Date Reviewed: July 13, 2003
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1750.00
Strengths:frame geometry, 8inch hayes, lx/xt drivetrain super burly truvativ holzheller cranks & BB
Weaknesses:grips, seat, pedals, tire clearance is too tight 2.35max rear, compound of tires are too soft
Bike Setup:switched fork to a /03 Z1 FR, destroyed the stock seat then added a Titec El Norte seat, ODI ruffian lock-on grips
Bottom Line:this bike is swank!!! very stable at high speeds aswell as in the air...super burly frame will destroy me before i kill it, tire clearance is crap though 2.35 max. i cant comment on the DJ1 that is stock, but the Z1 FR 20mm is a burly mofo that craves more abuse. if you can find this bike around, buy it!!! you wont regret

Favorite Trail:Strathroy Cons
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1500.00
Purchased At:Doug and Marions bike sales and repiars
Strengths:Increadible frame, I love the Dirt Jumper 1 fork that came with it they have a nice plush 6" travel, it can go down the hill and still make its back up, it is also good for a little urban asault if thats ur thing.
Weaknesses:It could use 8" disc brakes instead of the 6" it came with. Other than that it has nno weaknesses I've found
Similar Products Used:non as good as the torrent for its price
Bottom Line:It a great out of the box Freeride/DH bike that won't empty ur wallet and will still take the beating u through at it. I would recomend it to anyone who is not strickly a DH rider.

Submitted by Dave a from New Brunswick, Canada
Date Reviewed: April 18, 2003
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:-Excellent frame geometry. Do whatever you want.
-The stock parts work well together. Excellent mix for the price.
-Well built frame.
Weaknesses:-Like the other guys said, not enough tire clearence. The stock Kenetics 2.35 is too large for the back and will would rub if the rim was even slightly out of true. If you were to go with a 24" rim in the back it appears that they have aloted more room though.
Similar Products Used:2001 Norco Sasquatch
Bike Setup:Stock except for the grips, a couple of fork boots and extra strong springs for the fork.
Bottom Line:If your thinking about investing and kind of money in a hardtail freeride bike you should consider the 2003 Torrent. I can find no fault with this bike other than the shortage of tire clearance. I owned a 2001 Norco Sasquatch for about a year and a half and I loved that bike. I never had a single problem with it and the Torrent looks as though it will be just as reliable.

Date Reviewed: April 11, 2003
Favorite Trail:Black Mountain
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1150.00
Purchased At:Bike Addiction
Strengths:Everything. the frame is strong but light. mad brakes (8 inch) and rims(single track). awesome suspension (5 inch DJ1).
Weaknesses:the only thing that gives me the sh*ts is that the tires are too big and rub against the fame. other than that this thing is a monster.
Similar Products Used:Norco 250 and 125, kona roast and stuff.
Bike Setup:Shop Setup. Rims are a bit bent so im going double track.
Bottom Line:hell the bottom line is i had to drag myself to the computer to write this. it is a awesome bike which deserves respect. im hitting 8+ drops now and it is taking them with ease. it can do anything from downhill, XC (can be a bit of a b*tch though), north shore, dirt jumping and of course freeride. i recommend it to anyone who is half serious. So have a look.
