Favorite Trail:PORC
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $400.00
Strengths:looks great in pearl, nice forks not elixir rubbish but manitous, strong
Weaknesses:found bottoming it out was easy if you stuffed up a drop- 3 foot drop but leaning back to much and scrunch! bottomed the rear sus out,but amazingly no damage
Bike Setup:standard
Bottom Line:excellent entry full sus not for heavy riders doing big drops and getting them slightly wrong (ahem) but if you just like the soft fell of full sus doing trails and are mental than this is for you

Favorite Trail:North york moors
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $1600.00
Purchased At:Bike Scene
Strengths:Cheap and cheerful entry into downhill madness.Looks cool
Weaknesses:Stock Elixer forks are very poor. After a product recall on them and subsiquent mods I lost an inch of the already meagre travel. Frame transfers fell off after a couple of weeks.
Similar Products Used:KHS Montana comp hardtail
Bike Setup:Stock except for DMR chain device and Deore mechanical disc brakes.
Bottom Line:I,m affraid that my overall impressions of this bike are not favourable. It doesn,t cut it as a downhill tool and it is too heavy and the transmission to ineffective for a general trail bike.Save yourself the money you,d need for upgrades and buy a real downhill machine at very little difference in cost. ....... Marin B17....seemed like a good idea at the time !!!

Favorite Trail:all of them
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $2000.00
Purchased At:yorkcycleworks
Strengths:??????????????????????????????????????
Weaknesses:everything
Similar Products Used:gt,cannondale
Bike Setup:shimano xt,rst high 5`s
Bottom Line:undoubtedly the worst bike i have ever had the misfortune to own.The suspension is rubbish,it changed gear as the swing arm moved, the rear bushings gave up after less than 60 miles, the paint chipped,no sensible mounts for bottle bosses, bad frame angles, awful customer service..........God i hated this bike;it cost me a year of not wanting to ride!I`ve never had a decent Marin, they are boring, unreliable and handle like a plate of jelly. If Chris Dekerf had never built a bike and restored my faith in the off-road life i would be a golfer now!

Submitted by Phil Martin a Downhiller from Newcastle, UK
Date Reviewed: February 26, 2002
Favorite Trail:Anything fast
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $1600.00
Purchased At:Denton Cycles
Strengths:Got it upgraded so can only really comment on frame:
confidence inspiring, smooth,
Weaknesses:not the strongest....
Similar Products Used:Azonic Eliminator
Bike Setup:Stratos MX6 forks, Hope Big'uns on D321 rims, XT setup, Stratos Helix DH Pro rear shock, Hope C2 disc brakes....
Bottom Line:A good frame aimed at the beginner or intermediate rider who will use it purely for downhill, nothing stupidly big. I wrecked the frame (snapped real bad) by doing big jumps and drops, one too many hard landings. But for the beginner it is a brilliant way of losing your downhill virginity. Totally inspires confidence and will get your skill levels right up there.
