Favorite Trail:cherry hinton chalk pits
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $130.00
Purchased At:bought off some guy at one of the american air bases in east anglia
Strengths:good light frame
nice steering
Weaknesses:suspension not the best!
Bike Setup:vuelta airline 1 wheels,
rest standard, RST 281s, shimano undershifters, etc
Bottom Line:got it for a good price and my A50 could well be the only one in the country.
wheres an MGX website?
planning to upgrade wheels again to lighter QR airlines,
hydraulic V brakes, new shimano undershifters and better front suspension.
Good for city use and lighter weekend fun, but dont do anything too hardcore without upgrading the suspension!

Favorite Trail:Bukit Timah Nature Reserve
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Cheap Johns
Strengths:Solid Frame structure with standard geometry.
Weaknesses:Original components was a mix of LX 98 (8-speed) and STX-RC, which made the bike heavy.
Similar Products Used:I use to own cheap Chromoly (no brand) bikes.
Bike Setup:A MGX A-60 frame with full LX Components, Flight Deck, Manitou SX 99 Shocks, Mavic Wheels with Bontrager Tires, CT2 MonkeyBars.
Bottom Line:I've seen a lot of action with this bike. It make for good control once you get use to it. It goes to show that even cheaper bikes, when decked out with good components can perform just as well. It's a pity there are no websites on the MGX series of bikes.

Favorite Trail:anything Holiday Valley
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $300.00
Strengths:Uhhhh, it came with wheels, looks decent. A pretty good bike for someone who doesn't do anything too hardcore. This was a good bike considering that I was 13 and had no money.
Weaknesses:You get what you pay for. The RST fork that came stock on it only had any travel on a 2ft or greater dropoff.
Similar Products Used:Uh....this was my first non-Huffy, but now I have a different bike.
Bike Setup:GT Avalanche frame, lx components, avid disc brake, manitou fork, wtb wheelset
Bottom Line:This is a great first mountain bike, but it's only that. I've gradually rebuilt it to turn it into a respectable bike. If you're still stuck with this bike, switch the frame, then the wheelset so that you can get disc brakes. I couldn't believe how much better discs are than Pro Max V brakes. Or, as soon as you get enough money, sell this on eBay and get a GT, you'll be glad that you did.

Favorite Trail:Metroparks and Alpine Valley
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:Dick's Sporting Goods
Strengths:Light orange aluminum frame with a qualiuty Awnser/Manitou fork
Weaknesses:Components! I never would of bought this bike if it wasnt 150$ the tek-tro components are very cheap especailly the derailuers. I am working towards and Lx drive train and have almost replaced all the old components wit shimano LX/XT
Similar Products Used:Ummmmmmmmmmmmmm... i had a huffy before this
Bike Setup:MGX A-60 frame ( i dont know the dif between A-50 and A-60) with a manitou fork
Bottom Line:This is a great bike for the price i bought it foe but its not worth the 500$ reatil because the components are 2 cheap! only three value chillis because the components but 4 for the overall cause the bike gets the job done

Date Reviewed: January 8, 2000
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Strengths:
great frame, shocks ,tires and brakes. handles well, easy to ride, can take it all. great paint job in orange
Weaknesses:
gears, they are ok but not smooth at all.. due to the odd angle of the frame it does not sit well on my bike rack which is the kind that straps to the trunk.
Bike Setup:
mongoose A 60, manitou answer
Bottom Line:this is a great bike, but I actually have an mgx A60, whats the difference btw A50 and A60? also how many did they make of these bikes, I have yet to see anyone else with my bike.

Favorite Trail:
any
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Strengths:
Solid frame and with the supplied Manatou shock it's a great buy.
Weaknesses:
The drivetrain components could have been better.
Similar Products Used:
Trek, K2, GT, Raleigh
Bike Setup:
Originally equipped components. (Tek-Pro, Answer Manatou)
Bottom Line:Bottom line is this is a great bike. For the price you pay you get a very solid aluminum frame and shock. Woth the cost in just the frame and shock. The only complaint is the original components used are a little shaky. The frame and shock are strong and I have since upgraded to XT drivetrain components and Bontrager Mustang wheels. I still use the original brakes though. Great bike that will last a while. Frame is indestrucable.

Bottom Line:Well, I love my Mongoose MGX a-50, but I can't find any websites on this bike or any other MGX series bikes. Not a SINGLE website on MGX bikes by mongoose, I've searched everywhere. Mongoose's website doesn't even have it. No one knows about MGX except us who have the MGX bikes. Can somebody tell me where to find info on my bike.
