Strengths:Shimano Alivio system,Shimano Cranks,Strong Frame,good wheels,enough good fork for me.
Weaknesses:Promax brakes.I think it is the worse thing in this bike.
Crank is near ground,so sometimes it hits liying trees or something.
Bike Setup:Shimano Alivio system,Shimano Cranks,Suntour XCM Fork,Promax mechanical brakes,Alexrims TD24...
Bottom Line:I have this bike for 1 year and the only one problem - promax mechanical brakes. It's not a problem, but i want better brakes,so need to upgrade.Overall im doing everything i want with this bike and, after year,no problem :)

Submitted by The Shadow a Weekend Warrior from Gold Coast, Australia
Date Reviewed: May 17, 2009
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $400.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:The SRAM X.5 gearing, being a first time user of SRAM, I heard a lot of bad things over the years and had been Shimano loyal, however I have to say I will be sticking with SRAM from now on. The bike has a great feel to the frame, responds very well.
Weaknesses:Promax cable disc brakes. Mongoose handlebars are just too wide. Mongoose dual density grips are terrible. Mongoose platform pedals straight from a BMX. Kenda Komodo tyres that are just shocking.
Similar Products Used:Giant Yukon, Giant Alias, GT Avalanche 1.0, Norco and Apollo rigs.
Bike Setup:2008 model: Black.
Tires: 26x1.95 Michelin Wild Gripper Pro - UPGRADE.
Wheelset: Alex TD24 double wall, Alloy QR 32H hubs.
Frame: Flat top tube, All Mountain 6061 Alloy.
Headset: Ritchey.
Crankset: FSA Alpha Drive.
Bottom Bracket: FSA cartridge.
Chain: KMC Z-9200.
Stem: Mongoose alloy 31.8mm x 110mm.
Pedals: Crank Brothers Candy C - UPGRADE.
Handlebar: Rafe Face, Ride 31.8mm x 610mm - UPGRADE.
Seatpost: Mongoose alloy with micro adjust clamp.
Grips/Tape: Profile Design - UPGRADE.
Levers: Hayes Nine XC hydraulic - UPGRADE.
Brakes: Hayes Nine XC hydraulic disc 160mm F&R - UPGRADE.
Fork: SR/Suntour XCM DA 100mm hydraulic adjust & lock out.
Front Derailleur: SRAM X.5.
Cassette: Shimano 8-speed cassette.
Rear Derailleur: SRAM X.5.
Shifters: SRAM X.5 24 speed.
Saddle: WTB Pure V Sport.
Bottom Line:Once upgraded and kitted out with bar ends, computer, cages, etc. the bike is great, rides well, shifts clean, good for light cross country duties, suspension requires a little play to get it set up without a lot of rebound, but after a year of daily rides this is a nice bike that has performed well. Good solid machine, however the Promax brakes will not stop you in a hurry, so an upgrade is a good option. I have also read about parts come loose and snap, never had this issue and I am not the lightest rider. I would recommend this bike, having said this I spent a few dollars on upgrades to get a product that I liked. I will be buying another Mongoose, I will step up to a higher spec model without fail.

Strengths:Great bike easy ride. Looks good. Not too much of a strain even when going up hill. Comfortable and really fun to ride
Weaknesses:Brakes a little too good sometimes. e.g when going really fast and having to brake suddenlly you can be thrown forwards if you aren't careful.
Bottom Line:Best bike I've ever owned. Great ride off and on road.

Purchased At:Berggren
Strengths:Good pedals, average seat, gears and frame, and looks :D
Weaknesses:Brakes (Tektro IO) suck, the fork (spinner griad os) sucks. the stem is too long. and the bike is also pretty heavy. :S
Similar Products Used:Tunturi Duke, Kuwahara Muddy stone 3
Bike Setup:Better FCF stem and lightened alot parts (made RAW)
Bottom Line:Its a GooD quality bike that is good if you are a 60 year old grandfather that only drives from home to work. but if you are a young you do XC and DH its not good enought.

Submitted by Scott a Weekend Warrior from Central Coast, Australia
Date Reviewed: May 30, 2007
Favorite Trail:Ourimbah State Forest
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $480.00
Purchased At:Central Coast Cycles
Strengths:Excellent value for money for beginers. Disc brakes, Double walled rims, Decent suspension (2007 model here, different suspension from previous models), Solid frame.
Weaknesses:Had problems with the brakes, had the calipers replaced but it turned out to be the rotors. They pulsed very badly, really noticable when braking with speed. Had them changed over and now they are fine. Although the LBS said they haven't had that issue before with this particular bike...
Similar Products Used:None, Newbie
Bike Setup:Stock except for better rotors
Bottom Line:This was one of the better value for money bikes for a beginer i could find. I'll probably keep it for a year or so and then move on to a FS when i get my skills up. 2007 Model Recommended.

Favorite Trail:sweat trail
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $700.00
Purchased At:spin city cycles
Strengths:wedgie seat (CRAP)
Weaknesses:cranks loosen easily just by pedaling, spinner grindos forks are absolute crap they bottom out easily of 1 foot drops and tiny jumps. the forks on this bike decrease your riding performance. they arnt even suitable for riding to the shops and over tiny rocks.
Similar Products Used:repco duke and even that was better!!!
Bike Setup:i upgraded absolutly everything.
Bottom Line:now the bike rules except for the frame which i snapped yesterday.

do not buy this bike unless you plan on spending thousands to upgrade to make it ridable.

I rated this bike five overall because i spent $2500 on it and it was pretty good then. This is why i only gave it one star value rating because i spent $700 dollars on something i could have got from toyworld.
