from British Columbia Date Reviewed: May 26, 2003 | | Favorite Trail: | 2 shieks and a dod | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Purchased At: | pedal your world | | Strengths: | super strong, no flex, repectable weight, beautiful color, wicked easton/mono frame.super unique | | Weaknesses: | hardly any. loud on trail. bad paint chips easy. | | Similar Products Used: | no other bikes have compared. ever | | Bike Setup: | mavic 321 disc/race face everthing,XT everything else. flats of course, thompson post, 2003 Z1 FR, hayes 8" F/R | | Bottom Line: | i cannot think of any reason to believe that this setup will ever fail. it eats sick DH, drops, chutes, loves the steeps, and even shows up on XC days. i absolutely love this bike and we will stay together for years to come. i don't give the bike a full value rating because i bought a frame and hand picked my parts. more expensive, but fully sweet and custom. worth it. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1800.00 | | Purchased At: | ShopRite | | Strengths: | The bike is strong in all places. Yet to break anything. The setup is very good and wroks weel together. | | Weaknesses: | The Price is hefty for a hard tail but its well worth it. Only weakness i have seen is the springs in the Z1 Dropoff QR20 I need heavier springs. | | Similar Products Used: | Norco Nitro. | | Bike Setup: | Stock except for 8" rotor up front. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is pricy for a hardtail but well worth it. I would reccomend this bike for anyone who is looking for a high quality hard tail that can take the punishment with ease. I give the norco 5 out of 5 because this bike is bullet proof. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2100.00 | | Purchased At: | Action Sport & Cycle inc. | | Strengths: | Solid bang for the buck. I am 5'6" and i have a hard time finding bikes that fit, the 13.5" frame is as good as i've found for a freeride hardtail. Real head turner with Burnt Orange paint job. Best bike i've had in years! | | Weaknesses: | Can't get rear hayes disc brakes to stop rubbing, anybody got any tips on how to fix that? | | Similar Products Used: | Santa Cruz Chamelion, Mongoose VRS 5.0, Rocky Mountain Hammer. | | Bike Setup: | All stock, except i upgraded to an 8" rotor up front. | | Bottom Line: | This bike pretty much kicks ass, Norco really knows what they are doing, and understand the freeride scene well. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2100.00 | | Purchased At: | John Henry | | Strengths: | Bulletproof frame (American Monocoque/Easton Elite), well thought out design for North Shore-style freeriding. Replacable drops, oversize stays with clearance for BIG tires. Amazing componentry for the price. | | Weaknesses: | - SRAM half-pipe shifters; probably better to have rapid-fire. - too plush with stock Marzocchi spring; need heavier for larger frame sizes (17" and over). - SRAM 9.0 is too weak; better with an 8-speed. - Would have put an 8" rotor on front. - A bit tough to climb; MCR fork might help. | | Similar Products Used: | RM6, Kona Stinky Primo, Brodie Spark, Brodie Holeshot, Ritchey Timberline (vintage :) | | Bike Setup: | Fork - Marzocchi Z1 Dropoff QR20 Cranks - Raceface NS XS double with bashguard. BB - Raceface splined Headset - FSA deep cup stainless Pedals - Axiom flats (cartridge) Freewheel - Shimano 9 speed Front changer - Shimano XT Rear changer - SRAM ESP 9.0 SL Shifters - SRAM ESP Short Brakes - Hayes 6" hydraulic Hubs - Formula (20mm Q/R front) Rims - Vuelta X Calibre Tires - WTB Motoraptor DNA 2.4's Seatpost - Axiom Pro | | Bottom Line: | Norco just about got it perfect for a North Shore style hardtail. Great technical descender, but a bit scary at speeds that might be more manageable with an 8" rotor up front. 99% of the components I wouldn't change, except for what I noted above. It's not a great climber because of the angles and the big-hit front fork, but that could change with the MCR.
I have to admit that I was biased against Norco from the early days of mtb, but they have really listened to riders and addressed all the issues. I rode a lot of bikes leading up to this purchase, and it's hard to imagine getting this quality of frame and these components together for this price. I heartily recommend this bike to anyone looking for a freeride hardtail.
