$30.00 | | Purchased At: | MTBR market | | Strengths: | Price, easy to get in and out of SPDs | | Weaknesses: | no ventilation, slick soles, slippery material inside | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized | | Bike Setup: | ? | | Bottom Line: | My dear old Secialized shoes finally died. I couldn't clip in and out any longer. The soles were twisted and mangled. I thought it was my pedals or cleats. Nope. I got these Nikes, and imediately noticed how superior they were in the clipless department. I can clip in and out with such ease. But, they have no mesh or vents in them, unlike my old Specialized did. My biggest gripe is the soles. They are hard, and slick. Even though I ride clipless pedals, I unclip to ride sketchy stunts, logs, etc. With my old shoes this worked great. The area behind the cleats was covered in a saft, rubber like materail and it gripped the pedals fine. Not the Nikes....I might as well be wearing ice skates. These shoes are useless until you clip in. I keep slippingand sliding all over, and off of my pedals. I will be buying something else, I don't like these at all. The inside of the shoe is made of nylon or something like neoprene, and is very slippery. No matter how tight you sinch them up, your heel slips. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I've had these for about 5 months and they've been fairly comfortable. I want to move to Look or Campy pedals, which will mean a move to Look or Campy cleats, and I'll probably try Sidi's if I do this. No regrets on these shoes though. Performance has them on sale right now for $40, which is a nice price for a decent cycling shoe. | Overall Rating: |

from Newport Date Reviewed: August 13, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Arcadia | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | lightweight clips in easily | | Weaknesses: | only lasted @20 rides | | Similar Products Used: | Shimano 109's I think Specialized Ground Control | | Bike Setup: | Kona Kilauaha ,Manitou 4 | | Bottom Line: | Nike was actually nice enough to send me a replacement pair after my bike shop sold these to me for $20 off and told me they'd be fine, but then refused to back them up after the blew up.My friends did not believe me when I told them the second pair would not last longer than 20 rides. Sure enough, the sole was shredded and peeled from the bottom plate. All around the toes, the material was torn. The strap holders also ripped off the shoe. You likely won't find these shoes around anymore (old model), but if you do, make sure you don't pay more than $20 more for them. Nike's got great marketing and great looking products, but the bottom line is, their shoes (basketball, running, mtn bike) suck! | Overall Rating: |
