The fork that turned the tides in the battle for freeride supremacy, the Breakout remains largely unchanged for ‘04; better this year only by virtue of the wider 40mm range Rapid Travel II top-mounted travel adjustment.
they are a very good and smooth for but my lowers cracked Anyone who thinks that they have bad seals are idiots who obviously dont know enough about their forks, It is not leaking seals it is purposely done by manitou to lubricat e the fork so it is smooth

Strengths:
Light, many knobs
Weaknesses:
The compression dampening knob does nothing. The fork is not plush or progressive. The seals really suck, they are the worst thing about the fork.
Similar Products Used:
Marzocchi, Fox
Bike Setup:
Ellsworth joker 1.5
Bottom Line:
My stantitions are very scratched because the seals leak oil which attracts dirt and sand.

Works well, Lots of fine tuning addjustments on the fork. matt black finish looks cool. 1.5 stem is really stiff and i cant feel any flex
Weaknesses:
its lower legs are made out of magnesium so do not take near any salt because it corrodes like feck were the 20mm axel goes.

do not buy if u live in scotland or like to do a lot of traveling with the bike on the back of the car

i think the manitou breakout is sweet the bigger stem makes my freeride bike feel so much more grounded and stiff. i love it i can literally fly through those sections of trails im not supossed to go..these forks rock have nothing but love for manitou
Weaknesses:
umm i think the weakness on mine is not having a fender on it. i love the flat black look matches my powdercoated black rearend on my bike
Similar Products Used:

Bottom Line:
this is a great all around freeride downhill shock .it gives great travel to those huge drops and really saves your neck on those steep huge downhill faces. The Manitou Sherman Breakout is a killer front fork its worth it trust me.you won't regret it..

still with the 1.5 head tube. smooth as butter. i love the feel
the fork preforms very well, i have no complaints in that area. but i do have a crack in my lowers, and i haven't crashes them. there are no impact marks, so it must be a defective piece of aluminum. small amounts of oil leak out through the crack, so it is being sent back to the dist., who is replacing the lowers for me. about 3 weeks off my bike, so i am not happy about that. great product otherwise, but the cracks in the lowers are bad news.

Tons of adjustability, very plush through the stroke, handles big drops nice. Can download detailed servicing instructions from website. Marzocchi blows in this regard.
Weaknesses:
None so far!

Bike Setup:
Cannondale Gemini 900. King hubs, Diablous stem, Azonic bars, Saint cranks, sweet stickers, bling bling...
Bottom Line:
I must say Manitou has earned my respect. My original 03 Sherman blew out 3 times and caused much hassle but they finally replaced it with an 04 and this has SPV and this thing is working great for 4 months and I ride 4-6 times per week. It took me about 8 rides to fine tune it to my liking but that was fun and nice to ba able to do. There are tons of settings with air, rebound, and compression. Great fork! Gotta love them promoting servicing on your own by providing detailed instructions. Marzocchi should take a hint.

Strengths:
It handels perfectly in the trails or in 10 foot drops. It 6inches of travel feals endless, it performs almost like a cross country fork in its 110mm setting and just like a 8inch fork in its full travel settings.
Weaknesses:
with its 1.5" steer tube, it weights a ton!! And its price lol
Similar Products Used:
Psylo sl, Z1-drop off and shiver sc.
Bottom Line:
If you want to go all-out with a single crown fork, this is the fork for you...or its big brother the breakout plus, if you can afford it.
