Submitted by Greg a Cross Country Rider from Arundel
Date Reviewed: October 31, 2005
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:I don't know what you are all going on about - these shoes are superb. I have owned them for ages and they are in great condition. They are warm in the winter, breathable in the summer, light, comfortable and great value for money. Provided you hose them off at the end of each ride, and use some thread lock on the SPD bolts you will never have a problem with them, but the same can be said for all shoes.
Weaknesses:Well, the laces are too long. You guys don't own scissors? If you look closeley you will see there are two sets of holes in the shoe, and if you thread through all of them it uses all the lace. I don't, I just use the inner set, and it took me all of 1 minute to cut them down and melt the end with a match. Yup, the rubber will wear away...maybe you shouldn't put your feet diwn so much!
Similar Products Used:Specialised race type shoe and something horrible by SIDI years ago.
Bike Setup:Specialised Stumpy FSR 120 2005.
Bottom Line:Awesome shoe. Warm in winter, cool in summer. (Bear in mind I live in the UK, so they could get too hot if you live in Arizona or somewhere...). Durable. Machine washable. The best shoe for multi-season XC by far.

Bottom Line:I'm adding this review to help all of you other who got hosed like I did. These shoes SUCK! The rubber lugs on the soles fall apart damn near when you look at them. But since I was dumb enough to but them without looking here at the reviews, I WAS smart enough to look after I did, and heard that others have contacted Nike. So, I e-mailed Nike, and promptly received an e-mail reply. They sent a return authorization tag, so I sent them back in. It said to wait 4-6 weeks for a response, so I finally called them after 8 weeks with no word from them. Their rep was great, and immediately get a new pair of shoes out to me. I had a choice of Inyo or Inyo Mids, and chose the Mids. A much better shoe, with a very nice sole that so far has worked well. In short, the shoe was a pile of s**t, but Nike did what they should have done to rectify the complaint.

I've had these shoes for a couple of years now (through warrantee replacements) and have to review them before the trash collectors put them out of their misery tomorrow... Basically repeating what others have found:Soles that disintegrate if you even look at them; snaps that crack at the slightest impact; and a fastening mechanism that just seems to want to tear apart.
The only reason I've kept them for the past few years is that they're pretty warm (wind-proof) in winter. So long, Supa (Crappy) Pooh Bah.P.S. Maybe Nike should stick to sports they know something about!

I'm pretty much repeating what has already been said. After only one ride the lugs on the soles began to tear off. After two months, they were completely slick on the bottom; a nightmare should you need to push your bike through any mud or clay, or walk across a log during a stream crossing. I am giving two chilis instead of one due to the fact that beyond the soles, the damn things won't fall apart though I wish they would.

I bought these shoes about 6 months ago and have ridden them at least two times a week since. I haven't had the problem of the sole falling apart or anything like that which surprises me since I pretty much hate the shoe and would like to b*tch about that as well. Anyway, the fits sucks and I just can't get them to sit right on my foot. I only paid 40 bucks or so for them and they are my first Nike MTB shoe (and definately my last!) Being the cheap b*stard that I am though, I can't get myself to toss em and just buy new ones. They still look pretty new. I really want them to start falling apart so I can finally justify getting rid of them. Anyone have a dog who needs something to chew on? Summary: Nike MTB shoes suck, don't fit right, and tease you into buying them with their cheap, we want to get rid of these crap shoe, prices.

Got a pair of Poobah 2s on clearance - now I know why they were cheap. Because they suck! The fit was all wrong, and the sole split across the arch after one small jump. Bottom Line:

Yep, they pretty much suck. Mine haven't self-destructed, but they fit like the cheap Asian sweathouse shoes they are. These things are tight in some places, and loose in others. Nike used to really do their homework on their products, but now they just slap their name on any design that looks cool, without much regard for performance. Their stint in hiking boots has had pretty much the same result: all show and no delivery. I hear the Italian-built Cairns are a superior shoe, but for $210 they damn well better be! Chances are that Nike commissioned someone (who knows something about cycling) to design and build the Cairn. For that kind of money, I'd probably go with SIDI or Northwave anyway.

I bought these from Nashbar about 1.5 years ago. After my second ride, I was kicking back with my buddies after a tough 10 mile ride in Tylers Mill. I was sitting on the ground with my legs outstretched and one of my buddies looks at my shoes with this stunned look on his face. Dude, your shoes are falling apart!. I couldn't friggin' believe it...the soles were crumbled and worn away. I have NEVER seen anything like it. I've been suffering with them since. The shoes were very comfortable and I like the concepts of the high top, it has protected my ankles on several occassions. Unfortunately, I never got around to returning them so, it's my fault. However, I will never buy Mtn. bike shoes from Nike again.

Date Reviewed: October 16, 1998
Bottom Line:

One thing can be said about these shoes, they fall apart. I still have the pair I bought two years ago and they do work, but my feet go numb soon after starting out on a ride after the gun goes off to begin the race. Soon after buying them the tread wore off and the cleats started moving around, you can't tighten them too much or you'll have problems and once they are tight you can't move them. If you chooses to move them you better make sure it's quite a distance or they will just move back to their original spot, the cleats leave a permanent indent in the sole and they slide back to the indent. As for the rest of the shoe, it's kinda stiff and that leather cover doesn't fit right.
Oh yeah, don't try to move around off the bike with these things, whether it be on slickrock or the local streets, the cleats aren't very recessed(especially after the tread wears off) and you will just slide around and make a loud clicking sound.

must be the under aged children had inferior materials when they made these! after 1 1/2 hears of light riding, the soles split in half. the tread seemed to hold up okay, and the uppers/straps are still intact. the design is a pain in the but, but they do hold your foot firmly. the thing i cannot get beyond, however, is the value. in comparing these shoes to others (especially specialized), the value just is on a different (lower) level. they may have mj, but nike should stay away from bicycling unless they're serious. i haven't been able to get an area shop to try and get some satisfaction from nike because i don't have my receipt. anyone know a number to reach nike for warranty?

Hmmm, disposible shoes, its kind of a neat concept, at least they won't get all smelly. I'd have to agree with the comments below. They're real narrow, but that's okay for me, I do have narrow feet (although I did have to goa size larger than usual). And those soles, they do seem to get disappear more and more each time I ride. But for $20 (I got them at a nike oulet store) I really can't complain. They may not last too long, but at that price it made it alot easier to take the plunge into the world of the clipless pedal.

Well it's been 1 month since I recv'd the replacement pair from NIKE and the sole material has been improved and not AS brittle as the privious material. The sole material does not crumble as before but is still susceptible to cuts.
It is a mute point since these are Manufacturer Discontinued anyway. I have to say I am going to go against the mainstream of opinion and still like the shoe a great deal. I will give them a 4 for Nike's fit and standing by their product.

Cheap shoes, and therefore, you get what you pay for.
Sole treads wear like wood if you need to walk on rocks.
Too narrow a fit.
Sole is too flexible.
The cross over strap on top is almost pointless.
Mud and water pours into these things through the cleat holes like a flood.
And the high top design is only cosmetic (no real support). The only good thing about these shoes is that they are light, very breathable, and did I mention they are cheap.AND
my sole is still intact, not split like the posts below.
This is probably because I used the cleat plates (that came with my Ritchey cleats) on the inside on the sole where the cleat screws clamp down. It does offer good reinforcement!Overall...
Buy these shoes only if you have no money left after buying a new bike, because you will buy a better pair anyway in the near future.

What ever you do... do not buy these shoes! They suck, I bought a pair because I liked the over the ankle style and I figured they would be good quality. Boy was I wrong... I rode about 4 times on these shoes over somewhat rocky terrain, and the tread basically disappeared! After the third ride, it looked like I was wearing slippers... there was no tread left on the soul of the shoe! I returned the shoes and got a pair of Specialized El Gato Sport's... less expensive... not over the ankle... but a year later they are still in great shape. Buy the Nike if you only ride twice in your life!

I wish I would have known about mtbr.com/reviews a bit earlier. I too had the soles deteriate, crumble and disappear. When I inquired about the problem at my LBS, they told me that if I called Nike they would replace them. SO... I called. They told me they know of the problem and have MD'd the shoe but not before attempting to correct the problem by getting rid of the composite (fibrous) sole with a new material. Nike offered to replace with a new model but I have been very satisfied with the fit and chose to try the Supa Pooh-bah again with the new sole material(NIKE has limited sizes left). I ride very rocky stuff 3-5 times a week and will know real fast if I need to replace them again. A follow up will be posted in a month. I have to give the shoe a 4. Nike has been more than helpful to keep me satisfied.

What can I say about the Nike Supa Puba - they are SUPER CRAP! They SUCK! I bought these shoes for about $100. I thought the leather lace cover would stretch a bit over time, but it didn't. It wouldn't ever close, and kept coming undone. The fit was okay because I tried them on in the store and bought 1 size larger. My biggest complaint, however, is that over the course of two races, all the lugs fell off the soles. ALL OF 'EM! The material is just too soft. I tried to get a replacement pair from Nike under some sort of warranty, but that was a while ago and I haven't heard from them yet. I am not expecting much. ANyway, if you try and return the shoes, you have to send them back and have them evaluated, a process that takes 6 - 8 weeks. What are you supposed to ride on in the mean time? I broke down and bought some Carnac Flites. Lighter. Stiffer. (more expensive). Oh well. If I had known that these Nike shoes were complete crap, I wouldn't have wasted $100 on these. And if anybody from Nike sees this, your products suck, and you customer service is pathetic. I hate you. THere is no pile of crap rating so I guess they get one star by default.

I have the Nike Pooh-Pa. Besides the Gay name they are pretty god shoes FOR THE PRICE. They wear out pretty fast and are a little flexy but for 50 bucks who cares. I Give it a 3

Nike sucks. They try to get into sports where they don't belong. They should learn to stay in the city. Damn city folk!

I had a pair of the Pooh-Bahs for about a year. The sole split at the
cleat mounting slots. Not the best shoes, but o.k. if you're just getting
started (also maybe if you can get a good deal on them). I now have a pair
of Sidi Dominators (which I've had for two years with NO problems whatsoever).

Shoes run narrow, hard on my feet, especially on a hot day. Bottom fell off after about one year. Still, not a bad shoe to get started in.

Bottom Line:

I have the Pooh-Bah (no Supa). I have fairly wide feet, and these seem to be a little narrow. They are also a pain to get on and off, yet they seem to loosen (or be loose) when I ride. My old Shimano shoes were much better.

Bottom Line:

These are my first pair of clipless shoes, and I haven't had much of a problem
adjusting from clips. However, the treads on the sole are falling off after only a few days of use. The comfort so far has been
good; my feet weren't even seriously uncomfortable after walking about 1.5 miles yesterday when I blew a tube (yes, the
tread problem started *before* this incident).

These shoes are a pair of crap! After 2 rides the lugs on the right shoe were 50% gone. The left had about 25% missing. The
lug material is TOO soft. I thought I was getting a bargain from Performance at $89.00 (reg. $109.00). Some bargain! The
Velcro flap doesn't stay put. Fit was okay, they do run 1 full size small, so i ordered the appropriate size. I am going to clean
out my wallet and get Sidi.

I cannot agree with you guys more. The cheap, soft rubber treads wore off when I was walking my bike from my room down the driveway. That all happened the first day. The fit and the securing (speed laces, velcro, strap) are great for my feet and the sole is stiff enough but the damn treads just come off.

I am very disappointed with the quality of these shoes! I have had them only four months and I am on my third pair. On my first ride with my Nikes the sole started deteriorating and this wasn't that big of a problem because I could still ride in them. Next, the strap anchor on the inside edge of the shoe ripped out and I didn't have much choice but to take them back. I got a new pair because it was still within the stores return period. The second pair I think I had two rides on and the plastic snap/buckle or whatever broke right down the middle. At this point I was just outside of the 90 day warranty period of the store but out of the kindness of their hearts(and the fact that they are kind of pissed at Nike about their shoes already) they gave me another pair. I can't wait to see what breaks on this pair! I think Nike should stick to running shoes...then again, I just sent a pair of those back too; they'll be back in four to six weeks/years who knows? Don't get screwed, maybe next year they'll make 'em a little better or at least tolerable! By the way I hope everyone else is having better luck with them than I am!
IMPORTANT: I would like to know of anyone else who has had problems, because I would like to get my money back. EMAIL me if you would!

Bottom Line:

This shoe has a great pedal to shoe contact, that makes even the worst(onza) pedals feel great. They have a much stiffer sole than the last two generations. The uppers are better looking too, as well as a better fit, BUT.... I have just received my second pair of these shoes from Nike. I had to return the first pair because the regrind sole was reground right off the shoe after only two rides. I have since put in about six rides on the new ones and the sole is starting to break away from the bottom. They will be going back soon.
