It really works. I think that's enough.
Weaknesses:
Kinda touchy about seat placement but once dialed in it works great. It's kept me from being able to justify buying a full suspension bike.

Bottom Line:
I bought this seat post to save my lower back, and it really works. Keep it lubed with what is recomended and it's smooth as butter but feels strong. I just bought a new gas spring for it ($35) but other than that it hasn't given me a lick of trouble. I would like to try a full suspension though. If you want to take impact of your lower back this is great. If you want to go flying off cliffs I don't think this will do anything for you, get a full suspension.

Strengths:
Nice looking post in black with a good finish to it. Easy to see clear height markings on the post. Good clamping mechanism, a little flimsy though. Great adjustability of the gas rebound system. Very smooth action over bumps, ripples rocks and roots.
Weaknesses:
The biggest weakness of this post is the available saddle positioning. More info below...
Similar Products Used:
Cane Creek Thudbuster. Various other suspension seatposts....
Bike Setup:
HT SIR 9 and One Niner rigid SS.
Bottom Line:
This is a very good suspension seatpost. The action is smooth and well damped in both directions with no "kickback" like you get with the Thudbuster. The only bad thing I could find in my testing of this post was the saddle positioning. If you position the saddle too far back on the rails in the clamp you tend to make the damper rod flex and it causes stiction with a resulting lack of movement...so you have to position the saddle at the mid-point or slightly further forward to let the damper rod slide smoothly in it's travel path.
Now this is a non-event *if* you don't need a bit more cockpit room and your KOP is correct with a straight seatpost.. but if you find that you would like to get your saddle a little further towards the rear on the rails, then this seatpost is NOT for you.
Apart from this rather major problem, the Nitro Pro is a very fine product. It out performs every other suspension post currently on the market simply because of the engineering and superb damping action that it employs. It is ultra smooth and really does a great job of soaking up small and medium ripples , roots and bumps on the trail.
It's ONE failing is the saddle positioning you are forced to use with this post to make it function as designed.
I give it a good score because of the design and excellent damping action of the mechanism, but the whole idea is rather let down due to it's limited saddle positioning.

Hot damn, my Bontrager has been reborn! I'm no longer jealous of my wife's full suspension ride. I've just tried this on a local trail and it worked remarkably well. Made me realize how crappy my old Judys are up front by comparison. Hit roots with no problem at full speed sitting down...
Weaknesses:
A bit pricy, a bit heavy, and doesn't help my feet ;)

Bottom Line:
This one works as advertised, which is to say, very well. Haven't tried the competition, but most of the ones I wanted to try were bought out/crushed by Cane Creek. Oh well. I like the fact that I can still use a seat bag with it. The seat clamp is a little cheesy and cheap looking, but it works. The vendor was very easy to deal with and even made me one in black at no extra charge. The shaft is machined so it doesn't slip, which is important since this one uses shims to fit your bike's size. No slippage so far. As I said before, it takes the edge off the bumps really well. Rebound is well controlled. Thinking about getting the road version now for use on my road bike & touring bike :)

Bottom Line:
Once the seatpost is set up it gives a very comfortable ride. Alumaline include detailed instructions that should be heeded. The key is to place the seat as far forward as possible so your weight will be over the seatpost. With your weight forward the dampening of the seatpost will engage very comfortably. I ride all year if it is dry and over 40 degrees and I appreciate the dampening that this seatpost provides especially since I weight near 200 pounds. Many seatposts are available for lighter riders, however, heavier riders have fewer choices. This is one excellent choice.

Granted I only rhode on it for a day, but that is all the convincing it took. Nice and plush, you can have all the benefits of a hardtail with the feel of a full suspension. I am an average sized rider, so the previous complaints really do not apply to me. This is definitely a new and different product compared to what else is on the market. This post does a good job keeping you in the seat. I am no longer on my legs but can sit down and relax most of the ride. One improvement to design could be a two bolt seat clamp but no big deal. Overall very pleased with performance.

The Greatest! I spent three months asking around and researching before buying the NitroPro. I chose this seatpost because it advertised more shock absorption than others. Well I ‘ve had it long enough to give it a review and I am very pleased with its performance. Almost all off-road conditions whether large rocks, pot holes, tree branches or small rocks are completely absorbed and without any sudden rebounding. Movement is silk smooth all the time. I tried a friends stock factory sus.seatpost for comparison - not even close the shock absorption of the NitroPro. Definitely top five material.

I have ridden with USE and RockShox seatposts and now I have a NitroPro. This seatpost is much more responsive in comparison and stiction is hard to detect. The NitroPro just moves much more freely over all terrain - a result of a lower spring rate. Oil dampening is a real treat I stay seated no matter what I ride over and the no wear design does work as claimed. I have not had to buy any parts to rebuild it as with other seatposts. Gas suspension is the way to go I will not go back to elastomers. Anyone who wants an upgrade in comfort, off road or street, should buy this product.

(I'm 6'3 1/2"). The product has potential. Worth a try if you're a smaller rider I suppose. Mfgr has good return policy.

Does a good job of absorbing moderate bumps and is a reasonable weight. Easy to set up saddle. Superior factory support. Asked factory to shorten the length of the post above the shock because my inseam is 27.5 inches, and with the bottom of the shock already flush with the top of the seat tube, my saddle was a little too high for me. The factory did the machining for a reasonable price.

the stock seat post that came with my bike while good was killing my back and other areas on my body after about 4 or 5 miles. i looked at all the suspension seat posts on this web page. the nitrpro was just the best choice for me, the customer support was great, i was able to talk to one of the guys that designed the seat post, they gave me instant answers to any of the questions i had. they helped me with all facets of the ordering and even double checked my stock seat post size to make sure the shim would fit (i was on travel and didnt know my seat post size)
when i rode the nitro pro for the first time it was like heaven the seat post absorbed little and big bumps like a champ.
the cool whooshing noise when the seat post slowly extends to its full hight is nice and no rebound... 0... none... no feeling like you are going over the bars after that big bump. it smooths out almost any bump, the tension adjustment is great and easy to use, have yet to feel any sticktion.
the seat post does have a 1 to 2 degree lateral movement while pedaling, it really doesnt bother me it sorta of flows with my natural rythem while pedaling.
over all the seat post looks and rides great. one of the best purchases i have made since i got the bike.

No creaks or rubbing noises just smooth as silk movement. Excellent!
