Strengths:strong, can climb well in the 6" travel mode with the fork crowns down. Can stay stable on the corners and eats up steep, rough descents in the 7" mode. So far good on drops, (I've done up to around 10+ feet) all trails and even dirt jumps!
It's been running 5 years with no new parts or serious servicing (until I bought it). That shows serious toughness!
shimano saint as stock.
Weaknesses:the shock bushings and linkage bearings have worn a lot (although it has seen 5 years of use) and need replacing. This is a £60 job although only necessary if you corner very aggressively or hate shaky, noisy, bendy linkage.
the stock wheels aren't the best and the stock brakes aren't either. I've upgraded to hope M4's and should be getting some Deemaxs to replace the axiom hubs/alexrims currently on the bike.
The SRAM gripshift - I guess its a personal prefrence. I replaced this with XT shifters.
Bike Setup:2004 shore vps frame, marzocchi super T pro's with direct mount, Hope M4s, the stock wheels, other good stock parts such as shimano saint, truvativ holzfeller. As mentioned above I put some XT shifters on to replace the SRAM gripshift.
Bottom Line:the perfect all day bike for an adrenalin junkie who likes an uphill challenge. It can climb with the rest if you put in a bit of muscle but will really show what it can do on downhill and north shore style trails. Great fun at freeride parks and not too clumsy too pull tricks on. Unfortunatly, if you want one it's going to be second hand and will probably require some work to get it set up right (I'm still not quite there!)

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $450.00
Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Strong welds and excellent overall geometry. Bike feels very stable under your feet and it climbs rather well.
Weaknesses:Weight; but climbs well which I believe has to do with the geometry of the bike. Because it doesn't have a traditional top tube it doesn't fit easily into some repair stands. Would have been nice if it had ISCG
Similar Products Used:Specialized Enduro
Bike Setup:Large frame, Atom lab wheels, Truvativ cranks (two chain rings), e.Thirten bash gauard, MRP LRP (but also have run it with the MRP System 1), Hayes "Nine" (203mm) front and rear, Manitou Stance Kingpin fork (though I also have run it with the Marzocchi Z1 Freeride Bomber), Kenda 2.6 tires (also have Kenda 2.35 for general riding).
Bottom Line:I love this frame! I was fortunate to find a seller on eBay who was upgrading and just wanted it out of his garage. $450 is what the rear Fox Shock would have cost me! I'm experimenting with some various front forks. I orginally was running it with the Marzocchi which was a perfect combo for an all-mountain bike that could do some free riding and even some downhill. As of this writing, I'm running my older 2005 Manitou Stance Kingpin which does make it a bit nose heavy. Overall I was very suprised at how well it climbs! I think this has to do with the over all geometry of the frame. It's also very nimble and though it weighs more than your average XC bike, I have taken it on such rides and did rather well. I'm still learning this frame but with each ride I get more confident with it to where it will be like my Specialized frame where "it just feels natural" and I don't have to "think" about it.

Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $2200.00
Strengths:This review is for the 2005 model: The frame is extremely well built, and it comes with excellent components like the Syncros wheels, Hayes MAG brakes, Fox DHX 5.0 shock, and Marzo 888R fork. The price is right, it looks cool (I've had many compliments on the trail), and the 4-Bar VPS suspension really works great in all conditions.
Weaknesses:Weighs 47 lbs. Comes with unsealed BMX-style platform pedals that wear out quickly when exposed the mud and crud you see in the woods. Adjustable geometry only has one useful setting.
Similar Products Used:2003 Norco Shore, 2002 Norco Launch, 1999 Santa Cruz Heckler.
Bike Setup:Stock, except for the pedals.
Bottom Line:I really like this bike, it's made me a better rider in the five or six months I've been riding it. I can't believe it, but it is even better than the 2003 Shore I rode for the past couple of seasons. And I liked that bike a lot! The 2006 Shore inspires confidence in every area of freeriding and is ready to ride hard, right off the showroom floor.

Bottom Line:This is an awesome bike. It is very strong and gives the impression you could beat it forever and it would come back for more. Soaks up bumps like they aren't there (with the Marzocchi 888Rs and Fox DHX-5). For a heavy bike it is still thrown around easily on single track, but it loves it when it gets to the drops and jumps too ! The spec list is very impressive for the cost of the bike.
Norco wasn't at the top of my list when I was looking to buy - but I am so glad I got this weapon !

Favorite Trail:lumpy pants
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $4000.00
Purchased At:Brentwood Cycle
Strengths:Amazing Build, Top end parts, Dhx 5.0 with vps rear is incredibly smooth, quiet, and this bike doesnt feel the least bit flexy in the back. 66vf2 fork is lighter, and similar performance to 888's, however can spin all the way around on this frame... (doesnt leave dings and allows you to steer tighter than a DC fork). with propedal turned up, the bike actually climbs like a goat (a slower heavy goat), but it also has a granny gear and an e-13 Dual chain guide to allow for easier climbs and prevent the chain from shifting off or sucking inward.
Weaknesses:titec scoper seatpost doesnt totally clamp down tight, seat sometimes moves, but on the bright side... you can use the scoper to figure out the exact seat post size you need then cut a regular one to custom fit the bike... will do this with a syncros seatpost soon.
Similar Products Used:Specialized big hit, santa cruz vp-free, kona stinky, older Norco vps bikes.
Bike Setup:Marzocchi 66vf2 fork (7"), SRAM X-9 shifters, SRAM x-9 rear derailler, FOX DH 5.0 Rear shock, Syncros wheelset, Syncros Stem and bar, Syncros Mental pedals (replaced the stock dmr v8 pedals), Saint 8" Brakes, Syncros lock on grips, KENDA Nevigal Stick-ee's, Syncros race Headset.
Bottom Line:This is the brand new 2006 Norco Shore 1. the frame has significantly changed over previous shores and combined with the lighter wheelset, lighter 66 single crown fork, and the top end build, makes for a very light (39 pounds) all around freeride bike that you can actually pedal uphill. I know that some people will say that 39 pounds is still heavy... for an all around all mountain trailbike it may be (you can buy the norco six one and get a lighter bike), but this is a true freeride bike... it is burly with extra gussets and reinforcement in all key areas to take all abuse you might throw its way. I have taken a few smaller drops and it can make a two footer feel like the curb outside your house, the bike can turn very tight and windy singletrack in the trees is easier with the single crown fork. This bike was designed specifically for the type of trails that BC is famous for, I am learning that the only thing holding me back from what this bike can do is my own fear, but that is shrinking the more I ride this bike... I think with the top end parts that are on this bike it is definitely worth the 4200 canadian MSRP, if you can get your hands on one for a serious test drive... It will leave you with a S#@t eating grin.

Strengths:INDESTRUCTIBLE. The only thing on this bike that I have ever broke was the freehub, and after the second one only lasting a month, a Saint fixed that problem. Can be used to pedal uphill as well, even though it is beefy. Gotta love the Super T's
Weaknesses:price, seat gets bent from the little guys too easily
Similar Products Used:Norco A-line, Atomik, Fuse
Bike Setup:stock, except for Saint rear hub and brake rotor.
Bottom Line:Great all around bike. It can keep up with downhil bikes such as the A-line, but can also be used for freeriding, big drips, etc. My buddys with A-lines will bottom off small drops, but the shore won't off of the big ones (10+ feet)unless your landing on flat.I would recommend this bike to anyone, even though the cost is a little hefty. It will repay you with the reliability. I have beaten mine up a lot, hitting many trees, stumps, rocks, ground, etc. and have still not had to fix anything. I love this bike.

Purchased At:Savage's
Strengths:Plush travel, takes a beating, EXCELLENT geometry, pedals very well, conquers hills slowly but surely, great value for the money, no skimping on good quality parts, well built wheels, etc. The bike is near perfect.
Weaknesses:Telescopic seat post is heavy and also useless if you are riding the correct size frame for your height.
Truvativ pedals don't grip your feet as well as they could or should.
Stock DH specific tires are way too heavy and overkill for a freeride bike, unless you strictly ride at ski areas.
Saint rear changer doesn't shift well, bike should come with SHORT cage changer since it doesn't have a big third ring anyway.
Similar Products Used:2002 Ironhorse G-Spot, 2003 Norco Launch, 1999 GT DHi.
Bike Setup:Stock, except for seat post, tires, and X.9 triggers.
Bottom Line:This bike weighed 44 lbs when I took it out of the box and after getting rid of the useless telescopic seat post and the stock DH tires, the bike now weighs 40! Not too bad for a 7" travel bike that can take all but the largest (read: Bender) hits and drops. I also changed the shifters so I could get my brake levers where I wanted them to be.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $2750.00
Purchased At:Fat Tire Cycle
Strengths:Designed to go fast downhill. The frame is rock solid, no flex at all. The rear suspension (vpp) pedals very well for a 7" travel bike. That was my only concern when I purchased the bike. The configuration of the bike keeps the rear tire firmly digging when climbing with no detectable bob. The breaks are perfect. The Saint derailer is a pleasure, it hasen't missed a shift yet and is quiet. The Saint cranks are just as advertised, bullet proof. The rims are stiff. The stock Kenda blue strip tires are excellent for the terrain here in NM.
Weaknesses:The weight can be an issue but I would rather have the rigidity of the frame and the beefy components and deal with the 45 lbs. It really doesn't feel that heavy to me due to the excellent desigh of the bike.
Similar Products Used:Compared Kona Stinky, Cannondale Prophet, Giant NRS 3, Giant DS2

Bottom Line:Confidence!! This bike just does what you want it to do. Thinking it and doing it are the same thing. I find myself passing good riders on rough downhills. I am collecting bugs in my teeth from smiling when riding.

I wanted a Santa Cruz VP Free, but didn't want to spend $4200. After carefull comparision, I have no regrets buying this bike. I love riding it!!

Price Paid: $2200.00
Purchased At:SBC Outlet
Strengths:Great conponent spec for the price, lands softly, tracks great, seems indestructible, dual chainguide, Kenda tires
Weaknesses:Doesn't accept 5th Element or DHX shocks in 7" travel setting ('05 model has this covered), at 45 lbs a heavy pig of a bike to pedal uphill, Holzfeller pedals - but I use SPDs anyway
Similar Products Used:SC Bullit, Elan Able 1 (Bullit copy),...
Bike Setup:Stock '04 except for the pedals, but that's going to change - it needs to lose some weight
Bottom Line:This bike kicks ass going downhill. The relaxed head angle makes it very stable at speed and the Horst Link suspension keeps the back end active under braking.Landing is like settling down on a water bed.Really soft. The Bullit with a 5th Element is plush, but this one is in a league of its own.
Currently I have it set in the 6" travel mode, because I prefer the 5th Element over the Vanilla RC.It's still enough travel for 10 foot drops which is my max presently.I'll probably swap the Super T for a lighter singlecrown fork with 6" of adjustable travel to make it more uphill friendly.I'll keep the Super T for the times when I put my big boy pants on.
I'll also try to lighten the bike some.I'm 155lbs and don't really need all the overbuilt components for freeriding. My target weight is around 38lbs, that's the same as the Bullit I had which could actually be pedalled uphill without busting a lung.
It's really great that Norco included the dual ring chainguide in the spec.
The Saint components really ooze strength but are way heavy.
As for the tires: Kenda has gone a long way since they introduced their Kinetic and Kollossal tires (which were crap by the way). The Nevegal and Blue Groove Stick-E tires work great in every condition except deep mud, which is still the realm of mud specific tires.
The only disappointment have been the pedals. They look and grip great, but developed some slop in a week of riding and I've never before had problems with any pedals I owned. But, since I use SPDs, that's not that big of a deal for me.
All in all, the Shore is a great bike at a great price and if your game is going down fast, jumping and dropping in, you don't have to change a thing on it.

Strengths:Smooth, very smooth, even on gnarly, greasy, rough, rooty, shore(and whistler)-style terrain. handles drops with ease, very much a confidence building bike. the holzfeller bar is the shizznizzle and the dewlie guide is the best thing ever, the saint parts are second to none!!!(roomates have gone through many derailleurs this season, me:none) it corners nicely, handles the chatters on 'dirt merchant' (you know the ones) like a champ, always accelerates easily, doesn't suck your energy when hammering, THIS BIKE LIKES TO FLY, so let it run, and you will be a happy camper. the double front chainring will put you ahead of everybody on the uphill climb, and once you get some lungs, you can pretty much climb anything, (...as you pass your friends pushing their single ring beasts... HA HA HA!!!)
Weaknesses:fork bottoms out, so just increase the oil height, or learn to land properly. the telescopic post is a pain, would be nice to get the seat lower, and it slips when climbing. cable routing could be improved to keep them cleaner, the original truvativ pedals were the worst, first they were machined wrong and popped in and out when pedalling, then the replacement ones seized up. norco offers axiom roadgaps to solve this, a solution i welcomed with open arms. the seat has a big dumb marzocchi emblem embroidered on it, but that's just cosmetic. although the bike is heavy, i can make it up any access trail here on the north shore and down the valley.

Weaknesses:Stock spring on super t's way too soft, Fox shock takes a while to get right.
Similar Products Used:Yeti ASX, Banshee Scream
Bike Setup:Stock apart from tyres. Replaced kenda's with 2.3 wtb weirwolf's. And replaced soft stock springs in super t's with firm ones. Also added some more fork oil as fork bottomed out even with the harder springs.
Bottom Line:A great bike to ride, very good for freeride and downhill. Have ridden bike in Wales on 25mile cross country course, although reluctant at first to ride it over a longer distance the bike climbed very well and handled technical tight singletrack with ease. I am far from suggesting this bike to be a cross country demon, bcos that would be far from the truth, but for those wanting to go up as well as down this could be the bike you are looking for.
Have taken the bike off 15ft drops without any failure
Soaks up drops with ease, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a hardcore freeride bike.
Would recommend if you want to reduce weight then change the tyres.
I am looking to upgrade hubs from stock to either hope or Saint and change the Fox stock spring with the ti version.

Bike Setup:Swaped out the handle bars for a stronger 3" riser bar and but a BMX saddle on it. OTherwise stock.
Bottom Line:This bike gives you confidence. If you're dropping 10 feet or 4 feet... Its smooth and if you do bottom the shock the compression damping is awesome enough both front and back to make it still feel plush with no harsh "bump" and the end of the travel. The "Sticky" rubber tires and lowish center of gravity make 4 inch skinnies into 6inchers and wet wood feel like dry concrete. If you're spinning up a hill you'll be in a great riding position but you'll be there for a while (nudge, nudge, wink wink... it's 45pds of freeride bike... no matter how effiecent the pedal stroke and rider position is, 45 pds=slow, even if it is easy). Having said that, if you have the muscle, this machine can grip a hill climb like nothing I've been on before.

All together... a GREAT freeride bike, especially for stunt trails. Not for a 130pd cross country rider. (I'm 6'5" and 205pds).

Weight = 44.5 pounds (measured when I picked it up).

Rough trails and downhill feel great, the suspension just soaks almost anything up.
Did not feel as nice as the Iron horse with a Shiver on a proper downhill run but is a lot easier to handle on low speed drops and anything that involves popping up over rocks etc.

The weight factor may cause extreme dizzieness if your pedaling uphill (which I don't know why you would do such a thing) Extremely easy to handle. The Saint stuff will take a beating and live to turn again. The paint is sweet and very thick. The Fox RC can be a B*tch at first but it softens up within a week (same for the Jr. T's) Pedals can cause total mayhem on shins if you don't wear pads. A definately good bike to improve any rider in all conditions.

Bottom Line:The bike handles like it is reading your mind, and knows what you want to do.

Its very good at steep technical climbs, pedals awesome. The Fox Propedal and the FSR 4 bar, works great.
I would say this is the Ultimate Freeride Machine including for those who still want to pedal. Its sooo balanced.... Braking is very good, and handling at low speed is awesome. This bike honors its name: Shore.
Handling at high speeds is also very good, but its not a downhill specific like a Turner DHR or a V10.

I can even do Trials very good, hopping climb stairs, etc.
In Dirt jumping is awesome. The feeling is incredible, is addictive, it does not has the feeling of a water bead like a V10. It’s perfect for working it out, jumping, drops, etc.

I selected the Shore, because the BB was not too high, like the Team Shore. The 7.1 inches of travel are invisible, the ending compression curve, is so well thought that you forget that you are on a double... Works just like a dream, addictive; you will never want to go off the bike.

Once you put the bike on some diet, like removing the Kenda tires, the heavy tubes, etc... the bike its 36 pounds!

The springs on the Super-T are sooo soft, that bottom out on a 4 foot drop, and I am only 176 pounds. I just ordered the firm springs, and meanwhile I am using it with a Z150.

The Titec telescopic seat post works very good. The saddle is good. The combination of XT Rapid Fire shifter for rear, and grip shift for the front is very good. The grips are ODI - very good. The Black Spire chain gide works awesome. The Truvavtiv handlebar is extra-long 72 cm. The Breaks are impressive Hayes - top of the line. The paint is very good and strong. Mine is silver - frozen silver, sand-blast - beautiful.

The construction is definitely serious hardcore. Rock Solid in every detail. Any Specialized FSR looks weak when compared to this bike. Don’t expect any CNC work of art like in a Turner, but its definitely fine built, welding are thick and good, and they pay attention to lots of details - its a mature design from a mature company, that knows a lot about freeride.

This bike is a dream. It will just make you a better rider, and is asking for more and more every time.

I would recommend this bike for anyone looking for all around play bike, for serious freeride, dirt jump, street assault, and as a general purpose trail bike. It will take you side by side with any cross country or trail bike, but they better be prepared when the downhill comes...they will barely see the dust.

Check Pink Bike, I will post some pictures soon...

Cheers!

I had the team race last season which proved to be a little long, which is OK for whistler, but unfortunatly, i dont ride there everyday.
