$1600.00 | | Strengths: | This is a go anywhere frame. Since I swaped out the double crown fork with a longer travel single crown fork the ride became that much better. Would reccomend this frame to All-Mountain riders who are looking for a responsive geometric friendly bike for a mid-size rider who doesnt have 6 grand to lay out. | | Weaknesses: | stock components. As you can see I have upgraded EVERYTHING except for the rear shock and crank set. The decal set is also kind of lame so I trimmed them to my liking.... | | Similar Products Used: | iron horse, crackendale, specialized, kona, GT | | Bike Setup: | Thomsom Elite stem and seat post, Mavic Crossmax Enduro wheel set, SRAM XO shifters and medium carbon rear derailer, XTR front derailer, hayes hydraulic with 130mm discs f/r, Chris King no thread headset, Easton MonkeyLite XC carbon bars, Crank Brothers Candy SL pedals, Fox Vanilla RLC fork, Fox Vanilla RC Shock, SRAM hollow pin PC-991 chain, SRAM P-990 cassette, XT Cranset, WTB standard tires, 2.4 front/2.3 rear with Stan's no tubes sealant | | Bottom Line: | If you are a rider looking for a great bike and have the know how to do your own upgrades and dont have the chedder to shell out for a Nomad, 6.6, or Moment, then this is the bike for you. Since I have had this bike on the trail I have had many riders stop and ask where I got it and if I was interested in selling. You dont have to spend 6500.00 for a great bike. If you find one of these out there somewhere, take it for a ride and dont be gentle or you will be missing out. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | adrenalinebikes.com | | Strengths: | Even at the 10.1 inch travel setting it still feels quick and responsive and not like your riding a huge marshmallow like many other DH bikes with this much travel. It preforms suprisingly well when pedaling up hill (the fully exstendable seatpost helps a lot with this). Having 10.1 inches of travel is very confedence inspiring and eats anything you hit on the trail. | | Weaknesses: | My frame had spacing issues at the pivet which resulted in a lot of lateral play, but I was able to fix this with a couple of washers. The stickers are lame, but thats pretty easy to fix and doesn't matter. | | Similar Products Used: | diamondback xts moto, banshee scream, kona stinky | | Bike Setup: | 05 888rc, wtb laserdisc huds laced to dual duty rims, sram x.7 rear derailuer, holzfeller cranks, | | Bottom Line: | A very inexpensive frame that can be set up to do anything from light trail riding to crazy drops and gaps. As far as geometry this bike feels very different from a Kona that is very low and short. The marin is definetly a long and relatively tall. Having said that the bike feels completely natural on every type of trail. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1900.00 | | Purchased At: | Award Cycle & Sports | | Strengths: | Fun strong bike to ride. The frame has just enough flex to give you that extra feel you need on those bumpy and rocky trails without the weakness felt in other bikes. | | Weaknesses: | The stock SPD VP 133 pedals. | | Similar Products Used: | Speacialized, TREK, Ironhorse and GT DH and Freeride bikes. | | Bike Setup: | Manitou X-Vert DC fork, Vanilla RC shock, HUGO hubs, Hayes Brakes with 8" Disc in front and 6" in Rear, XT rear derailer and Cranks, LX Front derailer, SCRAM Plasma Gripsift, AHEADSET stem and neck, IRC race tires, Ovation seat post and bars. | | Bottom Line: | For the price of this bike you can not get a better deal. The stock make-up is good and with a few upgrades it can be ready for the more experienced rider. After riding dozens of bikes over the years I have yet to find a bike that has the feel that I get from this one for the price paid. Bottom line, this bike is awesome. From the beginner to the advanced riders, this bike will take you anywhere and let you take those big drops and jumps every rider wants to take but was too afraid to do it on other bikes. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2000.00 | | Purchased At: | BENNETTS | | Strengths: | Super plush! Bullet Proof Frame! 7 Inches of travel on a 28lb bike! Low Maintainace, sealed bearing, single pivot design. Great geometry, climbs over obstacles like they are non-existent. Great bike for clydesdales. | | Weaknesses: | A little tough to get the front derailler adjusted correctly. A tiny bit of lateral flex can be felt in the swingarm during hard cornering. Headtube wasn't faced well from the factory (I have a 98 model which was built overseas though). | | Similar Products Used: | Intense Uzzi, Giant NRS, Trek Steel Hardtail. | | Bike Setup: | White Brothers SC90 fork, Race Face Turbine LP's, XT 8 speed shifters/levers, Avid Arch Supreme brakes, XTR Rapid Rise Rear derailler, XTR hubs on 517's, XT cassette, Syncros seat post, Control Tech DH stem, Bontrager Crow Bar Ti riser bar,Ritchey Logic pedals, Sachs chain. | | Bottom Line: | My frame is the older tube design, prior to the extruded version. It is welded from straight gauge 6000 series tubing. It is basically the same frame as the more common B-17, but with a high quality Fox shock, instead of the cheap generic shock. I weigh 260lbs, and never felt the slightest hint of weakness. Also, this frame can be built into a sub-28lb trailbike, with close to 7 inches of travel!!! The plushness, and ability to clear obstacles is a good as anything else I've ever ridden. This bike is awesome for inspiring confidence, and making you into a much more daring rider. The new version of it is manufactured by the same company that makes the Aeon line for Ellsworth. If you have been considering a Joker, definately look at this bike also. It is built by the same people...because Marin & Ellsworth outsource the manufacturing to the same company! Don't buy it if you are a xc racer looking for the lightest, most efficient ride out there. Buy it... if you want the ultimate, rugged funbike! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$3800.00 | | Purchased At: | Bike Rack | | Strengths: | Same as last 2 years, but they added a rear through axle and reduced the travel to 10.1". Same good old marin quality. Very light weight. The model that I am building is going to be a FR/DH bike and will be about 45 lbs. | | Weaknesses: | NONE | | Similar Products Used: | Kona stinky 9, other konas | | Bike Setup: | 03 Marin Frame, Bombshell Marilyn, Azonic 454 Cranks, 24" Doublewides, 3.0" IRC Kujos, MRP, System 12's, King No Threadset | | Bottom Line: | Gotta love a DH bike that you can still haul uphill for the free riding aspect of it. I have a marin alpine trail that I love. 7" of travel holds its own on the moutain too. At 45 lbs and $3800 (my custom bike) this bike is well worth it. I haven't seen a broken marin yet, and 2 of the people I ride with have one. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
