    Price Paid: $1300.00
Purchased At:frame only demo at B
Strengths:Rear Suspension Design, Color, Geometry, Overall Ride Quality and Feel
Weaknesses:My build is too heavy, others may be good
Similar Products Used:Niner Sir 9 (geared and SS), First FS Bike

Bottom Line:Excellent race bike, probably needs a light build so it's tough to do on a budget, but if you go all out you'll have a really competitive bike. My bike is currently about 29 pounds with pedals on it, so I'd like to take it down a couple of pounds by going lighter on the cranks, hubs, and pedals. I think it climbs really well, I don't notice the rear suspension active on climbs at all, unless it's a rough climb in which cases it's an advantage. I rode it on a bumpy, loose, sketchy course with 3000 feet of climb at Xterra Maui this October, and it felt great. I've ridden it on some cross country training/fun rides, and the bike feels amazing, you feel really confident and solid on the bike from the first ride. I am currently running 80mm of travel in the front, and I think I'm going to give 100mm of travel a try. Should be a great all around, cross country and endurance racing bike.

Strengths:This bike feels so freaking fast and stable all at the same time. I am a 5'4" female rider who is very agressive on the trail. This thing climbs like a monster! I haven't spun out on any climbs thus far. It almost feels as though the bike propells you up the hill and you are nearly cresting before feeling the need to reach down deep and dig. On many corners that I've previously had to weight the outside pedal and pray to God that I don't slide out can now be almost pedaled right through. It is amazing. It clears log piles like they are little pebbles. I don't feel any of the awkward steering that they same a smaller rider might experience. I feel more at home and at one with this bike than I did with my 26" Giant Anthem 1 that I rode the previous 2 years.
Weaknesses:I can complain about nothing! I love this bike!
Similar Products Used:This is my first 29'er because I was concerned that it may feel sluggish and slow me down...nothing could be further from the truth with the Jet 9!
Bike Setup:Full build from the guys at Niner...It came with Sram X.O shifters, Mavic Cross Max Sl wheels, Fox front fork/shocks, etc.
Bottom Line:I thought my Giant Anthem 1 was sweet and fast but it has nothing on the Jet 9! I love this bike! It handles great (even for a smaller framed rider) and is very responsive. The very first corner felt awkward but after that it was awesome! It tears through and over EVERYTHING! I was initially concerned that it would be harder to propell and thus slow me down but nothing could be further from the truth!

    Purchased At:Biowheels-Asheville,
Strengths:Nimble while also quite stable at the same time, accelerates and climbs well. Totally balanced, responds immediately to rider imput.
Weaknesses:None really. May not be perfect for you if you want a super plush ride. Pick it if you want a great all around ride with a race-like feel. Would have liked it to be about a pound lighter at the build I chose, but will take more durability any day!
Similar Products Used:Niner MCR, 26 inch full sus. bikes
Bike Setup:XT group. Reba 80-100mm U turn, crossmax wheelset.
Bottom Line:First of all I would like to thank Kris, Eric, and Andy at Biowheels in Asheville, NC for all of their help and getting the bike set up for me. The bike far exceeds my expectations! If you are shopping for a Niner, check them out!
    www.biowheels.com

I would describe myself as an aggressive cross country/trail rider who also likes to race a few times a year. (usually endurance events) Was looking for a bike that could serve as my trail bike but not hold me back when I chose to race the bike as well. The Jet is the ticket with the adjustable U turn fork. At 100mm travel, it feels more like a trail bike, wind it down for more of a race feel if you want.

I would describe the suspension as always firm, but never, never harsh. The beginning of the travel seems firm, but it does not seem to ramp up at all through the travel: The faster you go and the rougher it gets, it still seems have enough travel between the big wheels and 3'suspension. This took a little getting used to, but love it because I have not felt beat up after any rides, can sit down and pedal through rough sections, but feel great power transfer at all times, and good control in any situation.

Ride: Awesome! This is hard to put in words, but the bike is very nimble, but surprisingly stable all at the same time.(Almost doesn't make sense when you say it out loud) Totally kills singletrack and tech sections. Funny it is much more nimble and great downhill as well compared to my previous 4' travel Ellsworth.

Climbs great, although I am still learning the proper balance on very steep sections with the larger wheels, again the u-turn reba really helps here.

And finally, durability and finish (anodized black) seem great thus far. This bike obviously has the new rockers on it.

Check out the Jet, you won't be disappointed!

Bottom Line:The bike rides great. Unfortunately, it broke. These things happen and I really wanted to like it the bike and company. The customer service was terrible. Had to harass them to get a new rear triangle. For bike this expensive, I expect excellent service if there is an issue. Once again, great bike, but really disappointing service on the part of Niner's warranty Dept. 2 chilis for Niner, 4 chilis for the bike.

Strengths:No other bike rides faster in 15 years of riding. I have an MCR9 and had a RIP9. I still have the MCR. The climbing is amazing and I am a big guy about 200 lbs with shoes and camelback. Anybody that says 29ers are not quick has not ridden a Niner before.
Weaknesses:I was one of the bike owners who's frame failed one day after I did a hard 10 mile MTB race. (2nd overall). I have spoken with both Brett and Chris and I feel they will fix the problem and the Jet 9 will become one of the best 29er fullsquisies on the market.

Per niner recs, I guess I'm not supposed to ride it for now. But god, I hope they hurry up with the solution. Bottom line, the rocker issue issue is ultimately irrelevant (assuming they fix it), because the wicked geometry is so dialed in. You will not find a full-susser 29er this quick and agile. Please niner, just give us new rockers, so we can get out and enjoy this killer product!!! FYI...this is coming from a die-hard Intense product lover who had his arm twisted to get this product. Believe this folks, asside from the fragile rocker issue, this bike is the mo-fo truth.

Bottom Line:Depends on Ninner – my rear suspension link just snapped and I am only 160. Here is what is really frustrating - I was setting up to race the Colorado Trail Race (www.climbingdreams.net) in July. Hard to withhold judgment… It WAS the best bike I ever had and I spent serious attention (carbon DT Swiss front shock, carbon FSA cranks, carbon everywhere else – XTR full – dt wheels/hubs, etc…just over 25 pounds) serious detail to make this the racing machine, which it was and performed amazing until now. I even sold my old bike to help pay for this – now I am empty handed. To think IF I made it along the whole Colorado trail on a Ninner, let alone a 2x9, regardless of my time (record is 5 days) – would have been the first! I was hoping to be proud and help ninner with the publicity, etc…will they have this fixed within the next 3 weeks? A real disappointment right at the height of racing season. I give them 1 maybe 2 weeks for response. Dam this ucks!

If they fix it then I'll redo my rating for them, if they don't I'll take it down to lowest. An opportunity or a loss Ninner?

Strengths:Most of all, just a lot of fun! Great ride, active suspension, quick handling.
Weaknesses:Mine has an upper arm rocker defect that broke.

Similar Products Used:Niner One nine, Salsa Mamasita, Giant Anthem, Santa Cruz Superlight.
Bike Setup:Set up as a 1x9. Fox F29 fork, DT 190 hubs, ZTR rims, XO, XT crank.
Bottom Line:I am holding off judgement until after I see how Niner handles this situation. On my 7th ride with the bike while spinning on smooth trail the upper rocker snapped in half. I weigh 180 and have only ridden it so far on a smoother beginner trail. What is frustrating is that when I called Niner June 4th they said they had a person in Taiwan investigating quality control and were not willing to reissue a replacement yet because of liability concerns. I was hoping this was a isolated incident but there must be more to it.

I otherwise loved the bike and hope that Niner quickly addresses the situation as they are usually good about doing. I will post again on the forums 29er site once I here something. The Overall rating would have been and will be a 5 if they fix the problem.

    Strengths:All around great bike, but.....
Weaknesses:Got the bad news today. I was called by the shop that sold me the bike. I was told that 7 rear linkages have either cracked or shattered. I was instructed not to ride the bike any longer until the issue is resolved. Apparently, Steve from Niner is overseas right this moment trying to get to the bottom of this.

Although things like this DO happen in this industry, this is a great chance for the folks at Niner to recover stronger than ever. This will hinge on how professionally they handle this crisis. No half-assed solutions are acceptable here! Based on my interactions with the guys at Niner, I expect that they will handle this situation promptly and appropriately to keep their loyal buyers on board like myself.

Strengths:Superfast, Climbs like a goat and is very plush. This bike is bar none, the best I have owned.
Weaknesses:The Motor!! and work gets in the way of my ride time.
Similar Products Used:The only other 29er I own is a Surly KM. Other 26er hardtails and a Trek Fuel
Bike Setup:Reba Race fork, Crossmax, Truvativ Noir crank, XO r der and Twisty shifters, XTR f der, Thomson stem and seatpost, Salsa promoto carbon bar, Hutchinson tubless with stans tires, Avid Ultimate brakes.
Bottom Line:Compared to the other 29er I own, this simply kills it in speed, cornering, climbing, or simply everything. I have ridden it (the JET)on the roughest trails and the smoothest ones and it doesnt leave me disappointed. Compared to other 29ers I have ridden it is the fastest steering and it actually feels like it wants to be ridden faster than I can push it.

Strengths:VERY smooth, extraordinarily stable, and amazingly agile. Not what you'd expect from a 29" fully sprung.
    Weaknesses:Heavier than a hardtail, but that's it.
Similar Products Used:Specialized FSR XC, Gunnar Rockhound, older Specialized Enduro, several others.
Bike Setup:Large Jet9, Salsa Pro Moto bar (nice and wide), 100mm Syncros stem, 203mm ft/185mm rr Juicy Three's (soon to be Stroker trails), Hope headset, Fox F29 100, SRAM X9/X0, Stylo 2x9 cranks (24/36) C29ssmax wheels, Kenda Nevegals tubeless with Stans.
Bottom Line:I'm the everyman, not a featherweight hammerhead racer or DH rocket. I love everything from smooth to rough trails because I ride to have fun.

First, the bad. (If you're a strong climber, disregard this paragraph, hehe)... I'm not a great climber, and with this bike there are two distinct things working against me besides the heavy Kendas. Firstly, the big wheels. Larger diameter rollout means ~11% more distance per revolution. If you intend to maintain a cadence, you'll have to move quicker (and thus use more energy). Secondly, the double-ring crankset I'm using has a 24t granny. This stacks on another 9% output per crank revolution compared to a 22t. Together this means I have to climb 20% faster to maintain a comfortable cadence. In other words, when I'm climbing in the granny gear, it covers 20% more distance per crank revolution than a typical 26" setup. Since I can't just "go faster" on the climbs, I'm hoping the extra physical effort results in improved climbing potential.

None of this means the bike is a poor climber, just me and my components aren't ideal for upward trails. The larger wheels really do make the climbs technically easier, they just take a bit more effort to push, that's all.

Now the good. The Jet9 is a transparent machine, it just does everything right so you can focus on the ride. Its handling is telepathic, it tracks exactly where you want without any hesitation. Niner has nailed 29" geometry because its nimble without a hint of awkwardness, and its stable and extremely fast on the descents. The frame is stiff, responsive, and I can't detect any slop or unwanted movement in the linkages. The RP23 shock performs very well, and the Pro Pedal definitely firms up the rear end. Leaving the shock fully active while climbing over technical rocks and other garbage does help provide additional grip and can prevent the rear wheel from getting hung up, so I only flip the lever "on" for long smooth climbs.

The 29" wheels used with tubeless tires will allow you to power over technical climbs with authority. You don't have to finesse and snake through a carefully chosen line as you would with 26" wheels. They roll over obstacles so easily, and this quality is enhanced by the Jet9's geometry so tracking over rough stuff becomes very predictable. 3" of cushion is just enough to smooth the trail nicely, but combined with big wheels feels like 4" so it has no problem flying through rough stuff.

This bike has changed my attitude on riding. Everything is more fun now. Yeah the climbs require more energy than I'm used to, but I can always try lighter tires and a smaller granny. None of the "bad" things mentioned above really carry any weight when evaluating this frame. Much of it is due to my components and physical abilities. I give 5 flaming chilis because this is by far the best bike I've ridden on the trail in many years. I just can't wipe the smile off my face. (:

Bottom Line:Well, I hope this bike continues to be as fun as it was on my first outing with it yesterday. I put in about 15 miles on it and it was a blast. Although nothing truly climbs like a real hard tail, this was pretty darn close when Propedal was set to #3. It tracked really well on the descents and the RP23 soaked up the bumps like they weren't there. 5 chillis from me! Nice work again from the guys an Niner.

Buy this bike if you want a fast and cush ride that can still climb with the best of them. Weight weenies may want to consider something with more carbon..hah.

Bottom Line:This is the greatest bike I have ridden in a long time. I loved my EMD and it was light. I just couldn't stand everyone smokin' me while seated on their FS rigs and me bouncing along, getting pounded by the trail, and going to the chiropractor afterwords.
Active suspension and amazing handling are the characteristics that come to mind. This bike has a better turn radius than my EMD. The RP23 and Fox F29 are superior products to anything else on the market. I ran the Reba on my EMD and I was never happy with the fork.
Mike Curiak at, Lace Mine 29, is the man when it comes to wheels. Get the absolute best wheels you can afford. It makes a huge difference in every aspect of the ride on a 29er.
Unless you like 'rigid pain' you won't be disappointed with the climbing capabilities. This is my ride for the Silver Rush 50 in Leadville. My EMD and Reba were and experiment in torture last year.

The CVA suspension is buttery smooth yet efficient, evidenced by the fact that I was able to stand and hammer up 2-3 minute sustained and fairly steep climbs as quickly on the 25lb. I close ground in tight and twisty trails in races and out climb most other racers. Very fast on descents and accelerates well. Solid frame and linkage that has very little distortion. Can handle the ruff stuff as well, but not a big drop frame. Tracks perfectly in full speed turns, let it rip!

    Weaknesses:Slightly heavier than expected.
    Similar Products Used:Niner RIP9
Bike Setup:Kenda Karma 1.9, C29ssmax, RockShox Reba Race, Avid Juicy 7, SRAM X-9 Shifters, SRAM X-0 rear, DEORE front, Raceface RIDE low riser bar, Easton EA90 stem, FSA orbit headset, FSA v-drive crankset, SRAM chain and cassette, Thomson stem, Selle Italia Signo saddle.
Bottom Line:I own a medium anodized black frame. The "JET" name is really appropriate to this bike. It makes obsolete the assertion that 29er are slower. CVA suspension seems to work better on the JET than on the RIP. There is no pedal bob, no brake jack, still fully active, laterally stiff and propedal becomes useless. The shock is somewhat plush and flatten most bumps, just enough so that the bike doesn't beat you (that is the purpose of a 3 inches suspension, isn't it ?) but it is also firm enough to react instantly when you unleash the power. It is so snappy, almost like a HT when you sprint and you forget you ride a FS. While you lift the bike it doesnt' feel super light but when you ride it, oh man !, it is amazingly flickable. This characteristic makes it a better climber than the RIP on steep and technicals hills where you need quick accelerations to clear obstacles. It climbs like a scared cat chased by a doberman mob. The RIP felt more sluggish, slow to accelerate on flat terrain and uphill. Moreover, it is not flexy at all because the rockers are big and thick and nice. The JET geometry provides a quick steering. The short wheelbase is much better.

JET and RIP cannot be easily compared. It’s like a Tank vs a Light Armour Vehicle (LAV). Both are super strong when used properly because they are not built for the same purpose.

Anyway these are only words. The best and only way to understand what I’m saying is to get on the bike and ride it. It’s like trying to explain why 29er is better than 26er to someone who never tried one.

I’m a XC finesse rider, I enjoy going full throttle from point A to B and do small jumps I see along the way. I will participates in some races. I don’t really enjoy DH. When I see a hill, I wonder how fast I can go up but I like to go fast down the hill too. I don’t like to be beaten by my bike (no more HT) but I want a snappy bike, not necessarily a plush bike. If you are this type of rider too, the light and strong three inches travel JET may suits you perfectly.

Get the JET if pure speed is what you enjoy or are going to race. NEVERMIND the weight difference because it is really a very small "weakness" compare to the geometry, stiffness and CVA suspension qualities. I must acknowledge I was very sceptic about the JET when it was released but now that I’ve ridden it, the only one word I can use to describe it is... FANTASTIC plus 5 blazing chilis.
