This is a great fork if you can live with leaky seals. A lot of people have had bad experiences with the steerer tube. BUT think about it. its cromo, wouldn't you rather case a jump and bend your steerer tube, or would you rather have a an aluminum steerer one day just snap on you and cause your face yo go straight into the concrete? I dont see how anyone could go from this fork, to a DJ series from marzocchi and feel accomplished. the marzocchi DJ series weigh almost 7 pounds. this is 5.5 the exact same weight as the RS argyle.
its a great DJ fork, I've even seen many pics and videos of aaron chase riding them. I currently have two of them. one of a GF bitter that I'm working on.
your fork might come with light springs. consider that this is the bike company's fault, not manitou. GF and GT both make manitou install light springs for their smaller frames.

Burly for a cheap fork. Easy to strip and service.
Weaknesses:
Very heavy. Loads of stiction if you don't oils the seals regularly. Grease lubrication, near enough seazed up after less than 20hrs riding. Needed stripping and regreasing, though this isnt too difficult. Rebound adjuster makes little/no difference. Stock oil was rubbish, felt a bit nicer with some quality 15w in.
These forks feel ok, for about five hours of riding, and they just get progressively worse as the grease runs out, then then they need stripping and re greasing. Its not a big job to do this, with no special tools required. I wouldn't recommend these to anyone but a beginner, and even then your money would be better spent on a budget marzocchi fork. They do look cool all in black, and they are quite cheap, especially second hand. Without regular maintenance these forks will feel very rubbish, very quickly.

The fork also bottoms off of any drop more than a foot unless you lean WWWAAAAAYY back. then maybe you can drop a foot and a half. just jumping up and down on it makes it bottom.

Strengths:
Good for general urban riding and very light dirt jumping. Smooth. Cheap.
Weaknesses:
Leaky seals are pain, the fact they are leaking oil also doesn't help the genral compression. I can bottom them out by just pulling a bunny hop, and even then i can only get 80mm of travel. And the paint, jeeees, i had them for about a week and i managed to cause 3 paint chips from general moving and laying aboutm plus numerous scratches and scuffs from just handling my bike. Also the stanchion anodising wears off ultra quick leaving a weird black/greyish mottled effect which ain't to appealing to the eye.
04 GT Ruckus 2.0 HT, 'zocchi 150mm Z1 freeride, 24inch halo tornado wheels with halo Choir boy lite tyres, Husslefelt cranks bash and rings, Holzfella stem, Hope mini front (180mm) and rear (160mm), some combination of truvative and other parts to form a bottom bracket, sram X-7 rear mech, deore front mech both with the X-7 levers.
Bottom Line:
For the price these are good forks, not great but good, not many forks you can by for this price that feel this smooth. however there are a few problems that need adressing, the first being the seals on the forks and the way that you pull and sort of hop, huck or drop they become a niagra falls of fork oil. Seriously, they need to sort this out, ig ot them through the post, checked 'em over, fitted them and done a quick test ride round my back garden with a couple of small bunny hops and they leaked fluid! Also the way that on cold morning they stiffen up and as the weather warms up they become softer and softer, these are very tempremntal with the weather conditions. And the other main thing is that they bottom out way too easily. A small drop is more than enough, even sometimes i found a high curb could do it. But this said, i found for street riding these are great, soemthing about them just seems to wrk well with concrete, after a while you adjust to compensate for the bottoming out and other flaws. However on dirt these are a whole new story, they seem to sponge over the small stuff and just bottom out constantly on drops and jumps on dirt. Not very good as a trail fork in my experiance. but for the money, they are okay, just don't expect 'zocchi quality, or DJ performance from his fork... and as a last word, these are no way competition for the shermans.

Weaknesses:
paint, the paint wears off too fast, i've had it for about 3 months but i noticed the paint weared off in about 2 weeks. The paint on the stanitions especially. It rubs off because the dirt sticks and rubs against it, so you gotta wipe it very often to prevent his from happening

Some guys say they have bent the steertube and chipped the paint, I don't think that is even possible cause I've done so many things to this fork and none of this BS has EVER happened lol, I guess those noobs don't know how to ride their bikes. -Very stiff fork, almost no flex -Extra plush (some seem not to like it) great for trails and park, not too great on drops. The stock spring are good in my opinion, but replacing with a stiffer one is better
Weaknesses:
-The paint is awful, but chips off easily enough that little sanding is needed for a repaint. -Rebound adjust doesnt really do anything -The 04' stance factory seals are crap (not sure bout other years)--blown off the coping of a quarter withen a couple weeks of use. I suggest replacing the spring and air assist (all of it) with a bigger and stiffer spring. currently using manitou spring used in Shermman Jumper, works great
Similar Products Used:

Considering the price, this fork is great. People can complain all they want about the forks spring and dampening, but it just means they want top preformance out of the box for under $300. Bottom line: Not gonna happen.
This fork is excellent with a little bit of work, by tweaking the dampening and replaceing of the spring/air assist. The biggest downfall of this fork is the paint which practically breaks off if you touch it. Not much can be said about the stanchions anodizing either.
But hey, for all the cosmetic difficulty the fork dishs out, it works GREAT for trails and best for street and park, imo.

Super stiff, laterally, and super plush, vertically. For having only 100mm of travel, the Stance delivers unparalleled plushness and positivity of travel. I only run about 15 psi in my air cartridge and it feels perfect for street riding (I weigh about 150 lbs). The fork also looks super-nice on any black bike.
Weaknesses:
All those people shouting "this fork broke and the steertube is made out of pure dumb" are spouting lies. If you knew anything about proper riding, you'd be able to handle your bike correctly, and then your components would hold up for more than 10 minutes. I have had no problems with this fork. It's stiff, it's not too heavy, and it's plush. I mean, it's only about $300 retail, what more could you ask for from such an inexpensive fork?
Buy this fork if you're looking for a cheap, solid platform for street, skatepark, dirtjump, or heavy XC riding. Don't buy this fork expecting it to be as bombproof as a Dirtjumper, because Manitou has not overbuilt it like Marzocchi did with their DJ line. They shyed away from the DJ's durability because they wanted the rider to be able to lift the front end of the bike up without breaking their back. The Stance is a good 2 lbs lighter than any Marzocchi DJ fork. Manitou set out to creat an inexpensive alternative to their Sherman jumper fork, but ended up creating competition instead. Get this fork, use it for what it was built for, and you won't be disappointed.

Strong and it looks okay. feels nice and doesnt "top out" like most Mazocchi DJ forks. people say it is impossible to manual ... but I find it easy.
Weaknesses:
The finish is already wearing real fast. I only get about 3 inches of travel and I have the 100 version. LEAKS A LOT OF OIL ! bottems out VERY easily. I can bottem it out by putting my weight on the front and pressing down

Bottom Line:
I think this is a a great fork for skatepark, but you wouldent really want to bomb it over a lot of stuff. feels really nice and it is an amazing deal when it comes with the p1, since the P.1 A1 comes with a Marzocchi MZ comp.

Bottom Line:
If you use this fork for DJ, Urban, or maybe something inbetween I think you will enjoy the fork. Its good at what it seems it was built for. I have the 100mm with the thru axle. I don't know anything about the 80mm Standard QR version, but after riding this thing I don't think I would want to go any other way for this type of bike. Please understand I'm not pro Manitou, or anti them for that matter. My oother bike has a Marzocchi Marathon XC which is the best fork I have ever owned, but for this bike. I don't think even the Marzocchi's DJ would even be better.

Awful fork. Dampening is the worst I've ever seen, too soft, and rebound adjustment does hardly anything. Would not recommend this fork to anyone.
Manitou's customer service is good I must say... much better than Marzocchi; however, the quality of products you will get from Marzocchi are much better.

I got the 3" version, 20mm thru axle. Great fork, love it for dirtjumping, urban/street, and skatepark. Holds up real well, takes a lot of abuse. And all at a great low price!
Weaknesses:
The stock spring is quite soft, but that is easily remedied with a stiffer spring. I also found that the seal on top of the lowers on the left leg (spring and air side) comes up the stantion sometimes. This can be bad for people who have air in it, as that lets all the air out.
Great fork for the price. Definitly recommend upgrading the stock spring, as it is REALLY soft. For dirtjumping, urban/street, and skatepark, this is the fork to have, performs well and takes abuse. And obviously, not great for shore trails, but thats a given. 5/5 for value, 4/5 for overall.

All of my friends have screwed their forks up whether it was seals, steerers falling out, bent steerer, fork stopped compressing... I think the first gen has some serious issues, but if you tune it right and take care of it it'll work fine! Manitou needs to listen to the riders and fix this stuff for next year tho. Otherwise, pretty nice fork :)

Here is the deal... This fork is crappy, don't buy it. The only thing good about it is that manitou customer service has been great. These are busting on everyone I meet.
I weigh 140lbs and bent my steertube in 3 days, no big crashes, just regular DJs. The crown/steertube pressfit got all bent and twists and other things that it shouldent do. Manitou also is now saying that the fork should run 0-40 PSI, not the 30-150 that is listed in the manual (it is for a different model) or you will blow seals. This makes the fork way to plush for even me. My thru-axle was also messed up from the factory, yay.
So everything that could have gone wrong with this fork has, manitou has been there to support it so far and that is the only good thing I can say about it. By a different fork.

Weaknesses:
--> When I first got the fork, they wouldn't compress. This was my first Manitou fork and I figured maybe that was normal?... so after I press down really, really, hard they finally compress. It seemed wierd at the time, but when I put them on my bike, everything worked great and I really liked them over my dirt jumpers. I also notice a loud "knocking" noise when they almost bottom out, but that was the case on my dirt jumpers so I ignored it for the first 2 weeks. Given time, my forks would only compress about a fourth of the way then completely stop. So I write to Manitou and within a few days I get a call and an email. So I send my fork in and about a week and a half later it's back and working great (they gave it a complete rebuild)
I can't say enough about Manitou's customer service / warranty department. Top notch. The fork may of had a problem to begin with but after the rebuild they have been good to me and I like them more than my dirt jumpers RIP. Great price too, go buy them.

Strengths:
Stiff, not too heavy (5.8 lbs), through axle with Hex Lock is very stout and strong. These forks feel as trick as they look. If you're looking for a less-expensive alternative to a Marzocchi Dirt Jumper that is also way lighter, go with the Stance Static. I suggest the model with the 20mm through axle because the stiffness increase is significant.
Weaknesses:
Nothing major so far. The rebound adjustment knob only seems to click about 3 times, offering little fine-tuning.

Bottom Line:
A fork designed to fill the gap between cheap Rock Shox and heavy Marzocchi forks. While it fills this gap, it will not empty your pocketbook. Get Ferrari performace and look at Ford prices. A very solid platform.

Awesome. The fork is perfect so far, I just wish I didn't have to buy another adapter. I run it with 30 psi and I have the rebound pretty slow. This setup I have is perfect for dirt jumping considering that is all that I do. You cannot go wrong with the price and quality that comes with the Static.
