For being NIB forks and costing 350, That is a strength let alone. Super strong. Super stiff. Super reliable. Still havent changed my seals or oil yet and its been a year.
Weaknesses:
Nothing. I guess marzocchi didnt remember that people were too stupid to read the instructions, hence the cracked lowers. Thats not really a weakness tho, just the riders weakness.

These forks rock. I havent changed the oil yet, They will fit literally any frame on the market. And I mean any. You cant do that with most other forks. I ran into a hidden 2ft tall cement drain pipe when I was doing a creek run at my favorite trail, popped both tires, bottomed forks and rear. Nothing happened. That was it. No snapping, no cracks. Ive beatin the hell out of these forks and they still ride like new. Im getting new lowers put on to keep them going, they are that good. People who say they cracked the lowers are puttin way too much torque down. I tighten the piss out of my stuff and never had a problem. If you broke a lower spend the 150 and get some new stronger 2007 lowers. Not that hard. People complain about problems, I would like to see some rock shox or manitous take the abuse these have. A+

Bike Setup:
888s on my 05 manik with double track in the rear.
Bottom Line:
It has now been a full year after i purchased the fork. It still feels amazing, very plush, but once you use around half of the travel the compression adjuster kicks in and thus the fork becomes bottomcless. The rebound adjustment make this fork easy to HUCK off of a 20 footer and not worry about the dreaded "KLANK" of a fork that bottoms out. The external adjustments also make this fork very versatile, you could go from dirt jumps to freeride hucks, straight to the race track, and the fork wont even flinch!!! IT is reasonable in weight at a sturdy 7.8 pounds, and i enjoy the tall axle to crown height because it feels at home going down any technical descent, or any sketchy rock gardens. This fork is the best all around dual crown fork out there, and you can score one for cheap on pinkbike.com.

Great for. DOnt listed to all these negs. Ive taken a 10 and 4 20 foot drops. Forks still on. Still ridable. I rip the hell out of trails, ride urban, and dirt jump on my dh. Never had a probelm. Even rocketed my bike 30 feet in the air from a 14 foot lip. Came down, bounced about 5 times and landed on sanctions. No scraches, no dings. Went out to ride today, beat em up on a huge 2 mile rock garden. soacked everything up. I wont use another fork. Tested, and true. Marzocchi rocks. I used their bmx forx for quite some time, and now these. Also use bombers also. LOVE ALL. Try em. Wont get rid of them.
O last comment. If the people that say they break were right, then why did specialized put them on their demo 9's. HUH. They test everything to days end to make sure its worthy. And it was. Hense why it came standard on a 4k+ bike. They woulda gone to fox if they saw such better ferformance to price ratio. To this day they still come stock with 888's so do the big hit 2's. Nuf said. Boxxers work perfectly well for only a short time but a marzocchi will be working perfectly even 3 years out of the box. I also gained lots of confidence in my riding because I knew that my fork would hold up through anything I could throw at it. Boxxers are great too but they aren't as reliable. Manitou's are reliable but they are heavy. 888's are perfect =)

None really. Maybe the tall crowns if you're picky.
I am really surprised with all of the negative reviews. This fork is so nice, I can't imagine it getting better than this. I did have to adjust the oil levels and the preload clips for optimum performance but this is an individual preference thing. I wasn't getting full travel so I dropped the oil levels to 185cc in both legs, now I get full travel on the biggest hits. I changed the preload clips to one level lower and the top out clunk disappeared. The compression and rebound adjustments work great. You can tune this fork to just how you like it. As far as performance goes, if you take the time to learn about it and tune it, this fork absolutely rocks. Don't know about all of the broken lowers and such. Their stories are unfortunate. Marzocchi tech support is a little slow. Be careful with those preload clips. Changed to Risse drop crowns and made a big improvement to handling. This fork has inspired confidence in my riding and saved me from many crashes. I have had no problems with it in the past year and recommend it for DH and Freeride. The best fork I have ever ridden!!

after a season of use i was inspecting the fork prior to this season of riding. i noticed small cracks in the lowers around the axel pinch bolts. took it to my lbs and the wrench said it should be a warrant issue. called marzocchi...what a joke. mike in the warranty dept. said that i must have over torqued the bolts to cause the cracks, i should have only tightned the bolts with a torque wrench. no warrany replacement. quote was,"i have sent several of these forks to italy with the same issue and none of them were covered by marzocchi." i argued that this is a user serviceable item, when we flat on the trail we are supposed to be able to take this wheel off and on with a multi-tool, when was the last time any of you carried a torque wrench on the trail. i understand that if you abuse something it will break. this does not seem to be the case here. the problem seems to be in the design. marzocchi said no warranty, luckily SPECIALIZED stands by their products and agreed to pay half of the cost for the repair, shame on you marzocchi, kudos to specialized. i have a barely used 888 for sale, new lowers, anyone interested??????

Well, I have ridden the 888 a couple of times because most of my riding buddies have these forks. ALL of them have broken in one way or another. The first to break was a guy who races alot....He totally snapped the lowers in half, it was truly ugly. The second one, something happened with the internals, the fork locked up and would not slide. He is not a very aggressive rider, but he is heavy at 260lbs. The third was another break, the stanchion brace snapped in half...last but not least, a pinhole was dicovered on one of the lower legs of another one. The hole apparently had been there the whole time he had the fork, but was not seen because the paint was holding in the oil...the paint chipped and the pinhole started spewing oil...Seems to me they have some issues with the casting process that need to be straightened out. Also some issues with their customer service, everyone had to pay something for to get repairs done.

I am very happy with these forks. I was a bit put off by the price, but they are worth it. Zero stiction out of the box & no break-in needed. The adjustments actually work- the rebound can be made rediculously slow. The compression is for END STROKE. Some people say it doesn't work, but it only works on the last few inches of travel. There is a compression sleeve available from Marz to adjust overall compression. You can tune the ride quality with oil height & weight(I like to piddle with this kind of stuff). You can change from 7" to 8" if you want to using a kit from Marz. I was WAY impressed with the stiffness of these forks. Riding the technical dh trails at Bootleg Canyon really shows up any flex, and these have none. Well done Marzocchi!

I am reviewing this fork after months of use. I hate this fork. Right out of the box the seals were leaking like crazy and when i sent it back, I had to pay for new ones(fortunatly labor was removed, considering i hadent even put the fork on my bike yet). It took about a month to get it back which cost me the first two races of the season. It put me off to a bad start for the season already. After i got it back it was working great and was tuned to my weight better but then it started topping out and making funky noises. It finally just pooped out several days later and would not respond to any adjustments. Spoke to a tech and they said i would have to pay for the fork to be worked on. What the heck!!!! i didnt do anything to the fork(one day it was working and just a few days later it was dead) it cost me another 3 races by the time i got something worked out. This fork caused me many problems such as Money, Races, and Many Crashes because its lack of performance. I am totally pissed off with this fork and all the hype about it. I am going to switch to another more reliable fork before i every take a chance with a 888 again.

Bottom Line:
Finally a double plate fork from Marzocchi not so heavy, to be used also for racing purpose; it's strong and you can trust about it in every condition. For 200 mm of travel and a weight around 3,4 Kg it's one of the most light fork on the market. I think that now this is the best choice you can make.

Stock settings suck, Wrong oil levels, spring preload, no compression sleave.
Similar Products Used:

Bike Setup:
02 Turner DHR
Bottom Line:
I’m surprised at all the stories of broken ones on here. Mines worked great and I tend to break a lot of parts. My old z1 broke twice at the crown. The Fly that that the fork was mounted on broke in 5 places, I’ve never had a frame last me longer than 6 months “The Turner is number 6.”. My triple 8 so for, has done really well.
I read a lot of reviews about people just giving up on this fork with out trying to tune it. Mine did need a lot of work and experimenting from the stock settings to get it right but once done the triple 8 kicks ass.
Go-Ride.com has a great article for those interested, you should definitely read it before taking the fork apart if you’ve never done it before.
Anyways here’s what I’ve done on mine.
Stock settings: Stock the fork came set up with 7.5wt oil and no spring preload, I’m not sure of the oil level. My first ride I was pretty displeased. The fork wallowed in it’s travel. It dived in the turns and bottomed on 3ft drops. It sucked.
Next I notched up the spring preload and raised the oil levels to 170mm. This made a big difference the fork didn’t bottom out as easily, and road a little higher. But still was too soft for me . After that I change out the oil to 10 wt at a 170mm level, the thicker oil made it lose a lot of the small bump sensitivity. I had to run lower tire pressure to make up for it. Despite that, this was the best setting so far. No matter what I did the fork wouldn’t bottom. It felt really good on the steep rocky sections. It no longer blew through its travel, and the suspension was much better balanced when turning.
Still it could be better. So next I bought the low speed compression sleeve. This made the fork perfect. The sleeve makes the compression dampening kick in at a higher spot in the forks travel. With it in the middle setting the compression dampening starts at about the last 2” of travel. Opposed to the last 1” with out it. Anyways with the sleeve now I was able to run a lighter oil to get a really supple fork and still never bottom. With that I couldn’t ask for more.
If yours isn’t working right don’t give up on it so easily. There’s a lot of different ways to tune the fork beside the external knobs. Experiment for your self and find what works for you.

Strengths:
Good for both FR and DH. Just turn the dials. Very plush. Easy to adjust the fork's dampening. Very stiff because of the big stanchions. The adjustable external dampening is really effective. I got the heavy springs put in before I even tried the stock ones. I was suprised how well the stock 7.5w oil works. Usually I have to run 15 or 20w in my shock to get the correct damping for big drops even when running heavy springs. With this fork you can use all the travel, yet not bottom it out if the dampening settings and oil levels are right.
Weaknesses:
Oil level was 7 mm low on both sides. The shop caught this before giving it too me. I had to spend $80 CAN on stiffer springs and I only weigh 175 lbs (the usual deal from Marzocchi). The integrated stem didn't clamp my bar well at all. It would spin even though it was the standard dia. I had to change it to a normal stem because it wasn't safe!

I just got a 03 super t pro for 300 bucks and it kicks ass. my 888 is hanging on my garage wall with a sign that reads I suck, to remind me to not go for the latest greatest thing just because it's new. My super t is way lighter than the 888 and works like a charm. Tough as nails. 8" of super plush travel. Probably just as plush as the JnrT, however with compression, rebound and preload settings, which makes it totally dialable, and desirable. Looks bad. Soaks up everything I put in front of it. Doenst bottom out easily.
Weaknesses:
Internal Preload...however its not that bad, because it takes about 10 minutes to dial the C-clip down a couple of notches. I guess it is tall, however that also doesnt take much to get used to. If you cant, get lower it an inch with the lowrider crowns.

If you can afford it....get it. I was thinking of either the 888r or Shivers and I am glad I got the 888r. I am sure the 04 Shiver is also sweet thought. I decided on the 888r, only because everybody up at Whistler rides this fork. Well, not everybody, however it seems at least every 4th or 5th bike has a 888 on it. However it feels super sweet, plush and has not bottomed out on me, after I adjusted the C-clip. I weigh 210 and I kept the stock firm springs in there, and it is perfect. The compression and rebound adjusters work great. Marzocchi really made a quality product here. Adjustment of the c-clip was easy and fast. I run a 24inch wheel in back, and the fork did rake out my front end a little, however it didnt really slow me down. It gave me so much more confidence. I started nailing sections, that previously looked a little scray, with easy. The fork just soaks up everything in its path. It does its job with flying colors. Get this fork if you just want something that does everything. Sure, and Dorado is better for aggressive DH, however the 888r holds its own also. Just a great fork all around.

Both the compression and rebound knobs have 25 clicks from zero to full. Turn them all the way to zero and then turn them to half way (about 12 clicks) adjust a few clicks up or down from there to get em how you like em. This is what I did and mine are running sweet with no bottom or top out. Easy.

Feels like a Shiver, but with a wider range of adjustability and lighter weight as well as being more durable since it's a right side up fork....less likely you'll damage the stanchions in a crash! And here in Canada, the 888 is less expensive than the 04 Shiver!!??
The guy from Vernon must either be joking or have had some pre-production pair, cause these forks rule.

A great fork so far. I don’t miss the weight of the Monster, and this is just as stiff. The travel is spot on, smooth, zero-stiction and really contollable. The fork is tall, but not overly so, my head angle is just right now on my BigHit. Another bonus is, my HopeM4 front brake bolted right on with a number 8 caliper. Watch the stack height. You can have a maximum of 167mm on this fork between the crowns, (my big hit is 160mm) so make sure it will fit first.
If you’re after going to an 8” fork, I’d say get this. It’s proper Bo I tell thee.
If you want to see the forks in detail, email me and I'll give you some shots.

it looks so good, it would make the other racers stay off that raceline
Weaknesses:
great fork besides the fact that i broke it! i was doing a time trials run and i landed just a little squirly on a jump, the crash wasnt even that bad and she snapped on me. i had a 2001 bullit with a 2001 jrt and everything held up.

Strengths:
veary srtong and indesructible fork, feels like riding on the clouds.
Weaknesses:
The preload is a bit hard to get to but that doesn't matter, the springs how ever should have a wider range of strength for the heavier riders, but over all the shock performs well so you dont have to worry about it that much.
Similar Products Used:
shiver, jr.t, super t.
Bike Setup:
doesnt matter, its probly better than yours
Bottom Line:
The fork seems as if it was specificly designed for racing in that it rides using the most of its travel all the time. If yor a big hucker i would recomend that you look into heavier oil and springs, but it takes a realy good hit to bottom that fork out even right out of the box. The fork is worth every penny but if you want a good deal on stuff call Gary Selner at HAIRY GARY BICYCLES @ 1(509)533-2788

Strengths:
Nice stroke, end of stroke compression works well, actually has rebound adjustment. Feels bottomless on drops with end of stroke compression cranked up 75%. Very smooth and compliant to small and large impacts. Great turning clearance.
Weaknesses:
Tall ride height-with 2.7 tire, still 1.5" clearance to the crown at full compression. Limited frame options due to maximum 167mm stack. The stiffest spring avail is 17in/lb each leg. This is equal to a Boxxer Medium. Call Pohl Springs (509) 535-3648 for custom wound springs ($60 per set). You may have to remove the weird preload rings and move the piston up to make it work. Shim the piston with pvc off top cap. Stem is weird. Crowns seem a bit wimpy. No external compression adjustment.

Bottom Line:
Very good fork. No flaws that cannot be fixxed or replaced and seems to have the M feel. Would definity reccomend to anyone.

Strengths:
Very stable confidence inspiring fork.Much less flex than my Shiver. Plush as hell. External rebound, compression and internal prelod adjustments works like a charm. It is truly a motocycle fork with out the weight-7.8lbs. almost the same weight as the super T. Travel bottom less- hit 8' to flat. can't bottom this one. looks Sweeeeet!
Weaknesses:
Make sure the bolts holding the damperning rods at the bottom of the slider are tight. My right bolt came loose after my first ride and a lot of the oil in the slider leaked out. No problem. called the boys at Marzocchi from the shop the following day and was riding 30min. later.

Wade Simmons edition RM7 with 888 and Intense mag 30's lace to the best hubs on the planet-DT Swiss Hugi free ride 36 spokes. Every thing else stock. By the way the frame set is for sale if any one is interested e-mail me.
Bottom Line:
what can i say, if you got the cash and you are in the market for the best weight to performance ratio fork on the planet with 8" travel get it. If you can't afford one so what, all that really matters in the end is meeting up with friends and ripping in the woods. Go ride! 10/5 flamin chilis for this one.

I got mine for $1300 canadian much stiffer than super t or shiver but more flexy than a monster... extremely versatile and very adjustable. You can go from the slowest fork ever made to springy enough to give harsh top out! amazing what they can do with forks now. I have already opened up the fork to change preload setting and it was extremely easy to do...so maintenance isn't a problem... 3" gazzaloddi fits with 3-5mm all around the arch. wow finally a real dh fork.. it weighs 7.8 pounds not 6.5 like that idiot before....
Weaknesses:
decals...futuristic but somewhat lame..... love the black
Similar Products Used:
2002 super t or 2003 shiver... what the hell was the first review guy talkin' about...that guys a retard. if anything it feels like a cross between a boxxer and a shiver...
Bike Setup:
2002.5 gold bullit, 5th element, chris king components, 888r, raceface, mavic, gazz...hayes 8", need i say more
Bottom Line:
If you want an affordable, amazing fork you cannot go wrong with this. You can adjust it to meet your bikes standards with ease (my bike is slower)... amazing, great job MARZOCCHI!!!!

Read the label. It's a Marzocchi! It beholds everything that you could ever dream of in a fork... stiffness of a monster.... buttery smooth travel.... AWESOME valving.... as light as a junior at only 6.5lbs!! I mean.... what ISNT a strength about this fork i dont know!! the stiffness gives you the confidence and dependability you need to never hesitate anything while riding.... the "i wonder if my bike can handle this...?" question is deleted! If you EVER go wild on a new fork... go wild and buy one of these... everyone who can afford one should have one... this is by far marzocchi's best fork yet
Weaknesses:
The only weakness is the inability for stupid people to not be able to pronounce the word marzocchi... MAR-ZOH-KEY thats the only weakness this fork could ever conjure up

Foes DHS-Mono 2003 with Titanium Spring, Atomlab trailpimps on custom foes hadleys handbuilt on DT Swiss champ, Next LP carbon cranks with RaceFace Signature Ti BB, Fusion pedals, Titec El Norte Saddle strapped to a thomson post, integrated stem on a azonic double wall riser with Hayes HFX-Mag 8" hyrdos and Tioga 2.5 White tigers filled with Gazzaloddi 3.0 tubes.... and OF COURSE... the TRIPLE 8..... if you wanna see a tight pic of it check www.pinkbike.com go to photos and look up Foes
Bottom Line:
The bottom line.... If you have the money, make no hesitation to get to www.bikeroom.com and buy a 888 right now.... There are absolutely NO weaknesses about this fork and i think personally it puts any other fork made by anybody in the dust behind me on A-line. GO BUY ONE NOW AND SHOW IT OFF TO YOUR RIDING BUDDIES
THIS FORK GETS 7/5 FLAMIN CHILLIES!!!
