$550.00 | | Purchased At: | local dealer | | Strengths: | Very durable. fairly lightweight. Good rims. | | Weaknesses: | Bottom bracket went bad right away. Many of the parts do not seem to be 'upgradable'. | | Similar Products Used: | This was my first bike | | Bike Setup: | All stock parts | | Bottom Line: | I bought this bike new in 1998, it was my first mountain bike. I'm a pretty big guy (220lbs) and I don't ride lightly. This bike has held up extremely well. I usually put in about 10-20 miles/week, all on local trails. Last month, Feb-02, I finally replaced the cassette, chain, and rings...not because they broke, but I just wore them out.
If you are just getting into mountain biking, this is a good starter bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$365.00 | | Purchased At: | eBay | | Strengths: | Lightweight sturdy frame. Good entry level mountain bike. | | Weaknesses: | Crank and brakes went bad after 1 years use. Not a very depedable bike | | Similar Products Used: | Mongoose DX 3.1 | | Bike Setup: | Bar ends, speedemer, alivio, stuff | | Bottom Line: | I'm a little dissapointed at the fact that the brakes and the crank have gone bad after less than a year. It's a nice riding bike, but not too durable. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$400.00 | | Purchased At: | Pins Cycles | | Strengths: | As I ride a Mongoose DX 6.7, (I have ridden many dx 6.5's) I can say that both bikes are great value for money, the main difference is that the 6.7 has better components (rock shox indy c on 6.7 vs indy s on 6.5). I have also heard that the 6.7 is a longer bike. unsure if it is.
The 6.7 has travelled over 18,000 km and still going strong. | | Weaknesses: | 6.7 Suffers 'Chain Suck' on original sprockets. | | Similar Products Used: | DX 5.5 DX 6.5 DX 6.7 | | Bike Setup: | Mongoose DX 6.7 | | Bottom Line: | Recommend the DX 6.7 overall (for an extra NZ$200.00 it is worth it) | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
