Strong Frame, wicked shape, very rigid.

At first i used it mainly for xc, but as the years went by my skills got a little better and used it more for urban thrashing....
One thing I'm pissed off at is the fact that cheapo versions of this frame are turning up in the current mongoose line up... and they're S$&T and they're calling them mongoose pro's... what a load of crap!!!!!! v. embarassing, but this thing is way tougher... just look at the size of that down tube....

| | Bike Setup: | Frankenbike- Comp SX with a Judy DH, Magura Rim Brakes, mismatched components. | | Bottom Line: | This is a sweet frame for those of us who don't want to clean out our bank accounts buying a bike. It's light and performs very well, which makes up for the fact that your'e riding a Mongoose. I take mine over some pretty gonzo terrain and it rides beautifully. Has also survived some pretty vicious crashes. I put a long stem and an 85 mm fork on mine and it seems to match the geometry pretty well. Buy one of these if you can find one.

Manitou spyder | | Bottom Line: | I rented this bike in San Diego for a weak. The frame is designed with great standover clearance that both inspires confidence and gives a good center of gravity around the bottom bracket making this a very nimble handling bike. This is especially noticeable over technical sections of trail. The components on the particular bike I rode were lower end so I wasnt thrilled about the specs. Bought a Goose Comp SX for $275 to use as an occasional urban bike, mostly because I had a bunch of decent spares lying in a box after upgrading my Jamis. What a bonus....this little bike really does the job. Screw being an urban bike, I take it anywhere my Jamis goes. Well yeah, I sometimes forget it's a hardtail and give my nads a rattling over rough terrain.....but it IS a quick and nimble bike. Of course, I have ended upgrading this puppy too....it deserves it. BTW the paint job is first rate, although I suspect grown-ups would rather have the host of decals ABOVE the clearcoat so that they can be removed..!! | | Overall Rating: |

My 1997 mongoose compsx is an execellent bike for the price. For such a low price you get a light cross country racer ready for action out of the box.And with an upgrade here and there any one could be unstopable on this bike. Also the weight of this bike is just great, I have picked up many bikes worth quite cosiderably more dollers than my compsx and my bike is still lighter. For the XC warrior on a budget or with some upgrades in mind, this bike is the best. | | Overall Rating: |

This bike handles nicely both on climbs and on downhills. It is light and responsive. I have upgraded the components to XTR and XT with Mavic 517 rims and Double Fighters. Lately I have started racing and cannot fault the performance of this bike. My frame is going on three years old and I am about to replace it. | | Overall Rating: |

I bought a CompSX 2yrs ago and threw on complete XT front to back. This bike kicked ass!! Super light, great in tight technical stuff, and super fast going up. Five screaming hot chilis. In my opinion this is a very lite and fast MTB, its a very fast shifter, and the only thing i would change is the brake system for an Shimano XTR.
If your gonna spend the money, and you want a hard tail get a Mongoose Comp SX

very lite bike good parts,fast on cross country trials. makes you want
to ride all day.some parts need upgraded but a great bike out of the box
if i had to buy another bike it would be a mongoose for sure. eats up the hills.
i added gripshifts in stead of rapided fires its just because i like them
better and fast to use.

The best. It's very stiff, very fast, and very light. If you have the chance to get, or even ride one of these babies, don't pass it up! And Mongoose has a lifetime warranty on all there frames, and they are the best when it comes to replacing your broken frame. Get Mongoose.
