its a great fork for everything. It was built more so for cross country but it has toughed out street, trail, dirt jump and drops. The fork is all around great, never bottomed it out, easy to adjust air pressure, looks good and it only weighs 5lbs which is a great weight considering it will take anything you throw at it.
Weaknesses:
none..

Bottom Line:
This fork performs excellent in all biking fields. It is a great fork for anything and good for beginners and experienced riders. The weight is perfect for it, only 5 lbs, but i have been worried at times as to whether or not the fork will be able to stand up. but its taken everything, great purchase!!

Smooth, great ride. I'm into everything mountin bike. i've taken this thing on a Kona on magor dirt jumps, urban riding, all mountain, and downhill. it's seen it all, and it's still kickin'. I really love this shock. I haven't had a problem. it was so perfect, i haven't touched since i got it. I'll admit I came from a Rockshox Dart-one, but I still get compliments on the trail.
Weaknesses:
It seems pretty light. I'm concerned about it's strength=gth, but I'm pretty paranoid.

Bottom Line:
This is pretty exceptional. i bought the bike for a wicked $300, so I'm not sure about price, but this is better then anything I've ever owned. I have had virtually no trouble with it over vast terrain, so if you're looking for an "all-planet" shock, this is it.

Weaknesses:
Heavy, made in Taiwan
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
Mine is a late model of the two chamber type (EXR comp). It has one side air and the other side oil / coil spring.
Ignore skullcrusher's comments. He does not know how to adjust his forks. With the correct adjustments these are great.
When I bought it the air pressure was low and no adjustments had been made to the damping / coil preload. After looking through the manual and making the correct adjustments for my weight the shock is nice.
It does feel stiff when riding on the road or on light trails. But hit it with anything larger than your fist and you start to feel the damping. And it feels really good on landings - like the front wheel is hitting a pillow.
It does not make silly puffy noises that you might expect from other shocks, so sometimes it's difficult to realise that it is working at all.

Strengths:
i put steps on the lowers and turned the fork upside down...it works great as a pogo stick. if you get this on a p2, trash the bike cuz it totally sucks and just use the fork...its worth at least twice as much as the whole bike itself!!
i get a lot of "damn, its an EXR comp!!! ive wanted one for years! can i hav ur autograph??" and hot women chase after me waving their phone #s. i showed it off at work once and the next day i got a promotion and a raise.
Weaknesses:
people try to steal my new pogo stick when they see me freestylin' down the street. also when this was mounted on my ugly worthless p2, the forest rangers were after me a lot...the fork was so good i would ride straight down the hill without a trail and obliterate all trees and wildlife in my way and fly off 30ft drops and not even notice. i was slapped with a cease and desist order, reason "fork is too hardcore" and i also got a $10 fine. oddly enough fines from forest destruction are covered under the warranty...i guess marzocchi knew how awesome the fork would be!!!

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
this fork is worthless. buy it as a joke only, or put it on your kid's tricycle. it may make a good doorstop too.
if you put this on your bike, it will jackhammer you even if you roll over a hair. i swear it amplifies shocks, not absorbs them. going down a smooth trail with no obstacles its fine, but once you hit a few small bumps or roots, it feels like a size 10 earthquake.

The way bike company cut cost but the suspension is good in terms of ride feel and the performance doesn't match the price at all. For a fork at this price, it surpasses my expectation and perform very well. I've had this fork for 6 years, I've beat the crap out of it... and it keeps on tick'n! Just recently it started bottoming out, just needed to replace a leaky air valve. It's been through XC trails in Banff, Canmore, and now lives in Mammoth and So Cal... it's invincible! This fork is very, very very(did I say very?) stiff, tuff and reliable. I've used this for first as a cross-country fork on a cross-country bike (it's what it's intended for by the way you 15 foot droppers...) and It did the job very well. Then I discovered freeride... and this baby got a nasty beating since then lol until I changed bike to better fit my needs. Nonetheless It doesn't ask for more but it doesn't hate it either. By the way, I find this fork to be stiffer than my Marzo All Mountain 3...
Weaknesses:
Well, it's got 100mm (4") of travel, but remember it's a cross-country fork. It's only got preload adjustments, but they work well.
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
For a cross-country fork, it can withstand severe (SEVERE) abuse. It's a very durable, stiff, smooth and durable (man i really got to stop saying that lol). I wouldn't even hesitate to use it for light Dirt Jumping and Urban assault so much it's tough.

It's got plenty of travel for xc riding, almost too much for some things. But it's saved my bud when I didn't pick the best path through a rough patch of roots or rocks that would have sent me over the handlebars otherwise. I REALLY like the way this fork feels. If you don't want to spend over $300 on a fork, look for a EXR Pro.

I've had this Front suspension on my bike for a few days and find it works great. I have noticed that when I push down on the shocks it sounds like there is water in it. Is it supposed to do that or not. I'd really like to know.
It is a good fork...welll.............not so good but...... not really bad.
Weaknesses:
very spongy, flexy, It feels like a little bit less than 3" of travel.

Bottom Line:
This is the EXR COMP!!! (worse than EXR PRO, for shure)
I know this is not a Z1, I already know this is not an RST or mid end manitou or rockshox fork. It is a cheap fork that never surrender in the little extreme xc and ocational light downhill. I'm Clydesdale (220 pounds) and this fork work fine for me. I'm improving my forks, and this exr comp is the best fork I ever owned. I'm saving for a Shiver sc or Z1 fr. Those would be a really good improvement.
Value: it came on really nice bike at 600 USD, 5 chillies!! Overall: Because it is not a marzocchi high end fork, 2 chillies!! Overall: Because it is better than other brands mid end forks, 4 chillies!! Overall Average: 3!!!

Bottom Line:
I have no idea why manufactures put this fork on all mountain or trail bikes. It's clearly not suited for this type of riding, it bottoms out, flexes like crazy and it cannot handle drops or climbs. It's a XC fork, not a trail fork.
If you want a better upgrade (but cost is a factor) save up for a Marzocchi Z1 Wedge/Drop Off II or Manitou Minute 1:00. Personally, I'm getting the Marzocchi Z1 Drop Off II.
Oh, those of you guys who use this fork for freeride/dirt jumps, I can't believe you are not in the hospital. Go learn what forks are proper for what riding and you won't be posting stupid flames on forks that you screwed up because you used it for the wrong application.

Ultra flexible, looks ugly to me, paint scraches like nothing, and it sucks! , unless this fork came on your bike, it should never be on there, buy a dirt jumper or z.1 , or go huge with z150 or jr.t and super T, but whatever you do, never get manitou, exception for dorodos, but they arent what deserves to be on a bike. This is a bare bones shock that works fairly well without the bells and whistles. It is a nice upgrade from the low line RST, Rockshox, Manitou forks put on many cheaper bikes. I replaced a crappy Judy TT with it. The Judy had stiff rubber elastomers that got even stiffer in cold weather and it weighed about 3/4 of a pound more than this Bomber. While the Judy was billed as an 80mm travel shock, in reality, I was only getting 60mm of travel from it...and then, only when it was warm. Get a full 100mm of travel from the EXR.

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:
These forks, the EXR PRO model, are great. The EXR PRO has EXR written on the inner side of fork legs, the EXR COMP has EXR COMP written on the inside, and the other difference is the stanchions colour, it is silver on EXR COMP and gold/brown on EXR PRO model. Dont get stuck with the EXR COMP, it is a really bad fork, worse damping that a crappy RST fork. The EXR PRO is a nice fork for the pricepoint, handles everthing i have thrown at it from 4-5ft drops to light XC use. The standard 7.5 weight oil is pretty low quality, it looked to me like a yellow mineral oil, you will get much better performance out of a synthetic oil. I have moved to a 5 weight MOTOREX synthetic oil and the fork is just butter smooth on the fast rutty sections, whereas with the standard oil it seemed to pack down a little as the rebound was too slow. It has bottomed out a little since the oil change, so i will either raise the oil level slightly or maybe brew up a mix of 7.5 and 5 wt oil till I get the right mix. It has alot of adjustment in the oil level and type, have a go if the rebound seems a little slow. I have ridden the for for about 4 months and the original oil was in pretty bad shape. It was dirty, and had some metal flakes that look like they have come of the springs , but nothing too major just rough bits left over from manufacture, one oil change will get rid of this. Overall a great fork for the price, handles everything from light freeride to XC and AXC use. Just make sure you change the oil after a few months of use, after all you would change the oil in your new car after running it in wouldnt you?

Mine is the new 2004 EXR Pro Coil model. It's not in the system yet so I'll give my two bits here. Nice and plush in the minimum dampning it comes set at.With smooth stokes it didn't bob much really, but since I weigh 160ish and commute on it 100 miles a week or so ,I set the dampning all the way stiff and it's still pretty absorbent. Alot of room between the extremes to dial it in with.It has surprised me how well it adjusts from feeling rigid to soaking up what ever I smack into. I certainly feel safe about any normal jeep trail ruts, roots etc. at high speeds. It's not meant for any real air time so enjoy in moderation and I bet you'll like it. I have the air fork and I weigh 225 pounds with my pack and gear and this fork works as awesomely as my Atom bomber! I think it is actually better than the Atom fork because the progressiveness is stiffer than the springs of the Atom fork and it works well with me for cross-country riding. It has worked well with tight singletrack and small rock dropoffs too. Just recently had the seals replaced and rebuilt after 2,000 miles (well past the recommended guideline) and it still works great. If you're on a budget this is the fork. No problems here, just lots of time in the saddle.

When the tubes did get dry, it wouldn't absorb the bumps as well.I was told to put tri-flow on them on a regular basis and I never had any problems with them getting dry after that. I did up to 5 ft. drops with it and never had any problems with it, except if I didn't turn the preload up, it would bottom out. It's not really built for that, but it held up very well. I would recommend this fork to anyone who doesn't want to spend alot of $$$ and isn't concerned with having alot of adjustment. It's a great fork for the price! Buy it!!

Strengths:
The oil system is good, the dampening makes for a smoother ride, the shocks are very plush, good for cross-country, small drops no bigger then 5 feet, and good for small downhills.
Weaknesses:
Bottom out easy if you weigh over 95kg(200lbs), little soft.
Bike Setup:
2002 Brodie Hellion, shimnano componants, brodie seat, handle bars, and stem, and motor raptor tires.
Bottom Line:
these are good shocks for the average rider, but if you plan on doing bigger things then you should go for something like the Z1's.

i upgraded to this fork since my bike came with a exr comp stock i rode it once and it was a pile so i upgraded for 80$ it good because i only weigh 120 pounds so i can use the air preload to adjust so i can actually get some travel out of the fork . Unlike other coil only forks which i cant adjust enough to be loose enought for my weight . well the fork is pretty good for what i paid for it it takes all the drops and bumps i throw at it and theres no flex or anything maybe due to the fact im a lite weight .

I would have thought that after one person told you to stop that you would, but no... anyway back to the fork, I is really good, I think its the best fork aviable for the money you pay. I've playing with the preload adjustments and have found a good balance between the front and back of my bike, it really feels good to me. A really good entry level fork? The questionmark is because when I state entry level I exclude pogo sticks that are sold on budget bikes. The EXR does what a fork is supposed to and is reliable, well built and looks good. It is way ahead of RockShocks - have a look at the crown thickness, reliablility and build quality across their range and you'll appreciate my comments. I checked the price at another bike shop if I were to buy the EXR's as an individual item - $542AUS - YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING! If I was to add up the individual cost of components on my bike it would be around $3000. OK I understand when you buy a bike complete it works out much cheaper, I just can't come to terms with $542 for the fork. The industry is a joke!

I'd usually say, 'do your research', but Marz slipped this one in, as did the bike companies. Bad business and definitely not a good way to gain the trust of new customers. If I were Marz I would offer a trade up program to the EXRs for $20.
Other than that... the EXR non comp is an excellent value for the dollar.
