Strengths:
This fork is very plush, yet strong. It is extremely smooth and I have never bottomed it out. Ive had it for a year and I havent had too many problems with it. I use it for light jumps/street and trails.
Weaknesses:
When I got the fork the bolts that hold the three piece legs were missing. The bolts cost $40 canadian at the local shop and I paid the same ammount for the fork. So I tapped my own threads and put in some stainless steel bolts. Big mistake. This weakend the legs and they flex like a leaf spring. Even with the proper bolts they were apperently still weak.

This fork is good and I recomend it. I need more info, but I would like to change the legs to some one piece legs if I can although I don't know for sure if this is possible.

Bottom Line:
I bourght these about a year ago, and they worked properly for a week. About a month after I first got them, they made the worst noise ever. At first, I thourght it was my headset, but no. So I spent 70 quid on a woodman saturn to find out if it would stop. Then I got new bars and wheel. Still sounds like $#!+. Finally, I got the cool Specailized vegas trx-24, for a new frame. I was praying for the noise to go away. You have guessed it, still sounded like your mum (mom for you americans). Then, about a month ago (today is the 5th of may 04), I decided to swap to the rigid's that came with my frame. I took the wedges out of my frame, then tried to bash the headset off the steerer tube. But my steerer tube somehow busted, so it was a challange to get the headset off, and in order to get the correct angle to give it a few hits, I had to take the front wheel off. As I did, the whole thing twisted. I looked again, and the right dropout for the wheel had snapped. Bugger. So basically, this fork was death in another form. The only good point is that it did last to my standards for a year, and it was very smooth when ridden, as well as being fairly cheap. So all in all, more like a cross country fork than a freeride fork. Not to be ridden hard!

Just keep your weight behind da saddle and trust this fork to get you down and up the ruts.
No problems with drops to flat at 4-feet and below. No guts yet to try higher drops. I experienced oil leak when using v-breaks, it went away when i switch to disk brakes.

Similar Products Used:
Most recent: '02 Psylo SL
Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
I bought the fork used. It came with an extra heavy spring in one leg and a heavy spring in the other. It was set up with 15 wt oil. Perfect for me, a 210 pound rider who does a lot of hucking and long technical trail rides. I would have to agree with many of the guys who posted with the view that with the stock set up, this fork will blow. Also there have been some issues with Marzocchi's cryofit crown. My fork was warrantied before I bought it. The crown, stanchions and seals were replaced with the Marathon set up. Stiffer, stronger and lighter. Nice. But it's something to watch out for. One other issue is that all of the adjustments are internal. This isn't really a big deal, but if you like to fiddle a lot with dials, you'll be out of luck.
But to write this fork off would be a mistake. Properly set up, the Z1 will perform at least as well as other long travel single crown forks costing much more. Don't believe it when someone tells you this is a "budget" fork. It's not. The Wedge is pretty much the same as a Z1 FR, just without the power windows. If performance is what matters to you, then this fork should be on your bike.
Every time I ride this fork, I'm amazed. Laterally and torsionally stiff. Plush and responsive without wallowing around. Compared to the Psylo SL, which I was using before, this is definitely a leap forward. I still really like the Psylo, but it just isn't in the same league. The steering with the Wedge is very precise, and the fork tracks through corners without making you wonder how far it's going to dive. This is something about Bombers that I've always liked: predictability. One other thing worth mentioning here is that I've used a couple of Zokies in the past and I've never had an issue with them. If you set the fork up for your weight, then you shouldn't experience a failure.
I've done a few jumps and some long technical trail rides with this fork and I'm looking forward to many more. Do the homework with the set up. It's not hard to do and it's well worth it. I'll post again in few weeks but so far, I'm giving this fork a big thumbs up.

Weaknesses:
- Not sensitive to small bumps - Oil level was low right out of the box. Better QC needed.
Bike Setup:
Giant AC with some nice new parts and some cheapass old spare parts layin' around
Bottom Line:
A good fork for messing around. The fork has no noticeable flex. I installed it on my Giant AC, which I use for XC and some peewee amatuer stair dropping. Takes 3 footers with ease and plush on drops. However the fork is not sensitive to small bumps on the trail for my regular riding. I have no problems climbing up hills, just stay seated and work on smooth peddling. The internal rebound adjustment is not a problem at all IMO. I never touch the adjustments on any fork once I tweaked it to my liking, so I don't think the internal adjustments are a big deal. I also consider internal adjustments a plus because you don't have to worry about external knobs and dial being damaged like on my old RS and Black forks. As a light rider (140 lbs), I had to switch out the stock springs for the soft springs. So light riders should factor another $30 into the price. I have no complaints.

I weight 240 lbs so I needed a stiff fork and I added the stiff springs. Still sags a little more than it should. I guess I could either add heavier oil or just lose a few pounds. Great fork for the money

Strengths:
Plush, smooth, they just work well. with the addition of heavier springs, they resist bottoming much better (5' to flat and it didn't bottom, that's impressive for a singlecrown IMO). it's also cheap!
Weaknesses:
i'm starting to notice the flex.... if i put the brakes on and rock the bike back and forwards, you can see and feel it flexing. also steering tracking isn't anything special, it's not quite as precise as a DC fork, but that's to be expected.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
I'm starting to find these forks a bit flexy. i can feel it (and see it), and it's just not quite what i want. however, as a singlecrown fork, they're more than adequate. it's unreasonable to think you're getting a Monster/Shiver in a singlecrown, of course stiffness and damping is gonna be inferior. for what they are, and what they're designed for, they are a reliable, solid fork. don't take my machinations about flex too seriously, i WAS misusing the fork by DHing on it. it isn't a problem at all in normal riding, but when you really start to push it you'll notice it a bit. oh and Ben Ryan from Brisbane, you are surely the biggest bullsh1t artist ever.... nosedived an 8ft drop and no bottom out on a singlecrown fork? yeah right. and how can you have gotten 142mm of travel out of a 130mm fork; they don't even have 142mm of exposed staunchion. so unless you're forcing 5mm of your crown through the bushings, you're bullsh1tting. i question whether you've even ridden the forks.

The Good --It does absolutely everything I ask it to. An admirably performing fork, especially at it's price range. Smooth, with nicely ramping travel. If you find it too soft, or too jittery, just take the time to aquaint yourself with the magical world of maintenance and setup. It's amazing how much difference a little diddling with the adjustments, oil, and springs can make. Set up well, this fork behaves better than even the most top of the line forks of five years ago.
The Bad --Yep, the disc mounts. Snapped off like a cracker under the forces of a hard, but perfectly normal stoppie. I weigh 160 lbs soaking wet, and it's a mechanical hayes, so the failure happened well within acceptable limits of wear and tear. Most folks I've talked to said it sounds like an impurity in the metal, which sounds like an anomaly. But if you read below, it doesn't seem to be all that rare an event. Tsk tsk Marzocchi.
The Moral of the Story --Despite the broken disc tab incident, I can't damn the fork, it otherwise works as well as most riders could ask. Also keep in mind that it is the entry level long travel double crown, Z1 just means 100 to 130 mm of travel these days, not "Super Duper Holy Cow". This same fork last year would have been called a Z4 or even Z5. Having said that, this fork is plenty enough for the average weekend warrior. If you really need more (and yeah, some kids do), take a careful look at the Jr. T.
Go hard.

Great fork for high speed. If your doing "20" foot drops - good luck- there are no shocks in this cost categorie that will help you. I bottom it on 4 footers but thats my limit anyhow. It is adjustable ,read your manual. I never change it once its set- to busy riding. Plush and responsive out of the box. Bomb proof and tough. Great price for what you get. Endless travel.
Weaknesses:
Internal preload adjustments and rebound damping can make initial setup a pain. This is fork is for the rider who sets her/his fork up one way and maintains that setting. A little on the heavy side (you give up weight for strength and lond travel)
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
Specialized Enduro FSR 2002 stock except for the Z.1 Wedge. Giant Rainier SE 2001 stock except for Rock Shox Suspension seat post, and 2002 MXC air fork.
Bottom Line:
This is a well built long travel single crown fork. It is plush and responsive to both large and small drops/bumps right out of the box. Initial setup can be a pain because all of the adjustments are internal. You must pull a small rubber plug out of each side from the fork's crown and then stick an allen wrench into the small hole to adjust preload. Rebound adjustments require you to unscrew the top of the fork's stanchion tubes then compress the fork and stick a rod into a hole within the stanchion tube. Fortunatly, when you get the fork setup, it works so good no more adjustment is needed. This is not a fork for people who must fiddle with adjustments every time the terrain chances. This is more of a freeride fork,. but as an xc rider I like to do an occasional bomber run and love having the extra travel to play with. If you want to do hardpack single track xc racing, forget this fork. You can't get a better long travel fork with the ride quality of the Z.1 for $300.00.

These are really good forks. the only problem is that they seem to bottom too easily, but i'm going to take the advice of the reviewer below this and try getting the oil checked, and changed to 10wt. if it's still too soft (which i think it probably will be, for me anyway), i'll put heavier springs in.
my last fork was elastomer damped, so this fork feels really good to me. the only fork that i've ever felt that felt nicer than this is a Shiver DC. the Shiver SC felt like it ran out of travel a little too soon, but that's probably just setup. this fork seems to do everything well. i've hit 5' or so (i think it was more, but i didn't measure it and i don't want to make false claims) to flat, and over 8' to tranny, and never a problem. they did bottom on anything over about 4.5' to flat though. but to be fair to the forks, they have 5" of travel, to soak up about 200lbs (170lbs me, + 30~lbs bike) of uncoordinated arse before it bottoms. the only time i've ever bottomed them harshly was off about 5' to flat, when i nosedived. but then the guy in front of me bottomed his Shiver DCs off the same drop.
the forks are just solid, never any issues with them. i'm gonna experiment with the oil, and see if that helps with the bottoming. otherwise top-notch!

Oil height comes too low stock. Marzocchi really needs to step up the quality control in this aspect. Pretty much every fork I've dealt with from Marzocchi came with low oil height.
For those of you that assume the springs are too soft, make sure your oil height is correct first, if that doesn't work, switch to 10 weight oil and you will see a HUGE difference.

Bombproof FR HT. Believe me, it's bombproof... for the most part anyway ;)
Bottom Line:
Good fork.
Check oil height. If low, and you're bottoming, try topping up with 10 weight. If you still bottom too often, change the oil over completely to 10 weight. After this if your big ass is still bottoming this fork, get some heavy, or extra heavy springs.
Good price, value of 5.
Poor quality control contributes to the poor overall rating of 3 chilis.

Incredible value for money! the internal preload isnt really internal, just flip off the cap and adjust with a 4mm hex key. the dampaning is a bit more fiddly but not a major problem especially as you dont really have to adjust it a lot. i have found these absolutely faultless so far, apart form them bieng slightly on the soft side but i am about 65kg / 10 stone, getting harder springs soon. a great all round fork, ive found them good for light xc licght dh and jumping as well as a good dose of freeride and street. woth the soft springs and a soft dampening these things really do smooth outh the rough stuff. Exelent Marzocchi engineering!

Weaknesses:

Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
This fork is incredible for the price. While the adjustments are a little more difficult to do in comparison to other Marzocchis, it shouldn't matter as this fork is very inexpensive. It has just as good of a feel as the Z.1 freeride, at a much better price. If you are looking for a 5" travel single crown, and like to adjust the fork and leave it, this fork is for you. Weight shouldn't be a concern, as the plush feel of this fork can't be matched by any of the other companies that I listed above.

Weaknesses:
The only bad thing about this fork is that it's under-sprung. I've only had the forks for two weeks, and i've already bottomed them (they don't bottom harshly though) several times, and never off anything big. I have already ordered some heavier springs though, and they're reasonably cheap, so it's not a worry.
Similar Products Used:
Psylo (WAY undersprung!), various others

Bottom Line:
These forks are really nice forks. I took them for an all-day bash on some fast, rocky, bumpy etc downhill runs yesterday, and they're SO smooth and plush. Another rider i was with had Psylo XCs, and while they were ok, i could bottom them out by bouncing them with my own weight (i'm about 77kg), so i could really see and compare my forks with some others. The compression damping is about spot on, and the rebound adjustment makes a very definable difference. The oil in the forks warms up and thins a little too when you're riding, meaning the damping is lowered, so they feel over-damped when "cold" (first thing in the morning etc). The ONLY problem with this fork is that it is under-sprung. I'm not a particularly heavy rider (i think 70-80kg is average weight of adults, not counting extremeties of course), and i think that the springs need to be a little stiffer. However, i can see why, these forks are not really designed to be full-on "big-hit" forks for 15 foot drops, they're designed to smooth out the trail and take heavier hits than 3" XC forks can handle. and they do that, very very well.
all in all, a very well put together fork. aside from the springs, i see no need for a better fork.

These forks are the dogs nads!! If you buy some of these you will not be sorry. That was the best £160.00 I ever spent, even at the full retail they would of been worth it! Maybe a bit soft, but that is so easy to put right. Just change the springs. All you do is undo the top caps and out they pop - simple. If your into riding up hills don't get these though. They will make you so tired, cuz' all your energy goes into pushing 130mm of travel through its stroke.

Very plush and strong too. Put together well, look the business. VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY, you get a WHOLE lot of fork for £190 GBP. Very smooth and comfy, plenty of travel (110mm version)
Weaknesses:
A little weighty if your a weight freak but id rather have a heavy fork i can rely on. Seem a little too soft (110mm version) Ive actually bottomed them out by forcing all my weight down on them hard and im only about 13 stone. I dont know why they are so soft, ive put them on full spring preload but do i need to make adjustments inside the fork? Is it possibly just that they need time to wear in? Any explanations would be great as i would like them to be a lot harder than they are.

Very nice forks, ive ridden cheep forks before but spending out a little more gets you a great set of forks. I'd like to know why they are soooo soft as they seem to run out of travel very quickly. Any freeriders, jumpers out there: did you make adjustments inside the fork? Ive stiffened them up as much as i could from the outside. Let me know at davidpingu@hotmail.com

This fork is the deal of the century. I found it on sale at price point for $249. How the heck can you beat that for a fork that works this well. This fork was as big of a difference for me as going from a hard tail to a dual suspension bike. My old Z.3 was a good fork but it doesn't hold a candle to the way this forks eats up all obstacles (sp?). Confidence inspiring to say the least.
One nice thing is that I can swap out the pre load adjusters from the Z.3 over to this fork. Marzocchi keeps it's designs so similar that some of the internals like the rebound compression shaft and knob could probably be transferred also, but I like the idea of a sealed system. Way less item to fail in the long run. Just change the oil once in a while. Ba-Da-Bing!
