Submitted by suicidebomber a Downhiller from Philippines
Date Reviewed: July 29, 2007
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Hand Me Down
Strengths:Very responsive and plush, It keeps me planted well, and can hold its own on drops, stair gaps, and is bulletproof.
Weaknesses:Graphics look tacky. A simple "Bomber" decal ala 2003-2004 Marzos would suffice.
Similar Products Used:Tried a SR Suntour fork for a short while, then had this.
Bottom Line:I first found this on a Giant Xtc. When I found the money I switched the frame to a Chucker 2.0. DH and FR is a cinch in this. The fork gets very busy in my DH trail that is nothing but rocks, and it never gave up. And at drops, it only bottoms out when you land nose first. But it's now getting a tad soft, maybe I needed new oil for it... but all in all, a great fork.

Favorite Trail:Hudson park
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $150.00
Purchased At:From friend who beat on it daily
Strengths:Will not bottom out, Incredibly well-damped, plush, and responds to the slightest movements on the ground below it whether it be a pebble, or boulder!
Weaknesses:After all these ears, it has about 3-5mm of sag, even without a rider. The dual preload adjusters set all the way down don't do much else either. I'm sure a fresh set of springs will fix it though!
Similar Products Used:I work at a bike store....I see and try a LOT of different forks. Pace, Maverick, White Bro's, RST, Rock Shox, Manitou, Mozo, SRT, Spinner, Marzocchi, etc....
Bike Setup:'07 Intense 5.5 EVP in gloss black w/rp23, Awesome forks, Mavic X3.1, WTB/Maxxis tubeless, Dirty dog rotors, XTR, Sram X-9, Holzfeller cranks, Hollow-pin chain, Thomson post and stem, Easton bars, Deore XT Hydro brakes, etc...
Bottom Line:Well, It's 2007 now and I love this fork so much, that it's on my brand new Intense 5.5 EVP. I'm not even kidding! The only work thats been done on this fork in over 5 years, is 1-1/2 oil changes and a seal kit which by the way, It didn't even need. For a fork being labeled a "dirt jumper" at just above 5lbs is quite amazing. It is strong though. I've bent pro-flex frames in half with this, I've jumped off walls to flats, ridden up a 5-set of stairs going 20mph, jumped down 3 consecutive sets of 4-set stairs etc...you get the picture. After all these years, the springs feel a bit looser and/or weaker, but it only gets better!

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:a very good bike shop
Strengths:price, strength, durability, takes big hits well, good seals and bushings
Weaknesses:none really, could have more external damping options but at this price that is asking a lot. Perhaps small bump compliance could be better, but that may improve as the bushings wear in.
Similar Products Used:Manitou sxr, psylos
Bike Setup:fsr xc with front disk brake and dh tires
Bottom Line:this fork is great, and a great value for the money. It offers tonnes for what would have cost you lots just a few years ago. My riding has definately moved up a notch. Although I have only owned the fork for three months, I would still recommend it highly, especially if you ride in BC.

Weaknesses:none, except maybe that the stock springs were just way too soft so I kept bottoming out the babe. I had new green 100mm ones installed to solve the problem. No problem ever since.
Similar Products Used:RockShox Judy XC(no good), Marzocchi Z5

Strengths:stiff and looks nice. price
Weaknesses:at the beginning the fork doesn´t work really well. when u ride it for a while it´s getting better. but it still gives a kind of hit to u cuz the springs are so strong. it cracked in the time of about 2 days, but that´s ok cuz i use discbrakes.
Similar Products Used:judy sl, manitou sxlt

Bottom Line:this is a really good fork if u are heavy enough for the standart springs so on a downhill u get problems cuz it doesnßt absorb all the hits. at urban and dirtjump riding this fork is great.

Favorite Trail:road to avonlea
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $339.00
Purchased At:Cove bike shop
Strengths:I've been reading some of the other reviews, and I have reached certain conclusions. Given that a) Your weight falls within healthy ranges as outlined by various medical organisations, b)You do not assume that the name "Dirt Jumper" entitles you to exceed the structural limitations of a medium-travel singlecrown fork, i.e. landing backwards halfway down 14-sets, taking 55-foot cliff drops, etc, and c) You realize that for $339 Canadian a fork should not have to nake up for your inherent lack of skill and/or natural shock absorbtion capacity (you guys riding duallies on blue trails, you do realize there's a reason we ride bikes and not motorcycles, right?), given that you recognize the three points above, these shocks should absolutely kick ass for you. And if I could italicize 'kick ass', I would. I've been riding them on the four-inch setting up seymour and fromme on a hardtail and have had no problems at all so far. Ever so plush, lightweight (as far as bombers go), good climbing, stiff, strong, and did I mention they look great? I mean, I have a bit of an issue with heavy-metal culture but if they're called dirt jumpers they might as well have heavy-metal lettering. Although, as my metallica-loving, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, etc. worshipping, mullet-clad, bass-playing friend mused, 'it could be heavier'. This is the guy who, upon seeing my new hayes discs went "aw, cool!" and grabbed the rotor with his greasy little fingers. Oh well. He's a good fellow. So what was I saying? Oh yeah, these shocks are bomber-liscious. Gettim.
Weaknesses:None so far. I had them set too squishy though at first and they nearly bottomed, but they're great so far. I've taken some really hard falls, too, and they've held up great. So no weaknesses.
Similar Products Used:Atom 80s, Judys, Manitou SXs, cross-country forks basically. The Atom 80s are actually really nice if you like that type of riding.
Bike Setup:A black hardtail with black parts and now black shocks too. (i mean, who cares?)
Bottom Line:These are far superior to any other single-crowns I have ridden and I can safely say that at least as far as black-rated shore trails go they should hold you. If you're not morbidly obese or a terrible rider or Joe Bender that is. I mean, if you're rich and/or an extreme rider you should go dual crown, but what am I saying? Even rich kids should learn to ride on less-than top-of the line bikes, it would at least keep them from clogging the easy trails on five thousand dollar downhill rigs without knowing how to ride them.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:crash replacement (cheaper price)
Strengths:-gives good kick off lips
-alot stiffer travel wise than my old marzocchi, at stock setting
Weaknesses:-creaks within 3 days of riding.
Similar Products Used:2001 Z5 long term and almost every other fork for short term
Bottom Line:Good idea, bad design. I love how it gives good kick off the lips of jumps, but within 3 days, maybe less, it has started creaking. Nothing but problems with Marz single crowns. After recieving this on crash replacement (cheaper price) for my snapped Z5 (which broke my face) I thought I'd have a worthwhile fork... I was wrong. Any creak implies that the press fitted parts of the fork are not seated correctly. As they work themselves loose, they stress the parts even more, meaning catostrophic failure. Marzocchi and their distributors know the problem, but they are feeding us a load of crap calling it rider abuse. Marzocchi single crowns suck. Face it. And with their 2003 press fitted dual crowns, they are going downhill all the way. I'm not even going to bother waiting for Norco to warranty my fork for me, it took them almost a month just to give me word on where my old fork was. Unless I am guaranteed a brand new fork and the problem is fixed, I don't see a point in wasting any more money on Marzocchi.

Similar Products Used:RST Gamma GL
Bike Setup:2002 Scott FX-2 G-Zero, Mavic rims, 800lb rear spring, hayes disks.
Bottom Line:These forks absolutely rule. I have been riding in the RSTs for some time now and these make a huge difference to the way the bike performs. Soaks up the small bumps and then is progressive enough to take the larger hits. I might increase the oil level - but that is about it. The preload adjustment actually makes a difference too. Very happy.

- A Lot Of Flex
- 'M' Arch Gets Crapping When Running V Brakes
Similar Products Used:Z.1, Psylo, X-Verts
Bike Setup:Kona Stuff, Hayes Disc, Dice Wheelsets, 9 Speed XTR, Truvativs
Bottom Line:I snapped my fork in half on a 15 stair when riding to school! I landed about 3/4 of the way down and there was a loud bang. When I got down the bottom of the stairs my whole wheel was stuffed. This fork is not very strong, I had hardly done any DH Tracks on them, I only used them for jumping 15 foot jumps! These forks might last a while if you ride up and down your street!
Don't get me wrong I like Marzocchi forks, but they should be stronger than that!

Bike Setup:'98 Marin Mt. Vison Pro, XTR drivetrain and brakes, XT shifter/brake levers, LX/DT/Mustang R wheel, Sunrace/DT/Mustang f wheel, Kore bar and stem, Mich Wildgripper XLs, Haro Mag pedals.
Bottom Line:For $350-$400 retail you get a damn good fork for the money, it's ready for anything out of the box, and shouldn't need serviceing for 100 hours, unlike some other brands. If your new to drops, or are just a big guy this is a great fork. If you've been doing it for a while, get the DJ1, you need it.

Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:they're plush and relatively stiff for a while. after a while though mine developed some flex. the five inches of travel is nice for drops and hard landings...that's about it.
Weaknesses:they break. if u actually ride street or urban and are doing tricks where you are landing backwards you'll snap the sliders completely in half like i did. then marzocchi won't warrenty it b/c you were jumping on it...kinda weird how u can't dirt jump on a dirt jumper 2???
Similar Products Used:z.5s, z.1s, x verts, jetts.
Bike Setup:2001 p.3 medium, used to be a dirt jumper 2 b4 i broke it..now i dunno. kujos, stock alex rims, truvativs, snafu pedals, azonic bars, kore stem, odi lock ons, etc.
Bottom Line:not a bad fork if u could ride it what it was intended for....if only they didn't snap in half they'd be a lot better. don't get me wrong, i love marzocchi, but when u snap your fork in half, they shoudln't just say they can't help u. bummer

Bike Setup:DJ2, Specialized Hardrock, Mavic, Avid Brakes, Shimano/Rocket Drivetrain, Azonic Risers/Stem
Bottom Line:Good value for money. Just built up my bike last week and took it out on the trail for the first time. DJ2 took the hits very well, from not-so-big drops to stutter bumps. The dirt on the stanchions after the ride indicated that I had used the full extent of travel although it never felt like it--never felt the fork bottom out during the ride. Not too much bob on climbs which is great. While preload adjustment is provided, I left it stock and it still felt great. Didn't feel any flex either although that may be because I'm no North Shore freak and am a light rider, too. Will probably get the fork dialled in on the next ride and see if I can squeeze more out of it. But this is a great fork and would recommend this to anyone looking for a budget long travel fork.
