Strengths:it's a marzocchi! plush!
Weaknesses:a bit of flex.
Similar Products Used:z.1's,
Bike Setup:manik single speed.
Bottom Line:I like this fork. it does flex for me but the amount is not noticeable while riding (if you look at the fork and hammer the brakes it moves). I've never had tracking issues. It's plush! if you can get it for 250 bucks or so there is no reason in my opinion to pass it up! I'm looking to purchase the DC version to try it out, too.

Strengths:Strength, Feel, Look
Weaknesses:Soft setup little too soft for the bigger stuff
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi Dual, White Brothers DC110
Bike Setup:Identiti 666x, Single Speed
Bottom Line:Awesome forks, been jumping, street and freeriding for 2 years on a set, survived a week in Morzine this year, hitting 10-15ft drops with ease, Go for the stiffer setup - my soft ones tend to bottom out on the bigger stuff (not that they're designed for it anyhow) def as good as the duals I ran on old setup.

Recommneded for general all round riding and not too be shy'd away from even for dirt jumping and street - would def buy again.

Strengths:You can take this fork of any jump or drop and not bottom out! It's amazing how with 5 inches of travel you can take on any level of riding! I'm a dirt jumper and this is a great all around fork! If you don't like upside down forks than this isn't the fork for you.
Weaknesses:Most people say that this fork is a bit flexy? But to me I weigh 120 pounds and I have never felt it flex. So no weaknesses really.

Strengths:Looks great, plush and smooth, tough as a nail...
Weaknesses:Weight, a little flex if u are going fast and leaning HARD in to a turn
Similar Products Used:2002 Marz Z1
Bike Setup:2002 Norco 4x4, RaceFace Prodigy DH cranks, Shimano Deore XT derailleur, Fox Vanilla R, Sun-Ringle Singlewide rims, Juicy brakes
Bottom Line:great forks. i do a huge amount of north shore riding and all kind of freeriding and this fork did not disappoint me. i have blasted down whistler a-line and it took a huge amount of punishment and its working fine. i took a while to get all the adjustment to the way i want it but all forks require that break in time.

the other reviews keep saying the there is huge flex with the forks. of course the forks will flex if u put them between your legs and twist. u we are applying way more torsion than it is intended it u do that. i only felt a little...and i mean little when i was lean hard into a speedy turn.

they do weight a little more than i expected but since i dont climb with them or anything like that so no biggy.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $370.00
Purchased At:Cambria
Strengths:Lighter than an 03 Z1 FR, 20mm means I didn't have to relace my already-20mm wheel. ECC. HSCV damping.
Weaknesses:Not much. Could be stiffer, then again it could have more unsprung weight, and the damping probably wouldn't be as good.
Similar Products Used:Shiver DC, Super T, Z2, Z1, Jr T. Those are the similer ones, pleny of other "dissimiler" ones...
Bike Setup:Azonic Saber.
Bottom Line:I've just been tooling around on this after installing it but it has definitly impressed me. I took it and ran it into several square-edged impacts and the fork action is noticably better than most everything I have tried. The damping is just perfect. The ECC works nice too. Haven't used it on any extended climbs but I like what it does. I may come back and review later after I have more time on it, but I can definitly say that initially I am impressed. Stiffness(twisting) in any inverted fork is going to be less than a standard. This doesn't mean that it isn't "stiff enough" though, there are benefits to being inverted, and for-aft its going to be stiffer than a similer standard fork.

I got a great deal, so value 5/5. So far the fork feels great too(pretty much right out of the box), so good that I'm giving it 5/5 here too.

Strengths:Plush, looks great and will take a fat tyre.
Weaknesses:Twistin'
Bike Setup:2002 Enduro, Hope, King etc.
Bottom Line:I just wanted to make the point that my forks *do* flex on the trail. I got so damn annoyed with all the initial problems (end cap, oil level etc.) that I just put up with this now everything else is sorted. If, however, you want to see how the flex will affect you on the trail then try riding along and applying the front brake hard and watch the front wheel. Tell me that it doesn't track left...

Sure, I don't really notice this when I'm gunning along but it's not true to make out that these forks don't flex at all when riding.

Favorite Trail:Takasuyama, Fukuoka, Japan
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Purchased At:Came on bike
Strengths:Very plush, superb damping, strong
Weaknesses:Weight, cost, weak knobs keep falling off
Similar Products Used:Rockshox Psylo, Manitou X-Vert, Bomber Z3
Bike Setup:Initially Giant AC1. Then Trex VRX
Bottom Line:Simply can't fault the performance of these. Through rough sections they just transform the bike. They came stock on a Giant AC1. I rode it once stock and then swapped to Psylos to cut weight and improve climbing ability. They're now on a friend's Trek. The Trek is a different bike with these fitted. Over rocks, logs, and down stairs they're magic. They're pretty good on fast cross country sections, but are a pain for long climbs. The ECC helps, but the Psylo's adjustable travel is a far better solution.

Adjuster knobs just won't stay on. That's pretty pathetic for something this expensive.

If you're looking for a strong fork that will handle big hits and float through rough stuff, these are what you want.

Bottom Line:Okay, way too many guys on here that don't know how to set the preload on a 20mm axle fork. Assume you've already got the axle through the wheel and the fork:

- Insert the axle until it's flush with the edge of the dropout on the stanchion opposite the axle nut.

- Torque the dropout bolts to the proper torque on that side ONLY.

- Now set the bearing preload by torquing the axle nut on the other side.

- Tighten the dropout bolts to the proper torque on the side with the nut.

- That's it, at this point you could even remove the preload nut if you wanted to, there's no way the axle is going to loosen up.

Bottom Line:If you think twisting the front wheel between your legs is any indication of this fork's strength you're wrong. I weigh 210lbs. and this is the stiffest fork I've ridden to date. You would think that because it twists so easy by hand that it must be squirrelly on the trail. This fork tracks great, it has saved me a couple of times in situations in which I thought I was going over my bars. Not for XC or downhill but a great freeride fork.

Weaknesses:knobs suck! broke the rebound dampener on the right side off the first week i had the fork, and the rebound dampener and ecc knob on the left side are falling off now, Kinda makes me mad but it doesent effect the performance at all. Its a bit on the heavy side for a single crown fork but noone is gonna buy this fork to save weight, thats xc crap! Its kind of expencive.

Strengths:The inverted motorcross technology design. Allows the travel to feel more plush. So many controls on the fork. Helps to fine tune your suspension so you can accelerate out of the corners. The cool ECC lockout.
Weaknesses:Took me a while to figure out all the adjustments that you can make to the fork. For the longest time I hated the fork it felt like it didn't get any travel. Then i finaly realized that the little screw on the right is the rebound screw. A couple turns of the screw made the fork feel more plush.

Weaknesses:bit flexy.. but not noticeable when riding
crappy fenders snap of if you smack into trees with them!
(although they did save my stantion)
Bottom Line:I also had a bit of a problem with the axles loosening off after riding. I figured that i was tightening the end cap to the right torque, but what was happening was that the cap was tightening directly against the axle, so i put in a spacer beween the cap and the fork, and this enabled the correct torque to be applied to the hub. this was with a hope bulb hub. also i realised that when it says to compress the fork a few time to seat it all, you need to have the bike upright - all i was doing was pressing on the bottom of the fork legs when the bike was upside down. if you just do this then you will probably find that the wee clamp bolt things loosen up.

Strengths:Excellent travel for a lower crown fork. ECC lock-out feature is easy to access on-the-fly, works very well and is invaluable when making a long steep climb. The fork is very tunable, and with some effort, can be setup for any performance requirement. Setup is very versatile and can be made extremely stiff and hard, or soft and plush, or any variation in between and applies to both compression and rebound adjustment. Next best thing to a heavier long-travel fork.
Weaknesses:Internal spring spacers are made of plastic and are susceptible to cracking or chipping, as mine did. Though I have never felt the fork bottom, I'm assuming that bottoming them hard damaged the plastic as opposed to a material defect. I've replaced with milled aluminum tubing which are, of course, slighty heavier. Though rebound dampening control is broad and easy enough to adjust using the small flat head adjuster-screw, compression damping is a lot trickier to set. Contrary to popular belief, the spring tension adjusters are for preload or race-sag adjustment only and will not modify compression stiffness significantly. If the forks sag to much when you are sitting on the bike, then you will need stiffer springs. If the forks bottom when you hit rough terrain, then you need a heavier fork oil. Compression adjustment is actually made by changing the viscosity of the fork oil and by slight changes in the oil level volume. This means completely disassembling both forks after draining them and cleaning all internal components, then refilling by careful measure. I personally, do not consider this process a weakness. Though it is a hassle initially, once you determine what the right oil viscosity and volume level is to fit your own riding style, this fork is a lethal weapon in the hands of a skilled rider. The absense of mechanical aptitude or know-how on the part of the operator/owner is probably the products greatest weakness. And, when combined with Marzocchi's severly limited and cryptic technical manual, much more responsibility falls upon the owner/user.
Similar Products Used:Rockshock Judy and Boxer, Marzocchi Z1,Z2,Shiver DC
Bike Setup:2002 Intense Uzzi SLX, Race Face Cranks, XTs, XT disks, Sun Rhino wheel set.
Bottom Line:I weigh 190 lbs. and have found the stock springs to work fine with 3/4 to 1 inche of sag (full weight on the bike, feet up). Fork oil is "hugely" significant with any Marzocchi oil dampened fork. I experimented with different brands and viscosities and have settle on a motorcross fork product called Belray. I've tried 5,7, and 10 weight viscosities and have found 7 wt. to work best for me at approximately 10% volume over the factory recommended hieght level. Seven weight compresses a little faster than the stock oil, which I personally prefer, and provides a plusher ride over a hard packed rough course surface. On soft terrain like sand or loose dirt, I'd use the 10 wt, or a mix of 7 and 10 to produce a stiffer ride. The "usable" adjustment range for the rebound dampening control also increased with the slightly lighter oil. The stock fluid rendered any rebound settings below 6 turns out, pretty much useless as the fork would simply release way to slowly. However, after installing the 7 wt material, the usable range increased above about 3 to 4 turns out. (When the forks rebound to slowly, they actually feel like their bottoming-out or knocking when hitting the rough.)

The factory recommends changing oil every 100 hours, but the stock 7.5 wt oil that came with the fork, began falling appart much sooner than that and had much metalic break-in debris, which is not good to leave unchanged for to long. I'd suggest changing the stock oil as soon as possible or no later than 50 hours.

With only 5 inches of travel, this fork is not a competitive downhill race fork and at just above 4 pounds, it is not a competitive cross-country race item either. It is, however, the perfect fork to train for downhill racing when you have a long climb to get to the top to start each run back to the bottom. It is also the perfect fork if you like cross-country riding that involves long, technical downhill descents with jumps and smoking your friends to the bottom.

I was bottoming them on 6 ft drops and I'm 68 kg's. The new springs are the second firmest you can get and are PERFECT. I now have forks that can be set up for downhilling (real soft and quick rebound ) and for big drops ( firm with slow rebound ). These forks are now as close to perfect I'm going to get for my style of riding. I free -ride but I also ride to the top not shuttle. Bottom Line:I was a little dubious of the fork when I first bought the bike cos of some of the stuff I had read about flex. I persisted after contemplating Super T's (this would void my frame warranty) and I am happy. Ideally on this bike I would like a 6/7 inch light weight triple clamp fork but cos of warranty I can only have a single crown. The fork does have some flex but it is only noticable if you hit a "large" rock side on, in which case the wheel deflects (a little) around the rock. This is not always a bad thing and has actually saved me a couple of times. Other than this small problem (and it is small) this fork rocks. It is VERY adjustable and can easily be set up for all kinds of situations. I have done 8 foot drops on it and it doesn't feels like it bottoms out. Make the rebound fast and high speed fire roads are never long enough cos of the speed you can achieve comfortably. These forks are also "Very" easy to service and downloading the manual is definately recommended. Also dont expect the forks to be at their best inside the first 20 hours of riding. They take a while to break in but that has to be a good sign for durabilty of the bushings. They get 4 chilli's in value cos they aint cheap so try and get them as original equipment not after market. 5 Chilli's for performance

Nothing special nothing bad...just ok travel. Even when I just took it in the parking lot before I did any riding on it I wonderd why the bike felt slow turning...then I wrapped my legs around the wheel and twisted the handle bars, and yikes, I've seen rubber bands flex less than this thing. I gave it a shot on the trails anyways...but I found that it was flexier than I had imagined it would be. Bottome line..they have to make it stiffer then it'd be a cool fork

Bottom Line:Came as stock on the new bike. I haven't experienced the flex some other reviewers have, I'm 160lbs. It is as stiff or more than my 2000 Z1CR...though the Z1 isn't 20mm. For those of you that like to stand in front of your bike and twist your fork, for whatever that is worth, make sure you preload your fork first as though you were sitting on it.

Very smooth and consistent throughout the travel. It is still a tad soft for my liking, but that's not a problem and I can deal with that easily if it becomes one.

The rebound lockout is really cool and works great, but I doubt I'll ever use it except for entertainment purposes.

This is a great fork, but I wouldn't buy one....just too expensive when you can get Z1's for so much cheaper.

Bottom Line:This is a follow up to my previous review.

I've had the forks for nearly 2 months now and I seem to have resolved the problems I was having with the axle coming loose. The solution was, as I was told, to do up the end cap even tighter than before despite the fact that it seemed to be verging on rounding off the hexagonal slot. I purchased a torque wrench and now use that to set up the end cap and pinch bolts just to be sure. Since that point everything has been fine except that after my last ride the end cap completely seized and when I went to remove the front wheel the end cap slot rounded off. My solution was to file the end cap out to take a larger allen key (8mm in this case). I am being sent a replacement end cap free of charge. I'm still not sure why it seized and whether this is an inverse situation of the axle coming loose on the trail, i.e. whether pinch bolt torque is critical. Overall I'm still not very happy with this part of the fork, but....

The performance of the fork on the trail is excellent, and that's got to be the deciding factor. They seem to have bedded in now and they're getting plusher and plusher each time I ride. Despite the fact that they still flex badly if you twist the wheel against the bars, you really don't notice the effect when you're on the trail, and on big hits you appreciate why you bought these forks in the first place.

Aside from a few niggling problems with the axle and flex I think this is a good freeride fork that performs where you need it to. Given the chance again there's probably a 50% chance I'd buy it, but if you're the type of person who takes the front wheel off every ride then you might want to consider something different.

Bottom Line:The torsional flex doesn't seem to affect the trail characteristics of this fork although I'm not to keen on the front wheel being able to move. It doesn't inspire confidence. I'll be keeping an eye on them and if it gets worse I might try shimming the bearing surfaces. Other than small flex probs these forks rock. They particularly like landing high speed lauches and drops and are very easy to adjust on the trail if needed. The ECC is a good idea and works well but it doesn't help much lugging a 32lb AC1 up hills(not much is going to help apart from shedding some of the weight)

It would seem that there is a set up problem with these forks, Some find them Flexi some not. Well I have rum my forks for the last 2 months and find them no different in the Tortional flex department than my original Psylo forks. I would even state that under braking the performance is significantly better without the left leg twisting. I have also tried Z1 MCR with and without the through axle. There is very little differens in the twisting stakes if this is at all a key meassurable in a forks performance. This fork is a big leap forward after my original Orange Z1 Bom Bam which had more twist than a Go Go dancer. This is not a standard design and people should spend more time setting it up properly. Brian from Marzocchi USA is also a great help with any problems.

Similar Products Used:Z1, Forx, SX-Tis
Bike Setup:2k2 Specialized Enduro Expert, Hope bulbs/M4s, RaceFace, Easton, XT everything else.
Bottom Line:I've had this fork for about 3 weeks now and I have noticed the same problem as has been described here by others - that of the forks flexing torsionally but nobody else has mentioned that this results in the axle coming loose. Each time the fork is twisted even slightly i.e. as you ride down a rocky decent, the axle rotates a few degrees in the drop out. Repeat this a few times and the end cap which pulls the axle tight starts to undo slightly. The result of this action that the axle works very slightly loose, say about 1mm, but this is enought to cause the wheel to start rattling. Admittedly the effect isn't severe enough to cause the wheel to fall off or anything but a rattling and sloppy front end isn't what I was expecting of these forks.

I've just ridden for 10 minutes on the road and the wheel is rattling again.

Any advice? Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

...Marzocchi's advice was to do the bolts up even tighter. I have. It makes no difference.

My advice - if you're thinking of buying these forks don't do it yet. Wait another few weeks and see what happens and what other people say. If you get a chance to ride 'em then do it and look for this effect.
