Date Reviewed: June 30, 2006
Favorite Trail:any single track
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Scheels All Sports
Strengths:Comfortable and good to look at, can wear this in public
Weaknesses:Durability of fasteners
Bike Setup:Raleigh M80 frame, XT components..
Bottom Line:I've only taken these on a couple rides, they seem to perform well, although the fasteners seem to be sub-par... When I was trying them on in the store, a metal clip holding the velcro in place bent and fell out... So they knocked 100 bucks off the price as this was the last pair they had... Fixed it and rode them the next day... The other side's metal clip bent on the second ride... so I'm going to make my own and hope to get a couple seasons out of them... Judging based on the other reviews, they might not make it...

If you ride every day, I'd probably look elswhere, as these seem to lack in durablility... But if you ride a few times a week and nothing too extreme, these will hopefully fit the bill...

Strengths:history of proven products
Weaknesses:the rubber didn't weld to the plastic sole.
Similar Products Used:nike yuha, sidi
Bike Setup:cannondale hardtail
Bottom Line:this is the Nike MTB shoe called KATO. this is the 3rd pair of nike MTB shoes i've owned. the upper is really well made, but the rubber and plastic sole delaminated way too early. i only got about two seasons out of them and the split in the rubber ripped all the way to the two causing a frustrating fix on the trail. i tried JB Weld and epoxie, but didn't work. rough trail portage is what caused this, but still, in my book, it's a manufacturers defect, so i'll inspect my next pair well before keeping them.

Strengths:considerably stiff sole, excellent ventilation, snug fit, good cleat clearance, aesthetically pleasing to the eye
Weaknesses:none found yet...
Similar Products Used:nope...this is my first clipless
Bike Setup:gary fisher supercaliber carbon fiber hardtail, mostly xtr stuff, shimano 747 pedals, slick tyres
Bottom Line:This is my first pair of clipless shoe, the Nike Kato 2... and for the cheapest, decent SPD shoe one the market, they suit my budget very well. During the initial breaking in period, it a bit of a tight fit, but after the first few rides, it feels great.
Excellent energy transfer, comfortable, with excellent ventilation...wish I had moved up to clipless sooner...didn't know what i was missing.
5 roasted chilis for value and quality..
not on par with the big boys at shimano and sidi, but if you're a weekend rider, looking to up your cycling performance...this shoe is great ^_^

Date Reviewed: October 31, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:LBS Full Cycle
Strengths:Had a decent sole for those times when you have to walk. I liked these shoes if only they would last longer than a few rides.
Weaknesses:Went through two pairs in about one year, less than two ridding seasons. The sole cracks and detaches from the shoe. Poor quality.
Bike Setup:spd pedals
Bottom Line:These shoes for the most part suck. They are poorly manufactured and did not last more than one season, that's two pair. My first pair self-destructed after about a dozen rides. The local bike shop graciously replaced them. Well it happened again. The second pair broke down during my last lap at a 24-hour race. I tried to un-cleat and the bottom of the shoe broke off and stuck to the pedal leaving a big hole in the bottom of my shoe. Not good.

I would like these shoes if Nike could figure out how to put some quality in them.

Bottom Line:Just wanted to add another warning that these shoes are not made for hard-core biking or use in rough, rocky terrain. The soles broke and separated from the shoes around the cleats with only a couple months of use! This has happened with 2 separate pairs of shoes, on both the left and right sides. I thought I was getting a deal on a good pair of shoes, but should have known better. Nike does not specialize in biking shoes.

Date Reviewed: April 3, 2003
Favorite Trail:Middle Run, DE
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $65.00
Purchased At:Cycle Fit of Delaware County
Strengths:High enough to cover, protect & support the ankle
Good tread on the sole for good grip when off the bike
Very little flex in the sole so no power is lost
Weaknesses:None so far
Similar Products Used:Pearl Izumi low cuts with 661 ankle biters
Bike Setup:Trek 8000 LT, Judy racing fork, Hayes hydraulic Discs
Bottom Line:I'm a beginning off road triathlete whose main gig is endurance riding so I have to get off the bike to get around some obsticals more often than a regular X Country rider & I need a good tread. I also roll my ankles easily & just came off a 6 week torn ligament rehab so I needed to find a shoe with extra support around my ankles. These shoes with 661 ankle biters give me all of that (though they would have been fine by themselves).
Yeah the size thing was a pain but my regular bike shop kicks butt when it comes to making sure that I get the right thing for my riding & that I am completely satisfied. As anyone who downhill skis knows; the most important thing that you can do is get the right fit for your boot before you buy the skis, otherwise you might as well just burn the money you spend in the fire place. Its the same with your bike shoes. I tried on several different kinds before buying these. Shoes aren't like bike components.
If you need a shoe that can handle a bike riding adventure, this might be for you.

Weaknesses:The shoe broke at the back of the cleat cutout and pinched the piss out of my foot. You would think a company as big as Nike could make a shoe that would not break after a year of rideing.
Bike Setup:GT I drive, Hayes disk brakes, Mavic disk only rims with XT hubs, Crank Brothers pedals, XT XTR
Bottom Line:The shoe fit nice, had to go big. The shoe has a short life span if you ride your bike. Get a pair of thies if you have a garage ornament and put them on the shelf next to the bike, that is all the are good for.

Purchased At:Fulham, London
Strengths:Laces and 2 velco straps, good grip (not great but good), very stiff sole. Colour is more relaxed compared to the crazy colours on many europeans brands
Weaknesses:Nothing major, only problems came with wear and tear (2 yrs plus). No great in the wet, will let in water around the cleats. Final death came when the plate for the cleat separated from the shoe and stayed in the pedal - not good
Similar Products Used:None - first clipless shoe, but I'm hunting for another nike replacement. Why is the nike website so badly designed - where is the cycle shoe section?
Bike Setup:SPDs - its a shoe review not life history

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Ebay
Strengths:Looks great. (And, will likely stay that way because I can't wear them.)
Weaknesses:Sizing!? I have worn Nikes for years and I always take an 8.5 so, why is a size 9 Inyo Low waaaaay too small?
Similar Products Used:Several major brands.
Bike Setup:Rocky Mountain Blizzard, XT; see www.bikes.com for description if you are actually interested :-)
Bottom Line:I don't think I will be able to adequately test these shoes because of the massive, unforgivable, error on Nike's part regarding sizing. I can understand, although vaguely, sizing differences between manufacturers but sizing this different between models from the same manufacturer is just plain stupid. I am not saying: "Don't buy this shoe" but I am saying: "Try it on before you buy it!" There is one other post here that says the same thing. I wish I would have seen it earlier. I guess some things shouldn't be purchased by mail. Live and learn ;-)

Strengths:Comfy, looks good.
Weaknesses:Weak fasteners and the sole broke.
Similar Products Used:Diadora, Specialized, Shimano, Sidi
Bottom Line:These shoes had a defective sole. When I tried to warrenty the shoes after having them only several months Nike just runs you around in circles on the phone with computers. I got info on where to mail them for warrenty and they sent me a form letter saying that the shoes had been manufactured before a certain date and that the warrenty was void. Since the shoes were relatively new, they must have sat in a warehouse for to long or something. Basically, NIKE DOES NOT WARRENTY THIER PRODUCTS!! so buy a shoe from a company that does.

Strengths:Comfortable after modification, reasonable ventilation, you can walk in them!
Weaknesses:Idiotic stiched in tongue.
Bottom Line:They looked like the perfect combination of usable boot and they had clips. After pissing around with the sizes in the shop I found the correct fitting.

But then I tried to use them, ouch the pain! It turned out that the tongue had been stiched in. This is only something that you do when you need water proofing, which given the ventilation holes is meaningless on these boots.

After unpicking the stiching they suddenly became sooooo comfortable.

I have wide feet and having tried every size in the shop actually find the fit to be rather good. If I couldn't but boots like this I wouldn't have clips!

Bottom Line:Several problems so far and I haven't even gotten these out on the trail yet. I got these through mail-order because there's nothing like them at any LBSs around here.First of all, the sizing is way screwed up. I normally wear a (US) size 11 and I had to order the Nikes in size 13.5 for them to fit properly (they don't use the European sizing). True, most shoe manufacturers will vary by a half or even a whole size, but 2.5 sizes? By the self-proclaimed shoe 'gods' at Nike? Come on.After a few wasted weeks of shipping back & forth to get the right size I finally got a pair that fit. The next problem was the recessed area on the outsole (where the cleat bolts in); it was located up so far above the lugs that my cleats won't reach the clip mechanism on the pedal. I'm currently trying to find/order some spacers from my LBS and maybe this will solve the problem. No spacers or cleats were provided with the shoes. The Inyos look like they're designed and built well, and they don't look like typical bike shoes. I'll post another review if they make up for it in terms of performance, but right now they're really sucking the fun out of clipless pedaling.

I have the RED ones that list price is $120 (there seems to be a couple of different AGCs). I had them since May '98. I have a very narrow foot, (a 'B' width in the US) but these shoes are loose in the front. The next size smaller was not long enough and my toe would jam in the front.Anyway, these being my first shoe, I
Like:
-Stiff sole.
-Shoe breaths very well. My foot has never been too hot in them.
-Come with cleats in front (although I don't use them because there is a lot of rock here and it make them more slippery
Dislike:
-Very heavy compared to others in the same price rance.
-Water does not drain very well. I have to turn my foot over to pour the water out after a water crossing. My next pair will be a lighter shoe that will drain better. I want something on my feet that will feel like a sneaker with a very stiff sole.

Not being biased in anyway, I've found these to be highly comfortable (walking!! & biking). Easy on the wallet. And very good looking (gray/black). Must admit these Nike's have surprised me. I too was looking for a moderately priced cross-country shoe and stopped in at the local MEC to check out their wares...this one fit price wise and comfort wise....they do fit a little tight and I would suggest to buy a 1/2 size larger than usual even though you expect them to stretch with wear. I wear a dri-fit sock and they're still snug but remain comfortable...I've slipped and taken full soakers but these puppies keep ticking..can't even tell your feet are wet! Could traction on stuff you can't climb in the saddle. If anything the sole could be a bit stiffer but hey for 100$ Canadian what can I expect...good shoe..good buy...good luck!

I purchased some gray Nike Inyos about a month ago and I have been very happy with them. The first few days with them were not pleasant though. The front of the shoe seemed way to tight, and it obviously was because I got a blister or two. Fortunately, I was able to fix the problem by getting the shoe wet and using one of those wooden things that are used to keep the shape of leather shoes along with some marbles to stretch the tight parts to a comfortable extent. The result? An awesome shoe at a nice price. The aspect of optional lacing is great too, and they don't look like red, yellow, and green clown shoes. 1 star during the tight period, but I'm giving them 5 because I love them so much now.

than my normal size in Nike footware. I have short feet but they're
not narrow. Buying the large size shoe was the right move because they
fit perfectly without any discomfort. They are easliy tightened with

this product is good. it is a stiff, aggressive soled shoe. unfortunately with Nike's odd sizing specs, and the narrow width of the shoe, it is very uncomfortable for abotu the first 200 miles in the shoe on the protrusions on both sides of the foot. excrutiatingly painful. if you get this shoe, don't plan on going mountainbiking for a while. i have found that it is best to ride these shoes on the road first to get them good and broken in, and then and only then should you dare to take them off road. sorry guys, they are great now, but a big pain in the beginning.

Two rides on these babies and there stiff as a......well i dontknow but there stiff! There real comfortable, blue and yellow, have toe cleats, laces and velcro.they clean up real easy too!I also like the extra traction thats given just in case you have to get off your bike. The soles are a hard rubber that will not wear as quick as some softer sole shoes.happy trails, greg

Bottom Line:

These shoes are great because they are very comfortable and they look cool. I bought these shoes
last summer and used them about 5 times a week and they held up perfect. these shoes have been in
rivers, mud holes, swamps, and gravel hills and there is not one sign of a rip. I recommend these
shoes to anyone who wants a good mountain bike shoe that will last.
