$200.00 | | Purchased At: | Cambria Bicycle Outf | | Strengths: | It’versatile. Geometry is excellent. It’s strong and not very heavy. Looks are great. It's a Kona | | Weaknesses: | Bosses for rear V-brakes, that's all that has ever bothered me... | | Similar Products Used: | Giant Iguana, Merida Matts, 'cause I am using this Kona for XC/singletrack/trail and playful commuting; and not for dirt jumping. | | Bike Setup: | Marzocchi All Mountain III '05; Avid BB7 180/160; 1x9 gearing, 36 teeth front with Dog Fang chain guard, 32-11 in the rear with a Shimano LX derailleur; Shimano Deore BB and cranks; Azonic HD1 looong seatpost; Specialized saddle; Syncros AM stem; Truvativ Hussefelt 31.8 Riser Bar; F wheel is Giant generic, R wheel is a Mavic 317; Specialized Enduro 2.2 tires (30-few PSI); Drive platform pedals. | | Bottom Line: | The frame is made for jumping but can be perfectly ridden in the trail for abusive XC. It is so strong and solid (without being too heavy), and so easy to maneuver that results exceptional for singletrack, roller-coaster hilly rooty trail riding (especially if you are 220 lbs). It’s long enough for XC-AM riding but offers very low standover so you can really play with it. The short chainstays add responsiveness too. It was supposed to be a dirt jumping frame but can be used to built the perfect all around/trail /real XC hardtail if you value strength and stiffness versus lightness. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1000.00 | | Purchased At: | Northern Cycles | | Strengths: | Good Frame, good handlebars. This bike is a tank when its working properly. Has a high level of impact forgivness, but like all bikes it has its limits. Good for "bombing around" riding to the store (always have a buddy with you to watch your bike. $1000 is still alot of money so be careful). If if you go camping with your family its a handy tool if you need to ride to the store and tell the manager to haul out his tractor because your dad got the truck stuck in mud, lol this happened to me! It is a gorgeous bike and gets lots of attention. Try to ride it somewhere were $1000 mountain bikes are uncommon, for example Virginia Beach. I took advantage of it being a hardtail and rode it on the boardwalk. An od man apporached me and asked if its the kind of bikes people do backflips on. | | Weaknesses: | Cheap parts. I would not recommend this bike to a seasoned dirtjumper, or one who will be doing tricks. Broke first week after purchase. I've replaced many parts more than once. Cheap Derraluer. Tires dont offer any grip so if you can replace the rear tire. I have an Intense DH tire on the back. | | Similar Products Used: | Kona Stuff. Kona Garbonzo (Whistler signature bike). | | Bike Setup: | Scrap frame, Marzocci DJ 3 fork, chainguide (I put it on myself. The stock bike does not come with it). | | Bottom Line: | Good bike for a beginer, as I said before, a bad choice for a skilled dirtjumper. Good use for XC, Tecnical trails (rock gardens, small jumps, skinnies, decents, replace back tire for climbing) , northshore trails (not freeride northshore but something less aggressive like the Bruce Pennisula, no drops or anything that will bang the bike around alot). Take it to the skate park if you want but watch the Derraluer you dont want to lose it on rails or boxes, etc . I would recommend removing the front derraluer and replacing it with a chainguide if you are going to dirtjump. Kona could have done a better job at asembling the bike because parts on the bike will rattle lose very quickley. Overall a must for first time riders who want a tank of a bike for a good price. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Not too heavy
Excellent for beginners
Good price | | Weaknesses: | Not a big deal, I would put on more beefy grips. | | Similar Products Used: | P2 | | Bike Setup: | All stock parts | | Bottom Line: | I absolutely LOVE this little bike. As an older-than-average rider and female, this is an excellent dirt jumper, urban assault bike that allows a new rider to develop skills and have fun.
Using this bike close to home--jumping, cornering down steep hills--has helped me with my XC MTB riding abilities.
No, you don't get the top of the line deraileurs or levers, but for the money it's sic. I would recommend this bike to anyone. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Have taken a few nasty falls and not so much as a derrailleur has skipped or broken. Forks work well besides the fact that they're psycho heavy and top out every time. Pedals offer decent grip, but I have spiked myself several times resulting in stitch-needing cuts. The cranks, handlebars, and stem are AWSOME. Cannot say enough good things about the Gravity components on the bike. | | Weaknesses: | Grips sucked, Pedals leave some decent sized gashes. | | Similar Products Used: | Spesh P2, Rocky Mountain Flow 2.0, etc. | | Bike Setup: | All stock, DJ3, Alivio, GRAVITY BARS STEM AND CRANKS :D, Alex DM24 wheels, etc. http://www.konaworld.com/bikes/2k7/SCRAP/index.html | | Bottom Line: | Feels great in the air, a decent climber due to the grippy tires and low gear ratio.
4 Flamin' chilis for value because they could've put on a deore derrailleur, although no problems with the alivio yet.
5 Flamin' chilis overall because the bike feels great and is all i need for intermediate DJ. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Strengths: | good frame, strong, good price and awesome fun | | Weaknesses: | tyres weak, poor quality control. | | Bottom Line: | This is my first real mountain bike and I love it. But it does have its problems. THe Tioga downhill 2.1 tyres are thin and weak and I have had many punctures, they either need replacing or thorn proof tubes. The stock grips also rotate annoyingly especially when wet. I also had a problem with the Jacksh*t pedals, they were too loose and water got inside, rusting the bearing race out within a week. I had a major problem with the rear Shimano hub. THere was grinding, squeaking and vibrations about a month after purchase, I took them apart and found a ball bearing missing, this had caused the bearing race and seal to be worn away, completely bummin the hub. The warranty didnt cover it and I had to pay for the repairs ($15). DEspite these problems it is still a fantastic bike and a great buy. I recommend that you take it to your lbs and get them to check it over and tighten up loose components as it will prevent many of the problems I encountered. I recomend it 4 beginners or anyone who wants to get out there and have some serious fun dirtjumping and trail riding. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I'm quit happy with this bike | | Weaknesses: | The fork is a bite cheap for that kind of bike, but kona put this fork to sell this bike cheaper. | | Bike Setup: | stock | | Bottom Line: | if ur going to do anything except very light riding do NOT get this bike. Everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Buy something decent like Norco Sasquatch or a Norco One25. The main problem with this bike is the forks and the frame. The forks are just absolute SH*T and the frame has a tendency to put a lot more pressure on your forks than it should. I have snapped the stock forks and then went to a Marocchi 2002 Dirt Jumper 1 with 20mm through bolt axle and i managed to snap them in a week (and they were new). I think that has something to do with the frame. I have been out of riding for like 2 months now because of the bloody problems i have had with this bike :( :( . i have already made up my mind and decided that the bike isnt worth riding and i am going to sell it to the person who thinks that kona are good and im going to get a Norco One25 and hopefully i wont have newhere near as many problems with that. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

| | Similar Products Used: | Giant Warp DS1, Stinky, P2 | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | THis is the coolest bike! Everything is awesome but the fork needs to be swapped for a DJ3 or a Drop-off or whatever else blows up your dress done a 4 foot drop and felt great wonderful in the air very flickable and manuverable perfect for Urban with some faster rolling tires like tioga blue dragons or maxxis highrollers, even though the stock ones work good
just get a new fork and some serious fun!!!!!!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$600.00 | | Purchased At: | Village Bike Shop | | Strengths: | This bike wasnt so bad. The frame, cranks, bars, and stem. So far the frame has held up to my abuse that I put it through. I have no problems with the cranks. | | Weaknesses: | The wheels bent the first day i got the bike. It may be that im hardcore (i only weigh like 130 lbs) or the wheels suck. The fork is a crap. I get scared im goin to ruin it sooner or later. | | Similar Products Used: | Um...this is my first really mountain bike, but i had a specialized hardrock. | | Bike Setup: | Street style. Rear disc no front brakes, no front derailler. Im going to switch to 24 in wheels and single speed...OH YEA!!!! | | Bottom Line: | For a beginner mountain biker they should buy this. Its not terrible or anything. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$950.00 | | Strengths: | Frame all Kona parts. pedals pins fall out. Grips wear out but they get the job done. | | Weaknesses: | Fork, should up grade to Z150 or Dirt jumper. | | Similar Products Used: | Tested stuff my stinky. | | Bike Setup: | Halo 24 rims maxxis hookworms. | | Bottom Line: | The bike is great. My little brothers so it should be great for a 11 year old. I would suggest a chainguid if you want to have fun and jump. The fork can be better though. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$699.00 | | Purchased At: | modern skate and surf | | Strengths: | Very respectable bike I have had it a little over a month now and I have set it up for urban trials. The rims are quite strong. I weigh around 200 lbs and they have held up fine. im fairly new to trials and have learnd pedal kicks and whatnot but im not very smooth so im kind of rough | | Weaknesses: | Im going to have to say the dereailures (sp) I havnt had a problem with them but they are not the top quality for trials. I had to change them | | Similar Products Used: | specialzed p2,Hardrock, Mongoose pro valient
| | Bike Setup: | stock except for shimano xt m760 and plaz pads on the rear. stock disk on fron. shimano xt (shortcage) dereailure (rear) | | Bottom Line: | Well first of all I must say this bike is rather cheap (price wise). however the quality is what you would expect from kona which is very high. the fram is basicly bomb proof and the componets are not bad at all. the fork is a little week but nothing to complain about. its a good bike to upgrade at your own pace. I gave this bike a 5 for value because its semi-cheap and 4 due to the componets.I would not get this bike if you are a hardcore x-country rider. I have used it for that purpose and it works but its not quite made for that and the geo. is a bit strange and makes it hard for climbs. if you are looking to get into dirt jump, trials, and/or urban riding I would highly recomend this bike. even the kona shred is decent and its cheaper. only thing missing is the disk. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$550.00 | | Purchased At: | Pyörä-Suvala | | Strengths: | Frame, componentry for the money, easily upgradable. So easy and fun to ride. | | Weaknesses: | The forks and brakes.. The fork feels more like a pogostick than a suspension unit. The brakes just aint powerful enough for my 100kg build. | | Similar Products Used: | Avanti Hotdog, Trek Bruiser, Cannondale Chase II, Planet-X pitbull... | | Bike Setup: | All stock except XT rear derailleur | | Bottom Line: | I got this bike damn cheap and for the money it gives crazy good performance. The frame is real good quality and provides a fine base for building a bike worthy to be in any riders wetdreams.. The only letdown really are the forks and the brakes. The bottom line is that for plain having fun and freeriding about, urban attacking, blasting downhill, or just plain cruising around, this bike delivers solid performance and shed loads of fun. When on the ground it is so easy to maneuver and predictable, when off the ground it is so stable to fly, and when chrashing back to the ground it can take the punishment. A BLOODY GOOD BIKE!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$699.00 | | Purchased At: | HotWheelz | | Strengths: | Bombproof frame Decent Spec Great handling | | Weaknesses: | Rims (cant handle big jumps) | | Similar Products Used: | GT Ruckus 2.0 Marin B-17 | | Bike Setup: | Stock | | Bottom Line: | Awesome bike for thrashing and jumping on. Excellent frame with decent componentry that can easily be upgraded. All things considered it's excellent value for money. Only negatives would be that the rims just aren't strong enough for big jumping, and the fork. Although it offers strong performance straight out, it just isnt tough enough for heavy riders. Im 210 and i find that im getting through the travel too easily. Apart from that it's fantastic and definately worth having. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | town and country cyclery | | Strengths: | the color is bad A$$, the brakes are really nice, the fork is bottomless, the frame is strong, the geometry is amazing | | Weaknesses: | i hate the stock grips, i hadda but some yeti grips, oh, yeah, and its not mine, its my lil bro's | | Similar Products Used: | trek 4500( not bad but not a freeride/DJ bike) specialized hardrock comp(again really sweet tor street and DJ, but not made for it) | | Bike Setup: | stock | | Bottom Line: | its amazing, it hits every jump with confidence and stablilty, it flys straight, tables comfortably, and sprints quickly, sweet bike for shore type riding (there's none in ann arbor except the side of my neighbors driveway)really stable, spins good, i wish it was my bike, its sooooooooooo good, but its not quite as good as my dawg dee lux, that bike is primo. $699.00 | | Purchased At: | Standish Cycles | | Strengths: | anything but the forks (especially) and the tires | | Weaknesses: | the forks. they are so crap. i broke mine in 2 days. i snapped them in half. they deserve to be put on a $100 piece of crap. The tires suck so bad u get pinch flats so easily | | Similar Products Used: | 2002 Kona Roast. Norco Bigfoot | | Bike Setup: | everything stock except for the tires and some supermonsters 300 mm (they are so sweet its not funny and u can do anything with them and the only badthing about them is they way a tonne but u could put them on a moto cross bike if u wanted). | | Bottom Line: | dont get this bike. get a stuff cause u will save urself so much money with the forks. the stuff isnt much more and u can do more stuff without worrying about the forks which are SHTI. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | coates bicycle shop | | Strengths: | just about everything on it. | | Weaknesses: | i would have to say the forks make a nasty noise when bunny hopping crubs, but that about it. | | Similar Products Used: | trek 820 i think. my bro bought the stuff model and its pretty sweet as well. | | Bike Setup: | stock | | Bottom Line: | i have the medium sized bike and its sweet. perfect for jumping and a lil bit of downhill. really fun bike. i weigh about 195 and she holds up pretty easy. 4.5 outta 5 because of the forks. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
