Strengths:Uber Grippy,
Weaknesses:Heavy,
Similar Products Used:K-Rad, Timberwolf, Nevegal, Specialized compound, Small Block8
Bike Setup:Dirt Jumper Single Speed
Bottom Line:I love this tire. I'm 230 lbs and have not had a pinch flat.
I run the rear at max pressure no matter what terrain I'm riding. I do However Change the Front out to a Nevegal for Singletrack. It's pretty sandy here and the rear provide plenty of forward bite while climbing out of the saddle.
On blue groove hard pack and cement the 2.4 front 2.2 rear combo is unbeatable.

Weaknesses:heavy maybe.

Bottom Line:i wish i woulda got another pair of these tires instead of the wtb's. they're like half the price. i have not had a problem w/ pinch flats, though i do not ride hard. i do however, weigh 260. they work pretty good on hardpack trails. mud, yes, its like ice. those little holes pack up quick, and turn your tire effectively bald. but they also shed mud quickly. they do slide off roots so not good for those either. but i love them. i highly recommend these tires for urban, or dry trails with a minimal amount of roots.

Strengths:Grip Good and Track Great.
Weaknesses:None so far; but any tire will slip in the right conditions.
Similar Products Used:First street tire used on my 26" mountain bike ; that's right I have run these on my mountain bike and they do a better job all around the dry trails than the CST tires that came on the bike.
Bike Setup:2007 cannondale rush 5 with avid ellixir cr 203mm's and an SLX front crank; by the way the breaks are great and the SLX crank is solid.
Bottom Line:These are great tires; If I were you I would break in any tire on the street because I think that manufactures use something to keep the tire from sticking to the mold and once you break through that they will grip better. Discount tire told me this about car tires and why should mtb tire be any different? These tires also grip better and hold a clean line when the trail goes from hardpack to those wooden plank bridges. The reviewers here said that the were great tires and I just happened to get to a mtb trail without changing tires and they did well.

Strengths:low noise, smooth ride, really grippy on alot of different terrain (road, loose dirt, even some muddy conditions) great all around tire.
Weaknesses:nothing that i found so far. no flats like other people have mentioned. i havnt had any traction issues either.
Bike Setup:06 specialized enduro expert
Bottom Line:i had bought these for the versitile aspect, i havnt had any issues that other people have been writing about. i keep my tire pressure at 60psi on the streets and 45-55psi in the dirt. if your having traction problems in the really muddy stuff you might want to evaluate the lines your picking on the trail. it doesnt matter what tire you have if its so muddy that you have to scrape your tires clean with a stick. just my 2 cents. i gave 4 chillis due to the fact that 5 is perfect and all other tires would be obsolete.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:traded for it
Strengths:versatile tread, grip good, fast rolling, light though its a 2.4
Weaknesses:pinchflat magnet, be it in trails or the streets. could be unpredictable to zero grip in wet rocks and mud.
Similar Products Used:Gazzaloddi Jr., Larsen TT wire bead, Maxxis Kraken, Tioga Psycho
Bike Setup:singlespeed. hardtail.
Bottom Line:if there is a jack-of-all-trades tire, this is it. However, trail riding could be a pain because you need high pressures for everything, because the sidewalls are sadly lacking in durability, hit a rock or a hard root a peculiar way and POOF! No air.

A friend of mine loves the Holy Roller, but when teh rains come it becomes the "Holy Sheet!" because it is an unpredictable tire in trails, and its not a mud tire. I tried it out on mud just for kicks and it feels like driving on ice, and there's no ice in my country! I crashed several times too. No problem on wet asphalt, though.

The bottom line: play to its strengths (hardpack, asphalt, gravel maybe) and you will never be disappointed. Overstretch its capabilities and you will be asking for a knobby. And pump up the pressure. You'll be flatting if you go below the 35 psi comfort zone, in fact, 40+ psi is the lowest you can go.

But if there's an urban DH race, I'm getting a 2.2 for the rear. I already have the 2.4.

Purchased At:treefortbikes.com
Strengths:Now available 26 x 2.2 and 26 x 2.4 I have the 2.2 Great for less than perfect roads. Can handle sand, potholes, and gravel with ease. Nice cushioning effect as well.
Weaknesses:No problems yet the sidewalls are thin like other have said but keep your pressure correct for you conditions and you should be alright.
Similar Products Used:Hutchison acrobats, less grippy cannot handle dirt or sand very well compared to these.
Bike Setup:DB response, stock except for minor things, handle bars and rigid front fork. Converted to single speed with dts tensioner. Used as a pair originally but i needed more grip for the front tire.
Bottom Line:Great tire for the road that handles some sand and dirt fairly well, even some minor mud mixed in. Reliable with almost no road noise, a very good compromise for mixed riding. Offered good cushioning for the for rigid fork use. I would however recommend something with more teeth in the front as there is some slide with downhill braking and fast cornering.

Strengths:Very fast rolling in the city and on smooth dirt. Very predictable (if not terribly grippy) in looser terrain.
Weaknesses:Short shoulder knobs for mountain biking, but this isn't really the tire's design brief.
Similar Products Used:I usually run Specialized or Michelin tires.
Bike Setup:Surly Instigator, set up with LX and some nice tidbits.
Bottom Line:These tires are very fast rolling. I find them well suited to riding on smoother trails and even reasonably grippy when they are dry. I got them mainly for street, but so far have been able to do just about everything with them. If I were going on muddy or loose terrain, I would choose something more aggressive. Likewise, were I planning to ride in rocks, I would choose something more robust. All in all, a great tire for when you can't decide what kind of riding you want to do.

Favorite Trail:Downtown!
Duration Product Used:2 Years

Strengths:I like these tires a lot, and I'd strongly recommend them as street tires if it weren't for their one fundamental flaw...
Weaknesses:This is the whole reason I'm writing this review. I have to make it known! I run these tires with as much air as I can put in them without risking blowing them on the spot, and I still can't get away from pinch flats! Anyone who pushes their limits is going to case, it's a fact of life, and it gets pretty frustrating when you pinch flat 10 times out of 10! There's a nice set of stairs in front of the local art gallery with a landing 5 stairs up, and that 5 set wraps around 3 sides of the landing, the fourth being the stairs continuing up to the deck, and I know I can hop up the 5 set to manual across the landing to drop off the other side, but I've never actually gotten to do it because I haven't made it first try yet, and with these tires any little tiny mistake means a blowout. The sidewalls are paper thin! You can really tell after you flat, when you're pushing the bike back home 5+ miles away 'cause all the shops are closed late on a friday night, 'cause it looks and sounds like you ran over a Chinese lantern or something. It's frustrating, and for that reason alone I can't recommend these tires to anyone, unless you only ever ride BMX tracks or something. It's a shame, 'cause I'm sure I'd really like these tires if only they had good sidewalls.
Similar Products Used:I've tried all kinds of different tires with similar tread patterns and intended uses, but they were all 2 ply.
Bike Setup:They came stock on my 2007 Cannondale Chase 1.
Bottom Line:Well, you already know how I feel about these tires, but I'll go on about how it could be anyway. When they're actually supported by an intact tube, they feel great on all types of street terrain (except of course wet wood and marble, but even super soft tires with tall maleable knobs slip on those!). They feel good on hardpacked dirt too, as long as there's not too much loose gravel or whatever on top. My bike (the Chase) is terrible in the corners; the front end pushes dangerously, it's impossible to get enough weight over it to maintain a drift, but I can tell from the back tire that on a more capable bike the tires would work fine on the trails. Of course they wouldn't compare to a true knobby trail tire, but they're not meant to; obviously they're not intended for muddy or gravel-on-hardpack terrain. All in all a great tire for it's intended uses, if only it didn't go off like a gunshot every time you breathed near it or looked at it the wrong way!

Strengths:very versatile, fast rolling, surprisingly grippy on different types of terrain.
Weaknesses:Must be run on high pressures or risk pinch flats. Not a mud tire.
Similar Products Used:Gazzaloddi Jr, Maxxis Kraken, Tioga Psycho
Bike Setup:singlespeed. hardtail.
Bottom Line:Great find, actually. I traded a Specialized Chunder 2.3 for it, when the Chunder can't fit in my frame. It is a great combo wih my Gazzaloddi Jr at the front, and I was very impressed in my first DH run in it. However, it should be run at high pressures to prevent flats, I had two flats in one day because of the inability of the tire to go low.

And another thing, Its not for mud. It has no grip under braking and off camber sections, which caused me to slip over and over again. but then again, it's no knobby.

Perfect for its intended application, but it will surprise you with its versatility.

Strengths:Fast, fat (2.4), great grip on pavement and loose gravel/sand.
Weaknesses:Sort of noisier than I expected, not sure that this is a bad thing in the city but I suppose that I should put it here anyways
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Specialized HardRock Sport Disk, XL frame.
Bottom Line:Best upgrade I've purchased thus far. Old tires were way too noisy and made coasting way more work, plus were an extremely rough ride. These things are a great mix for street riders in the Northeast who have to contend with salt/sand/gravel mixed in with your occasional unpaved sidewalk and pothole-ridden asphalt. Lends great speed and preserves the fat-tire look on the bike. I've got mine at 50 PSI which is about 15 under max and gives great response.

Note - I am a casual rider, probably only log about 10 miles per week if I'm lucky... but it's about 95% urban riding.

Strengths:rolling and traction on street is excellent. I use the 2.4 which looks great and they can take any drop, stairs, turns... compared with similar products, they are very good in wet conditions, as well as dirt. I can say that i rely alot more on my bike with these shoes on
Weaknesses:they are a bit too soft. make sure that they are at least at 50psi... they are VERY dangerous at low pressure. in addition, do not abuse on the brakes when riding on street because they will not last long.
Similar Products Used:specialized rhythm 2.3
Bike Setup:specialized p.2, hayes stroker, deity steam & handlebar & seat, custom paintjob, etc.
Bottom Line:i recommend this tire to those who want a really good tire for urban assault, and at the same time, something that you can trust when rolling on dirt. If you dont like to run at more then 50psi, this is not the tire for you. THEY DO NOT WORK WITH LESS THEN 50psi.

Date Reviewed: February 3, 2008
Favorite Trail:Gasplant, Beitou Hills (Graveyard)
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $16.00
Purchased At:LBS Taipei
Strengths:Predicable grip in dry and wet, no sudden and extreme losses of traction. Easy rolling on paved surfaces. Hard wearing. Excellent rear tire, it just refuses to slip from your chosen line. As long as your front wheel gets over the obstacle, you can be confident that the rear will not slide out from under you. I think this is because the tire has a rounded profile, undisturbed the he knobs found on the traditional MTB tires, thus it presents a large contact patch even off-camber. Sticks to wet rocks and roots. High volume allows for lower pressure. The trails I ride are not what you would call XC. Its more like technical AM to freeriding and as a rear tire this one is hard to beat. True 2.2" wide
Weaknesses:On the front, it does have one specific shortcoming - it cannot hold the line in the ruts as there are no aggressive side knobs to dig into the dirt/clay/mud, otherwise it is also excellent as a front tire as you do not have to be too careful about the lines you pick to negotiate slippery rocks and roots.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Enduro (no grip on anything at any pressure), Mythos IRC (no grip on anything and very bouncy), Maxxis High Roller Type R (fast rolling, but limited grip), Maxxis High Roller Semi Slick (great front tire, sticks like a limpet when running low pressure and has side knobs for them ruts)
Bike Setup:Tank Ruby Freeride frame 7-5" travel. Spinner Ammo 178 Fork, SRAM X0 and Shimano XT drivetrain. A-Class Revolt wheelset (very smooth, but somewhat soft)
Bottom Line:Very predictable. Highly recommended for everything, urban and trail. Having ridden a lot in the mud and wet and dry technical rooty and rocky trails, I see them as a very capable all-round tire. Sure they will not grip if you are riding through a flowing mud runnel, but nothing else will either.

Bike Setup:These tyres have outlasted 4 heavy duty hardtails (not a rich kid, or an unskilled thumper, just a big guy who goes big) and are just on their last legs on the 5th.
Currently running a Cannondale chase with full custom build.
Bottom Line:Originally I bought these when I was living in London and riding street almost exclusively... Then I did a very wise thing and moved to Edinburgh- the trails around here rock!!
Due to laziness, I never got around to changing my tyres, even throughout the winter: I've ridden in snow, ice and mud on these beauts and haven't got a bad word to say about 'em; even in mud they remain predictable- of course, they slide and squirm, but they didn't ever wipe out, they even stay planted over wet roots within reason. For what they are designed in the skatepark and at the dirt jumps they excel, but I would also heartily reccomend them to anyone riding manmade trail centres; they're basically semi slicks with extra volume.

All told once these wear out, it'll be more of the same.

pretty much everything..very confidence inspiring on all surfaces i tried them on which include wet pavement, dry pavement and hardpacked to semi loose dirt. even doing 180's on wet dirty pavement wasn't a problem. never slid out, or pinch flatted and i ride in some pretty grimey places. i love these tires.
Weaknesses:many people say the 2.4 is actually more like 2.25 or 2.3 but it is still pretty wide which can be a problem with clearance issues. now they luckily make it in a 2.2 for 26's at least which i will be running very soon. not a weakness, just be aware of it..

Bottom Line:great tires. i chose to buy two of these for my 26" build because i loved my 24" ones so much. luckily they make them in a 2.2 for 26 so i won't have any clearance problems. i usually like a tire that can be pumped up higher then 65psi but these felt great at that level and are worth every penny. i cant wait to get my new ones in the mail!

Bottom Line:Both my singlespeed bikes have these tires. They put the Kenda Small Block 8's (hot tire of the minute) to shame in looks and performance. I just took the tires off roading in the Los Gatos mountains. My goodness, they performed stellar. These tires perform off and on road with stellar results so long as you adjust psi accordingly. Five stars.

Bottom Line:I expect a lot from my tires. At 210 pounds and a 500+ squat I can lay down some power, and I spun the haalos out of the gate ALL THE TIME. I liked the blue streaks, but the holy rollers are easier to find. The HR on front grabs better than the blues streak or the Haalo. It`s a smooth rolling tire that`s really fast and grips well. I hear they tend to wear a little fast, but I haven`t had them long enough to know, hence the 4 chili overall.

Bottom Line:These tires are the sh*t for urban freeride and dirt jumps. I have been using them since January and have not had a single flat. They roll over streets, hard pack, and dirt trails super easy. Only problem I have found using them is with pine straw as they cannot hold and "bite". Stay clear of areas with pine trees and you'll be fine.

Strengths:fantastic urban tire, has treated me very well on a wide array of surfaces. offers more confidence on more surfaces to me than the hookworms do.
Weaknesses:single-ply sidewalls
Bike Setup:No-Name Aluminum Frame, Manitou Six Front Fork, Haro X1 Stem, Truvativ Riser Bars, Truvativ Five-D Cranks, Mosh Platform Pedals, ODI Ruffian Lock-on Grips
Bottom Line:awesome street tire, unmatched on many riding surfaces. even treats you well off-road, recently got sidetracked and hit up a local XC trail and actually survived surprisingly well. the fact that i have 24 inch wheels and a street-oriented rig caused a pretty big problem, but the tires held tight over just about anything i could throw at them the whole time. i beat the snot out of them on a regular basis (although the bike is off the street with a snapped BB as of now) and so far no pinch flats, but like others have said if you are a strict urban rider and you do 10 foot stair gaps and other crazy schtuff i would go for the hookworms. however, if you want a good, well rounded do it all tire with tons of versatility then by all means grab yourself a pair of these. besides, the price is right at only 20 dollars each its a steal.

Strengths:*for 26"x2.4"
-You can beat the crap out of 'em!
-Adds some much-needed squish to my full-rigid
-good grip on pavement
-Not too shabby on sand and gravel (but not a trail tire either)
-Relatively light
Weaknesses:-moderate rolling resistance (so ----ing what? Its for urban, not racing)
-not quite 2.4" (closer to a 2.25...still looks beefy though)
Similar Products Used:Continental:Traffic,Town&Country;Maxxis:Hookworm;various slick&semi slick tires
Bike Setup:Old Rockhopper Comp rigid
Bottom Line:I got them to beat the living snot out of.They take it like a champ.Originally had the Rollers front and rear, but had slight clearance issues in the back so switched to a Conti Traffic 2.1".They do a great job of softening up a full rigid, are more than capable of taking everything the local BMX park and every staircase within 10 miles of me,and no pinch flats so far, although I try not to run 'em at under 50psi.Surprisingly not-scary if ya leave the pavement into sand or gravel with good puncture resistance, but don't do XC or nuthin on them.If used as intended,a solid 5 turds.

Bottom Line:This is a first impression. My son and I just put these tires on our bikes yesterday and went to the local jump spot.

We're aggressive beg/int jumpers learning the ropes, and flying the tables and small gaps. These wheels seem like they're going to take us to the next level.

We were both immediately rolling faster and smoother, getting significantly more air and overshooting our landings. We could back off and flow more. These tires are very fast rollers given the same psi as you're used to riding. We both found that we were able to charge a bit less and focus more on my line and technique.

We had an awesome first session on these tires and think they're worth every penny! By the end of our session, I had found the confidence to successfully clear a new gap as well! Yeah!!!

I had these pumped up to 60PSI and shot off road durning a road ride. They really got great traction anyway. I'll ride them much softer on a planned, true off road ride.
Great product.

Similar Products Used:Nothing similiar. They replaced some nanoraptors. Use to have some Performance Versa-tracs (no comparison).
Bike Setup:Haro Escape frame, miscellaneous cobbled together parts
Bottom Line:I love these tires. I have the 26 x 2.4 version. I put them on my hardtail that I use for screwing around in town, mostly on pavement. The improvement over the 2 inch wide nanoraptors was enormous and immediately noticable. The tread and large volume make for a very smooth ride--they just feel good. Really sticky, too. Great cornerning on pavement, feels like you could take a sidewalk corner at 30 mph. The other thing I noticed is the they bounce really nice to get a little boost off small bumps, etc.
I don't know how they compare to Kenda K-rads, but I would buy them again in a second. Recommended to anybody who rides mostly urban. BMXers use them for dirt jumping, so they must be pretty good on hardpack, too, but I haven't tried it yet.

Strengths:- Amazingly fast roller
- Grips like glue in urban, dirt and packed trail environments
- Light weight (660g??), way lighter than Hook worms
- Look really nice, much nicer then K-rads
Weaknesses:These tires are perfect for their intended use. If you use them as your only tires then you'll notice they aren't optimum for wet/muddy trails and they aren't as light as XC tires obviously

Bike Setup:RM Switch Ltd., Race Face, Sram X9, Hadley, Thomson, Funn, Azonic, Marzocchi Z1 FR1 05. FSA
Bottom Line:These tires originally came out for BMX's years ago and have been a favourite ever since. They absolutely rule for all things urban/DJing and they still rock if you wanna go for a trail ride cuz they roll so fast and still have good grip. They come in 24" and 26" sizes but you have to get em 2.4" wide which is a pretty nice size. Also, I have heard they are now available for tubeless rims.

Basically if you don't ride in the mud and you want the fastest tires with the most grip and a great weight then these should be your first choice. The fact that they are one of the sexiest tires out there is just the cherry on the top. If you need any further encouragement, Aaron Chase uses these to absolutely tear up all things urban.

Low rolling resistance over asphalt, excellent grip wet & dry on pavement but here's the killer - brilliant for trails.
Floated over sand and powder, hardpack is easy, big rocks, roots and gravel are no problem at all.
Although they're only single ply, we played hard with these and they didn't give any problems.
