Strengths:Sticky compound is just what's needed on wet, slippery rocks and corners. Wide spaced knobs clear mud effortlessly, strong cornering knobs.
Weaknesses:If you're looking for low rolling resistance, this is probably not your tire, though I don't use it for cross country, so I can't comment.
Similar Products Used:High roller 2.7 is ok, Al mighty 2.6(currently using in back cuz 24"s are hard to find)is awesome, gazzi 2.6 so so
Bike Setup:'00 bighit w/ 5th element, boxxer team, evil 2 ring cg, 24"rim in back, blah blah blah 2.7 sticky up front
Bottom Line:This tire isn't the latest money maker for maxxis, but I don't care. At Plattekill it grips slimy rock and between roots really well, cleans mud the best so far.I convert all my tires with Stan's, run 19 to 23 psi, no flats. When your life depends upon a small patch of rubber, a fast wearing tire is a small price to pay. I'm not a racer, so rolling resistance is not an issue, however this would not be my first choice for cross country or trail riding. I've found a new favorite, will probably buy again when it wears out in 2-3 months.

Bottom Line:This review is for the 2.7" DH 50A Mobster Tires. I ride freeride about half the time and these tires have been wonderful. They are long lasting (use on shuttle runs, so they don't get worn out as fast) yet very grippy on wet rocks and roots. They seem to work well in both dry and wet conditions equally. The don't clog when muddy which is nice. I run them at 20 PSI with no flats (and I'm a big guy!). If I had to nit-pick, I would say as a front tire, I have washed out on hardpack a couple of times from the side knobs folding over...a trade-off for the soft compound I guess. But seriously, this tire has done everything I have asked of it.

Bottom Line:These have done me well in all conditions, yea they get a little squirly in mud but many tires do. The only thing id like them to do better is climb hills but heck, they are d/h specific and really they only slip just a little on loose stuff and occasional slick rocks and roots on uphill only. On downhill these things own the trail. Turn on a dime, roll real easy and grip really well. I think i have 60a dur. but not sure. Had them for a couple season and just now are starting to get worn. Never had a pinch flat and nothing can penetrate these babies...oh yea except that thorn that one time.

Bottom Line:I bought the 2.35 wire bead 60d version. At first I was afraid my rims weren't wide enough...then when I got the tires I was worried the tires would be too fat for the frame and front fork. They fit great and ride even better. Going from a 1.95 front tire made for the street and a worn out 2.0 rear, these bad boys made a world of difference, and for $10 a piece I couldn't go wrong.

Strengths:-Cheap
-Grippy
-Rolls fast
Weaknesses:-Vibrate excessively on concrete
Similar Products Used:Specialized Adrenaline OEM
Bike Setup:Non-OEM Rockhopper
Bottom Line:These are the 60 2.1K style--therefore they are the firmer and less grippy but much more durable compound. I was impressed with how fast they rolled on and off road and were a big upgrade from the Specialized Adrenaline OEM tires.

They did well in mud and soft sand, as well as clearing of dirt from their tread. There is an incredible amount of stability in the nastiest conditions off road, also the tread design clears mud and sand quickly.

The tires DO vibrate at high speeds on concrete and asphalt, but that's a trade-off for the grip.

Strengths:This is for the 40 duro/2.35 wired version. These tires with the sticky compound can do no wrong on loose or hardpack. The morons who have given this tire one flaming turd are so wrong.
As the worst bike handler on earth, these tires and most of the Maxxis 40 Duro line, are so grippie, that you can't tranverse wrong or ever fall on your ass with these tires on your rims. Its like having Hans Rey helping you steer through singletrack.
Weaknesses:Yes the 40 duro wear out faster. So get the 60 duro, you numbskulls. But the 40 are sweet and you cant go wrong as the
trail dust pings you in the face, ensuring the fact its doing it job. Yes it costs money, but doesnt every 40 duro tire cost a few bucks more than a Panaracer FireXC Pro?
Similar Products Used:Kenda Sticky-E
Bike Setup:2.35 on a Santa Cruz Bullit, 2.1's with a Intense Spider
Bottom Line:Once you go Sticky-E or 40 duro, its hard to go back to 60 duro tires. They are superb in all conditions and the sidewalls keep your bike in check on those corners. Its like
having some kind of insurance when you ride, knowing that
you have to do some crazy jump or out of control stunt in order to crash, instead of just normal riding using both tires on the terra firma.

Weaknesses:These suckers roll slow(I Have the Super Tacky version). They have ramped knobs that speed 'em up, but the soft rubber slows 'em down.
As you know they are small for their size the 2.75 is about a 2.5 and the 2.5 is the same size as my Tioga 2.3.

Bottom Line:Using it on front wheel and I'm very dissapointed with this tire even if its soft compound (50). When I first rode with Mobster on front I fell down in first corner because my front slipped an asphalt. When I tried it on downhill track, it held up quite good until first cornernig. It shines in braking on dirt. I would recomend everyone not buying this tire, it sucks. Better spend a little more money on Kenda. Kenda rules.

Weaknesses:Wear between the nubs on the bike tire, wears quickly on asphalt
Similar Products Used:Kenda Kinetics
Bike Setup:Fluid with too many upgrades
Bottom Line:Interesting tire. It's light, grips well, but wears too much between the nubs on the rear tire. I have good pressure (about 60 psi with a tube), but the day I put it on, it has worn down a lot. I find that the grip now on the rear has been comprimised, and it no longer works well. The tire needs more nubs on the center in order to the wear to cease. Good for front tire, but bad for rear.

Bottom Line:I have a 2.1 for the rear. It is a very narrow tire.
The treads are small and spaced too far apart. I don't run

Strengths:Strong sidewall, lateral grip
Weaknesses:Turning grip
Similar Products Used:Lots
Bike Setup:Gemini with all the goodies
Bottom Line:I rode these tires for the first time on Hawes Road in Mesa AZ. I thought I was going to die. They would not turn for anything on the loose over hardpack out there. Lateral grip was great, but turning gave the awful sensation of being on ice with absolutely no hook up what so ever. I tried transfering weight up front, but wound up severely eating the loose over hard pack. Several times I had the bars turned but kept going straight and narrowly missed some gnarly cactus action. They seemed to grip ok on the rear, hard for me to really notice since I was babying the front end all day. Needless to say I took them off and have been trying out the IRC Kujo 2.35. Much better, but still room for improvement. I didn't try these in any other environments except for loose over hard pack and rock. They seemed to stick well to rock, but as soon as a little bit of gravel was on the trail (you can't avoid it out here) I was sliding like I hit black ice. Thumbs down for a front tire where I ride. I am just glad I got them cheap.

Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:Panaracer Fire FR, Specialized Roller, etc
Bike Setup:Foes Fly w/Super-T
Bottom Line:The rubber makes the difference and I didn't believe it would until I tried some other tires and WHOA what a surprise. I'm currently running the Panaracer Fire FRs and the tread is more aggressive than the Mobsters but the stickier rubber makes the Mobsters actually more effective particularly in wet, technical riding where little slips and slides can be very unwelcome.

I had the Mobster 2.5 and ran them at 40 psi (I'm heavier at 250lbs).

These tires have performed well and saved my a** more than a few times in mud, loam, roots, rocks and even dry sandy stuff.

These are great all-around tires that I will buy again.

I had a michelin 2.8 and i found when it was really muddy the treads would fill up with mud and the mud wouldn't come off untill you hit super high speeds. Favorite Trail:street riding & DH
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:Got a deal
Strengths:Grips VERY well, corners well, looks PIMP and you NEVER EVER get pinch flats. Whoever rated this product 1/5 because they "got 5 flats out of the 8 times they rode this tire" is a TOTAL DIP SH*T. Of course it's all because of the tire! I always stall on ledges which involves the ledge passing through the tire and touching the rim, and NEVER did I get pinch flats. I don't know what these people were thinking when they wrote that they got 5 pinch flats out of 8 rides. Maybe they're on crack.
Weaknesses:I must agree that the tire wears pretty fast, but isn't that the price to pay to have SOFT COMPOUND? If the tire is 50A, obviously it's going to wear off fast. Why don't you just buy 70A which will wear off in 5 years but will not even grip at all? Use your brain guys.
Similar Products Used:Gazzas, WTB Weirwolfs, High Rollers
Bike Setup:Toy 3, Z-150, Mag30, Raceface, Maxxis...
Bottom Line:Although they may weigh alot and wear off fast, overall these tires are amazing. They're pricey you say? Who forced you to pay full price. Be smart and look out for deals, I paid 20$USD each. Here's some hints: bikeroom.ca, jensonusa.com...

They wear out fast I hear some of you whining, well they're 50A compound, which indicates that they're SOFT COMPOUND. Obviously soft compound wears off fast.

DON'T pay full price for these tires, if you do please shoot yourself. Hunt around for deals, and you won't regret buying these tires.

Bike Setup:Beefed up FSRxc, with Sun Rhyno Lites.
Bottom Line:I am only using this tire on the front, where it works very well at Bootleg Canyon.
Many people are not saying what version of the tire they are reviewing. There are many versions from 2.1 XC tires all the way up too the 2.7 Downhill versions.
Mine is the 2.35, 60a compound, 870 gram, Freeriding/Biker X version of the Mobster.
This version of the Mobster is just a bit heavier than I would like for my type of riding. I would like to see a lighter cross-country version of the 2.35, with the same tread design and compounds.
I can't complain about the Mobster's performance. The Mobster is a very good front tire for Bootleg Canyon's cross-country courses. Its stable when I hit the loose patches of sand and gravel and sticks well to the off camber sections of rock that are in the trails in numerous locations. The almost continuous edging knobs let the tire grab the terrain at some unbelievable angles that send most tires "skipping off" sideways.
The only tire that compares, is the Geax Sturdy 2.1, which is what I'm using on the rear. Its a good combination.
The Geax Sturdy rolls a bit better on the rear than the Mobster and has the same type of continuous edging knobs, while the Mobster offers a slightly more open center knob design, which allows the front to dig in.
I may try a 2.1 Mobster on the front next time, because its a little lighter at 650 grams.
If Maxxis makes a lite weight wire beaded version of the tire, I think I'd have the perfect combo, for my type of riding, which I suppose could best be described as heavy-duty cross-country.

Strengths:This is a review for the 2.35 Mobster. Good size, traction and excellent range of pressure setup. From hard and fast to soft and grip
Weaknesses:A little heavy for XC riding, but worth the penalty when things start moving fast and the turns are tight.

Bottom Line:Was using the continental vertical pros and was very happy with them for the most part. I was looking for a tire with a little more volume and cornering traction. Decided to try the maxxis mobster 2.35 and have been very happy so far. This is definetly not your xc weight watchers tire (850 grams), even though I ride it like one. Braking and cornering traction are excellent. I have used this tire in the mud and traction and shedding were very good (I just dropped the pressure for grip). I also have one of the mobster reezay 2.35 slow rebound tires on the front. Good tire in the roots and rocks but a the casing is a little soft in the corners for my liking.

Bottom Line:This review is for the Maxxis Mobster 2.1. I use this tire for my front tire only. Yesterday I gave this tire a severe beating taking it through mud, sand, rocks, loose dirt, Wet dirt, and hardpack. It tracked very well through all of it, very good grip in all situations thus far. I wouldn't knnow how it would do as a rear tire and I mainly use it in dry or somewhat dry conditions. They seem to be decent in mud but not the best you could choose. My mud tire of choice is the WTB Weirwolf 2.1 Race that tire can truly do it all. It handles carving turns well due to the good side knobs, and has minamal wash outs as long as you don't over do it. I use minimal tire pressure in this tire and it runs very well no pich flats so far. This is a good tire for any cross country situatons I have not been let down so far will post a follow up soon to how well they wear and perform over a varity of days on the trail and conditions PEACE.

Strengths:Terrific grip with relatively low resistance. Tough so far...no flats (see hint below). Great "trail feeling" and a very supple ride. Side knobs rail fast sweepers and dig in on switchbacks. Excellent self-cleaning.
Weaknesses:Only one...my kevlar beaded version was extremely hard to mount on my box section rims. Soft compound will wear a little faster, but it's worth the trade-off. Maybe a little smaller than other 2.1" tires.
Similar Products Used:Maxxis MoFo, Panaracer Smoke, Ancient Farmer Johns (my favorites till now). Numerous others.
Bike Setup:Rocky Mtn. Fusion stock with 2.1" Mobsters F&R, WTB Laser V Stealth saddle, Rock Shox Judy Race, SPD-M536 pedals, WTB dual compound trail grips.
Bottom Line:I've read both the good and bad reviews, and I've gotta say, I love these tires. My favorite so far. They have a very buttery feel on hardpack and a very sure-footed on the slippery technical stuff. My first ride on them was a wet one. I started to spin on a root, but after about a half rotation, the tread grabbed and nearly launched me off the bike. I've been hooked ever since. On the first ride, it felt like I had a new bike.

And even after slogging through mud all day, the tires still looked brand new. Almost no mud stuck to them at all.

I read what some people said about flats. This may have more to do with tube choice than the tire itself. If you have box section rims, use the smaller size tubes. With bigger tubes, there won't be enough room inside the tire and the tube will pinch under the bead. Since making the switch a week after buying the tires, I haven't had even so much as a slow leak.

Another mech. note...pump 'em way up (65-70 lbs) for hardpack and pavement and way down (35 lbs) for technical stuff and you'll be very, very happy!

Buy 'em, you'll love 'em.

The 2.1's are the trailbike tires I use as a benchmark. MY current shop doesn't have a maxxis account, and it saddens me.
