Submitted by Colin a Cross Country Rider from New Zealand
Date Reviewed: July 8, 2007
Favorite Trail:Just toooo many to choose from in NZ
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:None
Weaknesses:Strength
Similar Products Used:Mavic 231... now that was a really good rim
Bike Setup:I think I was riding a giant 990 with XT/XTR
Bottom Line:These were soooo weak. They only lasted 4 off road rides before the rim side walls just flattened on me

Date Reviewed: August 8, 2003
Favorite Trail:the road and fire trails
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:local bike store
Strengths:I have had no problem with these rims in over 5 years! I mostly use them on the road and around town. Curbs and cars give them no trouble. They rock! Solid as can be, and I never have to true them.
Bike Setup:Cannondale F700
Bottom Line:I know they don't make them anymore, but they are fairly cheap and very resilliant. I would definently buy them again if I could.

Date Reviewed: May 14, 2003
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:bike shop
Strengths:light
Weaknesses:Edges blow off after using them with "v" brakes. Honest to god, I wish this site allowed pictures. The edge of my rear rim exploded at less than 40 psi.Probably a 4 inch 'rip' from the edge of the rim. I dont think this rim was ever designed for v brake use.
Bottom Line:Very scary. I will not ride on them again. I basically ride slow offroat trails. I do not ride hard enough to damage a HUffy. Well, maybe a bit harder, but the rim is very poor.

Date Reviewed: April 17, 2003
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:none?
Weaknesses:they bend easily!?
Bike Setup:hardtail
Bottom Line:they are crap. never stay true. just did a bunny hop up two stairs, and they bent inwards. it was right beside the joint, so probably this has been the problem.
perhaps good, if you don´t do any crosscountry and just ride along the streets, not riding off or on the sidewalk.

Submitted by Jason Feng a Cross Country Rider from Bangor Maine U.S.A
Date Reviewed: May 23, 2002
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Light weight. Appears to be of good quality.
Weaknesses:Way over-rated. Bends too easily.
Similar Products Used:Sun CR-16
Bike Setup:'92 Trek 950 w/ Suntour XC-Pro Microdrive
Bottom Line:These felt light and lively until I took a hard turn.
The rim just tacoed. Stay away from these. They can't be trusted. If I recall corectly, these were supposed to be heat treated. But from the way it bent too easily I'm sure the set I got didn't receive any heat treating. Anyway, I replaced these with Matrix's SingletrackPro and haven't had any problems since.

Favorite Trail:Tai Mo Shan in hk
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:came with my cannondale 97 superv1000
Strengths:umm...it still worked after the bike fell into a 8 feet pit...but it dented(6 spots) and wont ever stay straight again even after truing
Weaknesses:can be dented easily
bent easily
Similar Products Used:mavic d321 on my new da bomb xlr8r
Bike Setup:cannondale 97 superv1000 with busted front and rear suspension....lx/xt parts and avid 25 v-brakes
Bottom Line:well if these rims are given to you then take it but otherwise dont waste your money on them, they bend and dent way too easily....

i got the first dent because my bike fell and the rim hit a really small rock and dented

the 5 other dents were from me crashing the bike jumped into a 8 feet pit

Submitted by Patrik Westerlund a Cross Country Rider from Stockholm, Sweden
Date Reviewed: October 6, 2000
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:Cykel City
Strengths:They are light, stay true and look good
Weaknesses:Mavic don't make them any more....
Similar Products Used:Sun CR 16, Mavic 217 SUP, Mavic 517 SUP
Bike Setup:Access Ti frame, RS SID sl -99, XTR drivetrain, Syncros headset, bar and post, Icon stem, Hope hubs
Bottom Line:These babies are alive and kicking. True weight 375 g all 4 of them! Compare that to all the false figures manufacturers use to promote light rims! Yes, I have 2 wheelsets, both with Hope hubs and DT 2,0/1,8 spokes and alu nipples. Now with the black spokes, yes, second build-up too....

Stay true during XC use. Haven't worked more with them than maybe 2 times a year and minor trueing adjustments only, just for the fun of making them millimeterexact. The best.

Nonsense, might get some Sun XC O-Degrees
Similar Products Used:mavic 220's
Bike Setup:96 Marin Indian Fire Trail, XT, Mazzochi Z2 Superflys
Bottom Line:Great rims for cross county, i've hit every thing from tree stumps to poodles, and theve trued up every time, theres probably a good 2000 miles left in these babies, i wouldn't mind some better looking Sunns for the money, but hey, for the moment Musseenntt GGrummmmBle!

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Strengths:Price, strength
Weaknesses:Somewhat tricky to keep clean
Similar Products Used:Weinmann ZAC 19, Araya something, Bontrager Mustang
Bike Setup:Cdale M2000
Bottom Line:The rear one got trashed after some 4000 km in a huge drop which was acceptable, I think. But I still have the front one running, something like 6500 km on it and still going strong.
