Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Comfort and fit
Weaknesses:Construction
Similar Products Used:Shimano low-end and Answer Accelerator
Bike Setup:Scwinn Homegrown Team HT
Bottom Line:I'm writing this 3 days after getting them. They fall apart...

I bought them new from eBay from a triathalon athlete who had no need for them. The first day I put cleats on 'em, they felt great. Two days later, after a short ride, when I put them next to my other shoes, I saw that the outsole of my right shoe was coming off from the rest of the shoe. Also, the screw plate for the cleats slid around inside of the right shoe, which gave me a bit of free play.

They are junk. I am hoping that I can use some epoxy ("Double Bubble") from work on them. The epoxy is used on F-15s, so hopefully I can salvage them.

1 chili for value, since I consider them a complete waste of money.

2 chilis overall. The fit was the redeeming value. Style and construction make these shoes nearly worthless.

Weaknesses:little on the small side
Similar Products Used:nike cairns, answer accelerator, shimano m100
Bike Setup:Yeti ARC, XT, duke race
Bottom Line:I got these in middle of 1997, had to have a pair (i admit i love nike), paid full price $200-220 australian dollars, and after nearly 8 years, worth every cent and more. Apart from them not being a good match for those red shimano 636 pedals, they have been perfect. i really like the cairns, have 2 pair, but i think these are better, a little wider (but shorter) and they just keep going and going. mine arn't on their last legs yet, so long as you don't have to walk, theres not much tread left, click clack :-). So now i just have to track down a new pair.

Stiff but not too stiff (the cairns can be a bit stiff) and i just love them. maybe i'll get some of the new nike stuff, but if i can find some more of these, they will be mine.

Purchased At:Nike Warehouse
Strengths:- Cheap!!! The cheapest pair of cycling shoes you can buy - OK so they were in the clearance warehouse. But still . . .
- Good ventilation
- Stiffness
- Looks good (in the blue)
- Don't know about durability yet
Weaknesses:- Time cleats don't work quite as well with this shoe as does the Specialized Comp - sole surgery needed to correct this.
- Narrow cut
- Otherwise I'm not going to complain because it is sooooooooooo cheap.
Similar Products Used:- Cannondale C-Sole (good for recreation riding but anything else is too mcuh to ask of this shoe)
- Specialized Comp - nice shoe & got it at a discount but not quite so big a discount as the Nike. Stiff and everything else but ventilation is not up to Nike standard. Works great with Time cleats.
Bike Setup:Cannondale CAAD3 hardtail with XT drivetrain (ok, Deore shifters & front mech), Avid SD7 brakes, Time ATAC Alium pedals
Bottom Line:I'm not going to complain about anything!!! At $50 Aussie, it is so cheap that it doesn't matter how well it works. But it works well, stiff sole & excellent ventilation. I just wish it was cut a bit wider.

Unfortunately it is made by Nike (or someone in a sweat shop).

If I could find another pair I'll go buy one, but I think all the pairs in Sydney are now sold out now that everyone has found out about this deal . . .

Strengths:durability, stiffness, ventilation
Weaknesses:ventilation in winter/water
Similar Products Used:adidas something or other
Bike Setup:GT Zaskar all XT, Tomac 78 Special all XT
Bottom Line:I have had these shoes for at least 3 years, maybe closer to 4 years and they are just now finally falling apart. I ride exclusively off road and race the occasional 24 Hour race.

I have found these very durable. The toe stitching is finally coming apart and the sole is wearing down on the toe area to the point that it made me put the cleats in to get any traction at all. Other than that nothing. My wife says no one should ever offer me a warranty on anything 'cus I usually break everything. Not these shoes. To bad I can find 'em anywhere in my size anymore.

These are definately stiff shoes. I've been trying on a lot of shoes looking for replacements and I walk away think I had on a pair of sneakers they are all so flimsy.

Only real downside is the ventialtion which is a double edged sword. Great in the summer but a bit cold in the winter or when wet.

Purchased At:online someplace...
Strengths:bombproof...at least for me, well ventilated in dry warm weather,
great fit, gosh darn stiff
Weaknesses:a little to well ventilated in colder weather and thru water.
Bottom Line:Reviews of these shoes have varied, which is pretty consistant with Nike's inconsistancy.
I have narrow, kind of high-arched feet and the soles fit great. I like the lace/velcro combo, it allows for a lot of comfort adjustment. I've ridden these hard for a year and they have held up incredibly well - nothing's seperated, cracked or fallen off. The one problem I have is the ventilation: while they're cool enough in warm weather, they're almost too ventilated when it gets cold outside and they pick up a lot of water in heavy rain or creek riding. I love these shoes, the price was right, they look good, and ride great.

and ONZA HO pedals (on the roadbike, too)
Bottom Line:Shoes are a bargain for the dough. Yeah, they'd give me hotspots when I wore em for too long during the first season with em. Yeah, a couple of the lugs chunked off (start of season #2?). And they take a while to dry out when you soak em good. But I got a pair of Diadora Chili's with my new bike, rode em a handful of times, and switched back to the Yuhas and put season number 3 on em. Chili's couldn't hang stiff-ness wise after I was used to the Yuha. Rode em in the Triple Bypass, even (120 miles because of a slight detour, and over 10,000 vertical feet of climb). But then the fact that I still ride pedals that were discontinued 3+ years ago may tell you something about me, too. If they still made replacement parts, I probably wouldn't be looking for replacements for the OnZa's yet...
Buy em if you find a good deal on em, want stiffass shoes, and don't like switching out equipment every season.

Bottom Line:I bought these 3 years ago and they have held up well for me.I don't run the toe spikes because they feel awkward. The velcro doesn't grab anymore. They cause pressure points on my feet if i cinch them snug, so they must be run looser than normal. I must be lucky because mine have not fallen apart. You can get them at a great price now also. Strengths:Cheap
Weaknesses:Lugs falling off.
To high an arch.
Holes above toes.
Similar Products Used:Shimano
Bottom Line:I just got these shoes, and I'm already regreting I spent the money on them. I bought these over the internet and have learned a lesson I guess. They looked great, having all the features I was looking for and at an unbelivable price. Or so I thought. The soles rubber is to soft and the lugs are falling off left and right. There are holes in the shoe above your toes, that are making spring creek crossings less than fun. The toe spikes are kind of close together making the shoe a little less stable than it could be. Laces and velcro is a pain in the ass, but without the laces you won't get them tight enough. Also the laces don't seem to go as far up your foot as they could to even better secure your foot. With the velcro - to get it to wrap across my foot without pinpoint loading the velcro doesn't line up properly for secure it closed. And lastly the fit doesn't seem to match my foot to well. I have a large but normal width foot with a fairly high arch, and not to much pronation. These shoes are too high in the arch even for me, and I think require a little more pronation to fit well. For a shoe that looks so good in pictures, I can't beleive it sucks so bad.

Weaknesses:Shoes shrinks in superwet conditions! I was most amazed with the fact that my right shoe shunk more than the other one. The 10.5 has shunk down to a 9!

Nike refused to replace them and accused me of exposing the shoe to excessive heat! It suddenly appeared to me the Nike is not only exploiting child workers but me as well.

Strengths:None, Nike should stay out of the MTB shoe business unless they decide to buy out SIDI and put a quality shoe on the market.
Weaknesses:Poor sole design, very flexible, doesn't hold up hard riding.
Laces and velcro--hey, Nike pick one or the other, not both.
Similar Products Used:Sidi Dominator--I should have just bought another pair...
Bike Setup:Cdale F1000--this bike rocks
Bottom Line:Don't buy these shoes if you ride hills, XC or race. They would make great shoes for a street commuter with no hills --that's about it. The sole of the shoe is too flexible for hard pedaling and the cleat mounting is thin--this causes substanstial pain on the ball of your foot. I had to carve large chunks of the tread out so I could clip into my cleats (SPD's).

Save your money--buy SIDI or Carnac, it may cost you more, but the product will perform much better.

Weaknesses:
Great thick and agressive sole, but the thick sole made it hard for me to clip into my SPD pedals. I ended up using the Moto tool to grind off a little of the sole so the bindings could engage and stay locked in. Also the very outer edge where the lower velcro strap anchors to the outside edge of the sole is starting to delaminate on both shoes. Superglue seems to be holding the strap on for now. Shoe laces always get stuck to the velcro and is a pain to pull apart when I am ready to put shoes on before a ride.

I origanally wanted to purchase the red Yuha's, but Performance had them on sale for $39.00 What a deal!! I use my NIKE's for freeriding and they are very comfortable. The toe spikes are not really necesary for the riding I do, but they work great for climbing, giving me that little needed x-tra traction. Great ventalation on hot days, but your socks get wet if water hits the mesh on the sides of the fore foot area. These shoes look cool and perform xlnt for the price. Roomy toe box, but snug fit--better than my Sidis. Nice lace up and wide velcro straps.
Weaknesses:
Two Issues:1. I had a problem with the sole degrading at the ball of the foot where the leather upper bonds. A crack started to form. First an inch, then another, and within days a four inch crack and the upper started to separate from the sole. Nike needs a simple redesign. All the sole needs is a moulded rubber or flexible plastic rim or cup that comes up all around the ball of the foot on both sides to give the upper more area to mate with the sole.2. I had one of the straps, the front one, tear right at the sewing line to upper. I think the sewing process during manufacturing cut the strap ever so slightly, creating a weak spot, so that it eventually ripped. I think Nike fixed this problem with a nylon fabric backing to the strap (Peformance replaced the shoes with a pair of 99's...cool, huh!). One suggestion, though, for the straps. The are mearly sewn on flexible mesh-like fabric, which flexes a lot. The shoe could be improved by Nike running a piece of leather or stronger fabric directly underneath the straps for good stressor, pull-points.

Bottom Line:Although the Yuha Plus has been the best fitting shoe--even better than Sidi Dominators, but I had a couple of problems because of poor design and manufacture. I bought the shoes on sale from Performance in January and rode them just about everyday for three months--I bicycle commute to work. I first noticed that the sole started to degrade at the ball of the feet right where the leather upper bonded to the sole. It just started to crumble! First an inch, then two inches, and then four inches a couple of days later. Admittedly, I rode them in all types of weather and I occassionally got off the bike to charge up a hill. Some might say that I flexed them too much right at the ball of the foot, and I'd agree if both shoes started coming apart, but only the right shoe came apart. The left shoe was fine, except for it's own problem. The front toe strap tore right at the sew point. I guess during manufacturing the sewing cut the strap ever so slightly creating a week point. I have two suggestions for Nike to improve the Yuha Plus. First, they need to bring the sole up around the ball of the foot about 1 cm to give the leather upper more surface area to bond to the sole and distribute stress. Second, the straps need to be sewn to something other than jsut the soft leather and mesh fabric. Nike needs to run a strip of canvas or nylon fabric underneath the straps to create a stressor/pull-point for the straps. Here's the good news. Performance Bicycle Shop replaced them with 1999 models even though I had bought them on sale! NO HASSLE! Hats off to Performance. They know how to treat a customer. The new shoes are holding up great, so far. Love the new silver color. Great shoe otherwise.

I have had the Yuha's for an entire seasonand have found the comfortable and a good combination with Shimono 535 pedals. They have a nice stiff sole and good traction....until the soft rubber wears out, which is VERY quickly. I would not recommend them for a big rider who gets off the bike alot, the sole will wear out. Great Shoes, so what if there's no 'Nike Air' these shoes aren't for Michael Jordan types, these are some serious riding shoes. For those Hammerheads the shoes are plenty stiff. It's the shoes Team GT wears and for good reasons, they are comfortable and snug without suffocating your feet, and for steep off the bike climbing they offer excellent traction, even on slippery mud. As for durability, I had my pair for about 10 months now and they are still holding up even on muddy and wet conditions to really hot and dry rides. Great fit even without the laces, they are wide enough on the toes and snug to keep your heels from sliding around.

This be my first pair of clipless shoes, I bought the yuha-plus after scanning and scanning the reviews. I purchased them as well from Nashbar due to the rave on the $10 pedals that those folks are happy to supply with a purchase of any pair of shoes. I'm definately the newbie so my review comes from the heart (or should I say cog?)
I'm wearing the left shoe now at work and it's a tight fit for an 8 1/2. But the snugness is not causing any pain.
The construction is very good.
The sole is very stiff and I didn't slide all over the bathroom floor.
I can't comment on the pedals cause I never used them before. Suffice to say as I was fooling around with the parts I connected them to a shoe and man-o-live it was a pain to pull them off. I gave Nike a grilling over the horrid Super Pooh-Bah shoe, so why did I give them another chance? Mostly because everyone (including the reviewers here) seemed to like the Yuha Plus. In fact, you'll see better reviews for the Yuha than the Italian-made Cairns (Yuhas are made in Taiwan, like most Nike shoes). Got mine for $79, which is much more realistic than the $119 retail price, and a lot cheaper than the Cairns. I slipped my foot into them with skepticism, I was envisioning Super Pooh-Bah torture again. Surprise, these shoes fit! I'd read some of the reviews that said these shoes cater to the wide foot/narrow heel crowd, and it's true. The lace/strap combo is a nice option, but I was able to ditch the laces and still get good results from using the straps alone. I've only ridden on them a few times, but first impressions are excellent. The soles are stiff, promoting excellent energy transfer (unlike the old Pooh-Bahs). The toe cleats help keep your footing if you find yourself portaging the bike up hills. I was expecting to be shaving the tread to get them to work with my Time ATACs, but it wasn't necessary. For the Yuha, it seems that Nike skipped the poseur styling and the bells and whistles that don't work---for once. I'm not anti-Nike because they're the big giant they are, but I've seen their standards plummet over the last fifteen years. The Yuha is a definite exception, by all appearances (and a few rides), a damn good shoe. We'll see how it holds up.

Using the laces definitely gives a snugger fit, they are a real pain to tie under the velcro. Without the laces they are not as snug but acceptable for casual riding. They fit me rather well, except that they are a little to wide in front, and there is no way to tighten them up there. I have not gotten blisters or hot spots, ie, they are comfortable, for me. Terrific shoe - very comfortable without any painful break-in, and a stable platform. The lace / strap combination allows for endless minor adjustments. I upgraded to these from a pair of old Performance shoes and regret having taken so long to do it. I needed to adjust the cleat placement a couple of times before they felt right, but once I found the right spot, they felt very efficient. It was nearly 100 degrees yesterday, and the shoes allowed more than sufficient air-flow. I have very bad ankles (years of torn ligaments and broken bones), and sometimes have trouble finding shoes that provide enough support around the heel. These were rock-solid without binding or restricting movement the way some high-cut shoes can. Either these are great shoes, or I didn't have any idea what good shoes were like... I bought the red Yuha Plus shoes this year as a replacement for my first pair of mtb shoes (not including the one pair of Specialized I bought in between but returned after one ride). I did a lot of shopping for a quality shoe that would fit a narrow foot and heel. I have to admit the Sidi's came close to fitting while the Nike Cairn's might of felt better after a lot of break-in (they had a weird pressure-point on the side from the exoskeleton). The Specialized set of shoes I bought only had Velcro straps (no laces), one of the cleat-bolts stripped out the inside-the-shoe plate (a common Specialized problem lately), and the heel area became too large which allowed heel slippage. The Nike Yuha Plus just fit really well and it didn't seem like it would need a lot of break-in.
In shoes if one of those micro-adjust ratchet systems (Dominator's, Cairn's) does't fit you or your budget, I am a big fan of laces to give the best reliable fit over Velcro straps alone. Also laces can be replaced, velcro is a little tougher to replace.I have ridden in these numerous times and raced in them once. I seriously consider these shoes to be of the quality of shoes costing $50 more.

For me the Yuha beats Sidi, Carnac, Gaerne, Shimano, Specialized, just to name a few of the shoes I tried before settling on Nike. I have a very wide (E width) foot with a narrow heel. I also need a good arch support - bad feet. This is the first cycling shoe that has been wide enough not to squish my little toe and give me good heel support. My heel would either rise on other shoes, or I would be able to take the whole shoe off without undoing the straps, buckles, or whatever. The Yuha is very stiff in the sole and fits snug to the foot. I did use some SUPERfeet leverage performance orthotics ($25 in your favorite LBS - if they have it). I found the arch support that came with the shoes to support me in the wrong place. I also found the laces too big, long and wide. They would bunch up under the tongue and put pressure on the top of your foot - not good. Because the shoe is so stiff it required a bit of break in. The first couple of rides hurt the feet, but now all is sweet.Due to the minor mods, its 4 out of 5.

The tred is too high or there is not enough width for the pedal. The cleat will not fully engage the pedal, it bottoms out first. Why buy a new pair of shoes and have to carve them up to get them to work. The shoe looks good and is nice and stiff, but for a few extra bones there are many other high quality options.

This is the only MTB shoe I have found which comes in a true size 15. I have narrow heel & wide toes, & this shoe fits well. Super stiff sole, uppers seem durable. I find it well padded & pretty comfortable to wear all day. Cons: seems a little on the heavy side & some of the tread came off the sole (glued on), no big deal, seems like a real good shoe for the money.

Nike has produced another great shoe. Very stiff sole with spike option. You have a choice of either velcro or lace up or both. Velcro is what I use and is quick and effective. Large reflective heel for night riding. Cool looks and colors too. I have found that the tread on the sole is not the best at gripping rocks especially when their wet. The thermoplastic they use is super stiff but not very good at gripping surfaces like rock. The gripping power is excellent though on mud and leaves. The fit is top notch with good breathability. 5 stars!

I have been very happy with these shoes. If I wear them for a LONG time my feet start to hurt a little bit, but I think that's normal. The only real problem is that these shoes don't breath really well. Over-all I really like these shoes, it's just that my feet get hot in them. Really great value though (especially when you pay half price).

GREAT SHOES! THEY FIT SO COMFORTABLY AND ARE SO EASY TO ADJUST WITH BOTH THE
LACES AND THE VELCRO. GREAT STYLING AND LOOKS. THE SOLE IS NICE AND STIFF AND THE SPIKES GIVE ME GREAT TRACTION. GOOD PRICE, WHEN I FINALLY FOUND THEM IN THE
STATES FOR ABOUT 110 BUCKS, WHEN YOU COMPARE THEM TO OTHER SHOES MORE EXPENSIVE
THAN THAT. THEY DEFINATELY LIVE UP TO THE NIKE REPUTATION!

I have had these shoes for 6 months now and they are terrific. The sole is extremely stiff and the fit is quite good. I don't use the laces, just the velcro, and they fit great. They do seem to loosen up during a ride but one retightening is all that is necessary. The sole has good traction but seems to be wearing quickly. I would suggest that you always leave the removeable cleats in the shoes so that the front of the sole doesn't wear out so fast. I use these with shimano 727 pedals and it has been a great combo. The best shoe for the money!

Got these shoes through nashbar with the ritchey clone pedals.. They're great, by far the best fitting shoes I've ever had. I have a big wide foot (size 13) and these fit great. Only complaint is that the cleats are kinda tricky to put in, but here's a trick. Screw one of the screws in, and use it to pull the plate out so you can screw the other screw through the cleat in. (it's hard to explain, but you'll know what I mean when you see them) Nike as always has done a good job here.

These shoes are OK, but they have one over-riding problem, they hurt my feet! Here's what happens, there is a big seam, or lump where the velcro strap and other parts attach. This happend to line up with bone just below my little toe. After an hour of riding it starts to hurt and after 2 hours it hurts like hell. Maybe it' just me, but I would definetly be prepared to take these back, like I did. You can run your hand on the inside of the shoe, outer edge, and feel for yourself. You may not notice it while walking around the bike store, I didn't unitl I rode 'em awhile. On the positive side. They have a roomy toe box, Very stiff sole and aggressive tread.
