Just wanted to make an adjustment to my review below. The Lake shoe I own is the 155, not the 151 that is listed here at mtbreview, though they appear to be similar. The 155 has four distinct vertical black stripes which make it look like an adidas shoe. Again buy em they're great shoes!

Strengths:
Very stiff sole for power transfer, slight flex at the toe for walking, the fit conforms well to the foot with all the lacing, good traction on dirt when hik-a-biking, good looking shoe
Weaknesses:
Feels a bit on the heavy side, but that is probably due to the stiff sole which will certainly cancel out the weight consideration. I could see the lacing on top becoming entangled with thorns but that's being nit picky.

Bottom Line:
I've been looking for shoes like this for a long time. I wanted a stiff, effecient shoe that looked like a hiking boot instead of racer-boy xc-geek shoes. Also hoping they will grip decently for those occasional wet, rocky stream crossings and I will update in a future review. I'm absolutely satisfied with these shoes thus far and the price is less than half of a pr. of sidi's. They look like they will hold up a long time.

Bottom Line:
I used this shoe daily for three years, trail-riding and commuting. They fit like my bunny slippers. Flexible enough for tramping about downtown, and tough enough for big cross country rides. Not perfect, but a good multipurpose shoe.
The neoprene cuff keeps out the little stone that usually lodges under the ball of your foot. The toe box is broad but not overly high, and wraps well.
As for the laces: I adjusted the length and double-knotted them over the outside of my shoes, away from chainrings. The lack of a velcro strap means I don't have to peel the laces off the hooks everytime I want to lace them up -- that alone wears out the laces in a hurry! My only problem with them: the sole cracked after several thousand kilomtres. I replaced them with the same model shoe. They tend to be overpriced for a lightweight shoe, but I'd pay regular retail for them now (I just don't have too!)

Bottom Line:
They're not bad when the price is discounted by 50%. They're are not a $100 shoe. I don't know how a "bike shoe" company can use unprotected laces on their product. That's a major design flaw. My drive-side laces are ruined. For newer riders, getting your laces caught in the drivetrain could lead to serious injury.
I would not consider these for off-road riding as there is little protection in the toe box. On long rides, the lack of arch support leave my feet aching.
These are good shoes for short road rides to the local coffee shop.
My value rating is based on retail pricing.

look very cool very nice fit right from the start good air conditioning could tramp all day in them if needed to i.e. bike breaking down in middle of nowhere
Weaknesses:
not to sure on the lace's as my last pair of shoes had none and I am hoping they dont get caught up in the front rings
