Date Reviewed: January 20, 2000
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Price
Able to use standard batteries
weatherproof
Great bulb life
Weaknesses:Handlebar mount is limited in positions
Wiring harness weak at battery box
Bumps may cause batteries to shift and loss of light.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Trek 970 with Judy XC/White Bros springs
Bottom Line:Great value for price, great commuter light. Use high capacity nicads (4500 mAh) for 3+ hours of light, not cheap Eveready nicads. I have had to repair wiring harness where it exits the housing cap due to flex/wire breakage-needs additional reinforcement of cable at this point (heat shrink tubing works well). Recommended.

Date Reviewed: November 28, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Athens OH to Nelsonville, OH
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
Beams:dollar
Weaknesses:
10W bulb, duration of charge, fit to handlebar
Bike Setup:
Schwinn Frontier
Bottom Line:Good light for the money. The light didn't fit the handlebars of my Schwinn and I had to add some padding to make the bracket snug. I use it mostly for commuting, so it works well enough for me.

Submitted by SGT ROCK a Weekend Warrior from Drumheller, AB
Date Reviewed: April 13, 1999
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Strengths:
Tougher than the hubs of Hell
Can run it indefinitely with alkalines
Very easy to use on more than 1 bike
Ususable for other sports
Weaknesses:
10W is inadequate on fast downhill runs
Alkalines are significantly dimmer than nicads
Cord is too short to use unit as a helmet light
Bike Setup:
Mutiple mountain/road bikes
Bottom Line:The nicad package is essential to fully use the capabilties of this unit. This is the only light on the market that can run a 24 hr solo race without fast charge support and/or fast charging. 10W is a little weak, but the nicads will go a solid 3 hrs before they give out. Alkalines are rated at 5 hrs output, but they dim significantly after 2 hrs, and are practically useless after 3 hrs. I bought an extra cell holder so that I could ride a lap with alkalines while Niterider fast charges my nicads. This allows me to do a 24 hour solo race using the nicads for all but one lap, as they will last for 2 laps fully charged.

Submitted by Mark a Weekend Warrior from Sellersville, PA
Date Reviewed: April 12, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Valley Forge National Park
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
Price, light output
Weaknesses:
3 position mount has 2 positions that are useless. Tight fit makes it very tough to install the alkaline cells.
Bike Setup:
Raleigh M60
Bottom Line:This is a nice light for the price. The SuperSport comes with a water battery holder that holds either 5 alkaline D-cells or rechargeable Nicad D-cells.For an extra $20 I bought a 6V 5.0 Amp/hr lead acid rechargeable lantern battery at a battery wharehouse outlet and made up a wiring harness. The lantern battery also fits in the water bottle carrier. 4 chilis for the light, it gets minus one for the mount.
