Date Reviewed: May 2, 2005
Favorite Trail:Roads + Off Road
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $3.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Grips look really cool.
Gives you the padding for comfort for your brake levers.
Material wont tear easily or break apart.
Weaknesses:Installation takes time and method.(see below).
Stitching sorts of breaks, exposing thread.
Neoprene is too thin(2mm) , can be penetrated with a toothpick.
Similar Products Used:None.. a layer of sweat + dirt?
Bike Setup:Progear 2005, Shimano System, DNM Fireball rear shock, RST T-4 Fork , Progear velo saddle, Setlaz kevlar handgrips, Promax disc brakes
Lizard Skins chainstay, grunge guard for both derailleurs, headset seal, brake levers. Maxxis larsen TT wheels with HIC double rims. Topeak carbon fenders (rear and front).
Dual front headlights and single tail-light. Wellgro pedals.
Bottom Line:---- To install ----
1) Prise open the grips and use a toothpick to remove ALL the adhesive tape.
2) Slip grip into lever(with abit of force).
3) Use another toothpick, apply art glue(not super glue please!) on the insides of brake levers.
4) VOILA!

-------------
Apart from the installation, this product is just great and cheap! If you have the extra cash, dash to your LBS immediately! =)

Date Reviewed: June 17, 2002
Favorite Trail:Colorado Trail
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $5.00
Purchased At:Criterium Bike Shop
Strengths:I bought these after I got fed up with freezing my finger tips on bare aluminium during springtime thunder storms at 10,000 feet. These things are bomber. I finally lost one this winter after two years of abuse (with a crash on frozen gravel). Grip is great when wet, though that's not why I got them.
Weaknesses:Nearly impossible to get on if you don't READ & FOLLOW the instructions. The hardest part was finding somebody that uses hair spray... with the hair spray the things slip on in about two seconds.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:SRAM grip shift/TEKTRO levers
Bottom Line:A must if you ever wear fingerless gloves in a place with big temperature swings. Lets you keep the feeling in your fingers for the price of a beer.

Favorite Trail:The Boondoxx
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $8.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:All the pretty colors, and soft, velvety neoprene, or whatever that stuff they're made of is called.
Weaknesses:Pretty colors are distracting. They made me question my manhood. The neoprene stuff don't grip. Slips off. Pretty colors go bye-bye. Eyes follow pretty colors while screaming downhill. Eyes not see stump in the middle of the trail. Ouch.
Similar Products Used:ODI brake lever covers: work like a champ. no pretty colors (mine are black). Keep my fingers warm in winter, so I can pick my nose while riding without freezing a nostril. Mad grip!!! No slippin' here, bubba. Oh, yeah, back to the lizard crap.
Bike Setup:Some aluminum, some wires, some rubber: different names stamped, painted, or stuck on 'em: GT, Python Gold, Rhyno Lite, Kore, Bontrager, Easton, XT, XTR, Rock Shox, and some duck tape.
Bottom Line:These things blow goats. Seriously. They don't stay on. I guess I should've known that anything neoprene and velcro should be best left to two things: scuba diving and beer protecting. They work like my neighbor, who's on "disability," but we're not going to make this a socio-political commentary. Either spend your monay on beer, or use the friggin' things for straw warmer/coolers or something, but for God's sake, don't put 'em on your brake levers.

Favorite Trail:San Juan Trail
Duration Product Used:Tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:Absolutely none.
Weaknesses:First I couldn't get them apart. Then after getting the apart and installing, they felt terrible. I think I had them on for three rides and they fell apart at the seems.
Similar Products Used:Nothing else tryed like these and I never will try anyother type
Bike Setup:Big Hit...
Bottom Line:Don't waste your money with these things. The only item that I believe is worth buying from Lizard Skins is the gaurd that protects the frame near the chain.

Submitted by Wiseman a Cross Country Rider from USA
Date Reviewed: March 3, 2000
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:None, really, except they make your levers look fancy at first. But they wear so fast and then look cheesy.
Weaknesses:they don't really work any better than medical or cloth sports tape.
Similar Products Used:tape, rubber tubing
Bike Setup:avid brakes
Bottom Line:I ordered them because the LBS didn't carry them. I live in humid country, and need some lever slip prevention. These came stuck together in the package and I couldn't hardly get them out. I also order some Lizard shock guards and chainstay guards. I have used all of them for months, but everything is falling apart. The stitching stinks, etc.

Lizard Skins in UT didn't help a bit, when I asked for a warranty on the bad lever skins (bad out of the box) and told them by email about the stitching (not expecting any replacement, just thought I would tell them to stitch better in the future).

They never replied, never called never did anything. They are unresponsive. But for products that retail

Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
better than bare levers; cheap
Weaknesses:
a bit difficult to prepare...and hair spray??
Similar Products Used:
cloth/rubber tape and the like
Bike Setup:
shimano XT's
Bottom Line:mine looked like they were already bonded together out of the package, poking them with a pencil will surely damage the product. If you can, try pinching each side to pry them apart as best you can. Spray the inside of the skins with hairspray (do not overspray to avoid sticky fingers) and not the levers themselves!!! Why didn't they think of a water based glue so we don't have to search for hairspray in the garage???

Strengths:
Not much--they are better than bare levers
Weaknesses:
Mine were bad out of the package, customer service is nihil.
Similar Products Used:
cloth tape
Bottom Line:I got two sets. I couldn't hardly get either out of the package without destroying them. The rubber neoprene was old, probably, and had joined with the cardboard inserts that held the pads. When I contacted lizard skins out in UT, no one would help me. I don't want to buy more of their products only to find that it won't work out of the package. I did get it onto my levers and tried it. It does help, but mine wore away fast because of damage done getting it out and on. cloth rim tape works just as well. Had lizard skins at least tried to help me, I would have given them more chilis, but...

Date Reviewed: July 31, 1999
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
add grip to brake levers, look cool, cheap
Weaknesses:
really really really hard to get on
Bike Setup:
Diamondback Sorrento (1997 Cro-Mo MTB alloy frame)
Bottom Line:They are very hard to get on, first, you need to get them out of the package, then use a screwdriver or pencil or something and shove it through a few times to 'prepare' it. Then you have to spray hairspray on the brake levers. After that, slip 'em on and they're fine. They don't move AT ALL after they dry. They look pretty cool and add a bit of grip. I think the ones I got were a bit old, when I put them on, there was a big bump in one, but that flattened out after about a day of use. All my friends are like 'How much did your new brake levers cost?' And I laugh and tell them i just got grips for them by Lizard Skins. I think that they work rather good, and they are pretty cheap.

Strengths:
Easy to fit, and they work
Weaknesses:
A bit fiddly if you've got fingers like cucumbers
Bike Setup:
Shimano XT levers
Bottom Line:Okay, so they're fiddly to get on but a generous helping of hairspray did it for me. Since they dried out they haven't moved at all and make my braking life much much easier.

I just bought these, for trials riding, and they don't even fit over the brake levers! The go about half-way and then rip!

-protects fingers from the cold
Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:i saw these in my lbs and picked them up as an impulse buy. they didn't cost much and i love chachkas (check your yiddish dictionary) they go on pretty easy with a bit of soap and stay put once they dry. they have a no-slip area which actually help keep my fingers solidly on the levers. good product, good value and they kind of look cool.
