from Bowdoinham, Maine, USA Date Reviewed: August 26, 2001 | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Strengths: | Full suspension is the way to go. Quality components everywhere you look. | | Weaknesses: | Smaller rear suspension triangle; chain beats heck out of the chainstay.
Water Bottle holder in a bad spot (tire spray hits bottle), but I have a camle pack and use the holder for light batteries anyway.
Standard brakes require constant adjustment. | | Bike Setup: | Standard except: Continetal Traction rear tire Panaracer Fire XC Pro Mud Front tire Shimano XT Hydralic front Disc Brake | | Bottom Line: | All and all a very nice bike. The formula MD1 Mechanical discs are very time consuming and difficult to adjust, however they provide reasonable power when they are working. Luckly this bike comes with avid speed dial levers that allow you to adjust your leverage and cable tension on the fly easily. However this did bother me, so I got the XT hydralic discs, which by they way are very worth it and highly recomended. The IRC Notus tires provided an acceptable ammount of traction and I was very happy with them. They were very light tires aswell, the only downside being they wore quickly. I only replaced the tires because the IRCs wore out after about 1000 miles.
Great bike. Period. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Charlotte, NC, US Date Reviewed: August 5, 2000 | | Favorite Trail: | Catawba Riverfront Park | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Great components This is a great bike for the price $1100. Handles great and really smoothes out the hits... | | Weaknesses: | Cheap Seat and the tires are too narrow. | | Similar Products Used: | Giant XTC DS2 | | Bike Setup: | SID 100, Fox float, XT components and WTB parts. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike for the money. The frame seems to be solidly built. This bike rides great with very little pedal bob... The components make this bike. With Rock Shox SID 100, Fox Float and XT components its hard to beat. I would definatly recomend this bike to anyone. I'm sure some of you are thinking "Mongoose". This Goose is OK...

from Bangkok, Thailand Date Reviewed: June 7, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | Less than 1 month | | Strengths: | Best Spec in that price range (1,200$ in thailand) | | Weaknesses: | A bit of heavy, Grip is Suck and tire(IRC Notos)is too small andwear faster than you think! | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized FSR Enduro'98, Specialized FSR-XC'00, | | Bike Setup: | Stock except Tire(change to Michelin Wildgripper hot-S) Shifter&derailleur(From LX to XTR) Pedal(From Time Alium to Shimano636
| | Bottom Line: | For this price(1,200US$ in thailand). This bike is Strong in parts. R/S Sid100 & Fox Float Soked up the bump verywell (much better than my previous FSR Ground control'98) and not make a pedal effect to much. Formula Cable disc is not great but you can accept this.
Mongoose Try to save weight by used lightweight parts likes Shimano XT hollowtech and IRC Notos1.95. But this bikes must me better when you choose the fatter tire. I change it to Michelin Hot-S and very pleased with this combo. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
