$299.00 | | Strengths: | Price, handling, CROMOLY, solid reliability. | | Weaknesses: | Weight, brakes, minimalist front suspension (RST 260). | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 4000 and other sub-$1,000 ATBs. | | Bike Setup: | I'm running slicks instead of knobbies, and added a suspension seatpost and bar ends. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike if you don't want to spend megabucks, like to mix road and trail, enjoy turning the heads of veteran cyclists who recognize the legendary Motobecane name, and want to feel fairly confident you'll meet no one else riding the same bike.
I've put 5,000 mixed miles on the thing (including some pretty gnarly trails) and had only one repair -- a rebuilt bottom bracket for 19 bucks. All in all, I've gotten more than my money's worth out of it and it's still going strong.
The front suspension ain't much (just better than nothing) and downhills can get hairy with the weak front brakes. But I'd rather have it than any bike in its price range, and plenty that are considerably pricier. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

| | Weaknesses: | shocks weight components | | Bottom Line: | a good bike for the price. could have better components and shocks. certain components are steel, and this contributes to the weight. buy this bike if you are a beginner, and upgrade it as you get better. I have a 97 model but is virtually the same as the 00. 5 flamin pickles for value, 3 for overall. one of the only bikes in its range that is cromoly and has front shox. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
