$999.00 | | Purchased At: | Mr Goodbike | | Strengths: | It holds a seat. After you bend the seatpost it works as a good cheater bar for a rachet or wrench. | | Weaknesses: | I'm 225 and this thing bent over like a wet noodle after a few months. Right at the seat collar. So it wouldn't insert andy farther than the bend. Anyone need a layback Kona seatpost? I have one. | | Similar Products Used: | GT post, Thomson | | Bike Setup: | 2004 Kona Kikapu now with 2005 Frame, Fox Vanilla Fork, DHX Air, Avid Mechs, THOMSON, Terry saddle, King HS... blah blah. | | Bottom Line: | Buy a Thomson and call it a day. I'd start saving up for one the day I get a stock Kona post. Thompson = Good, Kona = Bad. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I have pretty much replaced everything else on the bike due to wear and breakage apart from the frame, forks and shifters AND THIS POST. $15.00 | | Purchased At: | Wheel World | | Strengths: | Price Simple Mechanism / Adjustment | | Weaknesses: | Range of adjustment isn't very wide Used to slip (Until I tightened the hell out of it) | | Similar Products Used: | Kalloy Uno RockShox Suspension post | | Bike Setup: | Kona Stuff, Marzocchi Z1 FreeRide | | Bottom Line: | Hmmm, let's see...
It seems that most of the people who have broken one of these has been landing on them funny. I don't know about you guys but I for one don't sit on my seat when landing a jump and have never seen anybody else doing so for that matter. Slam your seat down for god sakes! All kidding aside, the only problems I've had with my seatpost is how much you have to tighten the clamp down. Once it's damn tight though it doesn't come loose. This is due to an inherent design flaw which has nothing to do with Kona. Any clamp out on the market with this design suffers from this same type of slippage if it's not tightened down enough and I mean tight! Another prob would be the limited amount of adjustment. Luckily, the max amount of kickback is perfect for me but if you really like your seat in the DJ/DS attack mode where it's pointing towards the sky then this definitely isn't the seatpost for you. Other than these minor things, the seatpost doesn't creak, it's got a good layback position and the price was spot on for me. If you want to make this thing even stronger, go to a hardware store and pick up a Ti bolt for a $1.50. Oh and if you're bending seat rails, you're definitely not jumping right. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Overall, weak weak weak. | | Bike Setup: | 2001 Kona Roast | | Bottom Line: | What a weak piece of crap. Micro-adjust ridges got rubbed off AND the seatbolt got bent on the 1st butt-landing from a fumbled bunny hop... For a seatpost put on an 'out-of-bounds hardtail' (Kona Roast), this seatpost is unacceptable. How can you huck with confidence knowing that if you slip, it's pretty likely that the bolt will snap and what's left of the seat clamp will spear you in your vitals?! A true black mark in one of the best hardtail freeride bike ever.
The seatpost size is rare (30.0mm) - a good replacement is very difficult to find. You won't be able to find Thompson Elite, RaceFace XO, etc. at this size. I've only been able to find one decent replacement option - a Syncros 7075 Al seatpost.(http://www.syncros.com/frameset.html) I'm not aware of any ti seatposts available in this size... If anyone finds one, please e-mail me and let me know. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

The weak seat bolt is something that Kona needs to take into consideration. Something beffy required for riding that shakes the s**t out of the bike. I found it for worthwhile to get the Axiom seatpost that to get new clamps and bolts. The most simple upgrade, the seatpost.
