Strengths:good for anything. these shops can take major jumps and drops. good for jumping and freeriding and also crosscountry.
Weaknesses:no weaknesses
Bike Setup:Norco Sasquatch - hussefelt mostly
Bottom Line:I bought these dirt jumpers 3's because they are better than the newer ones. I took off my Z1 Sport forks that had came with my bike because it was to soft and too hard to set...also their are air leaks in the Z1 Sport suspension. I bought the DJ 3's and they are alot tougher. I have had no problems with these shocks so far.

very good suspension for bikes. these dirt jumper 3's are a must buy.

Purchased At:River Valley Cycle
Strengths:Pretty Hardcore so far... '05 120mill QR20.... I like the fact that your front wheel is locked in and there's no way it's gonna fall out... no hard landings... soaks bumps up good
Weaknesses:makes weird noises once in a while...*or it could be my hydraulic brakelines compressing* I have never been able to figure it out
Similar Products Used:The 3 inch version
Bike Setup:Rocky Mountain Flow 3.0
Bottom Line:Beware of landing nose heavy. You have been warned... Went off a jump that gave about 3 feet of air... went dead sailor and totally landed nose heavy... made a weird noise. I think it almost bottomed out. I have taken it off larger jumps and it is fine. This fork even cuts it okay as an trail riding/xc/urban commuter fork. It worked well during some dual slalom runs and an easy downhill course. It handles drops and rocks well too. I have liked it a lot but am still looking to upgrade eventually to a rock shox pike... because my flow deserves way better that a dj3. Dj3's make good begginer forks...Just no nose heavy landings

Bike Setup:Modified Kona kahuna (betd travel plates)xo derailleur, x9 shifters, deore hydraulics hope rotors, x lite stem/seatpost, truvativ cranks, sun rims, maxxi tyres
Bottom Line:Excellent fork upgrade. Recommend heavier weight oil over standard as rebound is harsh and can buck if you are not a heavy bloke. Use my bike for everything Nz downhill courses local trails and jumps. Have beaten them on english downhill tracks (bringewood, fort william etc) never had any problems. Drops do not bother them (saved my nuts many a time)Now run only 8lb air and 10w oil and are sweet for my weight (76Kg). Ridden lots of other forks and none feel as secure (single crown) would like to change as they are old but only the fox 36 feel stiffer and are the price of a complete bike. They have seen far less servicing than the rear of my kona which has been through two shocks.
A good fork that lasts which it is what its all about.

Strengths:This fork is so nice once you tune it to your riding style. It is an amaizing fork and it can take some big hits. I like how sturdy it is and i think the 03 is better than the 04.
Weaknesses:The only down fall that i see in this fork is it makes it really hard to hop a curb but it just takes time to get used to it. It takes a little more effort but it is deffinatly worth getting used to.
Bike Setup:Giant Warp DS 2 i have blackspire chain guide, FSA cranks, Kona pedals, azonic head lock, Power Tools stem, Kona Grips, Avid Mechanical 6 inch discs, They only stock parts left is the handle bars which new ones are already ordered, frame, and rear shock.
Bottom Line:This is a great fork for doing urban or freeride i would highly suggest it to anyone who want a burly fork that can take some big hits. I think it is one of the best forks they have put out. It isnt for people who are doin extreme downhill or black diamond trails. It is for people that want to drop a six footer and not worry about the fork failing or breaking. It is a good fork to start urban too because its not to pricey.

Bottom Line:I have been riding this fork for about a year now, and I have yet to see a major problem. I have rode it loads of places, the day I got it I even tested it on a few drops and stairs. The fork will take a little while to break in, but it will eventually.
I've tested this fork at Northstar, Various Trails, Stairs, Drop off's, and the Sea Otter Course. Even after a year the fork sucks up a lot, yet doesn't bottom out easily. It runs nice, I like it. One thing for sure is when I test rode my friends DJII, I didn't notice a huge difference. I just assume that there are different internals in the DJII. But I haven't broken my DJ yet, and I saved a few bucks.

Complete Bottom Line: Can't afford a really nice fork, then this is the fork for you. Only bad thing is that it doesn't have a lot of tire clearence. (2.5 Max, but I run a 2.6) My tire caked on mud and scraped off the paint one day. Oh well, its a fork. Great Value, and I'm assuming Marzocchi would live up to their warranty if I were to break it. But that would be hard to do.

Not too many flaws, I reccomend it! I like mine a lot!

Very little maintainence compared to psylos, no plastic to snap, nor too many internals to maintain. Had problems with psylo's lock-out and u-turn (i think i got a factory lemon...), I've had the DJ3s for 12 months and they're still running like new with very little work.

Great for the price, if u're on a budjet and looking for the best bombproof fork that u can use anywhere, then the DJ3s should definately be on ur shortlist.

Price Paid: $269.00
Strengths:Cheap as hell, strong, torsionally stiff for a fork without a 20mm front axle, looks killer, air/oil/coil adjustment combo.
Weaknesses:A little heavy, factory spring rates are too harsh for most riders, can only use that goofy looking (and overpriced) black Marzocchi/Acerbis fender for those so inclined, no rebound or compression adjusters. The last one is not really a 'weakness' but definitely makes adjustments more time consuming and involved.
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi MXR coil, Marzocchi Jr. T, Fox Vanilla R, Marzocchi DJ2.
Bike Setup:2003 Norco Atomik (The DJ3 came as standard equipment)
Bottom Line:In stock form, the DJ3 is great for jumping (what it's intended for), but rather harsh for trail riding, or even downhilling. They work reasonably well for freeriding, if you're doing a LOT of drops, etc. However, for the money, you can't go wrong. They're simple, strong, and work reliably.............the sliders, stanchions, and crown are all the EXACT same parts that come on Marzocchi forks costing twice as much.............and if you know anything about the internals of 70's and 80's-era motocross forks, you can get these things to work just as good because you've got the ability to infinitely adjust the air (pressure and volume) and oil (vicosity and volume) in the fork. And if that doesn't work for you, you can mess with the spring rates too (although that will cost you some beans). Heck, I'm guessing you could revalve them too, if you really felt like investing some time in them. It's just that you're going to have to do it yourself, not just turn a knob or a dial. For the $200-250 I'm saving, I'm okay with that though.

If you need/want QR20, or have a little extra dough to spend, you can also go with the DJ2. If you want a bit more adjustment and versatility, try a Fox Vanilla R.

But, at the under $300 price level the DJ3 sells for, it is the BEST fork on the market, period.

Strengths:The first thing you'll notice about this fork is how daaam BEEEFY it iz. And the fork is really stiff with no detection of lateral or fore and aft play which is attributed to the 32 mm stanchions. The fork looks real cool too. Gothic writing and a glossy black paint job. And the crown is cromed out. Polish it every once and a while and it will stay shiny. Air assist preload is a nice touch. Although i don't really use it. Very plush on big hitz. Soaks up the big stuff beter than the small stuff.
Weaknesses:The biggest weakness for me was that because this fork is set up to really jus take a lot of big hitz it suffers on all the lil hitz. So while it feels nice on big drops and jumps, regular trail riding is a bit bumpy and choppy. If dirt jumping is all u do on ur bike then this fork is perfect. NO REBOUND!!!!! Rebound would really make this fork sooo much better considering itz major flaw which is a lack of slow speed compression damping.

Strengths:For the price...£210, whatever that is in $US, this fork has no weakneeses at all. OK, so it's not a Shiver, but then it's a lot cheaper. It looks great, all glossy black with gothic lettering, ol' Mazza Manson would have one if he was into MTB and not just a skinny rodhead.
I haven't bottomed it out yet, which is something of an achievement seeing as I weigh 16 stone in British money, which is like er, 224lb for you American types; and I use it to jump off walls and stuff onto flat concrete landings. I could adjust it if I wanted, but it worked so well straight from the box I haven't bothered. No flex at all. As previous reviewers have said, it's a heavy lump, but then if you want to fit this kind of fork on your bike you're not likely to be an XC racing snake.
Weaknesses:Not gonna say weight (see above). The only thing I can see is Zocchi really ought to get together a 1.5 steerer version.

Bottom Line:Great fork from Marzocchi. The rebound damping is alittle quick so I would suggest taking out the stock oil, and put is a heavier viscosity oil (10 wt, or even heavier). The air preload is actually a nice touch, that way the fork can be soft enough to soak up small bumps, but the spring compression ramps up so that as the fork compresses it becomes harder.

A hint for lighter riders, you can remove one spring, to make the fork softer.

If you want the fork to be lighter, you can also make the fork into an air version by removing both springs and pumping in air.

So you can't run a tire wider than a 2.5 (or in some cases 2.7). Do you really need to run such a wide tire? NO.

Strengths:Stong 32mm stanctions, progressive spring, cheap quality fork that works great. I like the idea of the air preload, as long as the valves keep working.
Weaknesses:Tire clearance. I cant put a 2.5" tire on it without it rubbing. My 2.7" maxxis (really a 2.4") wont fit on it, but it did on my old Z3. What's up up with that, why evolving backwards. Dont they know that people run big tire now. It's not like the old days with Z2 atom bomb fork and skinny tires. And i dont like the idea of the cryofit either. It doesnt work on my old Z3's and i am worried that it will eventually start creaking on this fork.
Similar Products Used:Z3, old Z1 without cryofit and bolt on arch (kicked ass, but i made a mistake and sold it), manitou black

Strengths:What isn't strong? 32mm stanchions, monsterous lowers and the biggest crown I've ever seen! Feels sooooo good too. It jumps like no other.
Weaknesses:None, really. I could say there's no adjustable rebound, but its set right where I'd want it anyway. The few weaknesses there are (axle, rebound) are on the 2&3. I weighed it with the steerer cut and it was 5 pounds, 1 ounce. But as stated below, "its either heavy or broken," right? No 3-inch tires either.
Similar Products Used:I had an '01 RS pyslo XC for 18 months and broke it before this. I've demo'ed Z1's, Jr. T's and other 'Zokes. Fork RockShox, dude.
Bike Setup:'02 stinky, everything stock except rims, tires, fork, rock ring, grips and seat. And other little goodies.
Bottom Line:For a dirt jumper / freerider strapped for cash, this is the one. Rock solid, supple yet still stiff. If you can get it for under $300, its an awesome deal. Air preload is a real nice feature, too. With no air pressure in it I can't quite bottom it, even when trying from high places. I think the air volume ramps up considerably at the end of the stroke.

Strengths:Seems indestructable. Damping system superior to Manitou's. Excellent value, even it you have to pay the MSRP. Compare this fork to the garbage from Rock Shox and Answer at this price point.
Weaknesses:Heavy.
Similar Products Used:Manitou Black Elite
Bottom Line:Ignore many of the posts below. The DJ 3 is a 5 inch stroke fork with no adjustability, no semi-lock out, and stiff springs. This fork is tough, but the only thing that makes this fork a "dirt jumper" is the stiff springs. This is called marketing. IT is basically a poor man's Z-1. This does not mean that you have to be some shuttle-runner, hucker, freerider to appreciate it. You CAN use it if you are a Mountain biker, and ride up hills occasionally. The fork weighs 4.75 pounds, which is slightly heavy, but no big deal. Once you get to the top of the hill and start descending, you will realize what pieces of junk all of the other forks made by Rock Shox and Manitou are. They are, literally, overpriced cheap imitations of Marzocchi and Fox. Fork adjustments are something I'd rather have Marzocchi deal with. 90% of bikers out there have no idea what rebound damping is, but they insist on having the option to adjust it. Like they know better than the people who designed the freaken thing! If you want something lighter, and more adjustable, go for the air-sprung z-1 fr sl. It is almost a pound lighter than this fork, and it has the same body.

Bottom Line:So far, this fork rocks. We do late night urban assualt rides, (mostly because that is all we have here in flat Iowa), and I've done jumps onto steps and flat from 3-5 ft. without bottoming these out. I weigh near #160 and have the pre-load set at #20, and it still feels great. If you are looking for a fork that is relatively cheap and still does the job very well, this is the fork for you. If you need all kinds of adjustablity, then maybe you should look into a Z1 or something like it. Not sure if it is set up right, but it still rides better than anything I've ridden to date. If you get a chance to ride these next to a R.S. you'll see for yourself. Hope to have the same kind of review a year from now.

Strengths:good looking, stiff (sometimes)
Weaknesses:I've been riding Marzocchis for over two years now, I started out on a Z5, which came on my 2002 P.3, I broke that, and Marzocchi sent me a 2002 dirt jumper two, under warrenty. Two monthes or so later, I snapped that fork in half on the stancions, and when I had my LBS send it back to Marzocchi, they said that it wasn't under warrenty because I was using the product in ways that it wasn't ment to be used. Soo dirt jumpin on a dirt jumper isn't allowed? I also ride street and park, but my main style is dirt jumping. I paid 200 for a new DJ 2, which I had for only half a year, when the upper stancion on the right side, near the crown split, spewing oil everywhere. My LBS called Marzocchi again and was told that it'd be under warrenty and that they could either fix it for free (rebuild), or send me a 2003 DJ 1 for 280. I just bought a new car, so I'm pinching pennies, and I asked them to fix it for me. So yesterday they called back the shop and said that it's not going to be under warrenty, because the fork has been "abused". When I called the guy to ask him what the deal was, his words were, "well the fork has dings on it, it has obviously been trashed". I said so you're not warrentying it because it has dings on it? I told him that I dirt jump, as the name on the fork suggests, and I asked him if the forks were actually made for DIRT JUMPING, or if that was just a name. His reply was "I dirt jump too, and I must weigh at least 250 pounds, and I don't break any forks" This kids name was Chad. Soo then I said "So you arn't warrentying my fork because I've been using it for it's intended purpose? And he said "you can argue with me all you want, but the bottom line is it's not going to be warrentied". This is the 3rd fork I've broken, the 1st one was warrentied, the second one I had to pay for, and now this one I have to pay for also. I have at least 6 friends here in Ashland who have broken either z5s or dirt jumpers and all of them have had their fork warrentied. Basically, Marzocchi has TERRIBLE customer service, they won't listen to how their forks fault and break, and they won't warrenty my dirt jumper 2, after I broke it dirt jumping. What kind of company is this? I used to love their forks, but I think that from now on I'm going to take my business elsewhere, maybe Manitou with the new Sherman, or Fox. I suggest that if you're considering a dirt jumper fork, or any marzocchi for that matter, I'd do the same. A friend of mine rides a Fox vanilla 125 and was having problems and he called Fox and they helped him right out.
