As my first decent bike I am 100% satisfied with its performance and its versatility. However, pedaling this bike requires hydraulic pumps for legs; it will take some getting use to. Also, I had to upgrade my bike rack as the Manik didn't fit my old one - might want to keep that in mind. Watch Norco's website for deals (which lead me to purchase this bike).

I'm 6'3" with long arms, I don't feel cramped even with the seat lowered. Yes, stand over height isn't great but works for me since I'm a weekend warrior and always will be. | | Weaknesses: | Not a big deal but.... notch the top of the seat tube in front not the back so less debris/finds, work their way in. | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi DJ 3, Azonic Outlaw wheels, FSA cranks, MRP guide, Sram X9 derailleur/ shifter, Raceface seat post, King headset, Hayes nine brakes and Maxxis Holyroller 2.4 rubber. | | Bottom Line: | I don't think Norco intended this frame to be used as I do but I've been happy with it none the less. In the future I would like to go to a skate park/urban free ride specific single speed. Riding position is very comfortable for all types of riding. | | Weaknesses: | So far only the brakes (Hayes Stroker Ryde), stopping power is great but durability may be an issue, I already had to have one of the lever units repaired from a very minor fall. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | Marz 55r, Hayes Stroke Ryde,Truvativ Hussefelt Cranks,Sram x-5 & x-7 Drivetrain | | Bottom Line: | After a number of years without riding my bike, I decided to get back into the sport. I didn't want to launch right into a FS bike so I did allot of research into different hard-tails. I was looking for something that would be good for climbing as well as the descent with a decent amount of travel.Coming from a light XC bike I was worried that the Manik was going to be brutal for climbing but I have been impressed with this bike in all conditions, even though it is much heavier than I am used to. So far the bike has been great, has handled all the jumps or drops I have thrown at it with ease and I always feel in control and comfortable when I ride it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Cranks. | | Weaknesses: | Grips/Pedals/FrontDR | | Similar Products Used: | no other hardtail this heavy or with 6" fork | | Bike Setup: | axiom double jump pedals | | Bottom Line: | I was searching for a new bike because most of my riding friends had upgraded to new rides over the last year. Almost all of them bought full suspension 6" travel bikes. Although I do enjoy riding all types of trails from XC to DH to 4X, the sad fact is that I live in a city and 5 nights a week I ride in urban/skatepark settings. I don't need a garage full of bikes so with some great advice from the staff @ the local shop I picked a shore hardtail in my price range. I am happy with the bike so far. Geometry is great and it feels very stable on any decline, yet totaly usable on urban rides. The fork has exceeded my expectations, (after all of the reviews of the drop off 4)but it could be upgraded if I need to (second spring etc). Brakes are Fu@#!ng sweet. In short, don't buy this bike if your looking to win some xc races(yes it is heavy) But if you ride everthing from concrete staircases to skateparks to trails, this bike is sweet. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Componentry rivals a lot of much more expensive bikes. | | Weaknesses: | Front fork (2005 Drop Offs). Bike is too hard to manage with this fork. I found that the brake calipers come loose. The Kenda 2.5 might be a little too much tire. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Hoss, Norco Rival | | Bike Setup: | I pulled off the Drop Offs and put on a set of '03 (Brand New) Dirt Jumpers, wow what a difference. Competitively priced | | Weaknesses: | Brakes make little noise, nothing to complain about though. The grips are also a bit cheesy from the factory. | | Similar Products Used: | Norco Bigfoot, Sasquatch | | Bike Setup: | Stock, soon to get chain tensioner, its seems to be recommended, as well as new grips. | | Bottom Line: | Reading all the reviews in here, its seems the common weakness' of this bike are, noisy brakes, sad grips, weak seat post and a chain that derailes easily.
Ive been on this manik for a week now and have done some moderate terrain, for the money, $1175 canadian, you couldnt get any better, GREAT bike all around, meant for bigger guys like myself. I am going to purchase a chain tensioner just from what ive read of complaints and new grips too. If the seat post goes then ill just buy a stonger one.
I can live with the brake noise (big-deal) Goodluck finding one of these, apparently i bought the last large sized 2005 manik that Norco had! Ive waited 6 months for this bike!

It feels steady and solid underneath, especially on rocky/unstable terrain. fork is butter and it looks hot | | Weaknesses: | Smaller back wheel takes some getting used to - not great for steeper climbs. a tad heavy for climbing
the rear wheel bumps the chain in super low gear, often throwing it off | | Bike Setup: | Stock solid | | Bottom Line: | Great price (US$ quoted above - A$1350) as it was ex demo and new stock coming soon.
It chews up trails, jumps, whatever you throw at it - but not as great on the street.
Had some probs with chain skipping etc, and lost lots of skin due to the pegs in the peddles - but I'm used to it now.
Overall a great bike because of quality parts, strength, reliability etc - all ads up to confidence when hucking.

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | United Cycle | | Strengths: | Excellant all around, great breaks, travel and strong components. Sun ringle rims are great, extremely strong and kenda Tomac Signature tires great. Hayes 8" Brakes kill, Tough burly frame. This bike has all top of the line parts for a great price | | Weaknesses: | 2.35" front tire instead of 2.5" like rear, fork is slightly heavy, back brake possibly to big for frame. Back tire/wheel smaller than front a hate it or love thing. I love it. Needs a powder coat frame and a name brand headset. Also it is a tough bike to find, I personally waited 3 months to find a large. front fork is essentially a dual crown marzocchi Dirt Jumper I,II, or III, you may appreciate this but i personally will eventually trade to a bigger fork with more travel.(What's the point of a dual crown with the same travel as most singles?) | | Similar Products Used: | Devinci Hucker, Sasquatch, Rampage, Norco 125 DJ | | Bike Setup: | Large stocker for now, hoping to upgrade some things. Mabye a Manitou sherman slider Plus, Chris king headset, tubless tires and wheels (deemax) and saint cranks. | | Bottom Line: | A great bike, very very strong, as a 200lb+ tall rider it has not broken and can take anything you throw at it. Some of the setup is a personal preference thing. you have to like a dual crown and the smaller rear wheel on a hardtail to truly appretciate this bike. I personally would not take anything other than a manik or torrent to the shore from the norco Hardass line. All top of the line components this bike is great for FR, UA, DJ, DS,and even DH to some extent. You may find that some things you would like to change, but after all no bike is perfect anyway. You won't be dissapointed with this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | russ hays | | Strengths: | everything about the bike is strong, all the parts, you will have a hard time breaking it if your not an idiot. its very fast and carves single track like a dream. flows very nice. balanced GREAT for catwalks and manuals. | | Weaknesses: | have not found any yet. It is hard to handle at high speeds ON VERY LOOSE SURFACES IN TIGHT CORNERS, but thats goin REAL fast. haha. | | Similar Products Used: | hard to say, in my opinion i have never rode a bike i like, or feel better on. | | Bike Setup: | stock. hayes HFX-9, drop off triples, sun singles. the usual | | Bottom Line: | tough bike, i love it, and i wont regret picking this bike over any other bike. best bike you can get for the price, BY FAR!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1300.00 | | Purchased At: | Bungay's Bicycle Shop | | Strengths: | Great bike. Kills on trails. Great strong parts. | | Weaknesses: | Not a great dirt jumping bike. Has too much travel for dirt jumping. (6 inch dual crown) | | Similar Products Used: | Junior T | | Bike Setup: | Obviously a Norco Manik | | Bottom Line: | Great all around bike. If you are a dirt jumper at heart then I wouldn't suggest this bike to you, although you can make due. This is more of a beefy, hucking bike. Works exceptionally well for the downhill, and considering its weight it's an amazing shore bike.
The only thing I don't like about this bike is that it comes with soft compound tires. They slow you down on the hard surfaces (assphalt, concrete).
Amazing bike, great for the price. I would suggest this bike to anyone who is looking for an all around bike that can take a very hard beating. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
