bike from pinkbike.com i just baught a costom built freeride/dh bike with a value of over 2000 new. i baught it used for 450 and its in near perfect condition. taking my addvice will save you time and money.

Strengths:Frame, pedals, and the front suspension.
Weaknesses:Rim and spokes. Also my feet already slipped on the pedals when it wasnt even wet.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Factory
Bottom Line:I havent used the bike much but I like the lightness and the grippy handles. It is a bike for the average joe that likes to just go for a stroll. But if your a hard core biker that bikes almost every day I would suggest somthing worth a little more. I know I like mine but if I biked all the time I would go for something a little better.

Strengths:Definintely the frame
Weaknesses:Rims
Similar Products Used:Rode Raleigh, Giant, other Norco's
Bike Setup:22" frame, replaced wheels, crankwheels, put on last year's mechanical disc up front.
Bottom Line:I weigh 221. I am 61/2 feet tall. I had put over a thousand kliks on before changing worn, bendable, low-end parts. For 420 bucks, this is a sturdy, upgradeable frame: -- having spent @ 700.00 on original bike AND upgrades, I now have a tough hardtail that I have raced and commuted upon for two seasons and really couldn't be happier with my decision. I couldn't find a "finished" bike for the money I've spent.

Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Sportwheels
Strengths:Solid frame. Best derailleurs in price bracket. Comfortable saddle.
Weaknesses:Rims.
Similar Products Used:Haro V1, Specialized hardrock.
Bike Setup:factory
Bottom Line:For less than $400 CAD, there was little else out there with components as good. Frame is real solid. At 6'3" 245lbs, the 22" frame didn't wooze to and fro like others i tried. That leads me to the rims...pits ... constantly bent. Definitely not a pro quality bike, but price is about the same as the tax of a high end bike. Overall, Great value, but rims need to be upgraded.
Pros and competition guys stay away ... weekend fitness gurus lookin for some mud and trail without drops and jumps, its a great value.
