Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:Chain Reaction Cycle
Strengths:Great grip, continous tread, fairly light.
Weaknesses:Not the lightest, not the greatest after large use on tarmac
Similar Products Used:Maxxis Highroller, some Contis
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz XC, Fox F120 RLC, Truvativ 3.3 Stylo OCT, Mavic 819 w/ Hope pro II hubs DT Swiss spokes, SRAM X9 Drivetrain, Easton Monkeylite CF riser bars, Thompson Elite w/ Fizik Gobi XM.
Bottom Line:First off let me say that I do not believe this tire would be good mounted on the back wheel. I have seen some bikes with it on the rear, it doesnt provide an optimal tread pattern for a rear tire.

That said, these things are beasts on the front! The lateral grip you get on these tires are amazing. You can push harder and faster into the corners. They have a very wide tread patter (2.3 UST model mounted) and they work very very well! They have a very sturdy sidewall, and provide a lot of confidence!

My current configuration for tires is Maxxis Ignitor LUST 2.3 front and Maxxis Larson TT UST 2.0 rear and it seems to be a pretty solid setup for AM/XC. They are not the lightest tire on the market but they do provide tons of grip and last a long time! I am going to change over the rear to a Crossmark UST 2.25 for a rear to see how that combination works, but I am sold on the Ignitor LUST, they perform great, just not meant for tarmac (road) at all.

Strengths:Good low rolling resistance, descent traction when ran low psi
Weaknesses:durability and braking. Ran in the rear the braking is just OK, not as good as other designs from WTB. Skinny tire for a 2.35
Similar Products Used:continental, wtb wolverine (non us, nevegals
Bike Setup:2010 BLTc, king hs/hubs on 819's, XO
Bottom Line:these tires are good for XC, roll well and accelerate nicely. But not good for all mountain or rock gardens if your bombing. I blew a hole in the middle of the tread on my first ride on anything that could be considered all mountain (culvert trail at Auburn). Would be good race tires for XC. But I'm going to something else for the fall/winter all mountain goodness. Maybe back to nevegals as I miss the braking power with those and the width.

Strengths:Tubeless, pretty light.
Weaknesses:Pretty skinny for a 2.35 and doesn't grip as well as the previous Nevegal 2.35 I was running. Recently rode at a ski resort with some rocky and technical downhill with some wet spot. This tire didn't brake worth a dang when it got a little slick or wet...it would just skid. Definitely would prefer more tread on the back and a wider tire for very aggressive riding.
Bottom Line:Not my favorite tire. Needs to be wider and not enough grip for my taste.

Strengths:low rolling resistance
good braking
lots of grab in wet, rooty, rocky loose trail
Weaknesses:I paid too much
Similar Products Used:panafire xc
Bike Setup:2002 specialized stumpjumper ht
Bottom Line:I'm writing this review after taking the tires out once. I ride in the wissahickon (b/c it is in my backyard)- this year it has rained so much that everything is eroded and washed out- you largely have loose technical uphills b/c of all the rain. I bought this tire after the sidewalls on my panafire busted. It has rained for three days (5 inches in that time) and I took these out for the first time. I'm using a 2.1 on my back wheel. They consistently preformed better than my panafires in my usual trouble spots. Where I was usually spinning out on a dry day... I was hooking up with these on a wet slippery day. This tire is like old jenny smith from highschool... she hooked up with everyone and these tires provided great traction whenever I pushed the pedal down.

run these tires low and you'll be happy. Use in loose rooty conditions.
If you like panafires - these are better- lower rolling resistance and great traction.

Strengths:
This review is for the 2.1 LUST version.
This tyre is an all rounder. It does everything fairly well and it is very hard to find a tyre that will tick as many boxes as this one.
Very robust. One puncture (it was one hell of a thorn) that sealed with Stans.
Rolls very well. Much better than you would expect given it's profile.
Easy to go tubless with Stans strip and fluid on a 717 mavic rim.
Durable. Lasted for most of a summer on hardpack. Will probably do for some of next summer.
Good for braking. I was using a Crosmark on the rear so if I needed braking traction on anything wet or loose it had to go through the Ignitor.
Weaknesses:I expected this to be a bigger volume tyre.
It holds wet clay for a long time before clearing. Much longer than the Crossmark on the rear.
Despite the LUST sidewalls, UST tyres do not run as fast as normal tyres with thinner sidewalls converted to tubless.
Similar Products Used:Bontrager Mud X 2.0, Panaracer Fire XC Pro
Bike Setup:GT Zaskar with cross country set up; Magura Durin forks, Easton Monkey bar, XT kit.
Bottom Line:The thick sidewalls, smallish volume and centre tread give a quick steering feel which reminded me of a Onza Porcupine in the '90s.
This tyre would be my choice for a summer enduro ride where I did not know the course or terrain.

I ran this tyre for most of the summer at 35psi which was 'OK'
The day when I forgot to pump my tyres they rolled slightly faster but cornering and braking was MUCH better. I checked pressure when I got home (with an SKS instrument) and I had been running 29 pounds.

Strengths:Light
Weaknesses:Blisters, Tire drifts and is narrow for a 2.35
Similar Products Used:none...switched to Hutchinson
Bike Setup:08 Turner RFX, Fox 36, Mavic XM819 w/Hope Pro2
Bottom Line:Here is the deal. These tires are light, roll fast, lack side bite but are predictable. The problem I have with them is that I started to notice bubbles or blisters on my frt tire on one side only. These bubbles varied in size but I was uneasy about leaving this tire on the frt of my bike. The rear tire had no issues at all. I contacted Maxxis via e-mail and inquired if it was a reaction to the Stan's sealant I used...2 weeks later I get a reply directing me to a phone number for their warranty dept. I left 2 voice mails and have not gotten a reply in 3 weeks. I have always used Maxxis tires for my DH rig and loved them but I must say that I am truly disappointed with Maxxis over this issue. If I screwed the tire because of the Stans just say so and post something on your site like Kenda does.

Strengths:Seals very easily using Stans kit. Agressive enough for tough uphill single speed grinds. Long life.
Weaknesses:Expensive and getting slightly difficult to find in the 2.1.
Similar Products Used:Easier to tell you I haven't tried Michelins or Tiogas. Thats about it.
Bike Setup:Kelly Deluxe SS with Fox 80RLC Mavic hoops and Avid brakes.
Bottom Line:These are great tires if you want to put one tire on your bike and ride varied terrain. They are easy to seal and very durable. I had no flats or issues until they were a year old and I punctured them with glass 15 min. before a race start. That could happen to any tire though. I sealed the hole with super glue, raced and continued to ride that tire for another 5 months before it was to worn to grip well anymore. I would say that these tires are the best I have ridden in loose over hardpack trail conditions, but honestly preform well under many scenarios. If you can afford them, I would highly recommend these tires for all levels of riding.

Bottom Line:I only use as a front tire (2.35")and I have yet to have it wash out. I use a Specialized Captain Control 2Bliss 2.0" in the rear. Perhaps because the other two I've tried have poor performance, but this is a great front tire for both my bikes. Holds Stan's sealant fairly well. I ride mainly loose over hardpack with some rocky and rooty trails in the San Gab mts. I only wish it were a bit lighter, but that would probably sacrifice performance.

Bottom Line:I have gone through 4 of these tires between Aug and Sept 09. (1st)The first defect I thought was my own fault when a large bubble appeared after a trip to Keystone Resort, I thought I must have damaged it so I bought another. (2nd)Less than 50 miles later another bubble developed on a very smooth local trail my LBS replaced at warranty and said they have had several come back to the shop.(3rd)I live at 4600' and in September I drove to a trail that started out at 10,00 when I took my bike off the rack it had 6-10 large bubbles some as big as golf balls on the tread I had to deflate the bubbles and put a tube in to ride. (4th)Tire developed a sidewall leak and would not hold air, this happened early in tits life so it did not have a chance to bubble. I called Maxxis and they had me send tire #2 and #4 to them for evaluation. After 6 weeks of aggravation caused by some of the worst customer response I have ever encountered, (they will not return calls or emails)I called today and asked to speak to a supervisor who told me they could find no evidence of tread separation on tire #2 and tire #4 had a small pinhole in the sidewall. I will buy the story on #4 but on #2 that is just total bs I guess I should have taken pictures before I deflated the bubble. Bottom line I will not be buying any more Maxxis tires.

You can run your hand on the inside of the tire and feel the sections of the casing that are not uniform. very aggravating at high speed to see the front tire shake from side to side, and not very safe either on downhill sections. I do really like the tread though as it hooks up on every type of terra firma on which I ride, but I am still going to rate these tires low. Bottom Line:I picked these tires up after being disappointed with the Kendas (see my review on those if you are so inclined) and not overly thrilled with the Spesh Eskars (little big and slow). I had originally ordered the 2.1 size of this tire only to find it was skinny, anorexic would be a better description. I have seen 1.9's bigger. I traded them for the 2.35 version which is the same aspect ration as the Advantage 2.1, Nevegal 2.1, Specialized 2.1 (52/559)...so I guess it is safe to say the 2.35 is really a 2.1. Ok with that said, I am quite happy with how well they roll for a pretty nobby tire and the cornering and nimbleness of these tires is really great. I am most pleased that the climbing traction which was second to no other 2.1 tire I have run...They hook up well in the desert terrain and also hold very well on technical descents. I guess my only "gripe" with them is that Maxxis needs to be more consistent with their sizing so that the customer knows what they are getting...So, who should buy it...aggressive x-country/ trail riders...who shouldn't...someone looking for a true 2.35 tire...

Similar Products Used:Panaracer Fire XC, Michelin DryXC2
Bike Setup:Giant XtC Hardtail; Mavic UST/Hope wheelset
Bottom Line:I live in the WA desert & trails are hardpack dirt with some sand and rocks (except during winter when there can be mud). These tires were purchased on a local recommendation and haven't disappointed. I replaced the Michelin DryXC with these and all my traction problems have vanished! I have tremendous confidence going into corners and climbing rocky ascents. On a few trips to the mountains they were excellent over roots and more extensive rocky areas. I have not flatted (about 35 psi) and use Stans to seal the thorns even though they are UST tires on UST rims.

That leads to the only (relatively small and expected) weakness - the rolling weight and resistance. Switching to these tires from the Michelins was a bit of a shock! The M's were so fast and rolled so smoothly (just look at the knobs and you can see why) that most likely any tire would suffer in comparison, however I'll just say that the Ignitors are not that light nor do they roll that smoothly.

Still give them 4 peppers for the fine all around performance, I never need to think about my tires...

Weaknesses:small air volumer for a 1.95, defintatly should have gone with the 2.1, over 100g heavier than advertised
Similar Products Used:specialized fast track
Bike Setup:'05 specialized epic comp, some upgrades, mavic crosstrail ust rims, ritchey excavader ust as a rear tire (i highly recommend them, see review)
Bottom Line:It mounts just fine, no problems. An ok front tire, can't say for the rear but the tread pattern suggests it would be OK AT BEST as a rear tire in wet/muddy conditions, but i can't say for sure, i wish i had the bigger 2.1s. They have a good shape to them for leaning into fast turns with confidence, they have only slipped on me once in a high speed turn on loose over hardpack (it was ugly), but i can't say any other tire would have held any better. It definitely holds a little better than my fast tracks did, which i consider a good tire. For the weight weenies out there, they are advertised at 635g for the 1.95, mine weighed in at 750g! Bottom line is i would prefer a lighter/wider version of this tire for the front, but it holds pretty well, especially for a 1.9.

Strengths:Lots of grip and easy to mount on the rim
Weaknesses:They are sized small.
Similar Products Used:WTB Kenda Hutchinson ect
Bike Setup:overkill
Bottom Line:I have Mavic 823's and this tire just looks puny.

The tire went on the rim very easy without levers. I was able to seat it without soap and with a hand pump. This tire really hooks up in loose gravel and on hardpack. I was trying to get the back to break loose in some turns but to no avail.

It is a good tire just small for my taste.

Weaknesses:NONE YET

Bottom Line:I RIDE THIS TIRE ON THE FRONT AND IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THEN THIS. GRIP GALORE WITH EXTREMELY LOW ROLLING RESISTANCE EVEN @ LOW AIR PRESSURE. THE LARGE AIR VOLUME OF THIS TIRE HELPS WITH THE SMALL SHARP EDGE BUMPS MOST SUSPENSION CAN'T! OUTSIDE LUG DESIGN WILL NOT FOLD OVER EVEN UNDER EXTREME CAMBER ANGLES. SO FAR TIRE HAS OUT PREFORMED ALL TIRES ON HARD, SEMI-LOOSE , AND MOIST CONDITIONS I HAVE NOT TRIED THEM IN MUDDY CONDITIONS AND DONT REALLY PLAN TO. WILL UP-DATE WEAR IN A COUPLE MONTHS

Price Paid: $45.00
Purchased At:Big Sky Cyclery, Helena
Strengths:Lightweight Ultimate Sidwall Technology (LUST) makes it as light as a UST gets? great tread pattern, grips loose corners well at speed
Weaknesses:still a bit heavy compared to non-UST tires converted to tubeless with Stan's
Similar Products Used:Kenda Karma 2.0 (non-UST), Specialized Roll-X 2.0 (non-UST)
Bike Setup:Specialized Stumpjumper FSR. wheelset are Mavix Croxxmax SL. Front tire maxxis Ignitor, rear Kenda Karma
Bottom Line:I wanted to replace my front tire which was the Kenda Karma 2.0 non-UST with Stan's. I wanted more cornering grip and I felt like the old tire wasn't cutting it. I purchased the Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.35" and love it. I have not had a problem with converting non-UST tires to tubeless w/ Stan's and I'll go that route in the future rather than a heavier UST tire. I wish the ignitor UST was a little lighter. wheelset are Mavix Croxxmax SL. I race XC in the Sport class.

Bottom Line:Amazing tire. I have it in the rear of my Trek Liquid 25... and boy does it handle well. Wet roots, rocks, mud, dry roots, rocks and dirt does not bother it! Can ride at low pressures too!

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $49.00
Purchased At:Rage Cycle
Strengths:Holds a fast line like no other tire I have used. Good traction when climbing and rolls well in the dry Arizona conditions I ride.
Weaknesses:Smaller overall size compared to the 2.35 Kenda Nevegal I was using. But I not really sure that is a weakness at this point. Still plenty of tread getting to the ground.
Similar Products Used:2.35 Kenda Nevegal
Bike Setup:05 Turner RFX with 5" rocker. Marzocchi Z1 FR ETA (Factory reduced to 5" travel)Mavic 823 wheels with Chris King hubs.
Chris King head set, Race Face Atals cranks, XTR shifters, brakes and rear derailleur
Bottom Line:I have a half dozen rides on these tires and am very impressed with there overall performance of these tires in dry conditions. I really liked the Kenda tires I was using but think these are even a step-up, and UST!

Strengths:Durability
Weaknesses:High rolling resistance
Similar Products Used:Michelin wildgripper comps
Schwalbe racing ralphs
Bike Setup:trek fuel 100 full suspension with hope mini disc brakes
Bottom Line:The ignitor seems to be a durabile tire, it does not roll as fast as the wildgrippers and pales incomparison to the Schwalbe racing ralphs. I have raced in the trans rockies with the wildgrippers had one flat. Raced in the La Ruta with the racing ralphs wore out the side wall on the first day. The ignitors were just to slow a rolling tire to use in these races. I will use it only for training.
